Cultural Armor - Overpriced?

I think the intend is to buy the Cultural Armor and use transmute stones so that it has stats that actually matter for your character’s trait build.

And spend more real money to apply it to your level 80 gear because your normal transmutation stones only work up to 79.

Great idea!

clearly you don’t realize you can trade ingame gold for gems… it costs 70 silver for 10 stones, that’s hardly a lot

This is true, however, the intent is to get you to actually spend money on those gems. Anet could have simply given us a Wardrobe tab like many other games (such as Rift) have done, but instead they decided to double dip, get you to spend money on Vanity armor, then have to spend money again any time you upgrade a piece of armor

So why did it lower the chance of me even getting these items??

Im sure for that 1 hour period getting items that where shoddy and as soon as it stopped I was getting good items.

There’s another thread that mentions that this game has a built in feature (if you really want to call it that) that causes the drop rate of mobs to go down if you continue to farm the same area for long periods of time. Perhaps this is what happened to you. I’ll try and dig up the other thread.

EDIT:: Found it, here it is https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/The-Longer-I-Farm-the-Worse-My-Drops-Get/first#post33194

I imagine it works something like this:

Say you have a base % chance to find a magical item. For the purpose of using round numbers we’ll use 10%.

If you have items that increase your chance to find magical items by 50%, it doesn’t actually increase your total chance to find magical items to 60% (10% base chance + 50% from items). Instead, the 50% increase would raise your total chance to find magical items to 15% (10% base + 10*0.50).

If we look at your example where you said you had a total of 143% increased chance, this would still only increase your total chance to find a magical item to 24.3% still assuming a 10% base. In reality, the base chance is probably a lot lower

Gender role?

As a roleplayer I have a bunch of different characters of both sexes. From the amount of time I’ve been playing MMOs (Or really any game that lets you choose your gender), I can say with confidence that this is something that is very common.

I fully understand what you mean with regard to the aesthetics of the character you are playing. I myself also play a female Norn. To use another game as an example, I almost always play through the Mass Effect games as Femshep, because I think she fits the story better than a male Shepard does.

There are of course the trolls who will get on your case about this, but you should treat them like you would any other troll. /ignore

Using Armor Sets

This is why I think GW2 should have done what Rift did and just given us a wardrobe tab in our character screen where we can set whatever armor pieces we want as our appearance. I really hate the idea behind the transmutation stones. It seems like just a cheap cash grab to me.

Well, think about it this way. Rift is subscription based, and you’re getting to play an entire game for free with guild wars 2, so supporting the devs by buying a few pieces of clothing really isn’t that big of a deal in the bigger picture. You’d still be paying less in the long run than by playing a subscription based game.

I don’t mind buying vanity pieces of clothing, and it’s something I’ve done in many FTP games I’ve played. That’s something I absolutely don’t have any qualms about. The problem I have is with the Transmutation stones. GW2 is so far the first game that I’ve played where the Devs “double dip” on allowing me to use vanity armor. I shouldn’t have to go spend money (I know you can exchange gold for gems, but getting you to spend real money is the intent) any time I get an armor upgrade just so I can keep using the same vanity pieces that I already payed for.

Is there a way to separate chat windows

in Players Helping Players

So, in most of the MMOs I play I try and set up my UI in the same way. One of the things I tend to do is leave my normal chat window where it is, put a combat log on the opposite side of the screen, and create a separate window for gchat/tells that I place above the default window. So far I haven’t been able to figure out how to separate them, is there even a way? Usually just dragging a tab away from the main window separates it and creates a new one, but that doesn’t seem to work here

Is there transmog for gear?

in Players Helping Players

I really wish they’d followed the Rift (and before I get mobbed I know other MMOs have done this as well) model and just given us a wardrobe tab instead of having to deal with the overly complicated transmog system
