Guild Wars had mounts FIRST

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: jia li ng.8415

jia li ng.8415

Let’s see, in real life you don’t mount your car, you get inside to drive, but you can mount astride a motorcycle.

Although, I do remember a scene where “Mr. Bean” did mount his car, it’s not normal.

Infantry could mount a tank and go for a ride, but they wouldn’t be able to drive or operate weapon systems.

So, saying Guild Wars had mounts for players is actually incorrect.

The introduction of mounts to GW2 is commercially understandable, what a great way to bring new players into our community.

I’ve been attempting to craft “Mawdrey” …
I have gotten as far as the mysterious sprout, I was wondering if anyone knew where to take my “Pile of Phantasmal Residue” to infuse it into “Weirded Phantasmal Residue” …

According to Wiki, you simply go to the “Ascalonian Aqueduct” and you can infuse it, well, that might have been the case before the release of “Heart of Thorns” …
before “Skill Points” became “Hero Points” … and even when you click on your Pile of Phantasmal Residue it shows you to go to the Ascalonian Aqueduct …

Did something change in the mechanics with the name change or is the Wiki in need of an update as to where you go to infuse the residue …

After sixteen failed attempts using my level 80 characters, I wonder if I should try one of my level 20 characters and try again, or just go to every Skill Point ( I meant Hero point) exploring the entire world of Tyria for where I might infuse my residue …

or maybe crafting Mawdrey was only something that select few could achieve.

Suggestion: alternative key for the glider [Merged]

Is asking for a toggle in the Options: Combat / Movement to difficult to understand? …
Well it could be, if after you successfully completed an open JP and you forget to reset or re-toggle your option heading into the Jungle .. heh .. watching your character bite the dust in a leap and a bound .. but it would be a subtle reminder ..

Even place a check box on the Hero: Equipment / Glider box to be able to give some control as to whether you wish to glide or not should be to difficult .. albeit you would have to be aware that its off, though at least you would have that option.
Going into Shark Maw the Developer’s saw fit to disable your glider deployment, which is actually kind of nice .. use your skills you have always used to get passed Chompy’s vicious maw .. but, then if there why not other Jumping Puzzles or ALL Jumping Puzzles .. the Collapsed Conservatory or the aforementioned Troll’s Revenge ..

Admittedly, the considerable amount of patience and perseverance it takes to get trinkets and salvage, in honesty doesn’t seem to be a worthwhile endeavor .. feeling rage quit boiling ..

First you have to be a little more than masochistic (meaning: enjoying an activity that appears to be painful or tedious) to attempt a Jumping Puzzle or Vista with the thought of your Glider Deploying looming in your consciousness … will it deploy? won’t it deploy?

Having an Option “IS” allowing player’s to play it the way they want …

Is there a toggle to turn off the glide feature? … I absolutely love gliding in Tyria, but seriously attempting to do a Jumping Puzzle with the glider deployment feature is far more exasperating (meaning: intensely irritating, infuriating) than it was before the gliders … attempting to do a half jump when all of the sudden your glider deploys and you find yourself floating way passed your intended landing zone into the wild blue yonder, kittens me …

Just allow a toggle tab on the combat movement option where someone could check the glider on/off … or a toggle tab on the glider skins box in hero equipment where we can decide to turn it on/off there.

Does the game really to be play it our way or else?
Didn’t it used to be “Play the Game Your Way” … What ever happened to that ideal?

whatever happened to the storyline that was completely playable before whoever decided to remove chapter 8 Making Choices .. and then deciding to re-insert the content back in the game has caused a ripple effect .. my friend just completed Temple of Forgotten God and .. whoosh .. ten chapters forward to Cleansing Orr .. wow .. I guess if you really wanted to mess the storyline line up and make it repeatable that’s one way to kill the progression .. unbelievable ..

My bet .. if my friend does Cleansing Orr that it will wipe progress and send them back for a do-over starting with Temple of The Forgotten God ..

my friend is unwilling to do it though because of the loss of progress in their Personal Storyline ..

I figured that I would do a bit of my storyline on one of eighteen level 80 characters, skill up and gain some mastery points toward the unobtainable goal of yet another tier of character completion ( .. just when you think you’re done, oh, wait there’s more) .. so anyway .. I just complete “The Source of Orr” with my Thief (never taking a downstate, I know weird, huh) and then the storyline loops back ten chapters to “Temple of The Forgotten God” ..frosty kitten’s seriously? ..if it’s a glitch, eh, ok.. I need the mastery points anyway, and I really don’t mind doing the same thing over and over again .. dur .. I have eighteen level 80 characters .. it gets a bit monotonous .. and I really don’t mind ..

So has this ever happened to anyone else?, being snapped back ten chapters (and yes, I really did count how many chapters I get to go back ..yippee!) ..

I know it could be worse, we could lose the personal storyline content altogether .. let’s not jinx it.

Of course I realize people cry about change because they feel they are cheated out of something … Egads! I tried key farming and found it to be a losing proposition. I had a stack of chests and did the math and considered it far more cost effective to roll a key runner than to drain my bank account … While I could get a key every twenty minutes during my run I usually got two or three more chests … I was actually going backward, so after I accumulated another half stack of chests I abandoned the idea of key farming …

…and to address those people who claim they only have seen very few key drops since the beginning all I can say is kittens to be you … I have got at least one key a month (mind you, I get about five chests a week) and often for doing minor things, like killing a river skale … It’s always unexpected but always welcomed …

[Suggestions] Gemstore Items

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: jia li ng.8415

jia li ng.8415

There are to many things that are gone from the game ..

I remember when town clothes were introduced for instance,

You could buy the two or three different sets from the Gem Store ..

the coolest thing was you could dye them and mix and match them ..

this or that pair of boots, with this or that pair of pants, shorts or skirt, and this or that shirt or blouse, topped off with any type of head gear you wanted, be it a top hat, glasses or shades .. all dyed individually in colors you had unlocked

then the day came for whatever the reasoning was that we had to turn in our purchased town clothing and it would somehow make everything better ..

it took your freedom to mix and match away ..so we’re left the way the powers that be want it to be ..no more dying those town clothes either, oh no, you take it the way they want it look …

The reasoning for the change was feeble

just as switching the daily five activities where YOU got to

“PLAY THE GAME YOUR WAY”

to the daily “why bother” some days, just log in
see what’s on the menu and bail ..or play it their way

Sometimes new and improved really isn’t either …

it is restrictive and limited

Having never experienced terrible lag or fps rates drop and never having my system crash I wonder if that problem is a personal issue rather than something to do with Anet or its servers .. I love to run my graphics at a high setting just because the splash effects are so awesomely rendered, it enhances my visual experience … that being said, I would truly dislike the notion of someone at Anet selling skins of weapons on the Black Market at outrageous prices, actually the thought of that happening never occurred to me … and yes, I know that it’s called the Black Lion Trading Company, however it would be more appropriate to call it what it is, the Black Market, an underground network selling goods that others would likely get free as drops if only they were patient, which in this instant gratification society we live in allows the Black Market to exist, no one has time or patience.

Furthermore, it is my understanding that some items may yet return in a cyclical or seasonal fashion, some items might never return as content, in which case I will probably just craft a reasonable facsimile of what I was hoping to have and call it good.

But Aetherblade Steampowered weapons animations are awesome to behold, and like I have said before, “We can dream can’t we?”

…oh and about the Cat Ears and Tail idea, I would love to see a Sylvari pretending to be a Charr …that would make me laugh … just as much as seeing a Charr dressed up in a pink Wintersday outfit, that always puts a big smile on my face.

The same is true with the weapon skins, why make them so exclusive and eliminate options, and then have players selling the skins for thousands of gold .. I don’t play to make other players even more wealthy so they can manipulate the market .. Seriously.

We can dream can’t we …

Still, the return of the weapon skins would be fantastic … it’s slim pickings now, and the prices for skins on the Black Market are absurd … How about a price cap? …or perhaps making all weapon skins account bound, now there’s an idea!

I used (notice past tense) to enjoy playing the Thief, and yes we who play the Thief are Assassins. I played the Assassin class in Guild Wars, fell in love with it, then over time it became nearly unplayable. I haven’t given up on the class altogether, I always hold out hope that someday we Thieves could be better balanced when compared to other classes. Sadly, you must play the class so cleanly in order to be even marginally effective, your expected survival is less than thirty five percent. I rack up more deaths than kills, and why not give Thieves an earned title for being ganked numerous time ..reach 5000 deaths you get a title like “Foolhearty” ..most Thieves have to be playing a weak and overtly nerfed class.

I won’t stop playing the Thief because of the inadequacy, I will continue to attempt to find a build that might give me that sharp edge to these butter knives I’ve been given instead of the daggers I was used to.

Honestly .. I don’t think I’ll rage quit a game after playing for over ten years because marketing got cheap on production. Though after such a overwhelming response from players so excited to hear of an expansion such as “Heart of Thorns” coming soon one would have thought loyal and devoted players would have been given an option of buying a Collector Edition box set ..
The idea of just giving a T-shirt and maybe a color plate of Rytlock in all his Revenant glory would be asking to much, I mean after-all NCsoft (the apparent ruler of Anet) could see it as to much effort to produce a collectable and that the faithful players could purchase and obviously we don’t deserve to receive anything tangible.
… and the truth about digital to those less inclined is .. the quality is ALWAYS diminished, small case in point, a solid state digital amplifier vs. the lowly analog tube amplifier, just ask any musician about the quality of sound in comparison, whoa, wait, there is no comparison, digital kittens .. analog ROCKS!!!
The same holds true with digital downloads, it’s sketchy at best .. and what’s really nice is if you happen to have hit minor glitch you get to purchase it all over again, now that’s a bonus I know I would look forward to. On the other hand having a CD to download you can place it in your new up-graded computer at anytime in the future and still have the same quality load each and every time, no matter how many new computers you buy in the future.

That certainly is a bummer … I dislike digital downloads with a passion because of the Epic failure of transferring information. I have never experienced a reasonable facsimile from any electronic digital download, there are always flaws. A master disk is a much better way to keep and store information when upgrading your personal computer as well …
A giant step backwards, in my opinion. I guess giving credit to the artists concept art is highly over-rated, and after ten years we should just allow ourselves to become complacent with the “regal” offerings.

Late Crafters Punishment

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: jia li ng.8415

jia li ng.8415

We’ll simply this down to a single element in order to clarify the observation …

Now we all know how three maps are basically trashed (there is actually four, but hey, let’s keep it really simple). Lion’s Arch is kittened with no hope of ever seeing it return to its former glory (not that it was all that glorious to begin with) and with prospects that Scarlet’s wreckage will ever be cleared (it just adds to the historic feel) .. Kessex Hills double wreckage will never be cleared because it’s so much better now than it ever was from the beginning (denote a modicum of sarcasm) ..and Dry Top while it is as it is and it’s the only way we’ve known it ..

I digress, my apologies …

But it does bring us to the point I am stating; Imagine, you the newbie choose to craft a particular item (not that any item you choose to craft actually matters) but you decide your character might benefit with, hmm, let’s say, charged ambrite orichalcum earrings, sure why not …

Oh, but wait, those take charged quartz crystals, eh not a big deal right just go to the home instance and mine a few a day until you can charge them up (since we all know the Zephyrites don’t have anything to celebrate and we’ll never be able to farm there ever again) … Oh what? You don’t have a Quartz node in your home instance? (Where the kitten were you?) That’s right your a new player, silly me … Hmm, what are your options, go to Dry Top and wait and farm a node or three a day (hopefully within the allotted time frame)… Are you sure you really want to craft those charged ambrite orichalcum earrings, really?

I personally feel for these new players who have to make do with their efforts, and I wish them all the fortune in the entire world of Tyria because the only way that they will ever succeed in crafting something that make them feel accomplished is to grind, wait and hope for the chance to do what we take for granted …

…and like I said, it really doesn’t matter about these kitten newbies anyway .. Why should we care if it is more time consuming for them, they weren’t there at the release so let’s make them suffer, right? Do they really deserve that kind of treatment?

Late Crafters Punishment

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Just an observation about the whole wonderful world of crafting ..

..and I really feel bad for the newer players coming into the game ..

Let’s say you would like to go down the crafting route, make yourself some better armor and maybe a weapon or some trinkets as well ..

All I can say is good luck .. since by the time you get to the level of crafting marginally worthwhile garbage, er I meant armor, the game has changed so radically that, lucky you the newbie will be spending the next two years attempting to acquire just enough components to craft up enough gear for one character ..

Not at all the rewarding experience that it could have been for playing, but it is what it is.

Now I know that a lot of kitten heads will say it’s not as bad as all that (and these are the ones that were enabled to receive the now obscure and unobtainable items we take for granted) ..but what about those new players? Eh, it don’t matter I got mine, to heck with those whiners.

It’s a minor imbalance, a major inconvience, but who cares, right! Just as long as I got mine. And hey, you should be paying a penalty for joining the game late, you shouldn’t get items that others have because you weren’t there participating in those historical events, what would be fair about that?

So it takes you newbies a few more years to get up to speed and have the gear that will make you proud that you (finally) finished crafting your kitten armor, weapons, and trinkets ..it’s ok, we really don’t care how much of your real life was wasted trying to do what we already did, mind you we were able to craft six additional sets of armor, weapons, and trinkets because we got our rewards for playing from the release but that’s beside the point ..take pride in what you’ve accomplished, you know I am actually envious, you have grinded tedious hours ad nauseam to accomplish something within the game that shouldn’t have been so difficult a task to do.

So in that regard, we veteran players really should be thankful ..and to all those newbies who stuck it out without giving up on your crafted acquisitions .. KUDOS !!!

I use an Axe/Horn combo almost exclusively, only occasionally swapping to Staff for ranged aggro. Having played a Zerked Elementalist which is fun, this combination for a Necro is even more fun when you are getting waves of undead pouring on top of you .

When you are completely surrounded, I drop wells of corruption and suffering, horn a locust swarm and drop into death shroud using life transfer, pop back out of death shroud as it begins it’s cool down, then use unholy feast. Veterans in the group may need ghastly claws which will charge up your death shroud quickly, drop back into death shroud using life blast to finish the Veteran, rinse repeat, if you need a little health use well of blood.

Ezekiel 37:1-14, may be the origin of the undead in literature.

“1. And the hand of YHVH was upon me, and YHVH brought me out by wind and set me down in the valley, and it was filled with bones… 7. …And there was a voice.. and behold, earthquake, and the bones joined, bone to its bone. 8. And I saw, and behold, sinew upon them, and flesh rose, and skin covered over them, but there was no wind in them… 10. … And the wind came into them and they lived, and they stood upon their legs, a very great horde.”

Source: Revenant-Wikipedia
Many stories were documented by English historians in the Middle Ages. William of Newburgh wrote in the 1190s, “It would not be easy to believe that the corpses of the dead should sally (I know not by what agency) from their graves, and should wander about to the terror or destruction of the living, and again return to the tomb, which of its own accord spontaneously opened to receive them, did not frequent examples, occurring in our own times, suffice to establish this fact, to the truth of which there is abundant testimony”. Stories of revenants were very personal, always about a specific individual who had recently died (unlike the anonymous zombie depicted in modern popular culture), and had a number of common features. But like zombies, revenants were undead and typically malevolent creatures.

Seriously, I am not bashing the Guild Wars Franchise …
I find the that the irreverent use of the term Revenant to be woefully wrong in this instance, we will obviously deal with it like we always have in the past by choosing to ignore it. We will play our Revenants as if the word doesn’t have any true meaning except for the one provided for us. We will blindfold our eyes and pretend, and we will dumb down ourselves to someone else’s level because that’s what we allow of ourselves.
I’m not whining about finally seeing new content … the graphics and splash appear to be intriguing, and I look forward to Heart of Thorns release … if for nothing else to see just exactly how much the mechanics change. It’s far to late to change the mistake now, far to many players have bought into the loose interpretation and are like me excited to play whatever the Developers can bring us.
I guess the complexity of Personality Traits was more than a little problematic and that’s why it was gutted …and that was something entirely fresh.

In all of my thorough, methodical, and exhaustive research on the history of Revenants I can state unequivocally that in no instance based in lore did a Revenant summon spirits or evoke Legends of Heros to support their ghoulish rampage, mind you that a Revenant in every story dating back to over ten centuries, the mythology continually alludes to their being undead. The Revenant returns after a long absence from the grave to seek revenge on transgressions.
You can chose to believe anything you wish about the mythos, you can say Revenants are Holy Warriors with spiritual attitude and attunements that allow them to summon Heroic Helpers, no matter how you attempt to justify the terminology loosely doesn’t belie the facts.
When we are given to actually play the Revenant I believe we all will find intense similarities between it and the Ritualist. Who knows it could even be an amalgamation of the Ritualist and the Dervish. We shall see …

I must admit the word Revenant just rolls off the tongue so much more lyrically … and I also agree ArenaNet does have a limited ability utilizing vocabulary in the naming of classes …
The “Think Tank” that comes up with the terminology does the best they can …
An attempt however feeble should be viewed (I guess) as somewhat creative, and since there is finally some kind of progress in evolving GW2 I won’t complain about the semantics and loose interpretations the developers grasp at … at least they are trying. Kudos …
Maybe … Eight or Ten years from now players will get the Expansion into Cantha and Elona, and by using the vertical maps to be introduced in Heart of Thorns we might see even more of the world of Tyria. Eventually, maybe?

Another good movie about Revenants .. “Pet Sematary” by Stephen King

GW2 could have called the Revenant :

The Resurgent

It would have made more sense than evoking imagery of undead …

Yes, I do recall that quest with my Norn fighting the Sons of Svanir with the help of a Shaman who could only keep the portal open a short while … and I do understand how the portals to the mists work and the reality therein …that is not the point .. The point is Revenant by any definition is an undead .. You can chose to say returning from a long absence after being buried alive doesn’t make you nessarily dead or a reanimated corpse if you want .. You can rationalize the meaning and definition of the word to be whatever you wish, it doesn’t change the fact of the true meaning of the word …

I understand it’s easier to borrow code already written and add splash to it and call it something else than it is to do something fresh, new, and unexpectedly creative, just as the idea of flight will be borrowed from Aion making GuildWars2 seem to be an up"dated" experience … Learning the mastery of skills across your entire account instead of each character you have laboring over each task over and over again, will be nice ..

What was new and fresh … Personality Traits, how you, your character could make choices and how the world used to react to those choices … gone

That being said .. The Revenant will be fun to play .. Just as the Ritualist is still very fun to play (especially the Ritualist/Assassin, one of my personal favorites) .. and as other skillsets and weapons will become available to use the learning curve and experimentation for all the classes will be interesting and challenging.

Let’s see is Rytlock an undead ..

We should restate what we know .. Hmm, did Rytlock use Sohothin in a ritual to rid Ascalon of the cursed spirits, I think so .. At least that’s what I saw
Upon driving Sohothin into the ground did the ground open up a portal to the mists, and did the covetous greed of Rytlock make him jump into the mists to get his stolen sword back .. Again that’s what it looked like to me
.. And did the ground close behind Rytlock burying him alive .. Whoa!, it looked like that to me …
So .. Using the lore of what makes a Revenant .. Rytlock fills every niche

Ok then presume he just floated around like we did after the brain tap in the living story part one on the ley line .. maybe he didn’t die .. Just floating around looking for Sohothin .. by every definition living-dead .. A Revenant ..
While he was drifting around he stopped for tea and crumpets and chatted up a couple heroic legendary spirits and they listened to his story and decided to lend him a hand .. He got Sohothin back and returned with all new skill sets including Assassin and Ritualist skills ..

The very carefully worded release of the Revenant information is to disguise the fact that you will be playing a warmed over Ritualist masked in the heavy armor of a Guardian, with health stats of a Thief, casting spells like a Necromancer, and with a whole new set of glamors and wonderous joy-joys .. and if you care to do any research on the subject matter Revenants are Undead according to any lore you wish to study albeit the Norse call it Draugr translated “again walker” .. it is the same.

As to what they will be casting, their attunements allow for only two legends to be enabled so you have to “chose wisely” .. the Legends summoned will behave as a spectral power on your behalf until they get bored with helping you (or your attunement times out) then you’ll on your own for however long it takes you to charge up your attunement again two or three minutes maybe ..

“The Mists resonate from the worlds around them, forming bits of their own reality – islands of existence that reflect the histories of their worlds”. However, the true nature of the Mists is that as a player character you can only channel into a very small controlled portion of the Mists as a construct. Given this logic everyone who enters a Pvp, WvW, or FotM is not in reality in the Mists but a construct simulating an ethereal plane .. we can travel there through portals that give us a partial glimpse into only a small portion of a history or past reality while not actually the Mists for want of a better term ..
You could call PvP and WvW the “PK” arenas, and since quite a number of players apparently like this form of play why not call it what it is .. my contention is that this created construct is not the Mist in proper .. more like a Holodeck on the Starship Enterprise than the depths of the Mists …
