That was a blast. Glad you guys put this together thanks….
Glifted.
Is this still happening? TC at 6 server time right?
Just use any 1hander with the focus till 60. Then just use Runes of the Centaur. I have leveled two Mesmers, the first was a condition staff build, and the second was a zerker GS build. Both times I used scepter or sword/focus as my off hands for running around and GS/Staff in dungeons.
Currently I run GS/staff with a full zerker 20/20/0/0/30 build and do insane damage and have an almost 100% uptime for swiftness.
Im now leveling my 2nd Mesmer. (I know its kinda silly but I love them) The first mesmer was a sylvari and I leveled him with Carrion gear staff Main and sword/focus off hand which I only used for traveling.
While this build didnt kill anything very fast it was very durable, and I rarely died. I could solo champs no prob. Not Veterans I do mean Champs. Veterans were like normal mobs. They were really easy.
My second mesmer is an Asura. Im going full Zerker gear with the GS and while he isnt quite as durable he hits like a truck and stuff dies alot faster. I run with the staff as a second weapon set for survive-ability. I use the sigil of inspiration for the occasional speed buff when running around. It helps; I also heard there was a rune that grants swiftness with heals I need to look into.
The only other class I leveled to 80 was a Guardian. He was an absolute blast to level. I still pull him out of the stable all the time when I wanna play an in yer face kinda class that offers alot of support. Plus blue fire is really cool amirite?
Are Mesmers hard to level? Thats kind of a difficult question to answer. If the question was are they hard for me? Then that would be a firm No. However they may be hard for some. They have a bit of a learning curve. Once you dial them in though in my humble opinion I believe the Mesmer is the best offering; from they Professions they included in the game.

These suggestions are Brilliant!
ArenaNet is shooting them selves in the foot with these server caps. I mean I would pay right now to transfer but I cannot simply because accounts are home-bound there. Are all of those players even active?
If you don´t know, Internet is a network, and like all networks it has LIMITED RESOURCES. Removing the server caps will just create the most incredible lag you can imagine.
Let´s look… On an simple PvE content, I spend 25kBps (250kbps). In LA overflow it can go to peaks of 70kBps (700kbps), Imagine for just ONE instant if there is no cap on servers. A map with 10000 players at same time consuming 700kbps (and more people in the same area more packets, so 700kbps is just for illustration). 7000000kbps, 700000kBps, 700MBps… It´s more than most pratical limits for Gigabit ethernet. Now imagine the full limit of IP network connections 64000 connections at the same time. It can drive crazy most of those fiber optics networks.
With a 3million copy sold… 64000 players is easy to imagine.
http://www.polygon.com/2013/1/15/3878496/guild-wars-2-has-sold-three-million-copies-since-launchAnd I´m just talking about NETWORK. Not talking about processors, memory, disk space…
So limiting population is not stupidity, is a way to lower they costs and mantain the paramaters inside HARDWARE limitations.
@Ovotoxin
You had the best idea ever for this. Thanks.
Interesting how the servers are magically opened up for transfers. I guess the pedantic lecture you gracefully through out was mute.
I Noticed you guys lifted the restrictions on the servers and wanted to personally thank you for giving us one last free transfer…. That was very cool of you guys. Way to think about your community of fans!
That was top Notch!

I mean why should active players not have access to play with their friends because all the slots are taken by home-bound accounts.
They should create an incentive to WvW on lower pop servers that would make people Xfer to these realms.. They would make way more money from Xfers as well as keep the Full server pops lower because the server hoppers would be constanlty going to lower pop servers.
I find it very unfortunate that people who want to play with friends will have to wait for others to leave the server they desire to go to.
The guesting feature is great and all but at some point when you recruit new players, what incentive is it to play when they have to pay to be on the same server to be able to do all of the features in the game in an MMO.. It just doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me i guess.
My idea for incentives to move to lower pop is maybe, create some type of reward for moving to a lower pop server and moving the server up the teir. Then Guilds could take credit for moving servers up and down the score boards and it would increase the spirit of competition between not only servers but guilds as well.
I don’t really know of such an incentive, I have thought about it for a while and didn’t come up with anything concrete.
Maybe create WvW specific achievements that can be used to buy ascended items or something based on teir of the server X control points and total wins.
Sorry if these seem like poor suggestions, these are all ideas I think may help.
I don’t know a single person who is still playing after they dropped the ascended gear patch.
Granted, i was only playing with 15 or so up until then, Im hoping for them to want to come back so I have a reason to log on again. I doubt it though.
Everyone I knew in game have all stopped playing. That’s about 25 people. I am tired of logging in to find no one, so I have slowly stopped playing myself.
I loved Fractals though. Granted I only got to level 2 but it was pretty fun.
Too bad there is new gear to farm and the people i played with who were interested in that aspect of gameplay are all playing MoP now.
Oh well. I will just keep an eye on things and hope they change so people may come back some day . This game had a lot of promise.
It was really hard to Defend you guys when people started linking the Ascended items.
I really don’t want to spend the time to get the new gear. All of my friends have moved on from this game. This may have just put the nail in the coffin for me as well. I will log in tomorrow and enjoy the events. After this weekend though I may not have it in me anymore.
This is a sad day. You guys had something great. Just couldnt help your selves, had to please the share holders. Im afraid its only going to make things worse. The decline in players will be even faster now. If i had wanted a new teir of gear I can go back to playing WoW. This just doesnt make any sense. The patch notes were also quite sad. too many nerfs. just too many.
Im really, really bummed. i waited for 2 years for this game. At least I got a couple months out of it. its just too bad.
Ouch I just read this.
“Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs.”
-Mike Obrien, President of Arenanet
That really hurts as a player. I believed this idea. I sit in full exotics minus underwater and back. I thought I was done. I was gonna start working on my Legendary. Guess Not.
/sad
There is no ignoring of this Issue. Whether you support the decision or despise it.
This is an added change most weren’t expecting. I for one did not.
I’m still on the fence about how I feel about though. I left WoW because I got tired of every single major patch or expansion I had to start gearing my toon all over again. I thought I wasnt going to have to do that with this game, but it appears that I am going to.
I do know that alot of the folks I play with have already jumped ship. I am afraid this is the beginning of the end of this game. I hope not because I love it, I really do.
Anet, you guys need to have a come to Jesus meeting on this one. People are pissed.
And whether or not the players are for or against this change, you may not wanna throw this on the table.
I guess I’ll wait and see. I will play where my friends are though. At this rate I dont think its gonna be Tyria for much longer though.

Another vote for BARD!!!!!!!
I can imagine how great Anet could pull that class off. The trident for the Mesmer is my favorite underwater weapon in the game.
More magic Music notes please!!!
Hey I sent you a PM and Im trying to apply on your site, Its nto working or w/e. i guess ill add you and try to catch you in game thanks.
Sword/torch is a bad combo since all you get is a bit of burning. Cleansing Flames doesn’t actually do any more damage than the sword auto, in fact, it does less.
Meh, If the OP enjoys that particular play-style, why crap in his cereal? Anet made it possible for a reason.
I use the scepter/torch as a second set myself, but I leveled to 80 with the sword/torch as my 2nd weap set. I think its fun.

I have two 80s, Mesmer/Guardian and have a couple friends that play late afternoons, and often into the late night who are looking for an active talkative guild. We are all 80 in exotics.
We are more along the lines of Casual. We focus on PVE and would like to get more into WvW. We have been in a small guild since launch but no one does anything lol. So we have only done just a couple EXplorables.
Theres 4 of us total that are looking for sure, maybe more. Please send me a PM in game or any other avenue for contact thanks. Jon
I have to agree, Mesmer is a great profession. Few little bugs to be worked out here and there, but overall I really like what has been done with the profession. I stepped into Spvp yesterday for the first time with 7 of my guildies and they were all whining I was OP. So i explained to them how to spot the Mesmer. Then the crying dissipated.
People think the class is OP or too strong until they play one. They are slippery. I don’t think they are the strongest class in pvp though. I think they are competitive for sure. I get rolled by any player on any profession who is better then me, plain and simple.
Players need to learn their professions, understand the tools at their respective disposal as well other professions tools. I don’t think they would QQ as much after that.
Thanks a ton for this guide. I cannot remember if you covered this in your build section though.
Would putting points into Dueling be a bit better if you are running a sword/oh as one of your weapon setups instead of putting points into power?
I would love to see Preview in the Trading post.
Another great change would be Game Controller support via Anet as apposed to third party support. I know you guys are busy. Maybe some day though =P
