You know, because that’s the explicit purpose for the gear in the first place; to gate additional content.

1) We don’t know that the Infusions will be necessary for future content beyond the Fractals dungeons.

2) The Infusions are only necessary for PvE content. If you primarily enjoy the PvE aspect of this game, then it’s awesome to be able to continue progressing your character. If you primarily enjoy PvP, this doesn’t affect you at all.

Try doing the higher level fractals without the infusion gear. It’s already created gated content.

Yes, it’s required for the Fractals. Duh. I said future content beyond the Fractals. You can’t argue that it’s gated content if the content is gated to itself.

Now, if it turns out that you need Ascended gear to survive in the next set of dungeons they release, that would be gated content.

Expressing frustration and complaints about a product to the company that makes and sells the product is immature and babyish? Who knew.

That’s not all people are doing. People are going absolutely apekitten, pretending that the bugged events (a small portion of the content, in all honesty) are all there is to everything.

Calling it a “pile of crap”, “idiotic”, “GG ANet” etc, is not voicing legitimate concern. It is immature. It is babyish. People ignore the parts that aren’t broken (you know, most of the content) because they like to be angry. 18 negative feedback threads to 1 positive one. That’s just ludicrous.

Why should people complain about the parts that aren’t broken? The forums don’t exist for us to give ANet “Heck-of-a-Job Brownies.” The forums are here for dissemination of information and discussion of the things that don’t work.

The game is good overall. That doesn’t negate our right to point out the things that aren’t good, and pointing them out does not equate to whining. Plenty of people that are calling the event or the game itself “a pile of crap” are voicing legitimate complaints, you just conveniently ignore them because they used one or two hyperbolic terms.

And for the record, I don’t think most people are upset because the event failed. It’s just one event, nobody really cares. People are upset because of the manner and scale of the failure. Many feel (and rightly so, in my opinion) that the execution of this event is indicative of an overall lack of creativity, insight into what the customer actually wants, and ability to properly execute and manage a game like this.

A LOT of people couldn’t participate in the Halloween event and this event due to work/life schedules and feel like they are going to be excluded from massive amounts of GW2 content over the years. They are unhappy.

A LOT of people who actually had the time were still unable to participate due to lag and bugs which could have (and should have) been foreseen by ANet. They are unhappy.

A LOT of people who had the time and managed to avoid/put up with the lag and bugs were subsequently disappointed by the content and its lack of entertainment value. They are unhappy.

So yeah, there are a lot of complaint threads. And there should be.

Yeah this thread is pathetic. It’s just a bunch of people who had some weird expectation that wasn’t met and are whining because they didn’t have fun. Personally, I had absolutely no problem progressing at all. And instructions for completing phase 1 is posted right on the main page of the website after logging in. In phase 2, the NPC led a huge group of us all around the island to complete the various stages of the event. It lasted much longer than “five minutes” and consisted of much more than just a short “boss fight”. The only people who had trouble are the ones who failed to read. Even the tooltip told you exactly who to talk to yet I saw many people constantly asking where to go, who to talk to, and if the event had started yet. Instruction was clear. I laughed my kitten off when people rushed head long off the bridge before it was built during one part of the event. That was the best part for me. Why? Because I learned long ago not to have crazy expectations of one-time events like this in MMO’s. They are what they are and appeal to some more than others. Most of the time I’ll check them out and just go back to doing what I find more fun. Right now it’s leveling a Warrior because I got bored of my 80 Thief. So do what is fun and if it’s not fun, don’t play it and ST_U. But to create post after post, complaining to Anet that you didn’t have fun is so immature and babyish it’s not even funny. Personally I find the amount of BS-ing on this forum disgusting, especially for a game people don’t even have to pay a monthly fee for. I find myself coming back to the forums less and less for this exact reason.

And on that note, i just want to say thanks Anet for giving us a great game that has aspects that can appeal to all gamer types. Glad to hear you’ll be adding more endgame PVE content as well. Now people who whine about how GW2 is just about PVP can stuff it too.

Expressing frustration and complaints about a product to the company that makes and sells the product is immature and babyish? Who knew. Man, why do we even have things like a Better Business Bureau when we can just label any legitimate concern as immature whining and then personally insult the people voicing said concerns?

So all those posts you made about issues with the Mac client, those were just babyish whining too then?

Can special events like Lost Shores be month-long?

But for the onetime ingame events well these would be hard to have everybody happy. so they have to pick a time when most people are logged in. though it would make sense to split between NA and EU times.

It’s not most people, it’s the “largest number of people,” which I’m sure is well below 50% of players.

However, you bring up a very good idea and I do hope they read it. By increasing the time period (even if the time period is a week, heck five days instead of three, instead of a month) they increase their range of people able to come to an event. Good suggestion.

Well this is the real issue I think. I look at it as simple lack of creativity. ANet thinks, “Well we can’t possibly do one-time scripted events lasting an hour or two for everybody. Not everybody is on at the same time, and if we keep running the event back-to-back then it’s not one-time anymore!”

Why do these events have to be so short? Why can’t they think of events that actually last a full month? I know it’s easier to throw together a short in-game cinematic, play it once, and call it done, but who does that benefit?

If ANet can’t come up with ideas for events that are less time-bound but still give that novelty of the moment and a sense of urgency, then they’re simply not being creative enough.

And heck, even if they aren’t creative enough for that, the least they could do is not always run them on weekends. Get enough events going that no matter what schedule a person has they could still participate in an event every other month on one of their days off or something.

Not to get overly political here, but the target audience for this game is largely composed of those in service industry jobs. And this number is not getting smaller. In fact, Americans between the ages of 18 and 30 are 4-5 times more likely to hold a service industry job than those of previous generations.

These jobs are often not 9-5 Monday through Friday jobs.

If you or ANet thinks they’ll be able to bankroll a game like this strictly by catering to a small minority and relying on a handful of individuals to buy more gems than they’d ever be able to spend, I think you’re crazy.

I’d like to see some statistics on how many people play this game vs. how many people are able to fully complete the special events.

And yes I know this sounds like complaining (because it is), but I work 50 hours a week with a 45-minute commute each day and have weekdays off. These events are practically impossible for me to attend, even though I love the game and would love to take part. I can’t be the only one.

except that ANet stated many many times that dungeons ARE MEANT for dedicated dungeon group with a very specific class make up and all exotic gear (well the class make up and gear is optional)

I was under the impression that class make up was supposed to be irrelevant and you could at least complete dungeons in masterwork level gear as long as you were competent with a decent build. This is how every other dungeon operates. Please tell me where they said you need to have a specific class combination to complete dungeons.

What’s the issue with 2? I know one has a ridiculous spawn rate on the set of 3 mobs. As for 2 did it last night with out an issue.

I don’t know if it’s a bug or intended difficulty, but the twin-golem final boss on Path 2 one-shots me even with full tank gear on my Guardian. I have 18k life and 3.1k armor and one lightning attack does 85% of my health.

you can craft power/perc/tough armor o.o it’s called Knights

I’d prefer not to spend 15g crafting or buying Exotic Power/Prec/Tough armor when I can gear any other character from dungeon runs and make money while I’m doing it.

And that still wouldn’t solve the problem of 2 out of 3 paths for SE being completely unfun and unplayable except with a dedicated dungeon group with a very specific class make up and all exotic gear.

As the title says, should we expect any changes to these paths in the not-too-distant future or should I just give up on running them?

I have completed both paths without bugs once or twice each, so I know they’re not impossible, but the difficulty is so high that it makes it near impossible with PuG groups. This also makes it near impossible to find anyone willing to run either of these paths.

Can we fix these soon please? Or at least add some Pow/Prec/Tough armor to another dungeon so that I don’t have to run SE?

Bwah? I auto-attack with the hammer darn near 90% of the time to keep up the field and combo with mighty blow…the other three skills are hardly used. In terms of skill usage, I’d go GS>Staff>Hammer in terms of utilization during combat.

Simply put, you’re severely underestimating the usefulness of skills 3, 4 and 5 on the Hammer. If you’re only using 1 and 2, you’re not utilizing the full potential of the weapon.

Quite the contrary, I know exactly how useful they are. That doesn’t change the fact that I can’t use #4 or #5 with reliability in dungeons, and #3 is an afterthought once I’m engaged with the enemy. I love using the latter skills in PvP/WvW, but in terms of PvE they lose to the GS and Staff. That was my point.

You’re also not using GS #5 in PvE, and Hammer still has more skills-per-minute with 1 through 4 than GS has with all 5.

Bwah? I leap in with GS, hit symbol, hit them with chains, use #1, whirl, then interrupt with chains. How is that, in any way, shape or form, even close to what the hammer does? Keep in mind that pretty much every skill for the GS involves an area, and you can easily use a shout build to bypass utility casting times.

You can’t possibly tell me that you don’t use the chains as an interrupt, or that any singular GS ability can’t be used at any time during a fight effectively. The hammer is more selective in its approach, which I love and embrace. But don’t kid yourself into thinking the GS skill set is somehow more selective.

No, the GS skill set is not more selective. Though 95% of the time, I don’t use chains as an interrupt simply because I don’t need to. I’m a Guardian, I’ll just take the hit without flinching (we’re still talking PvE, right?). The auto-attack does more DPS than #5, so why take longer to kill something when I’m in no danger of dying?

With respect to PvE, GS 1 through 4 are pretty much constant usage as soon as they’re off CD. 5 is fairly selective. Hammer 1 through 3 are pretty much constant usage, with 4 and 5 being fairly selective. Even given the fact that you’re generally utilizing one less skill with Hammer, you still end up using more skills per minute with Hammer than with GS. That’s all I’m saying.

Guardian -
We are moving towards retaliation being more of a counter to taking many hits rather than a general boon to keep up all the time.

Does it mean that retaliation goes away after a multi-hit? I guess I dont understand how it works now. If anyone can clarify I would appreciate it!

It means they want Retaliation to move from a virtually permanent uptime to utterly useless. If the direction they want to go is to make retaliation only situationally useful against extended attacks, then it might as well not be there.

Trying to study every classes animations so you can perfect your timing with activation retaliation is futile, since only noobs are going to be Pistol Whipping/Hundred Blades-ing you without Quickness up. Activating retaliation simply to do 200-500 damage after you’ve just taken 5000-8000 damage is a waste of time.

Adding the cooldowns together doesn’t accurately portray the amount of time you spend waiting on cooldowns. With GS you’ll be auto-attacking roughly 87.9% of the time, with Hammer you’ll only be auto-attacking 74.3% of the time. I think I might make a new thread about this tomorrow.

The GS still has the lowest cd’s of its overall skills than the other two, however. The change was made so that the symbol didn’t help give a perma-retaliation to the player. Hopefully the devs tweak retaliation in a bit, rather than try to re-balance the entirety of Guardian’s light fields. Then again, I don’t really use my GS much anymore, so I can’t comment on its new efficacy.

Not true. If you discount the use of #5 for both GS and Hammer (Since #5 is generally situational in use and not part of a damage rotation for either weapon), GS can use 14 Skills per Minute while Hammer can use 18.4 Skills per Minute.

If you’re picky and you want to include #5, GS is at 16 SpM and Hammer is at ~19.9 SpM.

Well they’ve stated they want to make the tPvP into e-sport…

On a tangential note, chasing after E-Sport status is pointless. E-Sports are a dying fad, doomed to failure by the pace of technology and the profit-driven video game market. As long as shareholders push design companies into releasing cheap new iterations every couple of years, it’s going to be impossible to form a cohesive E-Sports following because nobody cares who’s best at a game they don’t own, and the public at large can’t afford to buy every single video game that wants to achieve E-Sports fame.

That, and the anonymous safety of the internet completely removes any element of sportsmanship from E-“Sports.”

Guardian
- Perma Retaliation
kittened Warrior

So… you don’t want Retaliation to have a constant uptime. You want it to be a way to respond to taking lots of fast hits instead? Fine. Then increase the damage in relationship to the decrease in uptime. You’re also going to have to make it work somewhat retroactively, because activating Retaliation halfway through a PW or HB isn’t going to do you any good.

This would just be a giant mess of programming and re-balancing of every other class, so why not just take this stupid idea back and pretend it never happened? Why not just reduce the base damage of Retaliation?

I don’t know what this class is supposed to be anymore.

I think it was fairly balanced, then they nerfed HS simply to respond to unwarranted crying. The move was never OP, and I actually never “spammed” it on my thief. It was a utility skill that was only worth the initiative cost because it also did some decent damage. Now it’s not worth the initiative cost because it does very low damage.

But that’s a different topic. My concern here is not about the HS ability, it’s about the apparently knee-jerk reactionary balancing. If you’re just going to let the most vocal whiners balance the game for you, then PvP in GW2 is going to be a hot mess of unplayability.
