it stands to reason it should run a bit better, but don’t expect perfection with laptop components.
If you intend to buy it you should prolly run bootcamp on it as well instead of the beta mac client.
go to nvidia control panel and dissable Ambient occlusion from “Manage 3D settings”
the stuttering you notice when turning is when the graphics card loads and cache new resources such as other players who previously wasn’t there or buildings etc.
I usually get this too after switching from fullscreen window mode to fullscreen, but goes away after a turn or two once everything has been “seen”.
Now in static environments you don’t get this as much as you would imagine, but LA is anything but static.
Im inclined to say it isn’t a bug or any fault of your machine. You tend to see similar things in other games as well, in particular mmo’s with lots of players.
First of all get Ati card instead of Nvidia. They seems to preform better in this game due to bandwith of data etc.
Interesting, my impression just from monitoring the feedback on here was the opposite. Did anyone do the work to pull together a list with graphics cards and reported FPS for comparison?
It doesn’t seem like a placebo because we have people with gtx690s and 2×680s and 2×670s getting horrific fps on a decent cpu as well. Im not saying thats the case for all nvidia users but it does happen quite often. I only go down to 30 fps in giant events where everybody is spamming their abilities at the same time. I normally get 80-200 fps in pve depending on what Im looking at and get a pretty solid 55-60 fps in big cities like the black citadel and LA.
I think it’s nvidia kepler 6xx related error or possibly driver issue nvidia have to fix. I get very good performance on my setup. 560ti sli is a little faster then a single 670 unless vdram is an issue.
2600k at 4.6ghz and 2x 560ti sli.
Screen shot is me running with max settings 120fps (i got adaptive vsync on so it’ll never go above 120fps)
And also a performance log from me playing, doing events and some solo, pretty typical stuff really. Again, keep in mind the 120fps cap but you can see it never dropped below 60 even during events. the heavy drop spikes in gpu usuage is me opening and looking at the map screen.
So i get similar performance as you do, including in cities.
Well all you got was your friends subjective opinion.
You see it all the time with people who think 30fps is perfectly fine. While for you 60+ is required to be “fine”.
Judging from your specs I’d say the performance you see sounds about right.
You can lower “Reflections” and make sure Rendering is set to “Native”, those two can have a pretty big impact on performance.
if my driver crashes, it recovers automatically and it resets to it’s normal voltage/clock speed after a screenfreeze followed by a short blackscreen
happened to me a few times while testing different OC settings – in-game and at the desktop screenso blackscreen issues might be a driver crash, but not the FPS drops…other users must have noticed and also reported the short freeze/blackscreen before a FPS drop
Keep in mind though, your gpu is fermi, TC’s is Kepler and it’s different architecture with gpu boost clocks, dynamic voltage etc. So it might very well be fps drop due to driver crash if card remains in low power state afterwards or it could also be safty measure. These cards needs to be kept below 72c as thats the first thermal threshold for determining power state.
With the black screen and fps drop it sounds like it’s the nvidia drivers crashing and then recover. I’ve had that happen before but not in this game.
If it isn’t a known problem with the driver/card then it is the clockspeeds set too high or gpu voltage too low.
if other games work or not is irrelevant, they all put different load on gpu so may not trigger it. I’ve seen cards pass Furmark stresstest only to fail to complete 3dmarks Vantage.
the game dir is about ~15 Gb.
I’ve not noticed any performance loss, if anything it’s gone up a little bit as I seem to hit 120fps more often now and average around 85fps. But that could just be placebo.
I’m sorry friend, im out of ideas of what it can be
maybe something is keeping your card in low power state and is not detecting 3d properly?
I seem to recall issues with amd cards not clocking up if browser is running in background or some such (youtube).
download msi afterburner and check the hardware monitor to see if card is actually switching states when you start the game.
Also make sure you have no driver level enhancements on such as forced aliasing etc.
Hi guys, I couldn’t find any better forum to post to so I went with tech support. Sorry if this turns out to be a large post, and hopefully not controversial.
The scoop, as the title suggests, I’m seeking (if it may be possible) an average 120 FPS in mid-large battles in WvW. I am about to upgrade to a 120hz monitor for health reasons. (Visual migraines which my optometrist is sure will be lessened by the higher hz. Argue or not, dont care not relevant. He thinks it may help, I’m swapping.) Whit this change comes the desire to actually achieve flowing frames above 120. I realize there will be dips, I’m looking for an average if it can be achieved.
………………..
Just thought i’d ask,
Are you currently using a flat screen display?
Because if so, going 120hz will not help as flat screens do not flicker like old CRT displays do at low Hz and the advice of your optometrist is moot.
Try overclocking if you can. I have a Core2 Q6600 overclocked to 3.2GHZ and I am able to get 40-60fps in PVE. 15-30fps in cities/events/WvWvW
I would really advice against TC overclocking, it’s a laptop and as such tend to run hot as it is. Otherwise you’re right.
Smoothness on character is missing on start up

Yes i have noticed too antialiasing is missing on the character screen even though FXAA is enabled.
Edit:
Ok so I figured it out, it’s not an issue at all, its just how the game is designed so I’m not really sure what Ashley is on about.
FXAA is implemented in game, as such it will only affect in game and not interface elements. Notice your character in the Hero menu is also aliased?, thats rendered in the interface thus not affected by Fxaa, Character select screen is the same.
If you want to fix this then use FXAA Injector dll. You can google that to download it. It’ll put the filter on everything, including interface, icons and text.

Im having the same issue, but im using a geforce 550ti. so its not limited to ati only.
Go to nVidia control panel and disable Ambient Occlusion from “Manage 3D settings”
you have to enable 3dvision assuming thats what you’re using.
