Looks like the devs gave us a surprise for this patch, Team Death Match is indeed in!

In the new map the first team to kill the other team will win the round. Respawn is disabled completely. There is something about some wolves and ravens and such too, not sure about that but wow, people asked for tdm and boy, a-net delievered!

Good to see communication, bad news is better than no news.

So the “major” wvw update consists of:

-Progressions system (rank titles that go underneath your name most likely, like the ones that exist for pvp/pve)
-Abilities/bonuses tied to these ranks. (If I wanted new abilities I’d roll an alt.)

And that’s it.

This type of basic reward is not going to help people enjoy wvw more. There are many posts on this forum suggesting what will, though.

How hard is it to make an in-game ladder

I wouldn’t expect a ladder tbh, as they are careful to phrase it like:
" So we are happy to inform you that we have begun testing our ratings and matchmaking system."
Only matchmaking, nothing about an in game ladder. The game may hold the statistics hidden and only use the rating when you enter the matches.

1 round matches are great. Keep them! Keep the low cost but rather tone down the rewards if you have to.

Avoid “winner stays”, as not knowing how long you’ll be playing can be a hindrance to us casuals with other obligations. Short and simple is great.

Add solo ladder, ranking and matchmaking based on the 1 round matches. Rating system as in gw1.

Add guild rating as in gw1, with ladder. Maybe make this for the three round tourney?

Laurels

You don’t get laurels for daily pvp unfortunately. Not sure if this is intended or not. I hope it will change, because it would have drawn more people into the pvp scene.

That would basically make PvP required, which is not good. I wouldn’t mind if you got a laurel from whichever you completed first though, so you have a choice.

given Anet’s stated approach of “small incremental changes” for achieving balance, one would think that those increments would fall a little closer together (say monthly patches?) rather than the quarterly or semi-annual as we seem to be nearing.

Facts is facts though. PvP don’t make no money, so PvP don’t gets no love.

Well, people would actually spend more in the sto’ if there was anything to buy from there, pvp related (aside from tickets). I mean, for a game based on cosmetic grind, we haven’t see one single pvp skin in the store, in the past five months…

And speaking of cosmetic rewards, now pve players can just use the pve skins for pvp anyway.

All weapon and armor skins now have the option to be converted to PvP skins. When activating a skin you will be given the choice to either apply the skin to a PvE item or convert the skin to a PvP-only item. Either action will consume the skin. This change applies to all unused weapon and armor skins in the game, regardless of when the skin was first released.

1. So what will happen to the two team – single round once this week is over? I hope they build on it, as it isn’t the new map that is the best in this change, but the concept of single round.
2. I assume tournaments after this week will still have 3 rounds? Will they alternate what maps are played or ditch one completely?

Locked out of tournament - "Network Error"

This happened to me as well as another teammate.

1st round, all ok.
2nd round, network error when trying to go to the map. When the game was starting I was transported to the map – missing 10-20 of the first seconds of the match.
3rd round, me and another player are unable to get into the map at all, kept getting the network error messages up until it started, then nothing.

Yesterday many in my team could not go to the tourney pvp map when prompted. Could not “go now” from the menu either. I kept getting a network error message (please check your internet connection and try again). Restarting the gw2 client did not help.

Lots of text, but very little content. I’m disappointed they didn’t put more time into pvp before launch.

Also, changes and priority seems to be on things that generate money sinks that generate purchases in game store. If I want to duel someone 1v1 I have to pay gems to make a custom tournament. Really?

Accidentally destroyed PvP Water Filter

Really a shame that this can actually happen, very embarrassing design flaw.

And I can’t believe it’s not possible for a GM to manually give you the item in question, seeing as there doesn’t seem to be any way to get it.

Does anyone know if you can get the water filters as rewards from pvp chests? Or create one in mystic forge? A troublesome workaround, but still, if it works.

Spvp and auto ground target

Thanks for the reply.

So that’s why it’s hard to see where it lands. Does the ability land where the invisible mouse cursor is then? And is the mouse cursor in the same place when I hold it down to turn the camera (which I do quite often)?

I’m trying to be more effective as an ele, and have been using the auto ground target option to try to minimize delay with abilities when playing – especially in spvp. The problem is that sometimes it’s hard to see where my mouse cursor is, and I sometimes end up firing the DT or whatever in a random location.

What do you all think of this feature in spvp, is it a must or do you prefer to manually target the ground target abilities?
