Heya all, while i’m gearing up my ranger, i decided to pick a second class to solo roam in WvW, and im indecided between Necro and Warrior.
Can someone that have experience about solo roam can help me with some tips to compare the strenght and weakness of the 2 class?
Necro sounds fun, but while warrior can run condi and power builds to roam, i don’t know if a necro can have some builds variety in roaming, if someone can enlight me.
The other question i have about necro is about their mobility, being spotted by a zerg means you always die?

Rangers are in a weird place where we don’t technically have much power damage pressure, so a lot of rangers “create” their own by running glassy. The equalizer is once you get use to using all your tools you’re really quite hard to get ahold of, so you can afford to be glassy.

Beware of condi classes though, fight necros from max range and don’t try to melee them.

Can you suggest me some number to get him a lil tankier but with some damage?

Here is the glassy build I currently run. I left the last slot in Marksmanship blank because you could use either spotter, piercing arrows, or the new trait that will make your arrows fly faster. I also swap the dagger for a warhorn (or axe rarely) and the signet based on what I need at the time.

A few notes, 1) there is a steep learning curve 2) I highly recommend getting the guard buffs so you have a bit more margin of error 3) it uses the PvE stat allocations due to simplicity, but soon when you can change at will I might want to put 5 points in WS or make other minor changes 4) you have to make extensive use of your utilities (including weapon utilities) and pets, which makes it fun to play and 5) I don’t “duel” people, my whole goal is to support the zergs by solo roaming or with 1 or a couple temporary PUG companions and be able to effectively defend myself / kill trouble makers.

Edit: I’ve also said before, if you’re going to play glassy ranger in WvW, play a lot of S/D in PvP because you are going to need to not get hit when the 9 foot norn warrior comes flying at you.

Well another advice i can give you is try out a build is pvp (soloq or teamq, hotjoin was a zergfest last time i was in there) and see how it works, then adapt it to wvw.

Thanks, im a bit scared to waste time and money if the builds don’t work, i don’t have so much gold xD, and with the upcoming nerf to critical i’m scared to run with longbow. Tempted anyway because is my favourite weapon of the ranger.

Well this is my power build. I personaly don’t like the longbow so i switched it to sword/dagger. It’s mostly a melee build (can swap gs with sb if needed). Lots of evades from sword+dagger and gs auto. So far it worked pretty well for me.

It’s quite an easy build, but down traps on opponents to disrupt and damage. Keep stacking bleeds with your short bow. Use Sharpening Stone at the correct moment to apply even more pressure. But as with most ranger builds you will have to rely on your dodges and Lightning Reflexes for defense.

Now for power roaming at the moment there is only one option that is really viable. It’s Longbow/Greatsword spec. High damage. I never run it before myself so I wouldn’t know the build exactly. I think you can find it if you google it.

I’m currently testing a Longbow Axe/Axe build but I’m not satisfied yet :p

Heya all, i’m returning to the game, and i want to invest some time in my ranger.
I want to do some solo roaming in WvW, and i need some advice to make a build.
I always try to make some builds, but i don’t know what exactly are the “cap” i have to reach in each stats with my gear to make a build work (some explanation are appreciated).
The 2 builds that i’m thinking about are condi with shortbow (not heavy trap or spirit reliant), and a power build with longbow, are this 2 kind of build doable for roaming?
And for pet selection wich you are going to suggest me?

Yeah, I could use more power for the dagger but I find crit damage balances nicely with precision.

I have tried a lot of builds and I just like the way this one works, more CCs and the fear tick is stupidly strong when you stack your con damage. people don’t expect a necro to be able to lash out a total of 12khp in fear alone. I haven’t dumped the 2k hours in the game I could have but I enjoy the hours I do put in. I don’t ever feel like my class is kitten and if I get bored I always have a new build to try.

So you have no problem to solo roam in rabid? how is facing more than one enemy in that way?

Going full rabid for roam is strong? you wont suffer the lack of power?

Nice suggestions, wich defense you think have to be the highest? vitality or thoughness for roam?

Hey guys, as the title of topic, i want some suggestion with the gear/spec for solo roam in wvw. I know that for roam necro is not the best class, so avoid statement about that, thanks all in advance.

I use a balanced build and go for Knights/Zerk/Valk myself…

Simply 2 set, 1 for fractal and 1 for wvw roamer (meaning all armor and jewel).
For roaming i heard people that says to get valkyrie armor and the rest berserker, and for pve and fractal to get all berserker; is this true?

Umie? I think you have the wrong person, I had only used him as a model for his video. :P
But in simplistic terms, apothecary is very much more useful in zerg confrontations while clerics is for more of a solo gank situation.

And right, I run healing spring for the 6.5k burst heal and 5.5k over-time regeneration. On top of that it’s a water field which can be used in conjunction with your 3 leap finishers.

Sorry m8 nice guide anyway, i think i’ll go for cleric power since the gear is more cheap. So troll unguent is not viable with this build?

for fresh level 80 getting there first exotic set and assumeing power based dont think you can really beat this it gives enough defence/offence to allow without gimping you anywhere imo.

power/toughness/vitality armor and berserker rings/acsessorys/amulate with 4xrunes of grove and 2xrunes of altruism (useing heal as one and pet gets your boons(trait) its instant 6x might for pet every 20’s for 10’s and 3xmight for you and anyone else in range) add this to warhorn and well i think you can guess

So is not a good idea to go full berserker?

I use knights armour and berserker trinkets. Lets you hit mostly like a GC but with more toughness than people expect from you, and as long as you have enough condition removal and use evades well you’ll have no trouble surviving and dealing a ton of damage. Can either go with defensive or offensive runes depending on your preference.

This is for WvW SB/GS.

Hey all, my ranger is on the way to 80, and i want to ask you some suggestion about gear, i know it depends on builds, but can you suggest me how much defense/offense stats cap i have to achieve to be good in PvE and in WvW roaming? (how much condi dmg or power, or vitality and thoughness..ecc) some suggestions to understand alone this can lead me to do various equip adjustment for the builds i want to create.
