Well, yall clearly value your time a lot less than I do.
Plus it’s not fair to those of us with world completion on 2+ alts.. it would mean our hard work is meaningless then.
Again, by that logic you should all be raging against the existence of tomes of knowledge and hero point unlocking through WVW because that’s “not fair” to people who level all their alts the slow way and do the actual hero points out in the world. Not to mention people buying gold with IRL money instead of earning it in game, which is pretty much Anet’s business model. And again – this would just be the wps: it wouldn’t affect vistas, hearts, events, hero points.,.. It would just be the waypoints.
I could also see a service in game as an acceptable alternative – WoW has a flight service as an alternative to flying yourself, Wildstar has a taxi system, maybe something similar could be implemented that got you a bit closer at least. I’ll settle for just running through half a map to get where I’m going instead of a whole or two maps.
this has been brought up probably as many times as the mounts suggestion. I don’t think anet will ever do this.
Well I hope you’re wrong cause this is seriously frustrating and downgrading my quality of life in game.
however you should have a trade off for that convenience. for example if you choose that route you can no longer get map completion at all for the character in question.
Seems a bit extreme – paying for the service and not getting the xp for it seems like enough “punishment”.
In all seriousness, though. This is a roleplaying game. By that logic every character should unlock maps and the points on those maps themselves, not by some mechanic. The comparison to ascended gear etc. is like comparing apples and pears. Not the same thing.
Operative word there being “game” – there are loads of mechanics in game that should be there if we stuck to the roleplaying aspect (instant mail, waypoints existing in the first place, teleportation to PVP/WVW instances etc etc etc). It’s a game, games are supposed to be enjoyable, this mechanic makes it less so. And I wasn’t comparing so much as pointing out that other parts of the game have been adjusted to facilitate things for players – which isn’t the case with other MMOs so it’s not a given. WoW’s top tier gear is soulbound, the only account bound stuff is heirlooms for leveling.
Also, OP says it takes days to unlock all WP’s. His/her character must be walking instead of running around the maps. Because unlocking all WP’s (and only WP’s) should only take a few hours, unless you get sidetracked by events and mobs. But that’s a choice the OP makes, not something the game forces upon us. Personally, if I find something annoying (which is an entirely personal opinion and nowhere near objective or representative of the larger community) I just don’t do it.
OP runs using every speed booster in the book, and if it takes you a few hours to unlock the wps of the entire world then I’d like to see some youtube proof please.
And as I mentioned in my post, it’s not forced on us – we have choices, they’re just really kittenty choices.
Manually unlocking the WP can be half the fun in exploration.
Again, this would just be an option that everyone is completely free to not use – you could still unlock WPs by exploration if you wanted to.
Giving a free “unlock everything” button out in the open will ruin the fun for those who intentionally want to explore, even if they don’t intent to use it.
It’ll be a similar feeling as trying to play game normally after having completed it with cheat-codes. Once you do it, and you know in your mind that the cheatcodes are available, you’ll loose all interest of playing it again in the future.
This is just ridiculous? By this logic they should immediately remove the tomes of knowledge because it ruins leveling for people, but people are still leveling alts even though it’s entirely possible to farm up 80 tomes and skip leveling entirely. Basically if you feel like this the game is already ruined for you.
I have no friends, either in real life or in-game.. yet I’m still able to make use of one of those tele to friends. Haven’t bought with gems either. I got about 10 of them in tote from b’day gifts, since my account is kinda that old (not even playing since beta or release like some here). So where are u looking to get to? I’m just curious to know. Don’t say everywhere either cos yeah that’s kinda why u have a main in 1st place.
Everywhere. No really – as I mentioned in my first post, sometimes you want to change your main, maybe even several times. It keeps the game fresh and new for people who (like me) otherwise get bored faster, which keeps people playing, which presumably is what Anet wants. And I also want the peace of mind and freedom that comes with knowing that whatever I decide to do next, I won’t have to run through 3 maps to get there.
And how many TTFs you get depends on luck/RNG – I usually get repair canisters.
I really wonder if it’s possible to suggest anything on a game forum without people fighting you on it… Like you could go “everyone should get a free glider” and some people would still be like “THAT IS UNFAIR TO PEOPLE WHO DON’T LIKE GETTING FREE THINGS!!” – it’s amazing how even to have the option of something, for a price and with restrictions, that would make the game more enjoyable for some people and have absolute no effect on others, is still somehow a controversial thing.
Anyone who’s ever changed their main or leveled an alt can tell you: one of the most annoying things about it is not having any waypoints, leaving you with the unattractive options of:
- Running around and “discovering” them all at once – a project that takes several days and is mindnumbingly dull
- Accepting that any time you want to do something on that character it’s going to take a lot of running before you get to the place you need to be
- or if you’re rich you can buy Teleport to Friend gizmos from the store. Also requires friends to teleport to.
The solution: Every player who has a character at level 80 gets an option to unlock all waypoints (only the waypoints – no vistas or hearts etc) on their new character – either bought at a vendor in game for some kind of in-game currency, or even at the gem store if Anet wants to be like that (I’d definitely pay for it). Unlocking the waypoints this way gives no xp and there are several ways in which this can be implemented without messing things up for people who do enjoy leveling and uncovering the world for each and every alt – this would just be an option for people who want it.
This leaves more time for actual fun gameplay, keeps in line with the other mechanics that encourage players to switch between characters and level new ones (account bound ascended gear, tomes of knowledge, etc), less annoyance and generally kind of just seems like a no-brainer.
Someone on tumblr posted a screencap of a guy named Freddie Mercury, dressed in pink, with the “Killer Queen” title – that’s game over imo.
I admit to caving at the start of the price increase and buying gems with real money, because hey I love the game and it’s free to play and I don’t mind supporting it while actually getting something in return for it. But the higher the gold-to-gem prices get and the more I start to feel elbowed or “forced” into buying with real money (if there are things I want and the only other option is hours of mindless grinding that I didn’t choose to do on my own), the more reluctant I get to pay real money for gems. Now, part of that is because I’m a petty kitten and kind of a 2 year old about being told what to do, but it’s also a matter of sensing that if this keeps up then playing just becomes about grinding for the next shiny. And yeah yeah I know, part of that is par for the course with MMOs, and I don’t actually mind grinding for gold that much, but I do mind it when it’s not a choice.
Basically, if the prices temporarily spike and I happen to really want something from the store then I’m good with paying for it, but if they’re gonna stay like this forever then that has a fundamental impact on the way I play the game, and not in a good way.
Also agree that certain items – utility items like bank space, character slots – could stand to be cheaper if these rates are here to stay. A glider has little impact on the way anyone plays, but a character slot can be the difference between having a whole new character to gear up/deck out in shinies or having nothing to do in the game at all.

The most recent information we have is this bug has been identified and a fix has been made in the development setting. We believe this fix will roll out very soon, perhaps as soon as tomorrow. It is not possible to correct the issue today, so we appreciate your patience on this.
Thanks for the information! Will the limited availability of the Phoenix glider be extended in light of this (pretty major) unintended nerf to gold making? 2 days is not a lot of time to make the gold needed for it especially with gold-to-gem rates spiking (yet again).
Not likely when it wasnt the SW meta-event that produced the best gold from that map. It was the chest farm and pacman. Even that is outweighed by AB when you’re fast enough to hop maps like a madman.
Last I heard the event farm was the most profitable (with map bonus boost and rotation tactic), followed by chest farm – which is grindy even as far as gold farming goes – with pacman only really being worth while when you have a ton of keys saved. And with AB only being worth doing for the big meta which is every 2 hours.
Could have changed though – I miss having a reliable community/blog/resource for gold farming for GW2 like WoW has, as it is news about the latest gold farm techniques travels pretty slow.

Yall have a strange concept of “free”…
Not interested in debating this – I’ve said what I came to say, thanks for reminding me why I avoid forums though!

There seems to be some confusion:The currency exchange has a supply of Gems and Gold.
If players are converting Gold to Gems, then the Amount of Gold player will receive for their gems goes up.
If players are converting Gems to Gold, then the amount of Gems players receive for Gold goes up.
The exchange rate changes based on the scarcity of each supply. You cannot inflate it, it’s an exchange rate. As players purchase in one direction, it entices purchases in the other direction.
So, what exactly do you want ANet to do?
Lower cost of character slots (or remove cost all together), I suppose. I can wait for the rates to adjust for buying vanity items, but no character slots = fewer things for me to do in game = higher risk of me burning out on the game entirely.
So, you’re asking for the gemstore, ANet’s source of money to pay the monthly bills since people don’t pay a subscription in this game, to give everyone free character slots when ever they want, up to the max number of slots. Why should ANet, which is a business trying to make money, do this?
How about if you find $5 and buy 400 gems with gold and let that be your discount.
character slots are kind of a fundamental game thing – altoholics are a core group of MMO player types, it’s something that actually keeps people playing and encourages more spending in the gemstore (once you have those alts, that’s when it’s time for the pretty outfits!) so it seems like an odd decision by Anet to have them priced so high anyway. Especially since owning alts doesn’t really give you any perks in game (like in WoW where timegated cooldowns often aren’t account-wide, despite you having 50ish character slots for free there) – it’s just something for people who enjoy variety or leveling or dressing up different characters.

I understand about inflation and all (well, I understand enough, anyway), but gem prices have gone up too much too fast lately. I mean a month or so ago I could buy 400 gems with 70-ish gold – now it’s up to 100g! At this rate a character slot will cost more than a legendary by the time summer is over.
And yeah I know it’ll probably fluctuate, and I’d be a lot more patient with that if I was just waiting on buying pretty outfits and fun toys, but character slots are kind of a fundamental game thing – altoholics are a core group of MMO player types, it’s something that actually keeps people playing and encourages more spending in the gemstore (once you have those alts, that’s when it’s time for the pretty outfits!) so it seems like an odd decision by Anet to have them priced so high anyway. Mine just disabled and acted as if I’d never used it before – started Overwolf back up and “installed” it again and now it seems to work fine.
Honestly, it sounds like you opened a wvw daily chest instead of a forager chest. Did you get any of the other normal forager chest items when you opened it (herbs, fruit, veggies, etc.)?
I did yes. It’s possibly I opened a wvw chest in addition to the forager chest, and the badges came from there, but in that case I didn’t get a writ or anything else instead. I’m positive I opened the forager chest and didn’t receive a writ, at least.
So as the title says, I just got badges of honor from my PVE daily forager chest, instead of the usual writ of experience (and yes I’m 100% positive – opened the chest, writ not in my inventory, did a search and everything). What gives? Is this a new Feature™ because to me it seems like more of a bug. Can I change a setting somewhere to choose what I get? Cause I have plenty of badges but the writs I save up to trade in for tomes so I actually want those…
Key ring, or some other kind of item that stores all your keys and other similar map-specific items (shovels, crowbars, acid, machetes, etc). I’m DROWNING in these items and I’d pay good money to get them gathered up, easily transferred between alts and ideally eating up less bag space. It’s making me reluctant to switch between alts, which this game otherwise seems very encouraging of and keeps me from burning out.
There is a standard weapons NPC right near the gate where he is for other weapons, albeit of White quality.
Also you can still pick up items from drops as well.
Beyond that, this does seem to be the case.
Bummer. :/ I love this boost thing but this and not being able to try out elite specs feel like really unnecessary limitations.
So can we only try a few weapons when we use the trial? I’m trying out a warrior and I was equipped with an axe, shield and rifle – not what I had on me when I activated the trial – and the NPC is only selling those items (and some underwater ones, which seems unnecessary in dry-as-dust SW but … okay) and no bows, greatswords, swords, maces, etc. So do I just have to use the lowlevel weapons I had on me before to try those weapons out, or can I get level 80 trial weapons somewhere beyond the 3 that the NPC offers?
Any info/response on this?

Just addressing the original topic here to say that I’d like it if you had more options in how to acquire your legendary – I don’t mind the grind and doing the work, but it would be nice if you could choose what form that work took. At this point I think I’d rather just grind for the gold and buy from the TP but I’d actually prefer to earn it and do the scavenger hunt for it.
Or, since legendaries are mostly desirable for their aesthetics rather than providing superior dps, perhaps one idea could be to divide them up – shiny cosmetic accessible in multiple and slightly less demanding ways (not a click-for-loot, but something that can be acquired eventually even if you play casually and on your own terms) and another weapon that gives a bit of an edge in more challenging content and that’s accessed by people playing and enjoying said challenging content. Combine them for a complete legendary, or just use one or the other.
Ohh, that explains it! I figured it must have been something I did but I had no idea what. Thank you!
Hi, I hope it’s okay to post this here – I’m just wondering if there’s somewhere to toggle the list of dailies that used to pop up in the upper right corner? I had it up until a couple of days ago when it suddenly disappeared, and I’m thinking maybe I accidentally hit a hotkey to disable it or something? I really miss it, it doubled as a checklist and a reminder, and while I can watch the dailies by going into the hero panel it just isn’t the same.
