For me, it’s just different and I’m not as comfortable as land combat. That’s why I avoid it as much as possible. Having to swim to surface when I’m down is something that I dislike as well. I do it though as sometimes underwater combat is unavoidable. I prefer the trident over the spear. It suits my playing style more.
Even if I die a decent number of times, I keep coming back.
Nothing beats the satisfaction in seeing the enemy running away when I whip out my Spirit Weapons and Dogs (my character is human, elite skill) or they engage and there is more than 1 of them and my tools rally me if I am down and take them in the end.
I tend to lean on the safer side and run with others but I’ve gone out on my own to take Quaggan camps. I just hope that I can flip it fast enough before one of the other teams want it (I avoid underwater combat with other players).
I think I have 6 Mystery tonics sitting in my bank to date. I need more keys to open all the other chests. That’s my problem so far. Too many chests, too little keys.
I like this idea. Half the time when I run to rez someone, they’re gone by the time I get to them and I was only a few steps away. :/
Why do Guardians say they stink when they are a top tier class
in Guardian

Guardian might be good class, but PVE absolutley no fun. Yes the first weeks after playing ele/necro feel good because it’s more powerfull. Then you’ll meet lvl 70-80 monster (Orr Difficulty level) and realize, this doenst cut it, especially with the cooldown nerfs. It’s no fun or reliable to battle strong mobs, with this long cool downs.
Nonsense. I’m able to take on 4-5 mobs with little problem in Cursed Shore with my Guardian.
If you can’t survive as you say, you need to take a serious look at your build.
I agree. Your build might be it. You have to figure out what you want to do and have the build reflect that. I’m able to take even more than 6 mobs and one that’s a Veteran in Orr (it’s to get a Skill Point). Granted I was down near the end but all the tools I have and the utility skills I picked rallied me (Spirit Weapons and the human elite skill). My build, armor and runes are all for condition damage (burning).
I’m a Guardian and I show up in WvW almost every night. There was a point where I feel like I’m not really making a difference and I’m running around with other people randomly, but I’m told later on that just being there and being able to contribute what I do DOES make a difference. I’m set up for condition damage (burning) and I have 2 Spirit Weapons on me that helped me A LOT in WvW when I’m down. They actually helped me rally more than 10 times in the span of a few days by finishing my target for me when I’m down.
I’ve seen my virtues help other allies too. The burn others as well.
I like this idea. I saw this today and was going to suggest having the sword as a skill for #3 when consuming the blue potion (#1 and #2 are poison darts if I remember right): http://i.imgur.com/RwqL5.jpg
Seeing that photo just made me want to play as a Hylek even more.
Anyone remember the island where they were afflicted by disease? It broke my heart when it said that I couldn’t do much for them. Even worse…..when I realized that there are dead corpses of them. T-T I think it was Bloodtide Coast cause I never went back to avoid that island.
Any event with them takes the longest for me to complete. I always rez them and go psycho on the evil NPCs.
It worked yesterday for me as well. I got the Interact [F] message and splat! I landed on top to get the vista.
I’ve been waiting for this one to get fixed. I’ll go back tonight and try this.
It did that to me a few times. If I don’t have anything targeted and something is coming at me, they turn their attention to it. I haven’t had a real problem with that so far because I usually pull them out before starting my attack on NPCs, but I can see how that could be a problem if you brought them out and started to run with them. That’s happened to me before and this is partly the reason why I don’t bring them out in PvE unless I’m about to attack something.
They’ve been good to me in both PvE and WvW since they attack my target even when I’m down and I manage to rally from their kill.
I pretty much always use my racial elite… Hounds of Balthazar. So yeah, I’ve found all the guardian elites I’ve purchased to be pretty lame.
Maybe I’ll like some of the tomes better once I’m doing more grouping / dungeons, but I just get owned whenever I use those in the open world.
I think it would have been nice to see elites related to our weapons…like some really powerful spell you put on your hammer or greatsword for 20 seconds that provides secondary effects to your attacks.
I’ve not used anything else up to this point but the hounds. I just don’t see myself running around with a book in WvW at the moment. I feel defenseless and I see those that use it as an easier target. I may try the Courage one though after reading all the other comments and see if I can rotate with the hounds.
I’ve avoided trying to take out champions on my own, but there’s usually other players around me to play with. And like what kidbs mentioned, not all champions are the same. I have no doubt that a Guardian can do that with time and skill. I just play more erratic than most. I always pull out my Spirit Weapons and dogs (Elite) and they help me out a lot by finishing things even when I’m down (and I rally as a result). Some champions I can take on my own and some I just can’t with the way I play.
Exotic armors and weapons do help even when the player is leveled down in the area. Killing stuff is much easier when I go to lower level areas now.
I pair the torch with the scepter on a cond dmg spec.
I’m using 6 Superior Rune of the Undead, mostly because of the condition damage. Will probably change it up in the future, but not much of a concern at the moment… though while typing this I realize I’m not utilizing it as good as I could be, seeing as I only have about 10 points in toughness. :x
Same as above. I’m set up currently for burning.
It doesn’t matter much when you’re starting. Pick one that you like better on what it gives. I think I did more on what would give me power since I’ll be running around doing things on my own and I want to do more damage.
Want. I spend endless hours helping them even after the mission is completed.
I’m a Guardian and I love doing WvW with my guild or with randoms I encounter along the way. I wouldn’t go out there trying to take on people alone because of how I play, but the things we can do DOES make a difference out there. I use the Scepter and Sword with Torch for off hand.
With the Scepter, I can chain opponents (#3) for others and/or myself and continue hitting them (#1 or #2 or even #4). Most of the time I chain them for players who are closer to them to finish them off. I can hit opponents from the keep wall (#1 or #2) or from the ground aiming high at the keep wall. I have 2 Spirit Weapons on me that helped me out quite a bit lately by destroying the enemy when I’m down so I can rally.
I use the Sword as a mix for closer combat or when all of the Scepter abilities are pretty much on CD. I’m spec’d for burning.
I salvage white, blue and greens with the Fine and yellow with I think the Journey. I’ve sold the crafting materials I get on the TP when the price is right. At one point, I did end up selling some stuff to the Merchant. Inventory fills up pretty fast. If I don’t have a salvage kit on me and there’s a Merchant, off it goes.
I went back twice the past few days and get the same content is temporarily disabled message as others did.
I like the scepter but wish it has a longer range. It’s the only reason I have it equipped over the staff for WvW. I pair it with the torch.
Have you considered the torch instead? I’ve used all 3 and like the torch better for both solo and group stuff. I’ve used focus up to maybe level 20 then switched to the shield until I got a chance to swap it out with a torch. Never looked back. It works for me on my playing style at the moment.
I’m currently debating swapping it out though just to revisit what might be better for WvW.
Btw dont trust that myth “Guardian with staff can fix it casting a wall spell on top of it” just wasted my time with a guardian friend going into every SP and walling them and guess what…
we got rick rolled… hard.
I’ve helped others get it for the one in Straits of Devastation about a week ago. I was hoping it’ll be fixed by now.
Diessa Plateau cow catapult to get to skill point was broken still as of last night. It said that it’s unavailable.
If you encounter a Guardian with a staff, they can trigger it to have the Talk option enabled. I did this for about 4 groups yesterday when I was in the area. I hope they fix this bug soon so that this wouldn’t be the only option to finish this Skill Challenge.
I did this on Jade Quarry yesterday for those that came along and couldn’t trigger it. Did it for 4 groups until there was a lull. Hope they fix it soon for good.
I’ll have to try this in a few hours. I hope they fix it soon for non-Guardians though (good thing I am one). Thanks!
I encountered the same issue yesterday and came here to check if there is a thread on this!
