@Drarnor Kunoram.5180 I still don’t like underwater battle so I rather avoid it XD
@Ravezaar.4951 haha yeah if they have your fear and you have no life force you will be dead very fast :P
As you could see I use some different utilities vs thief’s for stun break and getting them away from me with spectral wall.
@Drarnor Kunoram.5180
I see it tyvm
now I need to find a good key to bind and get used to it XD
about the swimming down part pls xD I don’t know how fast I want to get out of the water in wvw I really do not like water at all xD
@Drarnor Kunoram.5180 It is not ingame settings right? I looked trhere but could not find an option.
@Flumek.9043 I don’t know the exact same amount but in OS it was the same rule as in sPvP so 20% then sure also good :P because when I had small amount of lf I can use my fear chain a bit better than with 0% lf.
But in WvW Obsidian Sanctum (but in WvW roaming go all the way to 100% xD) 50% is too high in my opinion I still remember when anet added an arena in OS. And every necro there started with 100% lf (at the start when anet added the arena).
Even with higher stats etc 50% is too high so I would say the same rule as in spvp should be good in OS too. And of course you yourself can decide to play with or without food buff. I stopped playing with food because I’m saving money for expansion xD You know new class needs some gold too :P (armor weapons etc).
But 1 thing is sure after playing 0% lf I really starting to appreciate the staff 1 skill. Don’t know if with an condi built will benefit from staff 1 because my dmg is around 1k (but to built up lf it is amazing).
@ Cagbyrn Yep at some classes I had to adjust the utility to compensate the lack of LF.
And as for the thief burst I agree that was also the reason why I start with LF before a duel. But after playing necromancer almost everyday I wanted to try 0% lf it is a lot harder to play but definitely fun. As for roaming I always stack 100% lf XD you never know who want to jump on you while roaming.
@Flow Thanks for the detailed awnser and tip Aflow :P You are one of my Necromancer Trainers ingame!! but you know that already ^^.
Aflow the camera tip is amazing but to be honest it is kinda a automatic thing after doing that for so long and it will take a lot of effort to force me to place the mouse at the enemy xD but indeed amazing tip. (the memory is kinda built in my hand it will automatically go to my character instead of enemy even though my brain tells me to place it at the enemy :P).
As for the camera angle I’m wondering is there a key that I can pres so that the camera turn 180 degree? So 1 push on button instant camera turn?
Last night I got trapped in a guardian’s Hammer 5 bubble. I activated Necrotic Traversal to get out (he was trying to stall me so his teammate could deccap our point), but instead of teleporting to my Flesh Wurm, I only went as far as the edge of the bubble and then got knocked down!
I knew that Flesh Wurm was a very limited teleport compared to some of the thief and mesmer ones, and I’m OK with the fact that necros are deliberately designed to have less mobility than such classes, but a teleport skill that doesn’t even let you escape situations like that… Surely, SURELY that has to be unintentional? It’s the entire point of the skill, it CANNOT be working as intended!
I have tested both Flesh Wurm and Spectral Walk and you will be ported back to the wurm. The only thing is that you still get an interrupt after porting out but that is all. So II think your wurm was too far away.
In sPvP I’m so scared now
I really want to use GS for my necromancer. And use my Sunrise skin but I’m scared QQ now when we play the other team will say Focus necromancer!!! But when we have 2 necro’s they will say wich one in TS. I’m scared that they now focus Necromancer with Sunrise skin. So they will yell in teamspeak “Focus Necromancer!!! The one with Legendaryyyy kill ittttt”. So I’m kinda happy with GS but on the other hand……..
Hello Hello VGRyusai here
When I first started with my necromancer I always started fights in WvW 1 vs 1 (Obsidian Sanctum) with 100% Life Force. After a while I heard that the rule was to start at 25% LF so after I got better I went to 25% lf. (Yes even with condition I started with 100%).
After a while and a lot of sPvP’ing I started to know my necromancer class a lot more I switched from condition to a power build.
I had a lot of fun playing with 0% LF and now I don’t even know why we even start with 25% LF to be honest it is a lot of fun to start at 0% LF you learn how to use your skills better and you keep an eye on your LF pool.
The build I use:
Here is the Montage:
http://youtu.be/sTgASRueLnY?list=UUV4ccZPq3QO9v7B66EJscCQ
Yes I know I did made some mistakes but during battle you forget to watch your enemy’s boon and kinda focus more on your life force pool :P
Have you dueled with 0% lf? Tell me what you think about starting with 0% lf (also tell me condi or power) in WvW dueling or even in sPvP 1 vs 1 dueling.
If you have not tried it I highly recommend it. Also in the video you see that most of the players I fight had no food buff. Fighting a player with food buff will be very hard to fight because they can burst you in a few seconds like the thief in the end of the video. (Fun fact the thief at the end won 2 of the 3 fights). If they have foodbuff on I recommend using some toughness food.
But what I really want to know is what do you guys think about starting with 0% lf as a power or condition necromancer?
PS: Any feedback is appreciated ^^ or if you have some questions feel free to ask.
You may want to ask a friend to help you with 1 vs 1 duels to improve your gameplay and to tweak things around.
See what works best for you! Change utilities test it out in a 1 vs 1 situation (someone you know that is good with a certain class).
Look at how you get downed that fast and what you could do better.
But the most important is to change the build you had to your own playstyle! Lack mobility? lack some escape option? try different utilities to balance the things you lack.
As for weapons I can’t suggest you any weapons because one person likes warhorn over dagger or visa versa.
So in terms of which weapon you should use depends on what you prefer. I use D/D and staff but these weapon set will not appeal to others it they can’t play with it because it does not fit in their play style.
@unlucky as a power necromancer meh… But as a condition/ terror necromancer HELL YEAH! :P
Rules like “not going for Svanir” are primitive…especially if you are in an organized group communicating.
The buff is actually meaningful, so as long as you coordinate killing it without exposing your team to being short-handed, it can be a viable strategy and add a significant advantage in team fights.
You received some good advice for necro related things, but I’ll mention a couple strategy things.
You could have easily stomped that ranger at home and not been subsequently killed by the guardian. Your health was low, but you had plenty of LF and you just needed to get away from the pet hitting you. Just dropping down a little bit would have created a z-axis where the pet couldn’t keep hitting you.
After killing 2 guys at far, you decide to go check out far and quickly found that it was a bad idea. Here’s a strategy awareness tip….if you just stomped people, realize that they will be rezzing soon and thus, be near their home/your far. Thus, you can save yourself “wondering” if far is an attractive target and not waste time off a node.
A couple seconds more and you could have been jumped by those 2 guys…stomped…which gives them 5 pts and also greater alive numbers on the map to decap your teams points. Some games, it comes down to something as simple as that mistake costing you the match.
Thank you for the detailed explanation. Off course after watching the video myself I was like that is not smart to do XD
But I decided to make this video to show you all uncut so that more and exciting pvpers can judge and learn from it. Also the main goal for posting on this forum was to get tips and advice from the other necromancer community
Thank you all for the advice for improving my gameplay.
I find it important to show the new players my point of view uncut. I know that every mistake I made in that video will be judged but that did not withhold me from posting it on the forum.
My goal is to improve myself as a yolo Q player. and to help new pvpers to learn sPvP instead of only making a montage and show the best part out of xxxx videos where you show that your build is amazing and can’t be killed with a 1 vs x situation.
We need to show others that in reality you need to face the problems and mistakes you make and therefore looking at a complete uncut and unedited video can improve myself and others in sPvP.
So really thank you all for commenting giving me tips and advice. I hoped that not only I but also other players has improved thier sPvP experience.
Also I want to thank Helseth (TheLordHelseth on twitch). For supporting, Hosting me and complementing me on my Twitch livestreams on my VGRyusai channel ^^ It really helped me to get out of my comfort zone as an introvert.
A compliment from an ESL player is always welcome but I would probably will not got any attention from Helseth if I did not show good gameplay live on twitch to helseth and his followers
and ofcourse my gameplay improved tremendously after posting the video on YouTube and the forum.
I will do my best to upload more sPvP videos to improve the PvP community and also to improve myself and the Necromancer community.
And again thank you all for commenting if my new videos are up I will make sure to post it here (videos that I post in the forum will only be guides and tips so no montage a montage will be uploaded to my channel but not on the forum). My goal is to help other forum members with tips and not showing them the best gameplay ever made in a montage.
Thank you all for your support etc. and make sure to keep the tips and tricks going! Also if you get frustrated because a new player did not know what to do please give me your tips and advice so I can make a beginners guide with commentary.

Anyway this all depends on the situation you are in and what team you are facing. Therefore we can discuss as long as we want why it is good or not good to kill svanir in solo Q. There is nothing much to discus what to do or not to do with the boss kill since this depends on a lot of more factor than just 1 thing. If you are in a Team and using Teamspeak then you can adapt to the strategy of the enemy you are facing.
So to avoid a long discussion since their is nothing much to discuss on boss kill since this all depends on the situation teams you are facing etc. (at least that is what I found).
- i know it wasnt you but DONT. GO. FOR. SVANIR. AT. START……..EVER…. im not joking but you shouldve called the engie an idiot for that and tell him to never do it again. I cant sugar coat it – its a huge beginner mistake, meganoob move
uh oh, I’m afraid to ask, but why shouldnt you go for svanir?
signed, meganoob.
You are either leaving one of your nodes outnumbered or run the risk of the opposing team “stealing” svanir typically with a theif. It’s better to take the node win the team fights and then if you wipe the opposing team it gives you a little window to take out the bosses if you feel like it.
*yay I’m unbanned lol.
Well for now I experienced that it totally depends on your team xD when solo Q
If 2 of them attack svanir I ain’t going solo at mid and die so in that case I will help kill it instead of rushing solo XD
But all depends on your team and the situation
(at least for solo q if you have a complete party I guess its better to discuss strategy with party).
Np i find it amazing for me. When you channel 2 dont rotate the camera with the mouse and move because if the target runs behind you, it will break the channel if u dont follow him. Compared to standing still, where you will automatically follow the target even if he runs behind you. When you auto jst try to stay at 600 range. For me i consider it my more defensive weapon for i use bloodlust on them and sigil of energy.
Thanks for the information. I did not like the axe and therefore I will stop playing with it for now. But Thank you all for the awesome feedback I really appreciate it.
@mystogan I will try axe again but if I don’t like it I probably will not play it even if it is effective :P if it just don’t fit my play style then it has no use for me to play with it because I don’t like it XD (same with warhorn)
But thanks for the tips will definitely try them out.
@ Flumek
keep my calm because I was one of the players that got flamed a lot when I started PvP in the beginning when GW2 was released. I ended up not enjoying PvP (but now I almost have no flames and having fun not sure if the new update caused a better and nicer community but the players that gave me tips ingame they helped me a lot in improving and playing sPvP). They wishper me and explained why what I was doing was wrong so I could understand instead of someone whispering FAR FAR FAR you idiot.
@Dranor
Thank you so much for the advice man it helped me tremendously today won 13 sPvP matches and losed 2 with a 470 ish vs 500 points
@imaclown
yeah after playing more I realize the cast time was just very slow and that I spam everything xD so now I know I need to wait till cast is over before pushing 1 or other skill or it wont cast. So I can’t spam 1 and click 5 togheter.
@Mystogan
Thank you I noticed too today that it put me in combat for like 3 ish seconds.
I tried axe but for those thiefs and mesmer there is no way for me to hit them while in stealth and thats the reason why I completely decided not to use any axe even with the vurnability.
I tried warhorn but it really don’t fit my playstyle :P But I noticed that I can’t stomp good and fast enough with warhorn and ended losing a point because my stomp was interrupted and backup came. If there was a way to time my warhorn 4 to prevent enemy from interrupting then I would reconsider again. As for staff guardian interrupts I haven’t though of that but a very very good point
(I will still keep trying warhorn tho but axe is just a no for me atm).
@FLumek
I have looked very closely at your point and saw what you meant today but most points you described was really depending on enemy and situation with the team I was. I mostly solo q so it may be very effective with a complete Team that you pointed out.
Thank you all for your suggestions it really helped me improve a lot

Hi awesome thread for new streamers
I saw some big names on the list but I recently started to play PvP
http://www.twitch.tv/VGRyusai
Necromancer (EU)
@ Roe
I tried Warhorn but for some reason it didn’t fit my playstyle yet. Mayb I need to play is more and get comfortable with it. One of the reason is because most of the time when quing by myself I find a lot of situations where the enemy get ressed because I don’t have stability and no blinds to savely stomp them than with dagger 4 instead of 4 warhorn.
I don’t know if it works can you interrupt the downed enemy interupt with warhorn? (I tried it but I think I can but my warhorn number 4 timing is horrible atm :P). And the number 4 dagger with blinds is not for single target so I don’t get knocked back because his teammate got blinded too.
But I agree the interrupts is awesome but for now it does not fit my playstyle yet but I will definitely play it more thank you for the suggestion.
And after seeing myself in a match I have learned a lot for the things what I should do or should not have done
@Dranor Kunomar
Thank you for the great feedback
I really appreciate it. Yes indeed after seeing myself play I can really see the mistakes I make. For some reason when I try to use my lich form skills they don’t want to activate most of the time. Is it just me? If you see in the video you can see that I pushed the buttons a lot of times and they did’t activate during that match I had that in a lot of matches lately. (I’m a WvW roamer so never really used lich form :P)
@ Flumek
Thank you for the feedback most of the points you pointed out I agree. After seeing myself playing I saw a lot of things that I could do better
For the necro decapping? You mean roaming around and decap? I don’t really have the speed for that and no special skill to close gaps faster.
Most of the matches that I q they force me to stay close the team chat is most of the time silent and based on the situation I decide or even they decide that I stay close and assist mid. So in some situations I rather do the best I can and fill in the empty spot than arguing with other players what they can do best. But if I’m correct the match system has been improved a lot. So as I rank up I think I will get more players that will fullfill the close point so that I can do what is good for this build. But I have a lot of matches to go before getting my rank 80
As for the engi that went for svanir I rather tell him nicely instead of calling him idiot. We all need to learn the game at some points and calling a player an idiot may not be a huge impact for you but some players will stop playing gw2 because of that. So in those cases I rather whisper and explain nicely than going mad and tell him that he is an idiot. But thanks for the advice I really appreciate it.
as for pre placing my marks I I agree with the 2 skill. 3 and 5 will save me a lot of time to fully cap a point and fear and chill the enemy while capping. (But this really depends on the situation). I know they will waste their dodges but sometimes while playing you don’t think before you act :P. But all depends on the situation and the enemy you face.
Yeah after seeing myself play I do saw that I should not have rushed there.
As for that dodging I totally agree
After seeing myself doing that I was like (WHAT ARE YOU DOING XD). My DS 3 was not up in that scenario and therefore I got knocked back and could not activate 2 but off course it started with my mistake by dodging to close the gap.
Hmmm I will definitely try some changes as for now and with the current system and my rank this works the best (since most of the matches I’m kinda forced to fill in the spot that my team did not take for example staying close since most of them ignore the chat and I don’t blame them for having fun instead of getting bashed by a hardcore pvper that failed to get his own team instead of solo qing). If I’m correct the new system balance the players based on rank too not sure.
Thank you all for the feedback I will definitely try them and what my most important goal is to have fun while trying to improve myself
Below text not pointed to you guys (You guys are awesome
for giving me feedback and that shows how awesome the GW2 community is) but for the small community of harsh/mean hardcore PvP players.
PS: For all hardcore PvP players that is harsh to all new players. Please find a team or at least understand that we are playing the game for fun after our work in RL (especially the players that wine in Practive and Unranked matches if you want to win in Ranked get a Team).
(edited by kwstyle.9148)
It depends on what you like to play. If you play for fun go with the build that you enjoy the most
But if you plan to play with your guildies and want to be competitive then you need to talk with your teammates to see what build is good as a team aspect. Sometimes you will be useless if you fight a specific class that completely counters the build you are using in that case you can always ask for a rotation or someone else to fill in your task during the pvp match. (for example they ask you to stay close but the one from the enemy that always goes close counters you very hard with his build then you can ask to switch things up in team chat or Teamspeak).
I’m Ryusai ingame but also known as VGRyusai,
I recently got back in the PvP game mode of GW2 since I have stopped playing for a while. I enjoyed the changes in PvP.
Since I saw a lot of montage of PvP gameplay I decided to create a complete video with my point of view. Since in most montage they only show you the best fights and parts but never really show you a complete match and never explains what they do.
PS: Sorry for my bad English but all that matter is that I had a lot of fun making the commentary video ^^
You can see what I do and what I was thinking in my PvP commentary video:
I played GW2 since release and did not like the PvP mode but after the recent changes I’m starting to like it.
If you have any suggestions or questions feel free to ask. Any feedback would be great in improving my gameplay in PvP.
Since I’m comfortable with D/D and staff i prefer playing it with those weapons set.
The main reason that I enjoy PvP is because I ignore the wanna be pro’s that spam stupid things and yell at everyone at his own team. (and even in a practice match………… If they be like that in practice match like saying f***ing noobs F**got etc.)
Once I ignored those kind of players that are actually destroying the PvP community I enjoyed my matchup in ranked and unranked PvP matches.
PS: If you are guilty of acting like this and you are annoyed that you lose then I would say pls find a team and stop bashing new players that want to try PvP instead of PvE.

I have read the new leaked updates don’t know it is true but I have stopped playing for a while and I play necromancer again. The condition/ terrormancers are getting nerfd but for now everything seems fine to me as a power necromancer but I feel like they are forcing me to play d/d and staff since other weapons are slow. (talking about spvp only haven’t rly roam yet in wvw). So far it is still fun for me but I can’t play with other weapons set because it is just slow or not effective in spvp as a power necromancer.
I haven’t seen it yet thank you for posting.
I need to see if this will have a huge impact of the build that I use seems pretty good so far since i’m using power build.
But for condition necromancers (terror) its a big nerf tho.
What Aplha said just have fun with friends or guildies instead of rushing things then necro’s are fun
It depends on your own play style and what you like the most.
Personally I would switch the warhorn for a dagger. But if you like the warhorn then stick with it.
As for your gear and WvW roaming. You will be doing fine with your gear
You can always change it when you know your class a bit better.
Go for nightmare runes (free but you need to run TA dungeon) and if you don’t want to wait till you have your runes go for the cheap Undead one.
I would recommend:
0/4/4/0/6
II-IX
V-VII
II-IX-X
And if you are comfortable with your necromancer then you can try:
4/6/0/0/4
II-X
II-IX-XII
II-IX
Feel free to change anything to your own play style and how you like it
If you are going for a power build I suggest running 3 stunbreakers with wurm teleport. Spectral Walk for stunbreak and speed Flesh Wurm for port spectral armor for protection and life force to tank more or to escaping for being the target so you can stay alive. But in Spvp it will still depends on what your opponents are and what your team is running. But just make sure you survive every fight and avoid going down. But the downside is going for power means that the current rangers are going to burst you down very fast from range.
Conditions is still good but also for conditions it really depends on the team that you are in and the opponents too.
So I can’t give you a clear answer what you can play but I suggest you to go with the build you like to play and just have fun
