Since 8pm est (daily resets) the champ skell stopped dropping a chest. This seems more reasonable, to be honest. Will check what the 9pm build did to it, if anything.
The only thing that would make this better is if I could be sitting at the top with siege. The rage and tears would be more entertaining then they currently are.
Not like a casino? MMOs have relied on random loot drops and extreme rarity for over a decade. It’s part of the addiction. It is precisely how I explained the enjoyment of a game like World of Warcraft to my aging father, who knows a thing or two about the lure of a one-armed bandit but couldn’t get his head around people playing this type of game.
This current whine is also awfully similar to the complaining about legendary precursors. What is telling is that the same people aren’t committing forum seppuku over the fact that the rarity of the item being dropped from a mob is equally low, if not lower. Who cares what the mechanism is? Chest, forge, mob .. rare is rare.
Uh, BIG difference between a positive surprise while fighting a mob and getting something rare and dropping $80US RL money and getting nothing. Casinos have WAY better odds.
So, you haven’t gambled much, have you? If you were guaranteed to make a profit every time you gambled 100 bucks, casinos wouldn’t exist. Incidentally, I got the greatsaw skin and avian shoulders within the first 20 regular chests. Burned through all my boosters (about 50 MKC) and got the shield and two more sets of shoulders. Judging by the responses, I’d say I was lucky. Some will win, some will lose – it’s the whole point of gambling.

You people are all ridiculous. What, exactly, is legendary about an item you can obtain within a month or two of playing time?
What’s truly ridiculous is the notion that willingness to do mindless grinding somehow distinguishes a player from others in a positive way. What’s also ridiculous is the petty desire to restrict the character aesthetics of others.
I don’t see “entitlement”, I see people who understand the value of time better than you do. I see people who hate RNG and RNG-driven market prices because RNG is the antithesis of skill. I see people who only care about aesthetics and think the cost of legendaries is too high relative to their aesthetic value.
(I often see “entitled” now in gaming forums, it seems it’s merely a pejorative thrown at people who aren’t sufficiently submissive towards whatever system is being discussed)
Well, I agree on your first point. Mindless grinding, luck of the draw .. either way. If you truly want to be “distinguished” then asking for a way to make a reasonably exclusive item more obtainable seems counter-productive.
You hate RNG because it is the antithesis of skill. In your perfect world, then, a legendary could only be achieved through skill (we agree) .. but in that case you would have to toss out the entire system, because nothing on the list of prerequisites for a legendary requires any skill whatsoever. The whole thing is a grind. It is what it is.
The reason you see people recognizing entitlement is because that’s the definition – how else would you describe “I just put 1000 hours, 2000g, and my firstborn into this legendary .. and I’m entitled to a precursor!” Maybe you are, maybe you aren’t. But the decision of “how rare” the end item is is entirely up to the designer – which if it were me, I would triple the current requirements and make the weapon precursor soulbound. Otherwise they are going to have to make a “super really epic legendary and we mean it this time” item. You know, the type you only see one of per server, if that. The distinction is the perspective on what “exclusive items” should really be.
You people are all ridiculous. What, exactly, is legendary about an item you can obtain within a month or two of playing time? Why should luck not be involved as a significant factor? If you could toss 500g worth of crap into a magic box and statistically be guaranteed a precursor .. so what? You might as well put the precursors on a vendor for 500g.
The entitlement (and lack of perspective) is remarkable. Never mind the absurdity of tossing hundreds of gold in the mechanism designed to dispose of it and cry foul when it does just that.
Everyone should be issued Twilight at character creation so these poor souls can be put out of their misery.
If I were to tell you that it was due to international laws, shipping regulations and vendor preparation .. would it really matter?
For the love of all that is good in the land, plz shut up vendors!

Good god the Master Tailor in LA. “Ideas are like cream” ad infinitum drives me bonkers. First of all, ideas are nothing like cream. Cream always rises to the top, therefore the analogy is flawed – all ideas don’t rise to the top. Good ideas would be like cream .. tailoring in LA makes my teeth itch .. I honestly don’t mind the “my ears” line, though :p
Detrimental to the community? So, would you like to hand me (just one set) of the 40 or so blue mats I need to level (just one) of my professions? What’s that? I should buy them off the TP? That would be great, if I could generate some cash to do so.
Take away the resource and the reasonable ability to purchase it otherwise in one BS design “aim” at the expense of my time? You sure are naive.
Here’s an idea – in a game where loot and a reward mechanism are fairly central, don’t place artificial “you’ve had enough fun for today” restrictions unless you want to drive away a fair chunk of your player base.
While you are absolutely right about EVE, comparing its eternal sandbox to the “scoreboard” battleground-esque matches in GW2 is not a particularly cogent discussion.
The unfortunate term “night-capping” means more than just a team playing while you are offline. The real issue is the population imbalance during these periods – the people who are complaining are pointing out that while they are playing, they actually have an even number of competitors and are fighting for the assets they gain. The enemy crews that are flipping these assets often do so with little to no opposition.
Not a sport, though a game.
game/g?m/
Noun:
A form of play or sport, esp. a competitive one played according to rules and decided by skill, strength, or luck.
I suppose those crying about having their undefended assets capped during off-peak fall under the unlucky category, though you would have us believe it is lack of “number management”. Whatever makes you feel better.
Haha! Business! .jpg
I welcome our new management overlords.
Well to be fair, the OP made a one-month condition. Two months, however, with the potential release of Darkfall UW – might be a different story.
WvW on the weekends, tPvP during the week, absolutely.
The scoreboards are typically a reflection of a deeper game mechanic issue (population imbalance / ease of capturing undefended objectives). It doesn’t take long to realize you are facing 5x your fielded force across all the maps if you happen to play in that unfortunate block of time.
You should expect that the gold you dumped into a keep the previous day at least had a chance of lasting until you return. In this case, looking at the map (regardless of the scoreboard) has the same effect. “Meh”.
I played planetside for years, never herd of anybody complaining about night capping. its only now that arenanet have introduced a scoring system and thus win condition that people now care. their goal in wvw is now to win at fantasy video gaming via score and if they dont do that then it seems they just dont come back. to pvp.
Well if thats the case, HOD has declared victory.
Well, there is one suggestion mentioned elsewhere – remove the scoreboard. The “cap supply at 4 mins before tick” metagame is pure cheese as well. Yes, we do it too. Clever strategy to overly predictable tactics happened rather quickly, and it doesn’t add anything to the overall nature of the battleground.
Well played. Coffee up the nose, etc. The screencap is choice because it’s “Midnight Gaming” which is, of course, their greatest strength.
To be completely honest, at 0500EST this morning (0900UTC / 1700 HKT), HoD had just broken the 500+ PPT.
The player ratio on the board across all three homelands was > 5:1, even when we managed to hole up all 10-15 people on the map into the last keep. In other words, had either ET or SBI pulled every player into one BL, there actually might have been some good pvp (which is what we all want, right?)
That doesn’t particularly mean much in the grand scheme of PPT as the other maps would have been empty. Though it could be (and is) argued that in any 5:1 “token resistance” scenario you might as well be fighting by yourself, and isn’t much fun from the winning side, either.
So we should pilfer EU / Oceanic from the other ~48 servers that have the same population balance issues?
That sounds perfectly reasonable.
Feel free to ignore MyDublin aka Nacasatu. We had to put up with this genius in map chat purposely giving out false intel, wasting supply, turning siege around backward, etc., all while raving about communists. Whatever floats your boat, I guess – but if you are going to be a full-time troll you should probably spin up a new account.
Wow, listen to you guys. JQ is now officially QQ. You don’t deserve 3rd place, tbh.
