Yeah but for as much as it would be nice to at least give those ideas a try/test phase… it’s a complete rework of a class, in a game that is more than 2 years old. Not gonna happen.

What I am talking about is not a rework at all and could be implemented with the equivalent of a “blink of an eye” of a game programmer.

I don’t think every Mesmer should have Distraction/Distortion on demand. That alone makes it kind of OP in my opinion. That being said, I haven’t really played a “shatter” build outside of my 0/4/6/4/0 support shatter build, so I’m not sure if I have much helpful insight into the situation.

Well, think it like this: accessible 1 second distraction/distortion is what would make people actually use the core mechanic of this class..

Of course then if you want reduced CD on shatter, might on shatter, recharge shatter at 50% hp and other useful stuff for a shatter build you would still have to invest heavily in the last trait line.

I can see that some balance would need to happen in PvP environment but ok, that’s normal and that’s just one aspect of the game.

F3 and F4 are always useful in any build, I don’t know how you can play successfully without using these two.

But I agree that F1 and F2 are kind of useless in non-shatter condition builds.

F2 is a little useless in non-IP power builds unless taking something like shattered concentration and the other three shatters happen to be on cooldown in which case it is useful for boon strip.

Personally I see it as we don’t have to use all the shatters – they are just there so we’re given a choice. Otherwise pick and choose which ones you want to use based on the build/situation.

Actually F3-F4 are pretty useless in WvW without IP because you most likely won’t have a clone/phantasm up when you need them —> you end up not using them because of being unreliable.
F2 in a power build is completely useless (unless you trait for boon stripping)
F1 is the only one I actually use both in PvE and in WvW, mostly because with GS #2 you are nearly guaranteed to have a clone in the right place to shatter, when you are attacking. you can’t really use that defensively (F4) tho..

So as I see it, at the moment, without IP, the shatter are useful just in PvP environment, where your clone/illusions aren’t usually immediately destroyed and you kind of can control them and decide wether to shatter them and for what purpose.

Someone here said that without IP the class seems incomplete and I absolutely agree, that’s the whole point of the thread.

For example also Guardians have F1-F3 skills that they can activate at will.. and they haven’t any cumbersome mechanics like the one Mesmer’s have.. and they are at least equally as good.

I think it should not even be a trait and instead it should be how the class works at the very base.

How many ppl agree / have thought about this?

F1-F4 are barely useful because they’re unreliable without that GM trait. In fact I played most of my time as a mesmer without even bothering to use them.

(I mostly play power builds and usually I play Dungeons and WvW)

Hammer – Sword/Warhorn
shout-heal and double stability from trait + 1 utility, healing signet and adrenal health.

I think I lost my last 1v1 in WvW with this spec in 2013 against a blackwater mesmer, which I got extremely close to beat.. with the only difference that I CHOOSE to stay and fight while he HAD to stay and fight.

Awesome for small scale and ZvZ thanks to Hammer CC, sword leap, 2 short CD shout-heals/traited warhorn, extremely good health pool and HP regeneration.

I’m surprised I didn’t see more people suggesting this!

How these things don’t get thought of for features in development for months….it’s cool to communicate cross server but there needs to be a limit for current WvW matchups.

There doesn’t need to be a limit in cross-server communication for servers currently in the same WvW matchup.. it would just be nice if writing in /team chat in a PVE maps lead to the message be seen just by your server population.
I reckon that /team chat was not built for that so it would be nice to have a chat channel that works like that.

End of the story.

Sorry for not understanding it was instantaneous population instead of average population but the same things applied

1. Not all server are able to do the same things with the same numbers
2. Anet doesn’t want to release information on population number

#1: …that’s kind of how you should distinguish a bad server from a good one.
There’s no reason why with the same numbers one server can’t do what another one instead pulls off.

#2: I think you still don’t get the part about the population… it’s not about server population but just how many people your server has in WvW maps at any given moment. And I never said this number needs to go public.

As for the rest, I think the system should be as fair as possible (also from a customer POV it should be like this. Imagine a new player choosing server randomly and ending up in one of the last ones, with the current system he would be stuck in WvW depression and will be forced to leave for a more stacked server. With what I proposed the server population eventually will balance itself out.) and like I proposed it, it is as fair as it can get.

Anyway it’s clear that there would be a lot of benefits in the long run.. but people want to zerg and to complain so I probably should even stop trying to suggest this sort of stuff.

1. Making the scoring dependent on population might produce unexpected results. I play on a lot of different servers and the population vary a lot. Even in the same tier between 2 opponents that perform equally well. That is to say that the “skills” of the players vary a lot. We often say that the population win the match up but it’s rather the effective population. Some server are able to do less with more and some server do more with less. It’s just how it is and I bet a couple of players would not like to learn that number wise they suck.

Arena Net only gave hint to population numbers 1 time if I recall correct. Call me crazy on that one, but before the league started Devon Carver said that some server might stand a chance fighting against server way higher than theirs : example BP in bottom tier 4 at the time and Dragon Brand middle tier 2 at the time. Having played on both servers, I can tell that strangely the wvw population looked similar on both servers…

Let’s see how HoD perform against FA next week… HoD probably have more numbers than FA currently since they can queue many maps at a time. If HoD beats FA, we can review this counter argument.

2. Arena Net doesn’t want to release population information. I don’t know the exact reason but they don’t. If we tied the score to the population in some way, people will be able to calculate the relative population of each servers and Arena Net doesn’t want that.

I’m talking about the instantaneous number of people that each server has in WvW. The number of people that are in a WvW map fighting for your server (not counting EoTM, it’s a PVE map, you know). Server population has little to do with this.

3. Your system is probably too fair. This is the biggest issue.

Wasn’t fairness the target of this whole discussion? I mean, if we wanted a system in which stacking servers is encouraged and there’s no chance for a low active WvW population server to do anything in WvW beside roaming / small scale fights I think we don’t really need to change anything!

As the current one is too good at finding the strongest server, yours help too much the losing servers. We need to kitten the strength of the servers. If a server is losing very badly, it’s a not a very good idea to magically boost it’s score to give him the opportunity to win.

The current system is too good at finding the server with the bigger active WvW population around the clock, and that’s it. It has little to do with strength, skillful gameplay, tactics and such, that SHOULD be the metrics to define a server stronger than another. Up to now a server is stronger than another if it has better coverage.

And I never spoke of magically boosting the score. What I meant is that if 2 servers have a big gap in active wvw population at one time, the one that outnumbers should naturally be able to get a major percentage of the map and it should not be rewarded for doing so, because it’s just normal.
And if in this situation the outnumbered server manages to capture a tower, this will grant this server more PPT than the same tower would grant to the outnumbering opponent.

This also encourages to defend stuff from both sides and gives value to tactics like sending few people to capture camps around the map. And completely favours splitting zergs around the map to cover a major part of it.

And most importantly this system would promote skillful gameplay, strategy and “healthy” metrics to compare different servers while vastly reducing the benefit of coverage and stacking servers.
In fact I would say that this would promote destacking and splitting the population equally among servers (because seeing how many slackers there are in WvW these days in T1/T2, people looking for good gameplay will look forward to move to a server without said slackers, and that’s where T8/T7/T6 servers shine! but now you can’t even consider it because with the current PPT system you will just get destroyed every week).

- Scoring SHOULD be influenced by the total amout of people that each server individually has in WvW at each time (not divided per map, it would be nonsense since border hopping is a reality), in a way that (in a simplified WvW with just 2 servers facing each other) if a server has 60% players in WvW of its total capacity and another has 40% players in WvW of its total capacity then if the first server owns a number of structures that would give him the 60% of the total score (60% of 695), and the other owns 40%, then they both get THE SAME PPT (excluding bloodlust/finishing points) because they are both giving their full potential and they should be equally rewarded for that.
- all fixed Time-based score influencing that has been suggested is a bad idea, there’s no such thing as a more important time slice, as some of you have suggested, which leaves me baffled.
- any static way of influencing the score is bad, the system needs to be dynamic and adjusted as soon as more people log in and/or out of WvW (with some buffering to not pressure servers with too much new real-time work to do)
PROS:
- Fair scoring around the clock even in case of unbalanced matchups !!!
- others to be thought of (I’m lazy and feel I’ve done enough for today with achieving the previous point)
CONS:
- there will be people whining stuff like “oh come on, we have nearly everything in every map and we are just scoring a tad more than our opponents”.. to which a good GG for fighting no opponents is well deserved.. :/ (and well, minor gg to aNet for giving the guys a very unbalanced matchup too)
- probably not any other unlaughable one.

I don’t want to be too optimistic here but if they’re sparing quite a lot of server power cutting by some orders of magnitude the overall number of PVE instances… they could have the server-power to raise/remove the ridiculous 5-man AoE cap that now can’t be touched because of lacking said server power! :O

Yep, purple is awesome, no need to change it.

That being said, it would be really nasty on server load to have customizable spell colors. It would need to do a full additional render and particle change for every single spell every single time if different spell colors were possible.

That’d not be really necessary, the render is of course client-side so anyone could render it just as smooth as now

If there were 4 colors in total you could send them in 2 bits it’s not like the internet is going to collapse for that, even with millions of users :P

Well PU does apply to Mass Invis at least, but yes I think turning Time Warp into a glamour would be really quite interesting. From an sPvP/WvW viewpoint I think it would open up some cool builds with more Mesmers going deep into Inspiration to bolster their unique supportive role. Maybe the CD reduction would be significant enough to gently edge Mesmers back into some sort of important meta role in sPvP? Maybe this would be enough to revive something resembling the glamour builds of yesteryear?

I don’t really have much of an opinion in regards to PvE. Surely a slightly longer lasting Time Warp on a shorter CD is of benefit to everyone in PvE?

Finally someone said what I was thinking, it would maybe bring back some viability in PvP group play, I never mentioned it but I was thinking about WvW throughout my posts because that’s the game type I play on my mesmer. (for boss farming / dungeons my warrior is better by far)..

..and I think someone got way too excited (wolfpaq) about this change that would just make sense.
Do I need to remind you that TW effect is received by 5 players? at least in WvW the change I’m talking about wouldn’t make that big of a difference except that maybe someone will start playing glamour build again which is one of the “only” zerg build available to this class.
As far as PvE is concerned it won’t change much anyway no matter how much you struggle to make it sound OP, I’m sorry besides, you’re fighting against some nice script-mob, they don’t get offended if 5 of you bash them 50% faster for 10 seconds and 20% more often, I can assure you, they’re pretty forgiving guys those scripts!

Yeah but in someone’s opinion if it lasted barely 2 seconds longer and was on a 168 seconds cooldown instead of 210 (that are 3.5 mins, not 4.5 btw and 2 dedicated traits you’d need for this) it would be too OP.. don’t know what to say to that..

The skill it clearly a Glamour skill, just crippled by not having the “Glamour” label.

I don’t know what other people think about this but it won’t be easy for you to make me change idea about this.

And just for comparison’s sake, warrior’s Warbanner is a very powerful skill, it has the label “Banner” and so it can be influenced with reduced cooldowns / larger area of effect / damage on summon (if anybody would ever use it anyway) / regen / whatever traits. I didn’t play much other classes so I don’t know if there are other examples of clear misbehaviour.

So add the kitten tag to out TW so IF we want we can have it on a slightly reduced CD and we can give some blind/confusion. It would just make sense. And I couldn’t find an already made thread about this, which left me a bit baffled!

Just an update and not so relevant.

Out of curiosity I’m trying a condition build that I made and well, I’m a bit kittened.
I think I’m an average player, and until now, all of the 1000h that I have on my mesmer were spent playing power build and anyway mostly and lately pure phantasm / PU-phantasm.
I usually deal pretty well on 1v1 against every profession except from high stealth – backstab – blindspam thieves and that was one of the reasons that made me make this topic, to try and understand if it’s normal behaviour of my skills or something was actually wrong.
And well, the first 2 encounters I had with thiefs with my new condition build ended unexpectedly in my favour, with thieves self-melting on my conditions while I was panicking and not really knowing what I was doing… so I’m a bit kittened because playing a power spec that I like and know how to play gets me dead but facerolling on the keyboard on a condition build gets them dead..

Is it worth noting that if you’re blinded and you try casting a phantasm skill not only you fail the cast but you’re still blinded after that!
Tell me that it’s still perfectly ok now please. every skill that was supposed to hit your target, if you’re blinded will remove blind from you. These skills I’m talking about just don’t!

Someone mentioned Hexes. I didn’t play GW1, it’s a new word for me and your contribution in this thread = nil. I can’t justify my skills being broken because of what happended in another game!

I think it makes no sense at all that if I get blinded while casting a phantasm then the skill fails and the whole CD has to go through.. especially because it usually happens against backstab thiefs while casting Illusionary Dueler and by the time the CD goes off I’m downed.

And beside of the fact that it has a major impact on the outcome of an encounter with a thief, it is a summoning skill! It’s not that if I’m blind I can’t summon stuff! I wonder if Necros have the same problem but I would say they haven’t.

A couple of fixes could be:

- summon the phantasm and make him blind like I was when summoning.
- make the skill go on low CD, like when you get interrupted!

Full CD is a joke and just another broken mechanic that this class suffer.

@Nikkinella Yeah you have a 40 seconds CD on a weapon setup that 60% of the whole pool of elementalists use… here we are talking about a warrior with GS – S/WH being too mobile.. and I believe that less than 5% of the warriors use that weapon combo, because it’s ridiculously useless, it is used just to run fast from point A to point B, then you will surely swap out your GS for a Hammer or a Longbow depending on the situation..

So don’t complain of a warrior being too mobile with that weapon setup because you may not be able to stop and kill one but there’s no way that you’ll be killed by one either!

Needing advice for new laptop

Hi ena,
I recently had to purchase a new laptop on which I wanted to be able to play Gw2, and since I mainly play in WvW I thought I couldn’t cut it even with a high specs laptop.
Luckily I was wrong, with a high specs laptop I can play in wvw just as fine as I do it on my Desktop.

Anyway, I am italian too and finding a good laptop at agood price is a tough quest for us.
I finally found the laptop I wanted and got it from a British company that sells custom laptop for very good prices.

Mine has:
i7 4700MQ
8GB RAM 1600MHz
GTX 765M
750GB HDD (+ 2 free mSATA ports, one of which is soon to be filled with an SSD)
1920×1080 screen resolution 13.3"

..and all of that at 1000€ (delivered), from pcspecialist.co.uk

In their website you can try and configure varios laptop.. defaults have a very low spec / low cost Pentium Dual Core CPU which you will need to upgrade (personally I wouldn’t go lower than an i5 4200M), but swapped the CPU for a decent one and the base 2GB for at least 4GB (and 8GB doesn’t really result in a big price tag difference) and you find yourself with a very good laptop compared to any similarly priced one from italian resellers!

This is a common issue with WiFi and is why you should avoid online gaming with it if at all possible – unless you are literally in the same room as the router.

These days nearly everyone has a wireless router; including my neighbor who (evidently) has the super-powered router from…

As previously said I’m playing from 20cm to 1m from my wireless AP.
And it’s not that I choose to play on wireless if it is what you are implying.

I (and many will be with me probably) don’t really give any kitten about your neighbour’s router so..

On topic, this is likely NOT an issue ANet should even be TRYING to solve….NOTHING in a game can disconnect your system from the internet. It is a router / wireless adapter / driver issue on YOUR end. Other players here will certainly be willing to assist in isolating and trying to solve the problem, but the fact that others are sure no issues exist with a cable connection indicates this is in no way a GW2 software issue (tho very high network traffic when in very crowded zones COULD cause the failure to trigger).

“Nothing in a game can disconnect your system from the internet” I felt to requote this just to say: wow, how lucky, 2 ANet developers in a row! awesome!

Yet it appears that a lot of people lately are experiencing this issue.. but yeah I guess you’re right, ANet should definitely not care nor trying to solve an issue that they introduced in a very specific point in time.. it is totally a coordinated user issue, yeah.

I’m playing at 20cm to 2m distance from my wireless router, I have the latest Wi-Fi Drivers and there’s noone else connected to my wireless connection (and not in a crowded zone). Same issue, with ethernet cable, experienced very rarely @home months ago, with totally another setup. Next?

The game can’t do anything to affect routers or access points. The data is generated and passed down the stack where the data is formatted. Honestly sounds like you need to update your drivers for the wireless card on your laptop.

So I imagine that you say this because you are actually one of the developers that implemented it.

As for the second part it is equally useless as the first, as I have a Killer Wireless – N adapter with latest driver installed AND I was getting this same problem months ago @home, on a desktop PC, with cable connection, on a different router, very much rarely tho, at least.

Nah there’s no issue if you’re playing with cable connection..

Also, now I have a laptop with cable connection and I’m using it as a wi-fi hotspot to give wireless connection to my gaming laptop where I play Gw2. And I haven’t had any disconnect since.. (I don’t like this solution btw)

So in my opinion guild wars 2 is doing something that most wi-fi routers/APs can’t sustain, while cable or extremely geared routers (I have a whole laptop acting as a router atm) can.

Edit: Just got the same old 7: … :101 disconnect error with the wireless setup described above :/

Just an update, I have found a related thread:

..with people describing this exact same issue and proposing some kind of solutions, that worked for a limited amount of them so better than nothing
I am about to try at least a couple of them and will let you know.
Also, I have tried to play on ethernet and I haven’t experienced the issue in those 2hours.
It might have been sheer luck as I also had sessions of 4-5 hours without experiencing the issue while on Wi-Fi.

Now, I experienced this same issue also at home on my PC but far less frequently (once every few days of playing, so it was not an issue).
I played on this laptop (with very high specs) for the last 3 weeks and haven’t experienced this until 2 days ago. I didn’t try connecting directly with an ethernet cable at the moment, I will try (maybe) in the next days. After tinkering a little bit with the compatibility options I managed to play this evening with just 1 disconnection.
I have tried using Win XP SP3 compatibility settings and it seemed fine but then I had the black screen issue so I changed to Windows 7 compatibility settings and it seems to work better, no black screen and just 1 disconnect in the last 5-6 hours.
I am firstly getting the error message I attached, then after 30 seconds the error changes to this one: 58:11:5:512:101 .

One last note just for @Inspired: you surely can do that and even very easily if the application then is run with Administrator Privileges.

I’m tired of it,
since last patch I’m having far too frequent disconnects and since I mainly do WvW that means that if there’s a queue, everytime I DC I have to requeue and if there is no queue (rarely these days) I can play for 10-15mins (even less, sometimes I barely make it into LA or wherever my character is) before getting disconnected again…

BUT as if this wasn’t annoying enough

the most annoying thing is that it is not a game crash, it is the game dropping my laptop’s internet connection, and that is unacceptable, your game at the moment is a kitten VIRUS, you can’t code yuor game in a way that it can disrupt one’s internet connection. (And it’s not the whole connection dropping, just the one on the computer running Gw2.exe, my other laptop and my smartphone are still online).

What happens is: in WvW I start seeing people going in a straight line, I can’t use any skill and soon I get the infamous “the game client lost connection to the server”. After 3-4 seconds my Team Speak client loses its connection too and I am stuck without internet until I kill Gw2.exe from task manager. Within 20 seconds since killing Gw2.exe process my connection starts working again.
I want to add that I am not experiencing any similar connection issue when I am not playing Gw2.

Come on, I get that somehow things like this can happen, although they should not.

But it cannot be that long of a process to fix that.
Even mos.millenium.org/matchups/ has the correct pre-patch matchups and scores.. just manually set them and reset the maps.. and let us play!

I think I-m dealing with the same problem since quite a long time now, tried reinstalling OS but it just keeps happening, whenever I exit the game in a minute my PC become unresponsive and have to manually restart it.

It is very frustrating as I can’t find a way to solve this issue at the moment, my computer works good with any other software/game I use/play, just have this big annoying issue with GW2.

If you’re a computer enthusiast you know how you feel when you have to push power or reset button to shut down or restart your PC.. I hope this get fixed asap.
