yep, thats the way you gotta do it
thanks for the info though
neither seems like that big a deal, i’d be more concerned about globs of ecto rather than ore, which is only guaranteed to drop until they change server xferring policy
As I’m not able to access the trading post i’m trying to figure out what you mean, how greatly have prices dropped? why exactly are people offloading their goods at low prices?
if my questions don’t make sense its because I don’t quite get what you mean.
I’m starting a trading guild that will offer secure escrow for p2p trading and trade chat.
Definitely gonna message you when I’m online tonight. I’m all for putting this into action.
Reading it over, most people seem to be on pretty much the same page looking at it from different angles.
I think what it comes down to is Anet has to answer to NCsoft. If it’s a gameplay issue blame Anet, if it’s a profit issue blame NCsoft. Limiting trade to the Trading Post indirectly increases gem purchases.
I don’t know why I expected a forum representative to tackle this question. It’s surprising they even took the risk on the other thread, answering about player trading at all.
I doubt they’re going to ever do anything to discourage TP trading excluding anything that looks like it’s being done by a bot.
Why? The 15% total trading post tax is the most effective gold sink in the entire game. WvW is the second most effective. Between those two they’ll be able to prevent inflation and the more selling that goes on, the more gold that disappears.
Preventing inflation is pretty important in this game considering their only future revenue is from gems and the benefits of the gem trading system offers to both paying and non-paying players.
Not sure if I can explain this well, and probably would be better to link screenshots but I’ll try words first.
When I use the Sell Items tab in the TP each item I click shows 2 pieces of data: highest buy order and lowest sell order. This is fine but it doesnt reveal all the current sell orders. This results in it being better off to search specifically for that item in the “search trading post” tab since I’d rather see all current sell orders.
For anyone that gets what I’m saying up to this point, you probably also run into the same problem: you’d rather see the most accurate current sell order price of an item. It doesn’t help to know some guy listed 6 vials of blood at 1c more than the highest buy order. It helps way more to know that the current difference between a buy and sell order on an item like the example given is, say, 60 copper.
This goes for other differentials that are the result of some degree of undercutting. I’m happy to wait for an item to sell, but I’d still like to price it competitively.
I’m confident I’m using the menu as best as I can to figure out the info I need to set a price, but if I’m wrong has someone found a better way to use the UI?
Yea the server transferring system to gain additional hits on nodes is probably the reason.
Though, if receiving 2 silver and 60 copper for my full run of CoE explorable is the standard for dungeons now and not some bug, I’d say expect to see prices on all goods drop substantially. I have no intention of paying even 2.5s for orichalcum ore if I can’t find another way to earn some decent cash.
The only trouble I have is with CoF since I haven’t done any of the other dungeons since the update. Tried the usual Magg run which they seem to have made impossible. Midget runs into lava, dies, can’t resurrect him since the 4000+ damage the lava hits for is kind of more than the 600 we heal him for. You can’t even really control his path, since he decides to run at the closest enemy which keeps respawning.
Yep, hence why i mentioned in my original post that "bugs are one thing, ‘not fun’ is an entirely different quality’
maraconover.2947I just ran the Lvl 40 dungeon as a level 60..fully geared in yellow vitality toughness gear and was ONE SHOTTED.
this just means you haven’t discovered the evade button yet. use that, guarantees invincibility for an instant.
What happens to the 20 instants after that while your bar is recharging?
He said level 40 dungeon and he’s clearly talking about the golem in CM. It fires rockets with a delay between each rocket more than long enough to not have to worry about the recharge rate on that fight. If he still has the same complaint when he’s 80 and gotten a few exploreables under his belt then he just won’t enjoy this game period.
But thank you for proving my OP point, that the people who are complaining about the dungeons are just people who don’t yet ‘get the game’. Lelouch, if you are having trouble with fights, then i think you also need to keep in mind you can rally off the kill of any mob during a fight.

There is nothing complex about them. They are dumbed down. Everyone fulfills the same role, and you just run around and spam your DPS…trying not to stand on the highlighted circles on the ground and dodging the one shot ability spam.
We don’t even have classes anymore, most of the time people can run through dungeons and not even say a word to each other. It’s understood there is going to be some random dying to one shotting and spam. And all you do is respawn and do it again.
You pugging it? You shouldn’t be ‘counting on dying’ if you want your team to make any money from the run, and classes definitely don’t fulfill the same roles. Interrupts, vulnerability, aoe etc. is all done differently by each class…
There is a reason you can interrupt nearly any boss in the game given players coordinating their cycling.
It’s ridiculous how many posts there are that are suggesting these dungeons are not fun.
They are complex, so complex that people are complaining ingame about how much gold they have to spend on repairs. They’re beatable, and conceivably beatable without dying but a couple slip ups will cost you your life. Exactly what endgame should be.
I see so many posts on the forums about dungeons not being fun. Bugs are one thing, ‘not fun’ is a totally different quality.
No need to reply, just wanted to vocalize the obvious so ArenaNet knows they’re not doing as bad a job as a browsing of countless threads would suggest.
everything is gonna drop in price going today forward, i suggest you sell off your goods now if you dont wanna watch them fall any further.
I completed CoE Exploreable mode for the first time ever doing option 2, fighting subject alpha through to the 3rd encounter. My final reward was 17k xp and 2 silver 60 copper, is this a bug or is that dungeon really worth only that much?
I’ll add that I was doing it with a team obviously, and i’m not sure but some members might have been repeating it, but definitely not within these 30 minute windows. It took us 2 hours to complete.
Good luck playing WvW with less than a gold to your name.
Keep Upgrades and Repair costs are more than enough of a reason to spend gold.
for pve – you probably want different sets of gear depending on what role you want to play. yes there is a limit because eventually you’ll have every class and every piece of gear you’d want for that class, but if you play to that point you’ve ‘beaten the game’
for pvp – if you got so much gold please do transfer to my server and spend it on tower/keep/castle upgrades. that’d be nice
Edited to correct my horrible mispelling of a name in my post
There’s a super long thread on “player trading” that was answered in part by a Janson Smalling. Thank you for your help and it seems a further question was asked that’s yet to have an answer, so I made a post specifically on it.
The thread went further with posts suggesting “cash on delivery” mail. I’ve already encountered many people in game who will not trade via mail because they don’t “trust me”. It is true that a player could build up his reputation to be known as a fair trader, but this is very hard to do on the admittedly large server sizes and only having the opportunity to sell a few globs and other goods at various times of the day based on how much I can conceivably earn in a day. That said, drop rates are fine, this is not a question about that.
Unless the Trading Post is designed to be the only way of trading because of it’s 15% gold sink to maintain economy balance, I don’t think the question about the inability to player trade was fully answered by “one can always Trading Post trade” and “one can report scammers”. Having to report a player is a situation no one wants to end up in, and there are definitely many players that would love to trade outside the trading post.
Will there be a cash on delivery mailing system? if so, fantastic! and if not, what is the reason?
Thanks in advance.

Speculation is a good thing. To control the majority of those markets would take a whole collective of players working together to f* up trade and even then that’s pretty much capitalism at work. The fact that the most used goods are all common drops (even globs of ecto are common considering each player needs only 75 for their first full set of exotics) keeps players from being able to jack the market up. If a whole collective managed to for even a few days to jack up the price on ecto’s, you’d see it return quickly to the amount a player considers an ecto worth for his time. I.e. with current amounts of money that can be made from dungeoning and other forms, would you pay say 1g for a glob of ecto? No, you’d probably assume it’ll go back down to a price everyone else is willing to pay. If it never goes back down, then that’s because players have found out a new way to make money that justifies that price.
Specifically, you use the word “speculation”, to use a personal example, why is it a bad thing that I bought 756 mystic coins when they were a silver and then sold at 1.8s? players on mass drove this price up to 2.8s on friday because of mystic chests and settled at 2s? It was alotta fun recognising mystic coins are probably the most limited resource in this entire game and taking a chance that ArenaNet had plans for these things.
Lastly, are you suggesting they code the whole game to recognise the difference between TP bought items and loot just because you have a hunch people are making money by trading goods that everyone has equal chance to buy, sell and gather for themself?
I used the search tool to try to find a post about gem and gold ratio and found this post.
I am also curious about this, but more specifically why gems are not a 1:1 ratio. Anet might not want to reveal the algorithm in case there is a potential for abuse (I don’t pretend to know how someone could but I assume it’s possible).
It seems like the currency exchange is not a ‘gem sink’ but rather a gold sink as the difference between selling gems versus buying gems seems to be in favour of buying gems (i.e. more gold disappears off the market than is made from the sale). I haven’t sold gems, but if I’m reading average prices right, this seems to be the case. Shouldn’t it be a 1:1 ratio? i.e. if you could buy gems and instantaneously sell them back, shouldn’t you get exactly all your gold back? Otherwise, if i sell a purchased with real money gem, where is the additional gold going that the buyer paid that is not in my hands? This feels like a hidden tax that pulls gold out of the market.
I have no issue with that, but if it’s stated clearly in the UI then it won’t confuse gem sellers.
