VAT is applied to pretty much any thing you sell, not just physical items. If I pay a plumber to come and fit a new bath, the plumber has to charge VAT on his labour time too. So virtual currency sales would be taxed as per anything else.

There are weird rules within the EU which mean that exporting to another country in the EU is not treated the same as exporting outside the EU completely. However, If ANET are selling to consumers outside of the EU, then no, they should not be charging VAT, even if the price is in Euros.

A lot of companies conveniently forget this fact, which tends to annoy people in Switzerland amongst other places, which are in Europe but not in the EU. NO idea what ANET do.

I probably wasn’t clear enough but thats probably because i didnt look into the matter much. What im wondering is how do you classify Gems in terms of taxing policies? What are they selling here? It cant be service as they sell currency valid on a different market…

There was a post about this from Mike O’Brien when the same question was raised just after release.

US dollar prices are displayed exclusive of sales tax, which is then added on to the price you pay later in the checkout process.

Euro prices are displayed inclusive of VAT, which is charged at 20% because ArenaNet’s EU operation is based in the UK, which has %20 VAT rate.

10 Eur / 1.2 = 8.3333333 Euros.

So Arenanet get 8.333 Euros when you spend 10.

Current exchange rate is 1 dollar = 0.75 Euro. When the game launched mid 2012, the exchange rate was actually 1 Dollar = 0.8x Euro, very close to what the 1 to 1 conversion works out at without the VAT.

It would be unwieldy to continually adjust prices based on exchange rate fluctuations, so 1 to 1 seems to me to be a perfectly sensible conversion.

At this juncture I should point out that if you buy in GBP, then you are getting the short end of the stick, because in that case they are charging more than just the cost of the VAT extra.

I absolutely agree with this guy!!!
Usually I roam in WvW destroying anyone in my way! then this guy came and steamrolled me before I realized what happened.

Agree with what? The guy didnt steamroll you because he had a +50 stat difference on what you call full ascended gear (which is simply not possible due to item cost and overall rewards available up until today), he steamrolled you because he was better or had a better build. Simple as that. Or is that just not possible given the fact you simply destroy everything in your way? lawl

As for jabronee, yes you can run through the game naked or you can start crying you need to do some dungeons or crafting to get exotic gear. What about the dungeon gear/runes argument? You simply disregarded that?
Second, ascended amulets and backpieces can be crafted. So no, you dont need your dailies to get them. Third, its actually like saying if you cant be arsed doing a specific content type you are inclined to whine simply because the option is there. Which type of pvp are you actually referring to? Spvp or WvW, cause afaik you can get the best gear in game just by doing that content alone.

Ascended gear as it is now only serves less skilled people to transfer performance anxiety onto a different principle.

And people should start taking medication for their ocd.

It was stated. Why this would elicit an official response is beyond me. It was said there are 5 distinct events and thats it. Anyone with first grade math could have realized the total number of cogs after day one.

It would be difficult to cater to everyone (no pun intended) but it would be nice to see some Tyria specific food and drink. What do Charr eat for wintersday? ^^

What people don’t seem to understand is that all your xmas recipes are culturally specific. Since GW2 is global and not local, introducing recipes that are related to a specific culture would be stupid. Your perception of xmas is not as everyone else.
Otherwise i want some sarma for xmas…

What penatbuter said… By casual orr farming you can get about 1g per hour minimum. Use the money to buy mats. Not that hard now… Or if you do not want to spend money just play the game and wait till you have enough.
Free tip…if you are saving for your legendary you dont actually need to “farm” any mats at all. Just by mystic clover conversion you will probably get more than 50, 60% of mats needed for the craft.
Actually you dont need to farm anything at all… noone forces you to grind for barbie dress-up. It’s another thing if you chose so.
@Decrypter You dont want to spend 2 MONTHS getting 250 RARE mats for a Legendary or Ascended? You want what? 2 weeks, days, hours? Or do you want it now?

A few years ago we proved that the world is not flat, but round and includes timezones. The time you are seeing is his local time, unless you live in the same timezone (Aus?) as the OP, your local time will be different. about 5am if in UK.

Thank you for the revelation. So if there are really different time zones around the world (which i believe is only a masonic conspiracy) and the guy populates such a different time zone where it was 19:30 then we cannot really talk about NIGHT shifts. Unless you are an infant and consider half past seven in the afternoon deep night.
