If someone feels that they can best contribute to their cause by just laying dead somewhere for an hour while their teammates have all the fun, let them.
If some commander or guild leader told me to corpse spy while they attack a keep, I’d tell him to go screw. I’m playing this game to have fun, not so that everyone else can have fun while I act like their stationary camera.
And to the people who willingly do this…have some dignity. If you want to take one for the team, do it in real life, not in a freaking game that doesn’t matter.
I guess I’m anti-social.
I’ve never been really fond of games that forced people to group or guild up in order to get things done.
I like being able to explore on my own, run into strangers, maybe do a few quests together, then go our separate ways.
I meet a lot more people this way and it makes the game seem much more alive to me.
It’s like this game was made for me.
Whenever I join a guild or a group, I’m suddenly restricted to doing whatever other people or the majority want to do. I inevitably end up spending every day grouping with the same 4 or 5 people in the guild. Suddenly, the game becomes like every other MMO I’ve ever played. Grinding mobs every day with the same group of people over and over again.
I’m a new player and have tried warrior, elementalist, ranger and mesmer (all only up to about level 20). The other day, a saw a guardian solo a champion with at least 4 adds in a level 15 area. I couldn’t tell what level he actually was, but he was being leveled down to 15 just like me. I have never been able to solo a champion. Heck, I can’t even solo a veteran if there are adds. He took them all down without even breaking a sweat.
Is it fairly typical for guardians to be able to solo champions with adds for most areas? Or do you think he was only able to do this because he was much higher level than the area and kept his skills and gear stats? Or maybe all classes can do this to some extent when they get good enough gear and stats and wander around lower level areas?
Just curious, because he made me want to roll a guardian.

I kind of agree.
One thing I noticed while playing both was that I enjoyed the warrior’s ranged abilities much more than the ranger’s. I really like the burst skills for the bow and rifle. By comparison, the pet abilities were kind of meh.
However, one thing that surprised me about the warrior compared to the ranger was the lack of survivability in my opinion. I remember having a much easier time surviving veterans and groups with my ranger than my warrior. Having the pet tank and being able to swap them out and the good assortment of pet/player survivability skills made me feel safer against challenging opponents. But maybe it was just me.
Cool. Thanks very much for the suggestions so far.
I guess I was expecting warrior to be tougher than other classes (except for maybe guardian) simply because of the heavy armor. So I tended to focus more on improving my damage output so I can kill faster.
But it sounds like we really don’t have that kind of advantage unless we also spec for toughness and choose survival utilities. That’s kind of a bummer.
If armor doesn’t really matter that much except for the type of stat boost, then I can see where going with a medium armor class with higher damage output would be better.
I’m pretty new to this game and have a level 20 warrior.
I’ve been noticing that I struggle to take on more than 2 of anything the same level as me.
Yesterday I was in Kessex Hills in that fishing village where the kraits attack alot. I got taken down by 2 kraits (I believe they were also level 20ish). Then a level 20 ranger came in (without a pet mind you) and took down 4 kraits just swinging around great sword.
I haven’t really been prioritizing any particular stat. I just wear whatever armor has the highest level requirement. I figured, at level 20 I really don’t need to be too picky about my armor since I’m going to out level it in a few hours anyway. I’ve been putting all of my trait points into strength and I’m using a dual axe, rifle combination.
Anyway I was kind of surprised because a ranger with medium armor was able to tank 4 when I with my heavy armor couldn’t even handle 2. I was amazed because he just stood there taking blows from 4 of them and they barely made a dent in his hp. He didn’t really seem to be doing anything other than just standing there and swinging his sword and taking the hits.
Is my armor that crappy?
Or should I be putting points into defense?
Or maybe I just don’t know what I’m doing?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Combos are pretty much the only reason I stuck with Elementalist.
Since our normal skills are so weak, I can’t imagine playing an Ele without constantly self combo-ing while cycling through atunements.
When I’m with other people it’s great. I can pop-off twice as many combos without waiting for my own cool-downs.
Back on and pretty much where I left off.
Yeah, the main reason I don’t like joining guilds very often is that it always ends up being like a job and ruining the game for me. I just want to log on and do what I want, not what other people want. I get that all day at work. I don’t need to deal with that on my free time at home.
What I love about this game is that you can participate in dynamic events with random people that happen to be wandering by. It’s natural and exciting and always interesting.
When I join a guild, I end up grouping with the same 3 or 4 people everyday doing what everyone else wants. No thanks.
I was fine with my Ele until I came to the forums and found people complaining about how weak it is compared to other classes. So I tried out the other classes and found that they were easier to play. I could literally just walk into the middle of a group and start spamming skills at random and everything would be dead. At first, I thought, wow they are right. But after a while I started getting extremely bored with this gameplay and went back to my Ele.
Nothing feels cooler than knowing that you have the worst survivability out of any class, but you still charge into the middle of a huge group, hitting just the right sequence of skills and attunements, expertly dodging the heavy attacks and walking away with a just a sliver of health left. If you can play this class, you can play any class.
This is the first time I’ve heard of a game stopping digital downloads because they were selling too many and couldn’t support the growing user base.
I wonder if it was actually a PR stunt to get people to think “wow, it must really be good if they can’t keep up with the sales”.
Why would you want to go to a level 1 area and tank 10 mobs when you’re level 50?
You don’t gain anything from it and you’re clearing out hunting grounds for the level appropriate people. I always hated in other games when higher levels would come to the low level areas and kill all the bosses just to make themselves feel good and those of us who need the quests have to wait for respawn.
