Rangers and Weapon Swapping (PvE)

in Ranger

Just wanted to start a discussion about some things I have noticed within the trait lines.

What I currently am running is something like this:

http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=VK;4wEkx-g2oDV-0;9k8;2YZb;0247036157;9;1zxrUzxrUm-FvN435;2VOVTWYXcYi3o4230C-2i;5cW5PcW5PH

Now, pre-patch, it was pretty common for Rangers to run LB/ Sword and Axe as their weapons. Basic rotation (omitting utilities for sake of length) Would be to pop barrage, rapid fire, swap weapons, path of scars, go to town with sword AA. With this, the ranger never swapped back to LB as it was considered a DPS loss.

With the changes post patch, our ability to gain swiftness and fury upon weapon swap got me to thinking. The grandmaster trait Remorseless goes hand in hand very well with Skirmishing’s Furious Grip minor. Fury is easily gained (given someone else in your party does not have provide it as well, if so that is even greater). What’s more, you also cast Call of the Wild upon pet swap via the BM traits, granting more fury, proccing more opening strikes, which is a guaranteed crit and 5 stacks of vulnerability.

Basically what I am proposing is that more weapon swap = consistent fury = consistent vulnerability. With that in mind, more weapon swap = more Quickdraw. So given the state of the traits currently are Rangers better off running GS/ Sword and Axe, proccing more quickdrawn Path of Scars and Maul respectively? Or any other secondary weapon for that fact. Would you still even consider staying with LB and quickdrawing Rapid Fire?

Just some food for thought. Feel free to express your thoughts, concerns, and ideas.

Post-Patch Dungeon Builds?

Thanks for the input guys. I know engi’s have one of the more complex rotations, but with the addition of mortar has anyone really thought of how to incorporate it? Is orbital strike all that will be used, or will you main it? Guess everyone is on a new learning curve.

Post-Patch Dungeon Builds?

Has anyone really theorycrafted some dungeon builds for the engineer yet? Just curious, I am coming off of a very long break from the game and have a variety of 80s to work with. Just trying to get up to speed.

It's been quite some time....

Thank you much for your input. Ahhhh, the Queensdale train… I remember those days. Glad to know they nerfed it.

Is it all that difficult to find guilds? That really was the main issue I had. I’m a chatty person as it is, and it was quite boring being alone.

It has been quite a while since I have visited the game (as evident of my 75000 files I have to download to launch the game again).

I saw the trailer for the new expansion and thought, huh, that seems kind of interesting.

The main reason I left was due to my guild folding up and I could not find a group that I gelled with very well. I was also more of a PvE junkie (I was your typical WoW fanatic at one point) and felt a little underwhelmed by the content. I pretty much power leveled my way to 80 on all my characters and tried to focus on “endgame” when there really wasn’t one.

Now that this game has caught my attention I have considered coming back and starting a fresh character and ACTUALLY taking my time leveling. Is it worth it? How is the game doing? Is the community still as cordial as it was?

This is just some of the things I am asking my self as I consider coming back. Please feel free to post your thoughts and insights.

Returning from a break, LF Dungeon Guild

in Looking for...

Hi all, returning from a short (about 2 months) break. I am teacher/football coach which results in my short break. I am looking for a semi-hardcore PvE guild. I am a dungeon junky (I enjoy working with other people to accomplish something), I am obsessed with cosmetics (no gear treadmill means I gotta have something to work for), and I enjoy the occasional WvW and PvP on this side.
I also enjoy guild missions and obtaining guild comms.

What I offer:
Warr/Mes/Guard zerked out and exo’d out. (I would say I enjoy the Mes/Warr the most, though I probably have more hours on the guard. I will fill whichever role is needed generally though).
Ranger/Engi fully geared as well (Ranger was my first love by I DESPISE sword main hand for them)
Experience in most dungeons and game saavy when I am not.

What I need:
Nothing too time contingent, I still have my life and things do come up. There may be nights I do not get on. I am Central standard time (Texas) so a guild in the same or eastern time zone would benefit me most, and especially a guild who is on it’s peak hours in the evening.
Some refinement in dungeon speed runs due to my short break (most my builds are up to date, but I am always willing to take some constructive criticism).
I will rep 100% of the time if needed.
I have access to TS3/Raidcall/most other voip

Please feel free to respond on here or pm me in game at kingjohn.7184, I should be on tonight (Nov. 13) around 6 p.m. my time, possibly earlier.

Thanks for all considerations in advance and hope to see you in game

*PS- I reside on Blackgate, I MAY be willing to transfer, just depends on the situation.

Question for P/P HgH builds for PvE....

How is the best way to gear? I’ve heard Rabid armor/weapons with berserker’s trinkets works well, but have also seen set ups with an all rabid set up. Any other suggestions or thoughts?

Do whatever you want, the top builds will remain HGH P/P and Grenades, but nothing holds you from doing gadget/turret based builds with any weapon you like as long as you meet some criterias.

If they would fix the bugged turret traits I would love to experiment with some turret builds. Likewise, it would be nice if they strengthened gadgets either passively through traits or actively through the skills I would love to create an “Inspector Gadget” build.

Gear is either crafted/bought on TP, or obtained through tokens via dungeons. Each dungeon has different sets that they offer (unique to them in skins, you can find the same stat on armor from other dungeons, just requires you to run that dungeon). You can also use karma to buy armor from the temples (i.e. Grenth, Balthazaar, Melandru, etc.)

Here is the run down on armor sets:

Berserker’s: Power, Precision, Critical Damage

Rampager’s: Precision, Power, Condition Damage

Shaman’s: Vitality, Condition Damage, Healing Power

Carrion: Condition Damage, Power, Vitality

Rabid: Condition Damage, Precision, Toughness

Cleric’s: Healing Power, Power, Toughness

Knight’s: Toughness, Power, Precision

Soldier’s: Power, Toughness, Vitality

There are more, but these are the major ones you will see majority of the time.

Here what I’ve come up with, something a little different:

http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=VV;4Z;0h0s5V1Fx0;9;4J-TJ-26;247A18;2S;9;2NBlr0;5VW-a0f1kYq3w_6Z-870HV8aNX8a;9;9;9;7kkkkkk;9;15-6H

(May need to copy and paste)

The Traits:

Explosives simply for the increase in range and in damage. Also, essentially being pseudomelee, I love the minor traits here. For as often as I dodge and the potential to take some hits, these prove to be nice catalysts to the movement of the build.

Inventions allow us to convert some of our toughness to raw power, move faster while we are in combat (allows us to reposition quickly), and makes our bombs rain on our party (elixir infused bombs).

I choose alchemy for a more support type role in my party, honestly you can take these 20 points and use them to your liking. I chose alchemy for fast acting elixirs so I can spam elixir B as often as I can and backpack regenerator for being pseudomelee, but can also be easily subbed for cleansing formula 409 when the situation arises.

Play style is simple: drop bombs. On a serious note though, here is how I would start a fight:

1. Drink Elixir B, then drop bombs #4 and #5 (smoke and glue)

2. Dodge out (creating a bomb where you dodged FROM), TOSS elixir B

3 Close range, drop bombs #2 and #3 (fire and concussion), spam #1, rinse and repeat.

Things to remember:
Only use big ol’ bomb if it is warranted. The knockback can hurt the group at times by spreading the mobs out, which can cause a multitude of problems.

Never forget to toss elixir R when needed (possible game changer).

Drink elixir B as often as you can.

Never stand still, running circles around perimeter is usually the best way to go.

DODGE DODGE DODGE!!!

Any viable PvE builds?

Reposted. Now looking for any viable PvE build. I know of P/P HGH builds, and I’m not against that, but what other options are there. Are there any power builds, or is grenadier about it? Just posing some questions, thanks for all replies ahead of time.

Just fishing for some information. Getting into engi’s for PvE at the moment. I would LIKE a good Elixir Gun build, but any other PvE suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

P.S. Been away from the game for a period of time, so if my want for elixir gun is out of date, please state why and hopefully suggest something else.
