I logged in, died, some kind soul resurrected me and I died again – all before the game interface had finished loading and I could actually move or do anything.
Logging into a zerg slapped my PC quite hard.
I just thought it was amusing, shrugged, found an uncontested WP and repaired.
Try this: Log in ON the hour. LA will all be closed then and you should appear outside. The events start at 5 mins past the hour, so dead on the hour or even at 5 minutes to, should be a safe bet.
LR is not home for me, never has been, I did try but really didn’t get on there. Having a ghost town place to park, with almost all the amenities, has it’s advantages (like fast loading times).
Besides, they released a paid for airship pass to an area with all the amenities in one place, at the same time as they exploded the previous free main area with amenities. Seems legit.
Not a bad thing, not knocking it. If you want absolute convenience, then you have the option to pay, otherwise come to some of the real home cities. Some of us like it there and would welcome a few more visitors.
There are no pvp servers. All pvp in gw2 is in special areas that you cannot really just wander into.
If you want to find a server that is active in pve, go here: http://www.gw2state.com/events.html#
Search through the US servers and find the one with the most events completed (bottom of the page), pick any area you like and compare it against the same area on other servers. This will give an INDICATION of how active the server is for PvE. There is no proper way to do it, but this has helped me find busy servers for guesting.
There are also now levels in WvW…WvW levels that allow you to specialize. There are changes being made to that too, as soon they’ll be account bound levels, where right now, each character has to be leveled separately.
Pondering: If one deletes char(s) (possibly with the intention of moving server), will their wvw ranks count when the account wide wvw rank is finally calculated? Personally, I doubt it, I expect any ranks gained on deleted chars will be lost.
But yes, low levels are cannon fodder. Although I’ve had huge fun as low level in wvw. It was an amazing way to learn damage avoidance and how to get the best from my characters skills.
If low levels could have large stores of supplies on them, they would become something for the zerg to protect. Like a pack horse, lol. Easily killed but valuable. The apprentices do all the dirty work? (kidding, kidding)
’Looking into 2014 and back on the plot of the main story of 2013, many questions remain: why did Scarlet brings these groups together? What did she see when she looked into the eternal alchemy, and how did it change her? What is she trying to accomplish? Is she just nuts, or is there something far more sinister going on? How do each of these moments through 2013 tie together?
The answer to all of these questions await in our four upcoming releases in 2014: and lead to one final moment that will change the face of Tyria forever.’
The LS is a temporary storyline that leads to a permenant conclusion, which will change the face of Tyria forever. I suspect that conclusion and change is the ‘something big’.
I’ve tried lots of MMOs…WoW, Rift, Aion, Perfect World, Lotro, DDO, Eve, TSW and a bunch of others… this is the only one I could stomach for more than three or four months. lol
Totally agree, similar experience for me. I played WoW the longest and after 6 years quit, since then I haven’t maxed a char in anything other than DCUO (at release, but that was easy). They just couldn’t hold my attention for long enough. So, thanks ANet, it feels good to enjoy an MMO again.
And welcome to GW2 ATC, I agree with your list (dodge isn’t unique, tera and probably others have it too, fun though!). It’s a great game and I wish you many happy hours of enjoyment in Tyria!
Collaborative Development Initiative? Not certain about initiative, seems to fit, the first two words are correct.
It’s slower on Wine, unfortunately.
GW2 might make the leap, but I doubt it. Having said that, the Havoc physics engine used by GW2 is already Linux compatible.
Next gen might be a different story. Rumours abound that high profile games and engines are cross developing. CryEngine, for instance – their server side can already run Linux, it’s looking reasonably likely that the next major interration of the engine will run client side too. Although they have recently simply stated that they have not made any public statements to confirm or deny the rumour. The rumour is based on job advertisements and word from a 3rd party developer with inside info.
Valve are reporting speed increases of 16% fps on native Linux code over the same machine running native Windows.
Main manufacturers ARE working on linux dev – ATI, nVidia both have drivers.
If one of the most popular benchmarking games made it over to Linux via a CryEngine udate and is seen to perform better on Linux. Just watch the uptake then. If you are a power gamer and have to have BiS then no doubt the BiO (Best in OS) would be essential too.
Lots of if’s and unknowns. But, if major developers are even already thinking about it, then SteamOS is going to make them think even harder.
If you want the references for these details, use google and have a look.
The other week, when I was playing my warrior. My wife said to me ‘Why does your game keep saying Gwendolin Rising?’.
