thank you for this post it’s just good to know that something is being done about the problems regarding the ranger.
there is just NO way the people who made this dungeon actually play this dungeon. this is one of those cases, i imagine, that it looks good on paper but that’s actually the farthest thing from the truth.
Lower the health of all dungeon mobs in the game by 50%, raise damage done by 10%.

i’m with this idea… it drives me nuts that once you have figured out the mechanics of the bosses and mobs, you have to rinse/repeat about 120 times to get them down. why?!
oh man that sounds like an awesome build …. if i was doing DEs in metrica province or some other lvl10 areas. bring that build to lvl 80 dungeons, and you might as well bring about 2 gold for gear repair.
the last two posts basically said what i wanted to say. i think i’m just scarred by my experience in CoE where you NEED big numbers and Alpha just AoEs you and your pets to an early grave…. then i think of what kinda run it would be with 3 rangers or more in that squad. oh god!
my ranger is trap based and uses a lot of mobility…. but it’s still horrible in comparison to my warrior that just destroys everything, has better armor, survivability, and buffs to the group…. AND lesser gear than my ranger!
one thing my ranger is awesome for though in WvWvW is that it runs away faster and better than most classes… except mesmers and thiefs.
i want to vote this thread as probably the best and funniest post in the forums.
“i want to play a unique character and that’s why i will play an MMO…. hmmm, a guardian eh? i’m sure noone else’s screen is showing this unique and special profession that is ONLY appearing on MY screen! people will be so jealous when they see me running by with my ‘one of a kind’ greatsword!. oh man this is gonna be so great!!”
… days later
“what’s going on here?! i see other guardians! i … i thought i was the only one in this MMO playing this specific profession. bummer! "
LOL! WHAT are you thinking?!.. and then you come to the forums to complain about it!
classic.
holy smokes! what a god kitten genius you are! no one has thought of that!! pets on passive?! wow!
… hmmmm, only if pets didn’t go off passive once you use their F2 skill. or! only if they didn’t targeted by boss AoEs. OR! if they didn’t get one shotted by basically everything in a dungeon!!
you, however, are the only exception. kudos!
when the developer who plays a ranger admits to the problem, it means there is a problem. most of us wait patiently until it gets resolved. during the mean time, go try out CoE and tell me about that “passive” button .. or the life span of that pet when you return.
honestly, it feels like it’s amateur hour with this company and whoever is in charge of the “ranger” department.
why lord? WHYYY!!?!?!
aren’t our pets and spirits horrible enough? why take away our awesome shortbow?!?!
i also want to suggest not having my pet go into battle after i use his F2 ability even though i have “avoid combat” turned on. in battles where i have to constantly keep watch of my environment, the last thing i want is for my pet to go and do something i strictly commanded not to do. please lets have a second look at this feature which, as far as i can tell, isn’t working correctly.
you’re probably 1 in 1000 that finds this dungeon amusing.
maybe you’re saying, “my friends and i clear it in 10 minutes”. good. i am glad you and your friends work well together…. however, about 97% of the people who play this game probably a) don’t have 4 other friends that play this game and b) don’t have the time to invest to figure out the mechanics of this boss. i am in a guild of over 100… no one likes running dungeons because they are not “casual” friendly. least of all is CoE.
i honestly can’t imagine anyone, after working a full day’s job, coming home and being happy that they are going to go into CoE…. and about 80% of the other dungeons.
maybe after this guide will people be more willing to give this place a second chance. as for me, i ran it enough to get me that nice chest piece…. i can certainly assure you that i will never step into that dungeon again. if that is what you call a successfully designed dungeon, then i am very worried for the future of this game.

man, when i saw a ranger run by me with his spirits all up and moving with him i was like “daaaaamn! that’s so cool! i’m rolling a ranger”
80 levels later, i finally specced to have my spirits follow me….. only to have them one shotted in dungeons and give almost no boons to anyone due to their horrible proc rate and radius.
needless to say i respecced right away =/
i’ve posted something about this and suggested having them immune to AoE damage and have them live until they are killed.
i know i am gonna get hated on for this comparison, but to me, they should be like shaman totems in WoW.
i love the running animation and i hope they never touch it
this guys has a really good post in regards to this topic:

i’m glad to see that i am not the only one that wish to see some improvements made to pets/spirits
hey gang,
i wanna start off by saying that i love my ranger and after playing all professions i can honestly say that it is my favorite. however, i do have some issues in regards to my pets and spirits.
doubtless, the animators added extra walk animation to my pets to give them more character and life but when i stop because there is a mob of 5 just ahead and my pet decides to keep walking and pulls everything, then it’s just annoying. yeah, its cute that my pet takes a few more steps and pecks the ground for bugs… but he just pulled a crap load of enemies and i had no power over that. i cannot control where my pet goes. there is no floor target that i can use on my pet to tell them where to step… so why should they be able to pull enemies if i have no power over where they go?! the same situation goes with my summoned spirits.
my second issue is with the life span of my spirits. if they only last one minute and there is no cool down to re-summon them right after, why not just let them live until they get killed? are they so overpowered that they should not be out that long? absolutely not! they die with one or two hits even when i put my trait point to make them last longer AND their buffs are not even guaranteed!. i am just wondering why i have to keep re-summoning them when there is no reason to do that since there is no offset in their cool down. yes, if they get killed i understand that i should not be able to re summon them right away.
lastly, i think that pets/spirits should NOT be taking damage from environment and enemy AoEs. when i see a red circle underneath my character, i quickly dodge and avoid damage… my pet/spirits don’t! why not?! if they do not avoid damage like i can, why should they be getting nailed hard by enemy AoEs? this is extremely annoying during boss fights where a boss does an AoE which i avoid but it one shots my pet because i could not control my pets avoidance or where he stood after i rolled out of the way. also, when i am skipping through stones to get across a river of lava and my pet just runs right through it, then he should not be taking damage for something i cannot control! oh, maybe i should put him away before i do that… but if i am in combat, i cannot put him away! so again, why is he taking damage for something that i am powerless to control?
pets should not be invincible but they should also NOT be getting hurt from sources that are beyond the player’s power to control. my solution to this issue is to make pets/spirit immune to AoEs and make them evade when i evade. Also, make the spirits last until they are killed. there is no reason for their one minute life span if all you have to do is re-summon them right away…. and their summon animation is long and annoying as well but that’s just a personal opinion.
