I tried again earlier today and within 15 minutes I crashed; however, this time this message came up…
“PC ran into a problem and needs to restart….if contact a support person then give them this info: DPC Watchdog Violation”
I figuring I’ll need to contact a support person, but I thought I’d share for those with similar issues, and have not seen this message. I didn’t see it until today.
I was playing the game with no problems prior to the windows update and radeon driver update. I am not able to play more than 10 or 15 minutes at a time before the computer freezes since those updates. Therefore, I cannot say if I’m having trouble with the guildwars release from this Tuesday (6 June).
I do not have a DPS meter or other programs hooking into the game. I understand there are some out there, and have an idea what they may do, but I am not as interested in those.
A week ago, the new windows 10 (creator update I think) was installed on my computer and on the same day my Radeon RX480 graphics card updated. I have been playing the game with no problems on this machine prior to this update (minus the rare disconnect). However ever since the updates, I my computer freezes and locks up completely within 10 minutes of logging into the game.
I uninstalled the windows 10 update and tried playing with the same result.
I uninstalled the Radeon driver update and tried playing with the same result.
I’ve played without windows 10 update and with the Radeon driver update with the same result.
I’ve also played with windows 10 update and without the Radeon driver update with the same result.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? Ideas of things to try?
thanks
I’ve seen what looks like credit given (achievement points awarded for beta weekend) while playing the beta with beta characters. If I log in with non-beta ele and look there is no credit awarded when looking at the progression. I’m not really surprised since it was with a beta-character, but I also cannot find a way to get non-betas to the new map. Either I have been dealing with a bug, or it may be as you suspect and are for relabeling achievements and credit later. Not sure.
I have decided to play a bit more. I’m giving it until about lvl 20 to really decide whether it’s the game for me. I just can’t see GW2 getting so many incredible reviews my respected reviewers and it being a crappy game, like Angry Joe for example (he is brutally scrutanizing in his reviews).
From the suggestions, I think I’ve decided to go ahead and try Elementalist and Mesmer next, just to get a feel.
What I REALLY need is some kind of expanded tutorial that goes into detail about what character stats, item stats and all that jazz really mean. I still have no idea what “dazed” means (I’m assuming it’s an interrupt), and things of that nature. I’m a DoTA2, Dragon Age, Baldurs Gate, etc. old-school RPG player, so maximizing builds and digging deep into complex games is fun to me.

I agree with others that you should give it more of a chance and play a little more. If you are not ‘feeling’ the rogue, the elementalist and mesmer are definitely fun. The mesmer has some stealth capabilities like the thief and the shattering of images is fun. I would continue until you get a character to at least level 30 (first trait or elite, cannot remember which).
The tutorial aspects of the game are a bit lacking, and my sister-in-law has expressed similar frustrations. The wiki does a really good job of helping to clarify some of the professions in more detail and there are a couple profession builders online to help look at what stats and traits are available further down the line for various professions. A quick search for GW2 builder provides some sites. I don’t know which do the best job illustrating pros and cons because I just mess around with the character until something fits my play style. Luckily, leveling is fairly quick with events and heart quests completed. I also use food to get the xp bonus (10% is better than nothing), and sharpening stones (other consumable) also have an xp bonus.
I was wondering if it was just my experience or have others found the world events located in the starter maps to be extremely fast and non-challenging. I just finished participating in the shadow beast (Queensland) and the shaman event (Wayfarer) in less than 5 minutes each. Granted with higher level characters, it didn’t seem overly challenging in beginning maps every time prior to the patch, but I at least got to cycle through all my skills once. I thought I would give things a chance and see how they are, but the scale down (all eight of my characters are 80) either isn’t enough or they lowered the difficulty too much in these areas. Other foes on the starter maps are equally not challenging.
Although there were many people there, it did not appear to be any more than pre-feature patch. Previously, I could team up with a friend that bought the game a month ago and not one shot everything before he sees it. Now I am not so sure….
thoughts? thanks
The temples have exotic armor available with superior runes. Different temples have different superior runes with the armor (runes to match play style), but the exotic armor looks the same.
Living Story Season 2 is for level 80 characters so that is something else to do (new map).
Fractals are nice.
Depending on how new to the game you are, you may need to do various things to unlock various Trait choices such as map completion, etc… That could occupy time versus spending your hard earned coins to get the trait options.
The Lfg tool is useful, but requires patience to find a group willing to take on those of us that are not as experienced. I’ve been lucky enough to join up with some great people using the tool and they were very helpful/patient.
Since the revamp, I’ve been present for exactly 0 successful Teq runs, out of literally hundreds. Hell, since the mega-server deal, the actual damage he has taken from us has gone down. When it was server specific, we’d regularly see him get as low as 75% health. Since the mega-servers kicked in, the absolute best I’ve seen is 90% of max.
Definitely needs a tone-down. Not back to where it was but better than where it is. Since the revamp, I have never seen him go down/be defeated once. I’ve tried multiple times and now, it is a ghost town.
Sorry, but I have a really hard time believing either of you.
There are two ways I do Teq. On Sundays I lead the Fort Aspenwood guilds to victory. Throughout the week I’ll often tag along on random maps, or get ferried into a good map by one of the other Teq commanders that I know.
The key to both of these methods is show up 45+ mins early. If you get there early enough and play Megaserver map roulette a couple times, I guarantee you that you’ll find a map with enough organization to at least get him through a few burn phases, if not an outright victory.
But if you treat him like the other bosses and show up 5-10 mins before the event, you will be put into an empty map that fails, guaranteed, because everyone that was serious about the fight grabbed a map and hardcapped it half an hour ago.
Leave Teq alone. There are twenty other afk-zerg bosses for casual play. Even Karka Queen has turned into a 111111 yawn-fest. Let us have our challenge bosses.
Sorry to see you have hard time believing others’ experiences. What I find annoying is those preferring to believe that it may be the result of zerging (definitely prefer not as find it incredibly boring) or spamming 1 only. Definitely not the case as that is what the other nine skills are for and are frequently much more interesting (elites could be better but…). AFK, although others may be and leads to failures, I don’t understand that mentality (game running and you are not playing….).
Recently I was on the map helping friends with heart quests, viewpts etc (been on the map awhile) and we came across the Teq event. Three people (besides us). We tried a couple times because they waned to, and big surprise….no success.
Definitely needs a tone-down. Not back to where it was but better than where it is. Since the revamp, I have never seen him go down/be defeated once. I’ve tried multiple times and now, it is a ghost town.
AP? Oh, yeah, achievement points…who cares. As zenleto said, high AP doesn’t mean they are good players. Mainly, played tons of time seeing or doing different things. That number doesn’t really do much to illustrate how well a person plays the game. Play with someone else if they are being ‘elitist’. There are many players out there that pay little to any attention to AP numbers. Just have fun and if the stress level gets too great, take a break. Its just a game for fun times. I have fewer than 6.5k and have been playing since beta. When I get AP, then great —it brings me closer to extra gold (from the AP chests), but otherwise I don’t care.
Don’t know if this will help, but here it goes….
Have you done any crafting? It is a way to make some additional coin or unlock some other skins for your character.
Do you have all maps completed? Each map completely explored, provides nice bonuses (item, xp, etc…).
Dungeon runs, fractals, general exploring, guild events and helping others are things I do. There is also Pvp, spvp and wvw (not my thing, although tried it). Do you have alternate characters?
I have 8 level 80 characters and none have all the dungeons, maps, personal stories finished. I often just help my wife get around the maps and adventure with her. Living story 2 will probably start ‘soon’. Also, there are 5 new grandmaster traits for each profession you can travel the world to unlock (most are during big events).
by the way, welcome back =) and enjoy…
Do none of the sites that track world events work anymore?
The last time I looked at guildwarstemple it tracked mega events fine (post patch)
My wife and I play this from time to time to relax after a tough day. Prior to patch, she started a new mesmer and was having fun with the character. She made it to level 19 with that character before the patch. After the patch, she was frustrated and aggravated. She says she did not have as much fun and could tell a definite difference that she was missing the few trait points she had at that point. Unfortunately, now she isn’t sure how much she wants to play since most of her characters are less than level 80 (others level 50 – 65).
Click <H>. The second tab on the left is for weapon skills, skill slots, and traits. Listed skills have the cost along the bottom.
You need to buy a book from a trait trainer. In beginning areas, there will be NPCs standing near each other (maybe near merchants or trading post representative) and one of them will have an icon of a book over their head. Talk to that person, pay him/her I think 10 silver. Look in the inventory and double click on the book you just bought. This unlocks your ability to allocate trait points. Return to the tab for traits in the hero screen (<h>) and put your point where you want. 15 April some aspects of trait allocation is going to change (see patch/blog post announcements).
Hope that helps.
I’d go to The Grove and take the portal to the Vigil Keep and try another racial level 1-15 area. Of course you’d still have to find your way out of the other race’s home city, but that is experience too (Points of interest, waypoints, etc…). If these other 1-15 zones are the ones you get lost in, that is okay because the game gives you experience for exploring (even the racial cities, see above). More dynamic events or work on personal story until becomes too difficult. Work on map completion of Caledon Forest (sylvari zone). Ask others you see in game for help. Most players are really friendly and willing to help out.
Sounds like a song, LOL. I fit this category, but still hammer away at areas. If I do a dungeon (rarely) with the guild I am in, I always feel like I’m holding everyone back or making it more of a chore. Luckily, they are a good group of people and tolerate my joining up on occasion and help out where they can. It doesn’t seem to matter as to which profession it is either. I think my reaction time is a tad slow or something because I often am just a little late in dodging =). I definitely would not categorize dungeons or fractals as easy.
-I’d agree with others saying there is a bit of negativity on the forums. Take it with “a grain of salt” as some people just like to complain—even when it is good =).
-Heart quest indicators on maps help indicate what are good levels for areas for better chances of survival as first learning the game. I often go where the heart quest levels are about 2 higher than the current character I’m playing when possible (like well designed challenges).
-Dynamic events are a way to quickly get into some action and frequently you will see others participating in the events as well. I have found most people are willing to run around areas and have small chats while doing so with new players. Most seem to be friendly.
-Personal story lines are okay and have a level associated with them, so you may not be able to play much of your storyline very far along before you encounter difficulties (i.e., lots of dying). You can invite others to help in your storyline.
-Downed condition is new mechanic
-Moving while fighting is more important with dodging being a big part of that
—————-
things not as nice
-few skills associated with particular weapons; fewer skills overall
-no tutorial; or at least nothing great to help newer players
-needing payment for traveling from one waypoint (rez pt) to another
-increased character level increases cost to travel between waypoints (e.g., may cost 16 cp to travel between 2 pts at level 10, but 64 cp at level 35 to travel those same pts).
-armor repairs (not bad really; better gear costs more to fix; no surprise really)
most of the elites feel underpowered or not very useful for little benefit and a 90s or more cool-down. Elites are very underwhelming.
Also agree dungeons are more difficult than their level indicates. I have been in a number of level 40 areas with a level 80 character and am able to take on a number of creatures at once. However, in Ascalon Catacombs, the ghosts, gravelings, whatever all seem to have severely enhanced health or armor as it takes forever for my character to take out just one. I agree the critters in the dungeons should be tougher, but feel it is a bit overboard.
I agree that the design is difficult under the best of circumstances and incredibly frustrating. I even considered stop playing; however, after the 20-something-ish time of trying to make it over (random luck never on my side) I fell and died without a chance to revive. I was quite po’d. Just before I went to log off I heard the NPC (cannot remember name) say something like “well we can’t have you dying on first mission” or something like that… I looked around and the game had brought me to the other side of the jumping puzzle.

So trying to make donations for the lost shores event and purchased the donation packaging. Then clicked on the mystic forge (Zomorros) and every time I add the packaging to one of the squares it says reset. I tried adding armor, weapons, trinkets or food before the packing and vice a versa and it always says reset. How do I get it to make the donation?—-thanks
That’s awesome thanks!
Okay, thanks that is what I thought from the crumpled mess laying in the center of a circle, but have searched that area over and over and still have not found the npc… thanks again
May not need tech help, but cannot find Lionguard Tyrro…even after someone said she is near where the fountain was? Well I had been to LA twice and dont remember a fountain, so I have no idea where that was. Any ideas, thanks!
