Hello Thieves,
I was wondering what you think would be better / optimal in fractals and larger instanced pve content, between the Daredevil Staff build and the Classic D/D build.
I am wearing full Zerker armor, but i might try other options later on.
My Daredevil Staff build:

My Classic D/D build:

I feel like they both have their strengths, but i wanted to hear other thieves’ opinions.
Staff:
-Evades = easier to survive
-AOE
-Guaranteed damage (compared to a back-stab missing the target’s back)
D/D:
-Sustained DPS
-Threat dump via stealth
-heartseeker spam below 25%
Also if there is anything to change in my builds let me know =)
Thanks
little questions, i have come back to the game recently after a long pause.
When i left had reached Fractal lvl 31, can i still get that weapon box for clearing the first 20 ?
Also, if i got someone to help me complete a lvl 50+ fractal, could i then buy the boxes right away ?
PVE:
1. Fractal rewards (time & difficulty VS reward; and also fractal weapon bad RNG system)
2. Evolution of dungeons (adding / improving dungeons and fractals)
3. The wardrobe system (goes together with more cool armors to craft / farm / loot/ buy)
I have not read all of the posts but i would like to say one thing.
My thief is now lvl 30 in fractals, i have looted 4 weapons so far.
However, none of those can be used by my thief… Thus i will give them to my low lvl necro (not 80 yet).
So in the end my thief has nothing to show for all that time spent in fractals, but my necro is full fractal weapons without having stepped in one.
So yes, please add a way to choose / exchange weapons =)
Something that was not mentioned above is the OPness of cluster bomb spam, as a blast finisher.
I believe it is one of the only spammable blast finisher, thus you can with i.e. a warrior fire field, stack around 15-20 might on your grp by yourself.
This is a pve godsend!
great uses i have found:
*spam on fire for mass might
*spam on water field to heal your whole group
*spam on shadow field for a good 10 sec on invisibility (use your smoke screen sit on top of it, spam cluster bomb). If done right you can stay invisible a good 30-40 sec, by chaining that + SR etc.
i know what you mean, i started dungeons with your spec, and i miss the third roll!
However with tour spec, how do you remove conditions? burn your precision signet? change to sword?
Also, which heal do you use with it? i used the invisibility one, but with the 30 sec cd, i was often reduced to waiting (or burning the house to keep me up), as conditions would pick at me slowly until death.
Also, would removing 5 from shadow arts to gain 5 into deadly arts be a good idea? i would lose close to constant health regen, for 10% damage buff.
Hello everyone,
The build / items: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fYAQNAoYVlYmaPXcS4E+5Ey2jdqCJKOFOFTppAnaJA-jAzAYLBRyCERIgJvFtm+CYbYRr9hAqWwUlCpKzI7NESdHSzA-e
I am coming back to the game after a 7 month break, i have leveled a new 80 thief. Now that i started doing dungeons i am looking to improve my build and equipment set up.
As i was having a hard time surviving conditions on myself, i changed from a 25/30/0/15/0, to my current 20/30/20/0/0.
This allows me to keep some damage while giving me a very reliable condi removal and some regen.
I pair this with mostly zerk gear paired with some Valkyrie, for some extra health.
The problem i find is that when i am running a dungeon without any support i tend to be very squishy… and sometime die.
However, in groups with support i almost never die (unless mistakes).
This makes me wonder if i am trading too much dps for barely any survivability?
Also, are there any support thief builds out there, that allows thieves to help the group perform better? (i do use the invis house, reflect wall, etc as the fights require)
Amazing, best post i have read in a while for a thief that is still leveling =)
I was worried about getting to higher levels, as i wanted to switch to something more bursty for lvl 80.
Thanks to your sword / pistol build i ll be able to avoid getting to 80 with only condition gear^^
Just a question though, is the damage from the auto swing of the sword enough if geared power / preci? It s hard for me to tell, as when i try it with my condi gear it lacks the punch needed.
Thanks for the great post, can we get a sticky for new thieves?
I started my thief not too long ago and i am currently playing D/D, with a focus on bleed damage thanks to Death Blossom.
I use the healing signet so that every time i DB, i get healed 3 times * the number of enemies hit. This, plus the fact that DB has avoidance built in allows you to survive rather well (but never stop moving or you are dead).
Coupled with that i use the trait that allows me to drop caltrops when i roll, so more bleeds and more avoidance. (with some + condition damage gear, enemies start to melt^^)
Because DB uses a lot of initiative, i use the trait that grants me initiative on steal, as well as the skill “roll for initiative”, thus you can twirl around all day =)
This works well for levelling (just turned 45), however i have no experience with dungeons at all !
The COE event you are talking about is the one with constant robot spawning and that requires you to press the console?
If yes i found that the few times i have done it i as a support guardian was the most useful.
I was using a shield and a GS, using the AOE pull and the AOE bump to keep the button pusher safe.
Also as i had a lot of survivality i could activate the small robots to detonate before they reached the guy, while leading the big ones away.
That said, i also suuport the objects taking condition damage! =)
I don’t really agree.
I just finished my full Dredge set for my guardian and i do like the dungeon on explorable mode.
The only path which is a pain is the 2nd one, because of how long it is!!!! (oh and 1 waypoint…)
For groups, as a usual rule you will not find groups; HOWEVER if you make your own you should have no problem finding 4 mates to go.
Btw, as an incentive: path 1 = 20min, path 3 = 45min. So if you have a group that can play their class, you get 120 tokens for 1 hour of fun dungeoning.
