my cpu temps idle at around 45 degrees celsius and usually between 70-90 when i play gw2.

I have looked at that other users problem seems similar I’m gunna follow it.

Hi, when I first played GW2 I didn’t get this problem; I have been experiencing frequent fps drops from 40-50 to 10-15 these drops last for like 1-2 secs but are very frequent and annoying and makes me not want to play.

My “rig”:

8GB ram
Nvidia gt525m (yes it’s a laptop)
i7 2670QM

I have done a bit of tweaking as per the thread in this forum for my Nvidia graphics chip and problems are still occurring.

Does anyone else have this fps problem or is it just lag? I play xbox live and doen’t get lag so that’s why I think it is possibly a hardware problem, even though the laptop is about 7 months old.

Have not checked what FPS I get, will see when i get back home from work.
EDIT: How do you check for the FPS in the game btw? Just a /fps?

Go into game options and down the bottom right hand corner of them graphic options it will state FPS and a number. That is how you check my friend.

I ripped out a CD/DVD drive from an old computer, had to cut the connecting cords could I reuse that if so does what ever it connect to come with the cords or do they usually come with the CD/DVD drive?

i5 is the minimum for GW2, If I were you try and get a quad core or hex core makes life so much easier.

FPS: 50-60 on high/medium settings. I usually turn off anti-aliasing and post-processing since I don’t really care for them.

Agreed, post-processing is something I really dislike. For me it makes the game look more like a movie than a game, and AA is always off, it takes way too much memory from my 1GB gt525m.

Game consistently runs north of 130 fps, I always have max graphics/resolution on. Some frame tear on the character generation screen, oddly enough – due to a compatibility issue b/w GW2 and the Nvidia 680 drivers apparently – no other problems in-game, so I haven’t bothered to switch to the newer drivers, which are still beta.

Nice rig. I use the native resolution as well, I have to say I am happy with my GPU (Gt525m) and CPU (i7 2670QM) and the way they’re handling it but if they could improve performance for the Nvidia drivers I would be grateful.

I run everything on max except for Native sampling instead of supersample. I’ve never seen it drop below 35 no matter where I was or how many spells were going off at once.

I use native sample as well, there wasn’t any point using supersample. It makes the game look a bit getter but isn’t worth dropping FPS for it.

Nice to see some people using laptops like me lol.

So wish I could change the GPU not just for GW2 but for more GPU based games, But the sad reality is I can’t without replacing the whole motherboard which is like as much as the laptop was bought for originally :/

Reflections is off cause it’s pointless anyway I think.

Actually guys, for the i7s, those are normal temperatures. Every i7 machine i have runs in those ranges with stock cooling and air flow. Desktop, laptop, etc. Lowest ive seen mine every go was 48 on my laptop. When gaming on my Desktop or Laptop, it goes to 75+ usually 80+. Also for laptops, as long as its not over 100C they are fine. Laptops get hotter than desktops due to space constraints, even with proper cooling.

My desktop is currently idling at 53, on a cold morning, completely open, and properly ventilated. I even changed the Thermal on it 2 weeks ago. The old one had cracked and i was getting 70 idle, and 90 gaming. those are high.

Yer, mines idling right now at 47C 45 mins after GW2 sesh. Annoying thing though where my left hand sits whilst controlling the WASD buttons it gets really hot, must be where the motherboard is?

52c for an idle computer is not to good. Clean the vents and make sure your not suffocating the air vents.

But 52C is ten mins after playing GW2 with some high setting for 2 hours straight. I wouldn’t consider my laptop to be in idle mode ten mins after a GW2 sesh.

I run on ‘Auto Detect’ settings at 1920×1080 and probably average around 40 fps or so with some slowdown in areas.
However, my CPU is routinely at 60%+ capacity just running the game.

Wow can’t believe your CPU can handle it, I don’t use auto detect I have max in animations, texture, environment and override for the best texture appearance and have stuff like depth blur and vert sync and AA off and shaders on low and that basically get me 55-60 fps n average.

It was an estimate to be honest…I have been off GW2 now for ten mins and its 52C (all cores).

It would be interesting to know what people are using in terms of specs (basic):

PC/Laptop: Laptop

CPU: i7 2670QM

GPU: Nvidia GT525m

RAM: 8GB

FPS: 45-80

I run GW2 on my Dell Laptop here are the specs:

i7 2670QM
8GB RAM
GT525m
1368×768

I have everything on high except AA, depth blur, vert sync, shadows(medium), shaders (low) are on off or as in (brackets). And I get between 45 – 80 fps depending on environment and how close I am zoomed in or out.

Is there any applications or anything to improve performance, I am happy with how the laptop handles it cause it only cost $680 brand new, Lemme know if there is any tips and I can do to boost performance without blowing my laptop up.

P.S after like 2 hours of playing CPU gets really hot like almost 80 degrees Celsius but this is normal right?

What do you mean? I have an adsl splitter thingy where a dsl cord from the phone and from the modem plug into then that goes into the wall…that’s how it’s supposed to be setup I’m pretty sure…I do have a live connection it just cuts out with heavy bandwidth and I need to stop it.

I wouldn’t say it was the best profession but it was pretty fun to play when I gave it a go.

yer there is a dsl filter splitter what im gunna do is replace all the dsl leads and the filter/splitter to see if that fixes it up, and the modem/router isn’t isp owned it a 160$ one from netgear for gaming lol.

yes its adsl and there is no phone noises and we have already checked with our isp and they said everything is fine their end.

Tried with two others a netcomm modem and another netgear and same thing happens plus this modem/router is brand new.

type in “304.79 beta nvidia download” on google and it will come up.

I have the gt525m and i have updated this way^^^ to get the 304.79 driver.

I currently use the modem/router Netgear DGN2200 N300 and I get disconnected quite often when on youtube or GW2 but not if I am just browsing the net? When I look at the router it’s adsl light is flashing green (when I am disconnected) and the internet light goes off and then after 25-30 secs in comes back on, but then it goes back off in another few mins.

What is wrong with my router do I have to configure it or should it just work?

I have port forwarded all the right ports but its not just gw2 making it disconnect its youtube and other high download applications thanks please suggest and advice about configurating my router properly!

Thanks people btw I am level 9 now haha. No its not like I am bad at this game…I have tried out a few other professions like necromancer and guardian and the engineer, and found the necro to be really fun just didn’t have great damage. In the options menu which boxes should I tick for auto targetting and all the other boxes? and I find it hard to turn quickly can I adjust the sensitivity? thanks anyways.

Currently I have a Norn Warrior and when it came to the story mission : Echoes of the past, where you have to vs the Elder Thruln, I really struggled with killing him without going down. I went down twice and then click restart from checkpoint and that was the only way I killed him when he had less health.

I use a greatsword simply because most of the other weapons have skills with stun and immobilizing and I simply don’t get how they fit in with a Warrior as you have to be right next to the enemies to attack them. I get hit a lot against enemies and how do I stop this am I doing something wrong, for example I was a level 7 vsing 2 white moas (level 7) with a greatssword and they almost down me, Is this normal?

GW2 is a great game, I just need a bit of a guide to help me with the warrior because I am almost dying everytime I fight. Is this the right profession for me? I would like to be a bit more of a tanker.
