Living story = players not returning?

It’s all a perception problem. You don’t have to do a single bit of the living story ever. You can always jump into living story if you like what’s currently on offer. It doesn’t matter if you miss some achievements or dailies. This really is a case of looking at a 3/4 full cup and saying it is almost empty.

While that’s true, the problem now is if you have already done the personal story/PvE aspect, and you aren’t a fan of PvP or WvWvW, by not doing the living story, there is nothing else for you to do. Run dungeons? Sure but how many times can you do that before you feel the grind? Same with fractals etc.

The concept of living story or living world as they now call it, was to give more for PvE players to do, the problem is that nothing is permanent, you can’t come back it later as you could in GW1, if you don’t do it right there and then, you miss out.

This game is not player friendly at all.

Now, before anyone attacks me for what I’ve said, please understand that it is my opinion and I am allowed an opinion, even if it is different to yours.

Diminishing satisfaction from LS updates

I’ll add my support for this too. The Living World system is weak. What I mean by that is, sure having rapid content is one thing but it’s only useful if that content is compelling and engaging.

I’m not finding the content engaging nor does it have any real quality to it. Quality over quantity seems to have been removed from the system here.

The big reset button that gets pressed every two weeks is frustrating and the continual “light x fires” or “collect xx pieces” does what exactly? Apart from increase your achievement score to get a new chest, what does it actually do? It doesn’t drive the story forward, it doesn’t engage the player, it doesn’t seem to actually do anything of merit. It’s just filler.

Guild Wars 1 was amazing in its approach and implementation. Sure it wasn’t perfect but it had a lot of game play and was repeatable to it. Guild Wars 2 on the other hand is dull, with very little engaging game play. The premise of the elder dragons has been abandoned for cheap and easy mini quests that have no lasting impact.

Guild Wars 1, a game that is now 8 years old, is a better game that Guild Wars 2, a game that is a little over 1 year old.

The event is good but....

I’m not in a guild, I was but left for various reasons. I was planning to re-join a guild at some point, but then the LS went onto a 2 week cycle. To be frank there is no reason to join a guild now.

The LS content is so rapid and achievement orientated, that I now spend all my time in game running around getting the achievements over the course of however many days, there is no time or interest in doing guild events, world bosses etc. So I just don’t see a reason to join a guild.

A guild no longer offers me anything unique or clear cut that it might have once. There was a time when being in a guild meant you got to run dungeons or do story mode or guild events with people you knew were interested in teaming up with you. Now, there are more than enough people around to PUG with, being in a guild would put a burden on me to do guild stuff that I really don’t have the time to do. As I said, all the other parts I don’t play anymore. It’s always LS achievements and nothing more. I can’t remember the last time I fought Jormag’s Claw, or went into a dungeon. Fractals? Haven’t been in one for at least 2 months now. Why? LS is on such a tight time frame that unless I give 100% of my game time to it, I won’t get them done.

Living story, for me, has completely removed any desire or interest in being in a guild.

Champion loot is bad

Champion by definition is meant to be the best – aside from the dragons etc. Harder, tougher and require a lot more effort.

Why is the loot dropped from them the same as the loot dropped from ordinary bad guys?

My suggestion: look at what drops from Champion’s and make it appropriate for the required effort.

After a hard day of slaughtering the risen, I like to unwind with pretty things.
