64-bit client: Font flickering

Running the 64 bit client to see if it would alleviate all of the OOM crashes I was experiencing, and so far, so good on that front (ran around with a mob of 40ish people doing a hero point run through HoT zones earlier, zero crashes). One thing I’m noticing, though, that’s mildly annoying: Font flicker at random. It happens with the font for player name plates, as well as the chat pane, along with the daily list and/or story quest. At first I thought it may have been a refresh rate issue; swapped it from 144 (normal native for my monitor) to 120, still happens. Enabled vsync for kittens and giggles, same thing. Updated my video driver, no difference.

Haven’t seen this posted anywhere else, so right now I figure it’s something the 64-bit client doesn’t like with my PC. Never saw this happen when running the 32-bit client.

points to the half a dozen or so other threads talking about the same thing. It’s the latest patch. They’re aware, they’ve tweeted that they’re working on it as well as posted it here.

There can be DCs/inability to load in without lag (I do suspect the in game lag and inability to connect are related, though, in this case). Plus not everyone uses Twitter. No other post explictly stated a lag issue.

It was happening prior to the patch that went out a hour or so ago also. I logged on earlier, noticed a good 3-5 second lag on everything (at that time), then got the “new build” prompt. Logged out for that, came back in, was fine until about 10-15 mins ago.

…and it’s still bugged. Can’t even get to the point I was at yesterday. Taimi just bugged out at the bottom of the stair going up into the lab. I had killed one of the golems that had wandered down the stairs, and now she’s stuck in place.

Would really like to stop wasting time with this. Not exactly the fastest of quests since it’s a giant bunch of “defend the npc”.

Nope, just happened to me 5 mins ago. Killed the vet that spawned from the portal (the one interrupting the energy or whatever) and now I’m stuck. Ran out of the room, all over the place, nothing.

Game crashing

I am encountering this every time I go to a world boss now. Tried twice now to get the new title/achieve for karka queen; crashed both times soon as fighting started, and by the time I get back in, it’s over, so zero credit (since I’m not even able to get in to get a few hits in). I’ve been running all bosses with no issues with the exception of a handful of Tequatl tries (but at least there in all but one of those cases, I crashed early enough in the fight and was partied with a friend that I was able to get back in, or I simply jumped into a Teq taxi group to get out of overflow server).

I’ve had two karka queen tries, two to three Teq kills, 1 Golem Mark II kill and 1-2 other bosses where I’ve crashed but got back in time to still get credit.

Lagging after patch today..

I am seeing the same issue. 1-2 second delay on skill activations. In-game ping fluctuating wildly, from double digit numbers up to 500.

Other games/programs are responding just fine. Ran a speedtest via speedtest.net and my connection is running at max capacity.

Only change since this morning (when I last played) and now was a patch roughly 56 mb in size.

Edit: I do recall there being some sort of errors with loading into certain zones yesterday and this morning EST (I was not able to wp to Frostgorge around 10 AM EST). Based on threads I just saw here, that issue appears to be addressed, though.

Just completed this upon the noon EST spawn, had looted the chest and had my map open to port to LA. Got booted to character select screen, hopped back in on same toon, and credit for this was lost.

On top of that, I had tried this 12 hours prior, only to crash to desktop with boss at 25% hp and got back in just as it died. No credit.

Given all the other bugs being reported, buggiest patch I’ve personally experienced. I wasn’t online for the “instant GWAMM” insanity the other month (it had been hotfixed before I logged on that day, iirc).

Charr need a rework !

Charr physique and animations are fine. It’s the armor clipping (most notably with the tails) that drives me bonkers. ESPECIALLY the T3 light pants. Every single other charr cultural armor doesn’t clip with the tails…except that one. That’s just plain ridiculous. Another semi-annoying clipping issue is the T3 heavy gauntlets with shields (my chaos shield skin comes to mind). Flame Legion armors from CoF also have tail clipping…I mean it’s armor coming from a charr-filled dungeon, so one would think the armors would be designed distinctly with charr characters in mind.

Leave the animations and physical traits alone…just fix some of the clipping issues with the tails, please.

To borrow from my post in the NPE feedback thread:

- Trait unlock system, while on the surface looks like a great idea, is a hassle. On my post NGE characters, I’ve had to either go around my hindquarters to get to my elbow…er trait unlocks, or simply save up skill points/cash and buy them. With the engineer in particular, I have had to buy all of his, since I literally had none unlocked upon unlocking traits in general. If Anet insists on keeping this in place to promote exploration of the game…maybe make the unlocks account wide? Otherwise, I would simply ask to have the old system back.

Neato. Had a friend recently pick up GW1 with the intent of doing HOM from scratch; I’m at 13 points myself, but would love to finish up getting to 30, maaaaybe 35. I only played GW1 for about a year, maybe (stopped when Nightfall was about to release), so I have a lot of catching up to do.

Having played both pre and post-NGE, as well as 10 years of MMO experience and 25 years of gaming:

- I am VERY grateful I had 5 characters created prior to NGE last year. Since then I’ve leveled a new warrior, and an engineer. Both were beneficiaries of Experience scrolls (so basically started at level 20). Both of them are post NPE, though.

- The slow unlocking of weapon skills just makes early level combat very stale. As someone who has parroted this game over other MMOs, this can tend to be a turn off to any new players who happen to be veterans of other MMOs (or games, even).

- Leveling rewards: I like getting items/loot upon leveling. That is really nice. I’m not so fond of how skill points and attributes come in chunks, though. I would rather see them be more gradual and consistent. Nothing like being a skill point or two short for buying that first elite skill, going out of the way to get the points, then BOOM, there’s 7-8 points at level 33 or 34 (I forget which; wasn’t long after unlocking elite at 31 though, iirc).

- Personal Story: Like skill points and attributes, I don’t like how this comes in chunks, either. I liked it prior to NPE, where you could do a story quest, then go out in the world and gain a level or two, then if you wanted to jump right back on your quest, now you can. As it stands now, I’m simply leveling alts all the way to 80, then doing world completion, and if time permits prior to HoT release, I’ll do the story quests on them, so that I can do them in one fell swoop.

These are my experiences, so I speak only for me. I see the intent of the NPE, but I believe overall it misses the mark. It has some positives, as I’ve pointed out, but overall, I believe it’s an shining example of the adage “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. The game wasn’t totally broken prior to NPE.

Going to agree with the consensus here that it’s faaaar easier to find decent looking heavy (and even medium) armor for charr than light. I main a charr ele, and just got my charr warrior to 80 yesterday (already had an 80 human warrior). The T3 charr heavy armor is probably the best looking of any cultural, imo.

OP is trying to kill undead mobs with old age, based on what gear/stats are in use.

Seriously though:

- craft gear closer to your level
- for pve, go for beserker stat gear (power/precision/ferocity). Guards have low hp, but with all the blocks and blinds plus heavy armor, they are very durable
- See previous posts with links to guides on optimal equipment sets/traits/etc.

This game is not that difficult.

What’s up with all the other people concerned how fast other people level?

You really think preventing me from reading tomes of knowledge, birthday insta level 20s or experience scrolls is really going to stop me from being 80 on my Revenant in the first few hours of the expansion launch? Hell, I’ll do it old school and craft it up to max crafting in 8 different crafts if you really wanna be silly about it.

Just stop worrying about it already.

Methinks the joke has gone over your head

Seems he didn’t see what I did there. Perhaps a revenant IRL?

I had the same plan regarding scroll/tomes.

You don’t read them, you eat them.
