if you want an honest answer and are specifically looking to beat hambow, play an engineer with something like this:
make sure you kite w/ nades and keep up perma poison (you have 4 sources of it), you will win 9/10 times against hambow – if you really want to win just drop your crate early-mid fight
if you want a build that is meta and practical for all pvp use the build below this on engi. it is quite similar but the change extra dps from might, change of runeset and the utility of elixer S in team fights will make you a formidable opponent:

Thoughts on another que for players to join other soloqs mid match? if you are in this que it doesnt affect your leaderboard ranking or mmr. 50% of my games since reset in soloq have been 4v5 and I have never left or rage quit. 50%. I would que in the fill in que just so other people dont have bad experiences with 4v5 and i would probably get in games faster then if i was to que normally. Based on my experience, if someone DCs there is a 5% chance at most that they will return to that soloq. A sample restriction to this would be you wont join a match where a team has more then 400 points.
Any positive thoughts?

TLDR: gaurdians can double and triple cast the third attack in the auto chain that drastically increases dps: does this mean higher skillcap for dps gaurd to play optimally? or bug? -.-

So I’ve been soloqing with a righthand meditations valk build recently, oddly with great success for unrelated reasons. But, occasionally in 1v1s I find I double cast sword 3 chain, and they both land, for a total of 6 sword waves hits (sword wave is the name of the last attack in the auto chain that normally hits 3 times).
I believe this happens in 1v1s when if a player moves out of my direct line of sight and the attack triggers a side hit box on the sword attack (not the targets).
After looking into it I can reproduce this chain on a stationary target with mediocre effort: if you change your facing angle to the side or walk in a circle around your target while casting the third auto attack on sword, it will hit, but wont reset the chain and you can cast it again. With good positioning you can triple cast the sword auto attack 3.
sword chain 3 does more damage naturally then 1 or 2 respectively, thus recasting it should result in an increase in dps.
sample data in attached picture, some quick math (including opening cast and ending activation), take these actual numbers/times with a grain of salt.
normal sword chain dps per second in my build:1654
(regular over 2.8 seconds:4633)
sword chain with a double final cast dps in my build:1781
(double over 3.5 seconds:6236)
sword chain with a triple cast in my build:1997
(triple over 4.2 seconds:8391)
So 20% dps increase based on the random picture test case, normally the dps increase is bigger if you were to use ideal numbers, ex some of my 3 chain didnt crit in the second cast where as it did in the first.
I wont do math for a full zerker/scholar set with full dps traits etc b/c i know my numbers aren’t precise and this is just a quick post, but the numbers are significantly bigger.
High Skill Cap? Bug? Feature? if its a skill cap feature this would be amazing, but 20+% is a lot
Haven’t been getting pvp daily chest for a while now… almost a week… maybe i win to many tournies, which i doubt, and the icons are blocking out the chests – but i clicked though a bunch and found no daily chests so idk – just a psa to see if its happening to anyone else

Hello all!
I am newish to mesmer, and am looking to see if anyone is aware of a sPvP guide to vertical phase retreat locations.
I know all of the blink spots from playing other classes, but am not super pro at phase retreat yet and don’t completely understand the rules of the mechanic.
So far it seems that I can phase retreat in places where I could normally blink within 450 range (seems to be half the range of blink), but where you can not walk underneath as its preference is given to horizontal movement.
I currently only know some basic phase retreat locations such as the side ledge points on Kyhlo and am looking to see if anyone is aware of any guides to phase retreat.

Is this how leaderboards are currently set up?
Honestly I think it’s good for pushing leavers but I am just curious – I won today 500-234, 500-150, 675-0, 500-300. I am marked for 2 wins 2 losses b/c at the end of two games (just before victory, 10 points maybe) my connection goes in and out.
Just looking to see if others notice dc causes wins to become losses:)

Basic Elite Application: When used right, I have found Rampage is the most powerful debunking skill in the game. Just make sure if your fighting another bunker, you make them blow their stability early by poking at them with your rifle butt or your team’s CCs. I find positioning around the environment is key to using Rampage or any other CC. I usually start with a Dash or Kick for initial CC off point as Stomp is too easy to dodge on its own, but follow stop up with an immediate Throw Boulder to keep them down once I get them there. If they pop stability after a CC, I wait and don’t use 2-5 until they are off stability and unleash in full force. The fact that this is on a high cooldown isn’t much of an issue, as playing Rampage well for 20 seconds is more then enough to neut a bunker and even full cap when well played, you’ll want the survivability of your other weapon sets back as soon as you achieve this. Side note: in clutch team fights, you can use Rampage for the quick CC unload and use the massive stability uptime for clutch resses and stomps.
What this build can do:
Give meta bunker builds a run for their money, de-bunk those builds, offer teamfight support, condi cleanse, great mobility, team healing, more dodges then you will ever need, and much, much more!
What this build requires:
Waiting and reacting to CC, knowing other classes and proper positioning on point when not roaming, you won’t be dealing much DPS, but thats the nature of the beast in this case.
Please note that this build is successful when paired with a complementary play style. Traits and gear alone will not produce success!

TL;DR: Personally I have had great success with this build and have decided to share it after many people have asked me to share it and are always interested in build diversity in tPvP. If you value the current leaderboards for a frame of reference, this has been run with success against full premades made up on the top half of the leaderboards, but my results aside, I recommend giving it a shot.
I am aware the things a warrior can struggle with as a bunker, I’m looking for feedback including improvements, variations, questions and comments. I am always open to all feed back! Build diversity can be a good thing.

A quick note on dodging: Quick Breathing will give also give you perma vigor via Call to Arms which is nice(and more condi clear), but in addition to this you have two sigils of energy on your weapons and due to the 15 points in strength that let you pick up Building Momentum, you should use your burst skill on mace as often as possible, regardless of adrenaline it gives you half an endurance bar, and then instantly refilling it with weapon swaps, mainly on the banner and then I would start talking about Adrenal Health so the synergy comes full circle. And not that your a DPS class, but having Reckless Dodge at the end of your myriad of them doesn’t hurt, just dont be reckless with when you use them.
When picking up these traits listed so far you also gain three minor traits that are a nice resurrection bonus in addition to your Runes of Mercy, and the vit and boon duration are key pickups.
In the Defense tree, in addition to Adrenal Health, Last Stand is a last resort in the event you aren’t able to predict a CC. 90% of them are adequately telegraphed and take practice to block, dodge or interrupt, but this trait covers that other 10%, and the last second stability is a moment of relaxation when someone is trying to de-bunk you.
The extra healing power and toughness are welcomed with open arms, but spiked armor, defy pain and armored attack just don’t outweigh the synergy that investing the 10 points else where that could top off this tree provide for the build. But Vigorous Return is picked up for key play in those team fights when it counts, and having Thick Skin doesn’t hurt.
Basic Weapon Application: Mace/Warhorn is outstanding at countering meta builds. The main idea is to keep auto attacking, dodging and keeping vigor up until your weapon swap pops. These two things will perma weakness up on your target which counters their would be perma vigor. The middle three skills are purely situational. I only use Counter Blow to block key knock backs so that they are still set on full cd (interrupting does not set most cc skills on full cd), and then use Pommel Bash as needed to interrupt the rest of them. Charge is used to remove the additional CCs and gain condi removal as needed, but I try not to waste it on things such as 1s of burning or cripple when on point. Try not to use this in succession with a heal as it would be a waste of Restorative Strength. Speaking of the strength tree, on weapon swap that 15% condi duration when auto attacking with rifle 8 stacks of bleeds and instinct will make them blow a condi removal. But I usually use a basic weapon swap rotation just as internal weaponswap cd is coming off and making sure the enemy doesn’t have stability, I start with a skull crack into a weaponswap to rifle butting them off point and aimed shot to delay them getting back, immediately after this I start banner swapping to regain full adrenaline, by the time you do this, dodge an incoming cc or squeeze in a Compassionate Banner, weapon swap is back up and you get to start all over again! This is only a basic rotation, but it’s a good place to start.
Basic Utility Application:
I always have the banner out for pregame buffs, personally I start stacking regen immedately with Compassionate Banner, then use Call to Arms followed by Charge and Inspire. For the rest of the utilities I try not to blow them in succession. You have up to 5 condi clears on warhorn, so I use those first. I find regen and Adrenal Health can out heal basic condi application, so don’t rush to clear them. For basic use I use mending as soon as I hit a threshold where I get the full heal and clear up to 5 conditions, save Shake it Off as a stun break and look at the condi removal as a side bonus unless you have an unusually high stack of bleeds or long burning duration which is usually kept at bay by the warhorn, then when condis come in really heavy, Signet of Stamina’s active does wonders to your survivability.
As a preface, this build is designed for the current meta in competitive 5v5 tPvP.
TL;WR: This is a bunker build with perma aoe regen, vigor and swiftness, 3.1k armor, 1.5k healing power, up to 12x condi clear, 1 full condi clear, 21k health, 4 knock backs and can go toe-to-toe with meta bunker builds.

Build Discussion:
For this build, banners are under appreciated, even when traited. Thanks to inspiring battle standard they give everyone near you perma regeneration and it stacks considerably. In addition it provides you with a 1k aoe heal every 10 seconds, those five points picked up in the discipline line mean that you can repetitively pick up and drop the banner to rapidly gain full adrenaline, which synergises with Adrenal Health, is a nice addition to regen’s heal over time. And then there is adrenaline to endurance regen from the strength tree, but we’ll get there. To top it off adept trait on the banner cd gives you a 100% uptime on the banner and all the bonuses it gives you (Side note: Fast Hands is a trait that is counter intuitive to pick up when banner swapping as it resets your internal weapon swap cd).
Quick breathing on Charge is another under appreciated part of this build. In addition to perma aoe swiftness, the condi clears are phenomenal. Popping Charge in battle before using other aoe condi removal is key to survival.
Yendorion – that was weapon swapping while in DS, I am taking about having DS count as a weapon swap
Lingustically Inept, would you mind checking one and telling me which? haha and of course I check in combat – if it was popping on DS I wouldn’t have made the post.
Although DS can be considered a transformation, not a weapon set, DS is our profession skill and there are other profession skills that pop procs. Why belittle necro? Ele and Engi get procs on profession weapon swaps, so why not consider that necro should as well.
My interest lies more along the lines of either leaching, dodge regeneration or might stacking, say every time you pop out of ds it counts as a weapon swap. It’s quite common to see an engi running around with say 25 stacks of might, or an ele using intelligence to get more burst when it counts, why not open more doors to build variety.
Which sigil are you using? – I haven’t had the same results but am willing to try yours if you say its procing
This would not affect the cooldown of your normal weapon swap, but rather, simply count DS as a weapon swap in the engine for sigil procs.
Weapon swapping is a very interesting aspect for sPvP, PvE and WvW alike, and it would be a change that is not op and is already seen in many other classes (for example engi utils count as weapon swap, ele attunments count as weapon swap). DS is perfect w/ its internal cd and would also prevent swap spamming.
Its a small change that wont drastically affect everyone, but the pop on weaponswap can actually create viability with some new builds I have been experimenting with.

With the onset of spvp arenas, what is the interest in competitive teams exploring a community run e-sports like league system.
Details can be written, but its more of the concept that a team based league could be created and teams would be rated as a group, rather then individuals.
Naturally nothing is finalized without word from Arena Net, but Dev Acknowledgement
This is an opportunity for the sPvP community to create something that can potentially serve as a proof of concept for formal e-sports leagues as an invitation for them to start exploring opportunities in Guild Wars 2. I implore all who are interested and the top 50 on the qual-points leaderboard (EU and NA) to consider looking into something along these lines.

Gets rid of that “that’s not how my character actually looks” conversation when introducing someone to sPvP.
Personally, I think its an outstanding mechanic to not trigger on downed players. Think about it like this -
It gives the necro incredible control in 2v2 scenarios where dropping a reapers mark on the downed player is the difference between the opponent ress-ing, turning a 2v1 back into a 2v2.
If triggered it would only fear the downed player.
Now compared to triggering on an attempted res, which has now been prevented – a shroud stomp finish seals the deal – it becomes the deciding factor in turning a 2v1 into a 2vNone.
Will tickets will have a future value beyond exchanging for chests in this upcoming patch?
The reason for this question:
If they may hold a future use outside of the incoming patches chests I would rather save them then exchange them for the current set of tournament chests.
(Aside: The exchange is absolutely better then nothing, don’t get me wrong.
I also whole heartedly support the change in format to all free tourneys.)
For many this is a great exchange! But for many others, we currently have stacks of chests in my inventory unopened. As I currently have my desired set of gear for my characters in sPvP. The current difference is a stack of tickets or more stacks of chests.
There has been a note about qual points being used in the future, I’m not asking if paid tournaments may be reinstated, rather if tickets still have value, or will we be using another form of “currency”, if one is implemented at all.

I’m looking to see if anyone can recommend any approaches when attempting to 1v1 a skilled mesmer.
Currently I am very comfortable with 1v1s in sPvP with the sole exception of skilled mesmers. I have enumerated some approaches I have taken trying to 1v1 skilled mesmers specifically. Note that I main a thief and am not going to call mesmers OP in this thread.
Builds I have tried multiple times thus far (always targeting the real one before engaging): balanced, backstab, glass cannon, p/p burst, pistol whip, full vit and toughness.
As for my current build: I have a vit/tough and stealth->crit build with d/d and sb. Very solid damage output, high survivability and no cd phase as I use them in a rotation.
Atm in tournament play I will run towards the nearest player on my team as that is my temporary avoidance of the situation, but I don’t see this as a solution. I don’t feel that I am being out skilled most of the time, but rather not approaching mesmers properly.
Anet has said when you find something you’re struggling with look for a counter:)
