Thanks for the new shortbow collection advice. I peeked in and the huntsman journal looks cool – a subcollection of lots to do, it looks great. Plus baby tigers.

I’ll be ready to commit to another legendary journey after my wallet fattens up again. It’s feeling pretty slim after Nevermore haha.

Nevermore is a perfect Legendary Journey

I couldn’t find another Nevermore topic (am I using the search function wrong?) so I just wanted to tell the designers that I love the final weapon and I loved the journey.

The steps in tier 1 and 3 especially were very interesting to do as a charr because of the particular historical connections to the human subject matter for a bunch of it (and GW1 lore). I imagine doing this on a norn would give a different feeling altogether. In other words, when I was doing things in Ascalon I felt an emotional connection as a charr – I felt a sense of responsibility for the past – but when doing the spirit stuff in Shiverpeaks, I felt like just a guest dipping my toe in lore that is not part of my culture. I bet it would be a different experience as a norn. I could go on… So good job on depth and breadth and an internal feeling of differentiation depending on what race you are.

People have complained that there isn’t enough story in the legendary journeys. But something about the attention to particular kinds of collectibles built a larger story in my head, even though it was just one or two sentences at a time. I think it really works. The tier 4 collection is like 60-some things, for example, so it really starts to add up and come together as a big idea. Good job to the story folks also!

And a word to the economists – of course it is a pain to gather so many materials in tier 2, but it’s a great material sink to keep the economy healthy, and a reasonable thing to ask of an end-game player looking for something epic to do, so good job there as well!

Good job guys!

“Old And Cranky [OK] is recruiting. We tried to dress up as ghosts and rob the haunted house. We would’ve gotten away with it too if it weren’t for those darn kids and their meddling dog.”

Nod to Scooby Doo there.

Guild name: Old And Cranky [OK]

We do, from most to least: PvP, WvW, PvE, crafting, jumping puzzles, standing around, and making fun of each other

Server: Blackgate (but that only matters for WvW)

Active: times when people in North America are awake

We are very casual but love to smash faces in as much as possible. We don’t use TeamSpeak because we like to listen to music while we play. Also we like the element of chance and chaos.

I’m the guild leader and I will be 40 next year. But not everyone is Old & Cranky!

Anyone who is old, with an old soul, or just a sense of humor is welcome.

We don’t take ourselves very seriously. We like to have fun and tease each other mercilessly.

Idea: Revenant Legend and Weapon synergy

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I’ve been playing a ranger main since 2012 and today tried revenant for the first time and was confused about weapon/legend synergy or wondering if it’s even a thing.

It’s cool that you can build, for example, a Shiro/Mallyx with a staff and a hammer or any crazy number of combos.

But it seems to me something that would make rev special is if there were some kind of synergy bewteen a legend and the weapon(s) that pairs best with it. Like the double swords seem to go with Shiro but you don’t have to equip them if you prefer to play your Shiro utilities with a hammer equipped, for example.

Maybe this is something that has been talked about, but for my first try today it seemed unclear or unexplained or perhaps didn’t matter. Maybe it would be best as a topic to learn about as you level up a revenant.

On a side topic – I had trouble switching legends on F1 because I am used to switching pets with F4! Haha old habits die hard.

I still had fun and found rev to be responsive with smooth combat animations, and the damage felt pretty good. And I like the lore of the legends. Good job anet!

I’d say there is a pretty strong sentiment against the idea of collapsing all of WvW into 3 colors, rather than the current world set up. Which I agree with. I think world pride and association is an important part of the way that WvW works currently.

Here’s a possible version of shorter matchups that wouldn’t necessarily sacrifice the long term fight of a WvW matchup currently and wouldn’t involve merging everyone into one of three teams.

Matches last 8 hours, there are 21 matches in a week with the same 3 worlds, the winner of the week is the world that wins the most matches over the course of that time.

This solves some of the problems we see currently, namely the issues that can arise as matches get out of hand towards the end of the week. However, it would still give worlds with better coverage a leg up on their opponents. It also loses the feeling that you’ve had a long term battle for victory.

I’m curious what you all think of that? Does it retain the feeling of victory in WvW right now and solve problems or does it just introduce more issues without solving any core concerns?

I think it’s worth a try. Someone in this thread I think mentioned this as a way to mitigate coverage problems. So that if you break a 24-hour day into thirds, it will more fairly reward victories to the best coverage for that time of day. It’s still coverage victory, but I think it is BETTER than the current way.

I’m also not sure about how to blend the 8-hour victories into a weekly score without starting to use complicated math weighting based on trying to compensate for coverage problems…something more to think about. But again, if the winner is the server that won the most of the 21 weekly matches, I think it is flawed but BETTER than the current scoring method.

But thanks for thinking about it, Devon & team <3

Please improve matchmaking parity first

I don’t think we are ready for ladders or seasons until we address matchmaking right now. Players of like rank and like skill need to be better matched together. I worry that ladders and seasons would isolate large groups of players from each other that might otherwise be compatible, due to the imbalance in matchmaking in the months up to this point.

We are still seeing too many matches of ranks like this: red team: 36, 13, 14, 52, 7 vs blue team: 37, 32, 28, 29, 34. Number averages don’t equal normalizing skill across a team.

Until this is fixed, you will be artificially pulling apart similarly skilled players and putting together incompatible players with any kind of additional layer of tournaments, ladders, etc. on top of a matchmaking system that isn’t working as well as it must.

Matchmaking improvements will likely come out at the same time, or some time before. We don’t have any dates yet, but a requirement of anything coming out of this CDI would have the new server infrastructure as a prerequisite.

That’s music to our ears, and thanks for taking the time to respond so quickly!

Proposal Overview
Using what we’ve learned in EotM to create 3 unique Bordlerlands Maps

Goal of Proposal
Bring the long-sought dream of three different Bordlerlands to life by imbuing each with a different environment, such as found in EotM. Perhaps Red BL becomes a desert BL, Blue BL becomes the snowy winter BL, and Green BL is the jungle map.
Having three exact copies of maps for the three Borderlands has always seemed like a neccessity for the devs in releasing the game on time due to lack of resources to allow WvW to have 4 different maps (EB+3 different BLs) because, due to the diversity in the rest of the gorgeous and varied and detailed world of GW2, one would expect this same diversity in all the areas that the Mist War sends you.

Proposal Functionality
-Perhaps new Borderlands maps could be rolled out one at a time.
-As a quick solution, one of the Borlderlands could be replaced with the EotM map in its entirety right now, so at least ONE of the BLs is different. Then other gradual map changes could be rolled out to the other BLs as they are completed.
-As an even smaller request, introducing some of the features of EotM into the existing BL on a per-map basis. Perhaps you add some destructible terrain to Green BL, some verticality and choke points to Blue BL, and drop some of the unique NPCs and boss mechanics into Red BL, just to start.

Associated Risks
-Anything new done to just one BL map at a time will attract players and may cause population imbalance on the other maps
-Considerable dev time and resources would be required

Collaborative Development: Ranger Profession

Specific Game Mode:

PvE

Proposal Overview:

Tutorial/Outreach/Education to community about all the varied abilities and buffs Ranger pets possess, which can be requested of a well-informed Ranger for any combat situation.

Goal of Proposal:

-New Rangers will learn how to use their pets beyond just tanking and doing damage.
-Rangers need to know that their pets are, for all intents and purposes, 40 different powerful buffs with legs and wings and tails, but many new (and some veteran!) Rangers don’t know how to use most animals aside from bears, and most non-Rangers don’t know what to ask for from the Ranger in their group.
-Rangers never have to hear again in map chat, “Rangers put your pets away” or “Put your pets on passive” because everyone will know what all the Ranger pets can do to help in each distinct situation.
-Rangers will be welcome and requested in groups and open-world teams.

Proposal Functionality:

-All Rangers will know their pets don’t just help them do damage or protect them as a tank. Different Ranger pets give might, protection, heal, blind, confuse, fear, immobilize, single-target damage, AoE damage, and on and on. Rangers will get better at their profession.
-Non-ranger group members will know what Ranger pets can do and request it in a group or open-world map chat.

Associated Risks:

-Potential waste of dev resources and time if the tutorial/outreach is too academic.
-Tutorials may be skipped by players in a hurry to roll a new toon.
-40 different pets, in combination with all the other ways a Ranger can set up her build, may overwhelm new players when you introduce them to the vast variety of things a Ranger pet can do to help you, your group, or your open-world team.
-Non-ranger players may not trust a ranger with requesting of them specific pet usages because it sounds like too many moving parts or too complex of a build for that Ranger to know how to use.

Hi Gaile

I only just found out about this thread, so I want to kindly ask you to take a look at this ticket that I sadly gave up on in November 2013: #111648

I had a Rox’s quiver skinned onto an ascended Yakkington backpack, and infused it in the Mystic Forge around the Fractured update so I could put an ascended infusion slot in it. The piece upgraded properly but I lost the skin!

I was very sad about this. I understand using the mystic forge at your own risk when you are throwing in 4 rares or exotics or something trying to get a precursor, or runes or sigils, or any number of other things, and you know you might lose something going into it. Those are known risks in a gambling situation.

With this particular Mystic Forge interaction, however, I was following a tested recipe on the wiki that I assumed wouldn’t cause you to lose your beloved gemstore skin! Having spent valuable mats as well such as 250 globs of ecto in this upgrade process, I felt very confident that this MF recipe was in no way a gamble or chance-taking, but an interaction with 4 ingredients that produces an assured result.

So I would just love if you could have another look at my situation. I’m sorry for the long delay, but I found some other folks on reddit just today who are having a similar loss in quite the same interaction with the Mystic Forge, so I thought I’d try once more time to get Rox’s Quiver back in case there is some renewed sympathy for our collective plights!

Thank you very much and thanks for all your hard work on the forums!

Collaborative Development Topic- Living World

in CDI

Posted by: kdose.5309

kdose.5309

Hi everybody,

I wanted to post again today to clarify what I was trying to say yesterday.

Some folks have pointed out that I mischaracterized some player opinion, and/or made generalizations about statistics. I acknowledge that and apologize.

So let me try to say something simpler to make my point:

I implore ArenaNet to consider two groups of players, and do the best they can with all the internal metrics they have to measure how we feel about the game:

Group 1. The players represented by most of the posters in this thread, who have been largely intelligent, articulate, and respectful in listing their concerns with the Living World.

Group 2. The tens of thousands – or possibly hundreds of thousands – of players who are silent in this thread. And to consider a few things that come to my mind as to why they are silent:

- They’ve read your thoughts and agree with you and don’t feel the need to add to the conversation

- They might have something to say but are too timid to post, or don’t think that what they have to say will be considered

- Some players simply don’t know there is a place for us to come and talk about the game together

- They like the game the way it is and feel no need to add to the discussion

I’m not going to reiterate my own personal preference, but just ask again that everyone keep an open mind and think about all of the players (who quite outnumber us forum posters) who have been silent, and think about why they aren’t saying anything.

It’s easy to think that the entirety of opinion is swirling within these 15 pages, but consider that 3 million copies of the game have been sold. Even if you count out the folks who’ve stopped playing or shouldn’t be counted for whatever reason, that’s still a lot of people whose voices we haven’t heard chime in here. I ask you to consider – why?

Just another thing to think about: I wanted to list the number of pages of length on the Living Story topic in other languages, and link to them so you can go see for yourself:

German – 3 pages: https://forum-de.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Gemeinsame-Entwicklung-Euer-Thema-Lebendige-Geschichte

French – 2 pages: https://forum-fr.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/game/D-veloppement-collaboratif-Monde-Vivant

Spanishonly 1 page! https://forum-es.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/game/Tema-de-desarrollo-colaborativo-Mundo-viviente

So what does all that mean? German, French, and Spanish players have less to complain about that American, Canadian, Brit, Irish, Aussie, and Kiwi players?

I have no idea. And none of us have access to ArenaNet’s internal metrics, statistics, and polling.

TL:DR Please keep an open mind. There are thousands upon thousands of players worldwide whose voices are silent in these pages and we should ask ourselves why that is.

Thanks guys!
Matt

Hi Chris and team. Thanks for the chance to discuss this with you.

I’d like to comment about cadence

I prefer the two week release schedule

I’m an active player in an active guild on SBI. Since the Living World began, I’ve never heard in chat anyone complaining about the releases coming too fast.

Commonly seen in map chat: “I’m bored.”

Commonly seen in guild chat: “Hello everyone! What should I do today?”

Active players consume content voraciously, quickly, and want more sooner.

I had to add a voice to this thread to say that active players never say no to more stuff to do. We love it.

The voices of the folks saying the Living World pacing is too fast deserve to be heard, because the reasons they can’t play more frequently or more hours are all reasonable things like jobs, family, trips, health, etc.

I have noticed that this thread, like many others, is weighted heavily with the folks who are not satisfied with the way things are. And I understand from what the dev team has said, is that that tends to be true for forums, ie, the folks who are happy with the game are underrepresented in the forums because they’re in the game enjoying themselves.

So all I can hope is that you have other metrics to discover the reaction to the decisions you make other than forums full of players who, for one legitimate reason or another, aren’t happy with the game.

TL;DR No active GW2 player with whom I interact in-game has ever complained about LW pacing being too fast. I look forward to the continuing discussion and in the end I hope that most players will be at peace with what you decide is the best choice for the largest number of players, while keeping an ear open for legitimate issues raised about pacing for folks who just don’t have the time to play a lot.

[Merged] Nameplates always showing

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

kdose.5309

Just wanted to +1 all this.

With culling removed everywhere now…

1. Nameplates in WvW are useful, so you can see how many bad guys are coming to kill you or how many good guys are around to save you.

2. Nameplates in PvE, particularly cities, aren’t necessary past the draw distance. If I’m in the lion’s arch bank and look out at the mystic forge plaza, I dont need to see nameplates to let me know players are all the way over in the TP, or the crafting area, etc. I know they’re there, but I don’t want to see a text placeholder if my computer can’t draw a toon. As another poster mentioned, I agree it puts a dent in immersion, and I don’t require it for gameplay.

Thanks for looking into it and hopefully considering some additional customizing tweaks for this.

But my GW2 downloader has been stuck at between 0 to 100 KB/sec for about 5 hours…

Right now I’m at zero. I’ve checked EVERYTHING. I reset my modem, connected directly to the modem with my PC, turned off firewall and anti-virus, and ran GW2 as an Admin…still no change.
