new building skill and player owned houses

I bought a house in RL last year and have been increasing my personal home building skill this last year. Because of this, I find this idea intriguing. The part that interests me the most is the furniture building. The furniture provides utility and storage space beyond the current normal capacity of food and the bank. In addition, tools such as a crafting table or mystic forge could be placed in the home.

I like the idea of a teleport device in the home. Ideally it provides a slightly less costly way to move around the world map. In addition, it provides a way to move back to a home location, which loads faster than a city, to work on crafting and storage after running around the world for the day.

Also, being an engineer, I like the idea of designing and building stuff that I can take pride in.

If I recall correctly it was mentioned by the game development director that they broke into teams for the development work. Each time had between 4 to 6 months to work on their content. It seemed to me that the team sizes fluctuated a good amount. So the man hours available on any set of content for a quality check fluctuated. Therefore some content was good, and some content was not so good.

In my experience the releases at every two weeks did last for four weeks. The marionette was available for four weeks after it was released. Scarlet’s attacks with the aether blades occurred for four weeks. In most cases the content was consumed by a good number of players within the first two weeks. I, on the other hand, needed the four weeks to complete most of the content.

Destiny's Edge Follow Up to Aftermath

I listened to the conversation between the main characters in the bar. Rytlock was mentioned by Rox as someone she didn’t want to talk with for fear of being “gutted”. Logan was mentioned in the conversation and it was indicated our support was described to him. Since the bar conversation was short, I thought I would try and follow up with Destiny’s Edge on the following:

1. Confront Rytlock about Rox’s participation and try to increase her renown with him.
2. Talk to Logan and find out if the Queen or the Seraph have any input regarding the recent events.
3. Let Eir know her son broke her leg, but he is doing good.
4. Follow up with Caithe and find out what she knows of this dragon.

However, I could not find Logan or Rytlock. I went to he Queen’s chamber hoping to find Logan. He’s not there, and the Queen doesn’t seem to care about the recent events, i.e. she has no dialog about these events. I went to the Citadel to find Rytlock in his chambers, but his personal assistant told me he’s in Lions Arch. Clearly, she has no clue that Lions Arch has been messed up.

Are any of Destiny’s Edge available for comment and a response regarding these events? Would Anet be able to update the dialog of the Queen and similar NPCs to account for the recent events?

Salvage or sell items ?

I go through a 3-step process to decide what to do with items.

1) Can I use it? At lower levels I get most of my gear from drops, so I’ll use anything with a higher armor/damage rating than what I’m currently using and don’t worry too much about the stats. At higher levels I’m more picky.

2) Can I sell it on the Trading Post? I check the price and if I’d get more that way than selling it to a merchant (after taxes – using the ‘projected profit’ value) then I sell it.

3) Do I want the materials more than the money? The answer here is almost always yes, because between the crafting materials and the chance at luck from green and blue items it’s usually better to salvage it.

There are some exceptions, for example rare items almost always sell for far more than the merchant value on the TP, but I always salvage them because at the moment I need the ecoplasm more than the money.

I would add a forth step. If the rare or exotic item sells for more than the glob of ectoplasm then sell the item. However; you may want to consider a multiplier to the glob price because I’ve recieved between 1 and 3 globs from one rare or exotic item.

Shield or Torch

I play PVE for the most part. The torch and scepter work great for ranged combat focused on damage. If I want to mix defense and support into the build I’ll replace the torch with a focus, and replace the scepter with a mace. The fact that focus (5) has a blast finisher makes it better than the shield in my opinion. If you setup a field by yourself (mace 2) you can then use the blast to increase the effectiveness.

Boons and Anti-Condition

I have not dove into it in great detail, but for the LA fights I’ve respeced my guardian for max toughness and max healing. More specifically 30 Valor, 30 Honor, 10 Virtues. I run with Pure of Voice and Battle Presence. I also put a Sigil of Life on my mace and a Sigil of Momentum on my focus. Finally, I put a Sigil of Restoration on my staff. I changed the feet, hand, and shoulder armor to Clerics gear. I probably should have changed the helm, chest, and leg armor to Soldiers gear.

The results I see on the battle field of LA is a lot of green numbers over everyones head. I’m not sure if it makes a significant difference from their point of view, but it feels good to me seeing that I’m helping during the combat that often times seems overwhelming. The damage output is good enough that it feels very palidin like.

I’m not sure how the condition damage is affected. I run only two shouts. I could probably tweek that a little and increase the condition controls.

Why I've changed my mind on Ascended

@ OP: I’m on the same page as you regarding crafting as a goal. I have not crunched the numbers to find out what the percent increase would be with ascended gear and thus find the benefit to the cost; however, it is a long term goal that I can achieve as a casual player.

It sounds like you’re unsure of the change to the game regarding your targeted stat increase. I would recommend holding on to your materials you crafted until after the stat change occurs. Unless you have had a chance to play with the new stat and then know how it interacts with your game play you do not know how the ascended armor with the new stat will benefit you.

The unfortunate part of a complex game is that stats will change a little bit through it’s life. Therefore, any benefit achieved with ascended gear will change. You’re game play /skill will need to be flexible enough to accommodate those changes.

Greataxe?

I agree. I prefer the look of the great axe to the great sword. What classes would use the great axe? Would the great axe provide more offense, crowd control, or defense than the standard axe?

Build Advice- Trying to break Meta Zerk

I have not played Zerker yet, but I will most likely some time in the future. I do play Celestial though. I like the added defense and HP. One thing to consider, that seems apparent to me, is that boss fights that perform high damage AoE attacks can wipe a crowd of players that have low toughness and HP. I would recomend a test to determine the damage output of such attacks. I usually run into these attacks at shrines. Then determine the rate of attack and probability that you may not be able to dodge it. Apply those points of damage to your build. In addition, consider the DPS to that boss that you perform. Optimize around maximum time alive and maximum damage to the boss, with equal weight to each factor. This should give you a new build with decent DPS that has low risk to survival.

Transmutation Crystal Limits?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: cooperjer.6180

cooperjer.6180

The description of the Transmutation Crystal indicates that when combining the two pieces armor they much be of the same “type.” Does type apply to class (i.e. light, medium, or heavy) or to location (i.e. head, shoulder, chest, etc.) or to both?

I would like to apply the Magitech Medium Armor skin to a heavy or light armor character. Is it possible to apply this skin to an armor type not listed in the title or description?

Thank you.

Given the fact that the questing is a thing of the past, maybe instead of having “trainers” be merchants, we can create a small instance (no bigger than Ascension Arena in GW1) where you’re presented with a task having your regular weapon skill and only that one utility skill you’re trying to learn.
With a trainer (now in real meaning of the word) looking over you, giving you pointers as to what to do in situation he/she had presented you with.
It’s just a small concept, but this way you’d earn your skill rather than just outright buy it, while learning it at the same time. Maybe give it an attempt cost? Creating an ability to fail such quest?

I think this could have a lot of potential as well, depending on the ability it could even change up the game-play/experience.

The next challenge: We want to put as much content in the open world as possible, so you’re constantly running into other players and having great social experiences. This is one of the pillars of Gw2, and why we try and avoid instances as much as possible. How would you modify this system to work in the open world? (I see a lot of easy ways – skill point challenges are very similar to this, but it’s fun to ask you!)

The social environment I’ve seen regarding players learning how their skill works best is in a test dummy environment. Generally, a lot of players will spend some time working to test how their new build generates dps, mitigates dps, and performs in crowd control. The particular test dummy area I’m thinking of is from Champions Online and includes a way to damage the players character. A similar tool can be used in GW2. I can imagine a circus tent with several test dummies, strong men, and mobile acrobats to test each portion of a players use of skills and traits.

The trainer mentioned in the previous post could be somewhere at the circus in the open world environment.

What sort of systems of horizontal progression unlocking would you like to see that’d accompany a system like extended class progression?

I think special dynamic events could be one way. Currently some dynamic events open up special vendors to buy little knick knacks. For example, if in Brisban Wildlands there was a special dynamic event chain where you help the Skritt King in some way and after the events are over you can buy a new skill from him with skill points.

So a question for this, how would we message well to newer players how a system like this would work? One of the challenges of events is simply: they may not be running when you’re in an area. Is it ok to make people stand around waiting for an event to happen so they can get a specific thing from that event? How would they know what to do if the event wasn’t currently active, what form of messaging could help them understand the state of the world – while still being immersive and not requiring them to use a 3rd party app to progress?

One of the simplest methods of notifying the player of events coming up is to implement the timer into the game. I can imagine a tab on the map screen that brings you to a list of events on that map and the time until start. This idea is not very organic but it’s a start. To allow it to become more organic and grow from a small bit of information to a large collection of information let’s tie it into a story with the characters. As the player explores the zone and completes hearts and events then they acquire knowledge of when particular events can occur. That knowledge is then logged on a screen automatically (i.e. tab on the map screen). To build the live feed of when an event will occur then we’ll need to assume NPC contacts on that map are notifying the player via some Asura communication device. Ideally these contacts are members of the faction the player chooses at character creation.

This solution is somewhat complex to implement, but I feel it’s a good starting point to discuss ways to provide knowledge to the player regarding event start time and end time.
