The Elite Skill: Battle Standard should have Skill 2 changed to cast while moving instead of rooting you and the Stability duration increased from 3 seconds to 5 seconds without increasing the Stability stacks.

The reasoning behind this is so the 2nd skill is aligned with other banner skills in being able to cast while moving while the duration increase allows you/allies to secure a stomp without overlapping with Guardian’s group stability shout which provides more stability stacks but no offensive boons.

There’s also many other changes that others are suggesting such as cooldown reduction or overall skill revamps that may require more extensive balancing. However, these two suggested changes are mainly quality-of-life changes that’s aimed at making Skill 2 more smooth and functional so extensive balancing isn’t required.

Hammer / Staff guard

for a hammer/staff guardian i would suggest your run a 0/0/6/6/2 build and pick up altruistic healing in valor line and master of consecrations in virtues line. then take out save yourselves and replace with purging flames. you can also switch out 2 handed mastery for empowering might if you have a good crit rate for a little more sustain. however do note that this build is only good for groups of at least 10+ since you want to make sure you have allies around you to fully maximize altruistic healing.

for anything under 10 man you can use the 2/1/6/1/4 meditation build that you posted on your other post.

if this is for WvW then use greatsword for roaming and hammer for zerging

if PvE then greatsword/sword focus for more or less everything and hammer for fractals

if this is for WvW then a greatsword would probably be better than a hammer for your build due to damage and mobility advantages

also equip a focus for your offhand. also change vengeful to unscathed contender for more burst potential. it seems like a bad trait but you can actually time your virtue of courage active for an aegis when you’re about to do a burst to get the damage modifier

it’s probably better as a Zeal Grandmaster instead because Valor has very good Grandmasters that emphasizes more on survival than CC. Zeal should be the tree line that has all the CC such as cripple on symbol or Chill on Burn

Switching Minor and Major Grandmaster Traits

Interesting idea. I agree that some of the major traits for guardians look like they could be minor traits instead. However, it seems all of the grandmaster minor traits are focused on increasing damage through damage modifiers (zeal, radiance, honor, virtues) or through boons (valor) so i think Purity of Body might work better as a minor master trait in Zeal or have its effect reworked to something like 5% more damage for each virtue that’s not used. Power of the Virtuous should still be buffed to maybe 3% though.

Symbols and Zeal

part of the problem with the Zeal line is that the minor traits are too focused on symbols instead of universal effects that can be used for any builds. not all guardian weapons have symbols and even then the traits should be major traits because minor traits should provide you with a benefit that can always apply to your character regardless of build/weapons/skills since you don’t have a choice in picking it unlike major traits.

So in order for Zeal to be more attractive, all of the symbol traits should be moved up to major traits the minor traits reworked to maybe provide effects for burning like blind on burn, heal on burn, might on burn, cripple on burn, etc.

The Honor Symbol traits are actually fine as it is because they provide defensive effects that fits into the supportive nature of the Honor line while the Zeal ones provide the offensive effects.

Spirit weapons do need to be reworked to provide active effects instead of just an AI pet that promotes cheesy passive builds that aren’t very healthy for a game like GW2 that focuses on active dynamic combat. Unfortunately Spirit Weapons can’t even provide a decent cheesy build like the other pet classes due to a duration limit and how squishy Spirit Weapons are. The best way to maybe fix this is to change Spirit Weapons to work similar to the Physical utilities of the Warrior or Arcane utilities of the Elementalist.
So the effects should be:
Spirit Hammer-knockdown targeted enemy
Spirit Sword- aoe targeted area and also blast finisher
Spirit Shield- blocks five incoming attacks
Spirit Bow- aoe heal and cleanse targeted area (only if arrows hit like the current bow)

All of the Spirit Weapons traits can be removed with the exception to Spirit Weapon Master to provide cooldown reduction. This way Spirit Weapons can provide a versatile set of utilities that can fit into any builds and fill a role that certain builds might lack.

Zealous Blade healing too negligible?

The trait shouldn’t even have to be based on healing power to be effective and should just be given a flat 100 healing plus whatever percentage of healing power or be given a 50 healing plus plus a certain percentage of power instead considering its placement in a power tree.

Regardless of which option, the healing should be at least 100/hit to be useful considering how the greatsword is only often used to unload it’s burst and then switched to another weapon.

For guardians, no deal for sure. We already have a trait that increases burning damage by 33% and even then its usefulness is debatable. Give us some soft-CC, mobility, better burn effects such as blind on burn or heal on burn, reworked zeal line, better virtues passive and then maybe we have a deal.

Even then, group stability is too good to give up in WVW.

because let’s be honest, guardians won’t have a true condi build unless they have more condi so may as well have their only condi be used to supplement their only source of damage (physical damage) through traits such as fiery wrath and radiant power and maybe add some other things such as blind on burns as a form of balance to allow dps guards to be more viable

maybe burn on crit for radiance gm and blind on burn for zeal gm so you have a little more sustain from the blinds and get better damage from the multipliers in both zeal and radiance. it would still be balanced because you would be pretty glassy from investing 30 into both zeal and radiance

lol those fake patch notes showed more competence than this “balance” patch.

those fake patch notes actually tackled some of the main issues with guardians such as the lack of soft cc which helps a lot in letting guardians stick to their target as well as making spirit weapons viable again for an alternate 1v1 experience

We are a new guild that focuses mainly on WVW, but PVE is also welcome if needed. Nothing too hardcore, we are a casual guild that just wants to have a great time.
