DM maps would not work in my opinion, they would be just a worst version of conquest aoe spam on the points, enforcing even more bunker builds.

I think a map must have objectives besides killing players or it gets boring really fast(for me).

Gw2 Expansion [Disscussion]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’ll start by saying that when I got my toon to lvl 80 and entered the last maps I had no clue about what I should be doing there. Where are the hearts that served as a guide to me? Only events and more events, so many I of them I could not understand what was going on, so I just left and started a new toon. Living Story for me does the same thing, I don’t know what I’m supposed to do, nor where I’m supposed to go, when I got lvl 80 I just felt lost.

I would really like an expansion that would continue the content in a more focused way, instead of these bits we get every once in a while. The expansion should raise the level cap as a way to reintroduce hearts and really continue the Personal Story in a meaningful way. So to answer your questions:

1.1-Raise level cap and bring back hearts so we have a more guided approach to what we should do in the world;

1.2-Introduce new weapons for every class:

1.2.1-One completely new weapon for each class that makes sense for that class weapon types, for example, introduce a spear that warriors and rangers could use, introduce a book that mesmers, necromancers and elementalists could use;

1.2.2-Increase the weapon types that each class can use, for example, necromancers now can use greatsword, guardians can use longbow, elementalists can use swords;

1.3-One new class;

1.4-A new continent, Cantha, Elona, newly discovered continent, maybe even the mists;

1.5-New WvW map with new mechanics on this map only;

1.6-Continue the Personal Story, with more focus on your character so you could care about him (her);

1.7-New PvP maps with new modes, capture the flag, a Dota-like map but instead of towers you could have Guards and your team has to kill those and defend yours until someone kills the last Guard(a Guild Lord);

1.8-New armors and stuff to go along level cap raise;

1.9-Rework class mechanics to bring changes to the roles and how they are played, for example, what is the fun in having that adrenaline skill that you can only use if you are fighting, or a necromancer transformation where it just sits there above your weapon skills bar and you cannot use it until you fill it up a little bit, or the mesmer that has 4 useless skills if there is no illusion in play, this kind of design is anti-fun because you should be able to use whatever skill you have whenever you want to, so I’ll describe how I would change the warrior in the following sub-section:

1.9.1-Make warrior able to use his F1(adrenaline weapon based skill) even if he has not a single point in his adrenaline bar, but make the skill be considerable less effective;

2-PvP maps(not WvW) should always be available even if you don’t buy the expansion. The class reworks should also be given to all players, including the ability to equip weapon types that the class currently can’t, but not the completely new weapon;

3-Basically the rest not mentioned in point 2. Increased level cap, access to new continent, new WvW map, new weapon, new class, new armors and stuff, further progression of Personal Story.

Of course this is just my opinion, feel free to agree or disagree with me.

Aetherblade jumping puzzle, got to the end and …. Surprise!

Thank you Anet, this is the best gift ever, number one reason I pre-ordered the game was the promise of gated content!

Edit: this makes me remember of a particular Korean MMO back in early 2000s where you needed to be lvl 5 to eat an apple…

I’m sorry, my intention was not to stain this post, because I do agree that the content the updates bring are indeed good.

I’m just trying to get some ArenaNet attention back to this issue, because we want to enjoy the game, but we can’t, that’s the problem.

Last night, i and a friend (a friend and i, w/e) were trying tunneling services…
I was trying Ping Zapper, and he wtfast…
Both work pretty well for us, with only one downside in each software:
Ping Zapper: on a trial acc you can play for 1 hour, the get kicked to the caracter selection. But you can reactivate the tunnel and get back in the game in no time
WTFast: 1 month free trial.

For the meantime, while the problem is fixed (anet figure it out what is the problema, aquaman fixes the fiber lines under the ocean or w/e the problem is) this is a nice and easy way to solve the lag issue…

Hope everyone can try those and get some kind of solution

Yes, these services will work for most people, the problem however, is that this issue is almost a month old already, so some of us can say goodbye to WTFast free trial.

If the problem really was this July oceanic cable maintenance then someone told Aquaman the wrong date, because he started to work in June.

I can’t play WvW using any tunneling service (it just disconnects me after 5 minutes) and when I play sPvP, I have to close a “Could not get response from server” message like 10 times, before they just give up and I can finally play.

Edit: @Razor.6392 – there is a way, can’t tell you how though.

If they aren’t going to listen to us, we may need a different approach than just posting here on their forums and sending them support tickets.

Let’s boycott them, no one with the Lag issue buys a single Gem from now on (that is, if you’re still buying Gems even when you cannot play the game)!

Go to the social stuff (facebook, twitter, instagram, anything really) and say that you can’t play a game you’ve paid for because of a problem you cannot solve! Use some kind of harshtag like: #fixtheservers

Let’s show ArenaNet and NcSoft the power of Latin America, spread the message, ask your friends to do this too, doesn’t matter if it’s not in English, just post the tag so we can all unite under the same cause.

If this doesn’t work, it’ll just mean that the people with lag are not that many really.

<sarcasm>Oh so the network guys are saying it’s on our end? They should’ve said it sooner, I’ll just call my ISP and tell them that of all the games I play, things I download, movies I stream and stuff I do on the internet, one game is not working, it’s their fault, I believe it… </sarcasm>

Really? Hire new people to solve the problem if you have to, but don’t just come here saying that is our fault (our ISPs) when the ONLY thing affected is Guild Wars 2!

I’ve played a beta test of FFXIV, BETA TEST, with no lag, and a full released game, GW2, doesn’t work for me, well I guess I’ll be playing something else then, as will most of the people having this lag.

Fire some of the designers and hire more network staff, we don’t need 100 updates in 1 week if we can’t even play the game as it is.

Wish I could tell people the solution I’ve found, but I can’t. So ArenaNet, figure it out and good luck.

Well, how many “nodes” you have don’t really break your connection if they all are working as intended, the problem here is that you could be really close to ArenaNet servers and still have issues, because we’re having packet loss mainly when we get close to them (verizon business- arenanet), they both are on Texas (…)

Do you realize that NA people don’t have any issues? Yeah they don’t have to go through these nodes, figure it out. This forum would be on fire otherwise and they would fix it instantly. And I don’t know what do you want people to say, I’ am like 1 month (previous dragon patch) being unable to play because I just see people warping around.
Cheers.

Not only some US users have this problem, but europeans are experiencing the same kind of issue, it’s kinda a global issue right now, thanks to some mistake ArenaNet made during the last patch or something around this timeline.

To kushiel:
I’m brazilian not american, and am also having the same problem as everyone here.

People on Texas who has to pass through Verizon might be having the same problem we have, but as they are so close to the physical servers, the latency spike can’t really be noticed, as it would probably be like 10ms to 40ms (wich is perfectly playable and you almost can’t spot the difference).

So my guess is, if people on Texas have a little higher latency than what they were used to have, then the problem is tottaly confirmed to be in the link between Verizon and ArenaNet (wich at this point already seems pretty obvious).

ArenaNet probably changed something that is not allowing the Verizon to connect more freely, like Verizon might be on a blacklist of something or whatever, but only ANet can really solve this issue, as it was caused by them.

Kinda off-topic, you should not say too many harsh things about ANet saying that this is probably our ISPs problem, because once one oceanic cable that connected South America to Malasya (and other countries around there) had a problem and our continent could not connect with anything there, so the problem might not always be where you think it is. It’s pretty standar protocol to assume that the people complaining are wrong about some issue, until it gets really massive and then the IT guys finally give up their lazyness and do their work.

Using a tunnel program did the trick only for the pve side of things, as pvp and WvW servers are different. The connection would remain stable during a short period of time (on WvW) and the I would be disconnected, probably some inside ArenaNet routing issue.
I ran all the tests they wanted from me so far and also gave them some more info not asked.
Hope they find a solution soon, but I know it’s a pain in the * to work with network stuff.

Edit: The tunnel program I’m using is also located in Dallas, so you can’t even say that the problem is with our ISP connections – Dallas. When I use the program the latency goes away.

Link to the Aion forum with a post from 2010 with some related issue, note the ip 64.25.32.26 is there and is the responsible for the high latency “* * 64.25.32.26 (64.25.32.26) 31.837 ms” of the user (31ms for him is high because he says he lives in Dallas).
The issue is crearly with NcSoft routes, so we can’t fix it on our side, we need Arena Net to solve the problem (new route, redirection, etc…), so if someone from their support says that your ISP is the problem, you should not accept it and don’t close the ticket as solved.

The problem is on the route our connection is taking, if you use a tunnel the high latency disappears. I’ve checked and the ping start to gets a little higher when you get to some ALTER.NET server that is the last thing before the actual GW2 ip range of 64.xx.xx.x, if you use a tunnel program (or if you could make a route yourself) this ALTER.NET server (wich is not Arena Net) probably gets switched to a better route and thus reducing the latency.
Hope this helps support figure things out, it’s not on Arena Net servers per say, but it’s real close.

But the latency spike really happens when you get to the Arena Net servers.

Edit: included the ALTER.NET name

Same problem here, Brazil (Ceara). Min latency I got from one of the GW2 ips was 240ms, but the server connection was about 400+ms. Can’t enjoy the game as it is.
Also, it’s not a problem on my side, I’ve played other online games with no problem, downloads at max speed, only problem is with GW2 so….

What's the buzz on new professions?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: lanedraex.3691

lanedraex.3691

I really need a new profession, I don’t really enjoy playing any of the current ones, and I made like 2 of each and lvled them to around lvl 20 or so just to give up later. Only thing I could take past lvl 20 was a thief that went up to 40 and now I’m having a little fun with a warrior, but mostly because of how many passive skills they have.

I would like to see some new professions like a duelist wearing light armor and focused on single targets with lots of bleeds, cripples and vulnerability skills that could only equip small weapons except dagger (swords, small bow, axes) with the desing of a very fragile profession, but also very tactical (not a glass cannon), that revolved around getting in and out of combat constantly switching between targets that get too far from their friends (it would be a mix of warrior and thief).

Or a heavy armor spellblade like profession, that uses swords and magic at the same time, capable of enchanting his weapon to apply different conditions (a mix of ele and warrior).

Meta and Creativity

in Suggestions

Posted by: lanedraex.3691

lanedraex.3691

Hello, I’m here to express MY opinion on why the devs should not look to balance things based on the Metagame created by the players. To make things clearer I’ll use two franchises as a base for comparison: Vota and Fancraft, each one representing the different sides of devs and meta. This is also me trying to suggest more creativity from ANet instead of being too crazy about balancing the entire game.

Well, one of my favorite games of all time is Vota, for those who are not familiar with it, please make use of google. As a basic explanation Vota is a PvP game, where you want to win against the opposing team, much like sPvP. Many people will say that the game suffers from a poor balance of each hero(think of them as GW2 professions + each build), because some are overpowered against others, but what this really creates is a kind of “Counter the Counter” style of play, where to win against said op hero you have to choose someone who can counter his strenghts, maybe even coordinate a strategy that involves two or more heroes to take advantage of his weakness. By doing this kind of balance, the Vota dev achieved a game where most of the heroes are really viable and each hero can be played in different ways, each match of Vota can become really unique thanks to this.

The Vota dev said that he doesn’t balance things around the meta and, anyone that have been watching or playing Vota can see how the meta shifts very so often (sometimes it might take a while, but this is kinda of rare) and he once said how balacing around meta can prevent creativity. If you think about it, he’s right in saying this, because if you want perfect balance, then the game would become stagnant very fast and each PvP match would be about who shot the first arrow because of less latency. Perfect balance in games are bad, that’s why random elements(and you’re hearing from a person who really hates random things in games) are essential to every game (you learn this very thing when you start learning about programing games), they make the game more fun and less “perfect”.

You take critical hits for example: if criticals were made that they happen every 1 time in 10, you could easily calculate when you’re shooting a critical and the enemy could also know when he was going to be hit by it, so he would simply take the 9 hits and on the 10th press dodge. So criticals must be a random algorithm or else they would serve no real purpose.

Now to Fancraft comparisons:

Meta in Fancraft 2 really doesn’t change often, because Fancraft 2 devs care about a more “perfect” balance (I could call it a stable balance, but I do not agree on using this term as a game like Vota also has a stable balance, even with the often balance changes), so they approach each balance patch trying to do the minimal changes possible. In my opinion, Fancraft 2 has become really stagnant if you compare it to the previous Fancraft CroodWar where you had players making the meta shift almost from nowhere.

When everyone thought that only one strategy was able to win games, then some pro would come and win 5 tournaments in a row with something really creative that nobody thought of before. That’s the kind of game I would like GW2 PvP to be.

Some my suggestion really is: ANet, start developing more with your heart, using the brain only to think on the grand scheme of things, instead of really interventing in the Meta. Let the players make and remake the Meta, while you (ANet) just let the creativity flow.

If a profession is considered imbalanced because it has 10 stun breakers, give 11 stuns to another profession, and if it makes the 11 stuns profession imbalanced, give 3 stuns, 5 conditions and 5 stun breakers to another profession, while you give another one the ability to stun break in an AOE and so on.

I’ll not go into really specifics because these are just general suggestions.

Hope ANet reads it and it changes something.

Note: The names of the games I used for comparison are not the real ones.
