If i’m not mistaken, 2 main reasons caused the changes in April 2013 (i think some devs talked about it in a sotg in march or april):
- the complaints about ele as uber-orb-carrier in spirit watch (although that was debateble event at that time)
- the combination of mobility and sustain, that allowed the ele to contest a point permanently

So they combined bugfixing and “careful shaving of skills and traits” to tone down the high mobility boon bunker…
And, as we all know, they did a really good job there… after all bunkereles are no problem in spvp anymore…

One more thing I forgot before:
It is a fallacy to assign the loot-bags or rank-chests to the season reward, because the acquisition is completely independent from the season.

I find it hilarious that people even thought that the rewards would be substantial.

Doing things like zerging towers, zerging camps, zerging dolyaks, trading ruins require minimal individual effort and imo the rewards reflect this. And please stop stating that they took seven weeks. It took a week with minimal effort.

And they stated before the leagues that the winners would receive temporary finishers….

The amount of time it took to finish the meta was highly depentend on your gaming time and/or your server. (just a little interjection)

But there is another problem:
While the rewards are not that bad per se (at least not for the top 2-3 servers, for the rest it might be debatable) in in-game “value”, they are still poor rewards or have a great potential to be recieved as bad rewards.
There are some factors that favor dissatisfaction, the most important are (in my opinion):

- The rewards were not known before. Unlike pve, where you know exactly what you’re going to get, here only 2 things were known – the finisher and the mini. You could not make a well informend “cost-benefit analysis”.
And you had room to speculate on possible rewards, that’s almost always a safe way to disappointment.

- The green items. Most people perceive bad or mediocre rewards (or presents) as a greater insult than non at all (interesting enough, that seems to be an anthropological constant), because it is a way of showing appreciation. The yellow ones would have been sufficent – a case of “less is more”.
The rng with those items clearly didn’t help either.

- No clear connection to the specific task. The rewards were quite generic, e.g. one of the first things I connected the rewards with, were the Tequatl dragon chests. There was nearly nothing that made it a wvw-reward: no badges, no siege, no wxp booster, very little wxp… every achievment chest has the same or a better connection to wvw!
In pve you usually get titels, skins or/and minis that are visually linked to the content. Here you got the titel (that was a good one), a mini (although minis can be quite problematic in wvw) and no skin to show off.
More over only the first places got finishers and those are limited-on-use (despite the fact, that is was stated before, that they’re going to be time-limited ’till season 2).

The result is a kind of conundrum with not-so-bad rewards being quite horrible rewards to a lot of players.

As I wrote in an other thread: “Really underwhelming… didn’t expect much, but… the longer I think about it, the more I feel trolled: All in all it’s about the reward of a successfull Tequatl + 100 fragments and the consumables…”

I didn’t expect much monetary gain or a pile of rares. But what I do not get is the lack of wvw related stuff! At least they could have added things like:
2-3 wxp-ranks for all + some depending on rank
wxp-booster
x superior blueprints of each typ + some depending on rank
traps
maybe some laurels (or even better guild commendations to help with ascended accessories)
x-y badges depending on rank

And last but not least a less limited finisher…250 uses, thats 2 weeks tops for a regular wvw’er! I really thought it would be time-limited… (’till the next season, for 2-3 months…)

Really underwhelming… didn’t expect much, but… the longer I think about it, the more I feel trolled:

WvW Roaming Build Help Please

That -40% condi duration food is nearly 40silver a pop, almost no one can afford to run that.

Thats not true… lemongrass poultry soup has an avarage of ~30-32s as buyout, ~27s as buyorder.
More important, if you farm the lemongrass for yourself (just park 2-4 highlvl chars in the eastern part of straits and collect the 5 herb patches with them when you start and end your gaming session – 10min max → ~10-15 lemongrass/run), buy the rest of basic ingredients and craft it yourself, you’ll pay about 7s (not counting the loss for not selling the lemongrass) per bowl.
In my opinion really well invested 10-20min for a roamer…

RoF vs Drakkar vs Dzagonur

And with the buff, i have seen several times that we had queue on our Bl, and still we had outmanned buff. I dont know if that is a bug or what, but truth is that we had 2 major groups on our BL. One from DZ and one from DL.
Really i think outmanned is somehow bugged, but have no proof.

That should not be possible, not if you’ve got queue… otherwise everybody would have outmanned on reset night.^^
Could have been an unnoticed population decrease or some advantage for defendes on the home bl with outmanned kicking in early (but I doubt that, that would have been noticed).
So it could be an outmanned bug or a problem with the queue… if I’m not mistaken you could bypass the mapcap with the “queue-taxi” for a while, but was / should be fixed. Also one BL had problems with the mapcap (being lower than intended) in the past, if I recall that correctly (but I can’t remember the colour).

Oh and thanks to all the guys in the arena for great fights in civilized surroundings!

P/D Thief tips..

As traditional hammer/gs solo-roamer:
- d/p thief: learing by dying^^ against them it’s all about experience (and sometimes the latency)
- p/d thief: should be a draw, if you play defensiv. If you know you’ll fight one, it can help to switch merciless hammer for spiked armor.

A build thats really great against those annoying p/d cookie-cutter thiefs is the shout build for zergs. Great mobility, good condi cleanse and 10sec retal uptime. 9/10 thiefs will be annoyed as hell, on the other hands it’s not the best spec to roam with.

Look at the income history… no nightcapping this time.
Things went south for RoS around 7 am, so morning capping might be the correct term

Well it was turning much earlier than that trust me. It was a struggle to cap a few things while the very large DL group was capping so fast just to try and keep a decent tick. But you’re correct we all KNOW coverage is what wins. Everything will be upgraded meaning RoS will have to climb out of a hole (more than likely will never happen).

Well, I can just look at the statistic and you did way better than last weekend during the nightshift. Last week your night crew was already quite sucessful during the week and will be again this week (my guess, knowing DLs wvw attendance history).
This is of course just the ppt-angle and we all know that there is not necessarily a connection to good and fun fights

Night cappers, something Anet did not foresee as being the deciding factor in many matches.

Obviously no night capping this time, at least not from a German point of view… things started to go south for RoS between 6 and 7 am and here that is already morning
