How will ANet honor our Great Lord Flame Ram?

With a new WvW and sPvP patch coming in Febuary or March, I would like to explore how Anet should honor our most beloved Tyrian demigod.

I, for one, would like to see a flame ram back piece that you either buy with badges or gems. The regular version would be that most awesome of siege weapons with the “ascended” version that you can create in the mystic forge with 500 badges of honor and some other items. The end result would be a flame ram that randomly shoots out flames (maybe after killing an enemy).

What other tributes should ANet be paying to the GLFR? What would you like to see?

I personally don’t think we’ll last in T3 for more than a few week for two reasons. First, we were propelled into Tier 3 not because were a dominating server, but because IoJ had a much higher rank and lost most of their WvW guild. This allowed us to game the Glicko system and jump 4 spots. Second, after we begin to lose the next couple of matches, we will begin to lose players as they seek greener pastures in either higher or lower rated servers.

I think, however, that we will again be able to troll tier 4 as we have always been destined by the grace of Great Lord Flame Ram. Up-and-coming servers and servers dropping from tier 3 will be converted to his mightiness and aid in his quest to defeat his archenemy, Under Lord Reinforced Door.

I’m sure mag will win next week after this weeks obliteration.

I can assure you that this will not happen. While we have gotten a lot better coverage, it’s probably for the worse as many of the new people don’t quite understand how it’s supposed to work on Mag. The only reason we are really “doing so well” is the fact the the highest ranked opponent is an absolute ghost server right now. Without IoJ to worry about, taking on Yak’s 1v1 is the only problem, and they would pose a much greater threat with a stronger 3rd team.

I honestly think that we will come in a close third next week right behind CD. I would enjoy that outcome the most as it will allow the glory chasers the chance to transfer before paid transfers, and it will allow us to do what we love to do most: Troll Tier 4.

IOJ had a decent oceanic presence, most of them left.

It would be nice if they did have enough now. That would keep the 3rd team’s keeps, towers, and garrisons soft making it easier to flip and harden for the day crew.

How do I transfer to maguuma? I’m sold.

From the character selection screen, select the character you want to transfer. In order to cross the WvW boundary into Maguuma, you need to exist only on the ethereal realm. To activate this, choose “Delete” and enter in your character’s name for each of your characters. This summons the Great Lord Flame Ram who purifies your account, washing away the filth of your previous realm. Once the process is completed, you must, like the phoenix, emerge from the ashes left by GLFR. Choose World Selection, then choose Maguuma and transfer characters.

You are now allowed to create your purified characters on Maguuma, but you must, however, begin rising through the “ranks” of server. There are 80 ranks, but you only need to be rank 1 to join WvW. As you raise in rank, you gain new abilities and traits that make your character more powerful.

So why did we put the bags at your feet rather than just dumping the items into your inventory? Part of the answer is that it was the smallest possible change that could work (programmers like stuff like that). We already had the bag spawning system so we could just reuse it. Another part of the answer is that picking up loot can be a bit like unwrapping a present and we didn’t want to ruin the unwrapping for everybody. Finally, if we just start putting loot into player inventory then we need to deal with a bunch of edge cases and at the time we had more pressing issues to work on. For example, when your inventory fills up items you receive go into inventory overflow and your character becomes encumbered.

We have tossed around some ideas for ways to improve the system but it’s relatively low priority so nobody is actively working on it right now.

You could always auto put a WVW Bag (aka a modified Miner’s Bag or other such loot bag) into the players inventory. They could/should stack to 250 and can then be opened at leisure. Thus only needing lets say four slots of inv space for a 1000 loot bags to be stored for a long war session.

This provides auto-loot without losing the “like unwrapping a present” feeling.

For extreme cases keep the loot bag on the floor system you have at present as backup for a filled inventory.

If there is a problem of loot level for killing low level players in the wvw then have WVW8 Bag for 80’s, WVW7 Bag for 70-79 and so on. Thus requiring a few more open spots in inventory but at present you need a ton of space and a fast as lightning ‘F’ key anyway, so 7 or 8 slots open instead of 30+ to me seems like a good compromise.

From a programming perspective, each player is allocated a certain amount of memory on the server to track the number of bags they have, their location, and their content. It seems to me that once a player is killed, a roll occurs, declares the loot and places that content into some queue. A despawn routine probably runs and removes each of bags that are past their TTL. Adding loot directly to your inventory, you now have to check each players inventory and in the end, for the edge cases, you still have to have the memory allocated to for each player’s loot bags as well as the overhead from having that system running on the server. The more players involved in fighting, the more taxing it becomes on the server.

Then there’s the question of rolling. The tagging system gives better loot for doing more damage (this needs to be addressed more than looting). So what do you do then? You either have to have predetermined bags in inventory or just roll for rewards when opening the bags. Now you have to rework the rolls to adjust for this change. Either players who do less damage get a better shot at loot inflating the system and everybody loses if you level adjust the drop rates to account for this. That’s a lot of research and testing that affects everyone from badge drops to economy.

Finally, if you didn’t have to worry about bag space, then there would be a lot less pressure to not only spend gold on higher level bags or to purchase additional bag slots with gems. Remember, you don’t pay a subscription and bag space is not a game breaking experience. Right now it seems like Anet is focuses on pumping out content to maintain a player base and in turn give them more flexibility in hiring people later. Personally, I’d rather have more content than an auto loot bag system.

I personally will never understand why in a game people fight for second place. When 3rd helps 1st to take down 2nd. 3rd and 2nd should Always team up to beat down #1 as far as possible then fight it out. 2nd place is the #2 loser. Every time I see Ehmry attack Yaks, while DB has easily takeable objectives.. it boggles my mind. You take more of #1 than us, then not only are you gaining on 1st, but second as well. Not complaining.. I like barreling into you guys and being killed by a few well placed strikes.. it is a game, but I don’t understand why you guys are not playing to win rather than place?

Here’s why…if you’re vsing a server you cant beat one on one…like our current matchup. Neither YB or EB can take DBs night crew, its more than both ours combined. Now if we teamed up to gank DB, then one server will have to concede 1st place to the other…otherwise soon as we start fighting each other for first, DB steps in and rolls over us both. So either we realize our servers limitations and hold to that…or we concede to the other. Im sure nobody on either server is willing to concede 1st place.

When Mag faced Yak’s and DB, we won. The reason we won is that DB would waste so much time in our BL trying to take our stuff that they would go after Yak’s first. The points during the night that we kept from DB helped push us over the edge. This is what you need to do in order to win. You don’t have to keep everything from being flipped, but if you can make it painful to cap, they will start with another server first. Then it’s just a matter of getting your stuff back and getting it upgraded to hold it for the next night. The entire day was spent getting yaks and supply and siege in keeps and towers to hold off the next round of night capping as long as possible while taking DB during the day. Anything we got from Yak’s was just a bonus.

Worst part of that whole thing: winning the round and losing a spot in ranking. That really hurt our server’s morale.

I, for one, welcome our new transfers. The guys from WäR will fit in nicely with everyone when we have to fight better tactically. They have a team that can ninja a keep or tower while a main force focuses on something else. Contrary to what the forums reads, most of the players in WvW welcome you guys and hope you stick around through the tough times that we will face again in T4. My only wish is that they submit to the will of Great Lord Flame Ram.

Where has AD been anyway? I saw 5-10 of you in Mag for the first few days and then you poofed. EBG?

As Dynnen said, up until this matchup we were almost always in the enemy BLs since we could play off of our larger guilds to feel like we were contributing to the server as a whole. We can’t do that in this matchup since a small guild running around with no presence on the map is not going to accomplish anything other than killing people outside their walls. So, we have been trying to help out in our own BL some.

As a side note, I think Mag is the best WvW server in this teir not just because of population advantage (which does help, of course). They also have a lot of very dedicated defenders who sit in towers and keeps for hours. That must be boring as hell at times. I hope they are multi-tasking for their sanity. They also have the strongest PUG groups I’ve run across from the different servers we’ve fought. Definitely stronger than BP in this teir.

Maguuma has PuGs willing to suicide themselves into a supply camp just to keep it contested long enough for help to arrive to prevent a cap. In other words, they have a lot of people playing for the server rather than for themselves. Credit is given where credit is due.

A lot of the time we spent in tier 4 was dedicated to preventing nigh capping as best we could. Even though we would never be able to hold off a 40 man Zerg vs 20 man Zerg from taking all of our borderland, we prided ourselves in holding East Keep and Garrison under dire circumstances. Everyone learned how to defend and found a sense of joy in it, not to mention a lot of servers who only succeed with night capping just throw numbers which make bagse farming extremely easy. I guess the community mumble also breaks down the boundaries between guilds. Goon, evoh, rmnt, mtho, pyro, etc all really have a respect for each other enough to make it about our true goal: paying homage to The Great Lord Flame Ram.

War Machine moved from SBI so looks like SBI is going to be taking a nose dive. Will be interesting to see if War Machine’s night capping is as bad as DragonBrand.

War Machine will be educational night capping, which is better than any night capping we’ve had previously.

Crystal Desert were the best night cappers. Hours and hours of badge farming as they literally just threw numbers at everything. I can remember one 4 hour session defending our garrison against a CD team that had a queue at 3am PST.

One of the people manning the inner SW cannon called out in /team “I got knocked off the cannon and can’t get back on it. I need someone to take over”

“Why? Is it glitched?”

“No, there are too many bags around me to get back on it.”

if you stand back and take a look at the predicted server points come reset. Then although Mag are going to win this battle – BP and DR are taking a bite out of their server rating. Ultimatley meaning that Mag is being locked into this tier.
The only likely change to happen shortly is the arrival of Kain who may upset the apple cart and cause 1 of these 4 servers to bounce between tier 6 and 5.

No, after a second week of this kind of action, Mag will be reinvigorated and DR and BP will lose interest in WvW enough for us to gain a larger point spread next week. This same thing happened to us two weeks ago when we came in first in our tier and still lost a spot in the rankings. After that, we lost a couple small guilds and people were just demotivated. I’ve already seen more players returning to WvW, especially in EB where our numbers in the previous weeks were dismal.

Yak’s Bend is on a downward trend as of recent. The combination of DB’s brutal night capping and Ebay’s strong NA presence are too much for them. As we saw in the week we won, Yak’s Bend doesn’t know how to handle having to upgrade and defend what’s been night-capped nor do they put up the effort to do so. The problem with Kain is that they are all members who rerolled to win, and at the first real challenge, will abandon ship again (maybe to Eredon Terrace). There is a big difference between a little burnout and jumping ship.

To me its fairly obvious there’s either a Truce or its just a case of picking on the new guy. You’re never in each others BLs… Never flipping each others stuff in EB. But blue always crawling up one side of the DR while green crawling up the other.

Green attacking Bay? Go check hills or Garrison water gate cuz blue will be attacking with them at the same time. Almost always happens.

No, there is no truce with BP, when I spend my time in EB, we flip what we need to in order to keep the pressure off of SM which includes Q and D. When you can get the enemy to spend an hour trying to take Durious 40vs10 while a wall is down, you really don’t need directly defend the SM.

To be honest, it was made very clear to us on Friday and Saturday that DR was actively mocking our Great Lord Flame Ram; his vengeance is limitless.

I take it that the last 3 CD posters were part of that horrible zerg in our borderlands that was unable to take the garrison. For those not there, lets examine why the zerg is called that.

1.) The numbers of CD were >2:1 if not 3:1. There was a good chance that our BL had a queue for them.

2.) For over two hours, the zerg tried its best to take something other than west keep and a northern tower (which was taken by beating down 40% of a reinforced gate after the rams were taken out).

3.) Instead of splitting there forces in an organized fashion and attacking either east keep or west hills, the zerg continued to pound its face against garrison.

4.) With numbers like that, they could have easily held NW supply and trebbed our east keep or even just taken the northeast tower straight up.

So where are the tactics? There were none other than shear numbers. Maybe this is just a reflection of the Oceanic and Asian players in that they don’t need the tactics with numbers. I know there have been a lot of decent battles with NA prime and with afternoon crowds, but how was what happened in the Mag Borderlands not the work of a mindless zerg? Give me 2:1 or 3:1 and I’ll clear the map.

Totally bro, if you can’t beat ‘em join ’em! Yup everybody on the CD bandwagon toot! toot! I was told by my friends to start with them on CD, but couldn’t so I randomly picked Maguma’s instead needless to say I jumped your ship first time CD came open & don’t care what you think lol.

Same old song & dance, assume when someone says something about your server, they’re lying or have no ground. Cute. And you’re talking about two different times there, buddy. If you don’t think your oceanic presence isn’t a zerg compared to an NA presence (at that same time), then you’re a bad troll or really ignorant.

I don’t know what you’re trying to say here, yeah we have a good number of Oceanic players, but we are out-numbered by Maguma’s in NA Prime so really both sides zerg at different times and if you don’t like it go get some asians. My question is why doesn’t Maguma’s zerg do anything but defend when they outnumber us in prime-time?

Seeing as you are a fair-weather player, you never see that CD and EBay are always in our borderlands together not because we are the softer target but because our forces are split. Even then you only occasionally take west keep. But still, how many times have you seen us hold that land and a large chunk of either EBay or CD? Tons. CD, as mentioned in this thread, still has q’s to both their and our borderlands during NA prime and we pop instantly. So your argument about NA presence being even isn’t really stacking up.

Maguuma went on ROIDS last night. They were all over the place in pretty big groups of 20-30 people. Good job on not giving up.

I hope that the CD people get back into WvW and not continue to let it go after building a big lead. We need a larger margin of victory so we can get some fresh competition in t3.

I had so much fun in the CD borderlands yesterday. We were able to muster a group of people who listened very well and moved quickly in both large and small groups. One squad was dedicated to the south with about ten players with a secondary group raiding everything in the north.

There were a few times when we were seiging Cragtop that we were outnumbered 2:1 or 3:1 and were either able to use the high ground and siege or quick responders to help with some if the fights; however, after we took Cragtop, the full fury or your night crew came out to defend. Really a ton of fun and great teamwork.

If it weren’t for eBay hitting our borderlands, I would have loved to stay there all night.

Went to bed and woke up 8 hours later, glad that CD is still holding about 60% of the territory. Go CD!

Crystal Desert – 118k, +290
Maguuma – 74k, +145
Darkhaven – 65k, +260

Every night I go to bed and the score is something like this:

Crystal Desert – 165
Darkhaven – 195
Maguuma – 320

It’s really depressing to fight your way to the top during prime-time hours, only to wake up to a huge deficit. Overall it’s not that bad, I guess. I’ve come to feel that this bracket is the cutoff between those servers with larger Oceania and European players bases vs servers with just a large NA presence.
