64-bit Client Beta FAQ

kokabel.5728

Downloaded fine and worked fine, until I actually tried to play a little. Within 10 minutes my machine was giving me warnings about using up all the memory – not a crash like with the 32bit client, just a friendly warning of “stuff gonna be shut down real soon”. I’m on 8gb, and while I appreciate some of that goes towards running the OS etc, the 64bit client was eating up every single last bit of RAM that was available to it, really really fast.

Perhaps it is just a different manifestation of the memory leak problem? Kinda sucks. 32bit client still crashes out the end of most big meta events, making it real difficult to even want to play them.

Game crashes every 20-30 mins, sometimes less. Crashes both in core and HoT maps, and has only been doing it since launch. Has gotten worse and more frequent since the last patch.

Same issue. Lasting approx 30 mins before crashing out though. This has only been since launch, and is the same sort of crash I sometimes get once or twice after other big patches.

Guesting is Coming

Seems there’s been a lack of proper transparency.

If the issue is the data-centres, ArenaNet must have known this to be the case for a good while, and have neglected to let the community know. There are guilds split over different regions purely because they expected cross-region guesting functionality. Before game release, it was never specifically said that there would never be cross-region guesting, people were left to assume it would magically appear at some point. I understand the technical limitations, but you should have been clear about them from the get go – people would be less upset.

Plus the GW1 community has come to expect cross-region functionality – it was one of the things that made GW1 so great (either through International Districts, and eventually through easy-as-pie district hopping). This seems like a huge leap backwards, and I’m disappointed that no one seems to want to at least create some sort of workaround – international guesting server is an idea I’ve seen bounced around that may actually be feasible. You’re a modern company, surely you understand that people have friends all across the world, and region-barriers are the domain of the old-school MMO?

Much sadness here, and from the community overall. This is a real blow to an otherwise excellent game.

In my opinion, portal is ruining the game

The point that was raised that I think was the most fair is that no other class can really do anything similar, so the Mesmer has become something people specifically want over other classes – which goes against the whole design philosophy, I believe.

Perhaps a quick fix could be that the Portal can only move a set number of people (say 5), after those first 5 charges are used up by the first 5 people who get into range and travel, the portal shuts down. The problem is not so much in the mechanic of the skill, but in the numbers of the skill – there ought to be a reasonable limit on how many can rush through one portal. One mesmer ought not be able to move entire zergs up into an otherwise protected area. The current timing limit doesn’t really do much, clearly.

Oh, somehow missed the post suggesting the same thing. My browser is being funny, sorry!
