Ignoring the playerbase

I really wish Anet would take notice of the veteran players who dislike the last two patches.

I have a few level 80’s and leveling an alt was the most fun I could have in an MMO but now leveling an alt is just painful, boring and it feels like I’m having my hand held all the way through.

I wish we could start a petition to get Anet to reverse the changes they’ve made and try and get back on track with expanding on the content they have, but I don’t think it will do any good.

Perhaps it’s time I look for another game soon…

We are talking purely PvE I assume?

I’d almost say longbow ranger just for the dodging part. Otherwise most attacks don’t have to be super accurate. Maybe minion necromancer, but that might not be as good if you have to put the AOE staff fields down where the mobs are.

That’s the best I got.

Oh yea, pve.

I was thinking minion necro but it doesn’t hold up much in dungeons/fractals.

Hi, I had a bit of a question.

What would be the best profession and build for a visually disabled person to play?

I was thinking about the criteria and think it goes something like this.

-Doesn’t need to be accurate in it’s attacks
-Doesn’t have to dodge much
-Can stand up to some damage from mistakes
-Doesn’t have complex mechanics (such as the teleport skills)

If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

To have the best chance of your feedback being heard and action being taken if it is needed may I suggest that you review the following thread.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/How-to-Give-Good-Feedback/

Not giving feedback in this matter may result to your voice not being heard as it was intended.

This was more expressing my, “feelings” I guess you could say.

I don’t think Anet is going to fix any of this or alter any of it. So shrugs

Okay before you write this off as over the top complaining I would just like to say one or two things. First of all I (as are we all) paying customers who bought this game and many of us have spent money in the gems store, I think that gives us (the consumers) the right to have some say in the product we’ve bought. Secondly, I’m saying this because I really loved GW2 and even though I’ve been on and off it spurred me on to look up more Charr lore and more about the world and really look around for all the things I could experience.

Not that aside.

I haven’t been wanting to do much in GW2 post patch. Now don’t think I’m just b*tching because of all the problems with it, it really, legitimately made me feel like I don’t want to do things.

First of all I look at dailies and before the patch there were usually a good few at the top that I could just jump into that weren’t PVP. As I’m not a PVP’er I do all of the PVE ones, all of them. But now I just look at the limited amount of PVE dailies and just decide not to bother. Restricting my choices in the dailies means I don’t want to do the only PVE ones I need to complete them.

I really like leveling characters. Seriously, I will put off getting a legendary or something else just to take a character through it’s progression, story and see what comes of it. However the new trait system and other such things has made it a boring, lifeless slog to the point where I don’t want to make anything anymore.

I don’t really want to go outside my home city anymore because, well I have to waypoint twice and you could call me lazy but kitten it seems really dumb and backwards to have to WP twice just to get where I want to go.

My main is an engineer and most of my time spent on him is in dungeons with the rest of my guild (who seem to be playing a lot less after the patch too) and so the new traits for him are.. useless. You can buff turrets all you like but their horrible AI and the fact that they die in one hit from anything in a dungeon makes them worthless.

Yes okay I’m complaining. But I spent money on a product and something I enjoyed and I feel like I should have some sort of say rather than just being told what’s happening or even being asked on if this effects me in any way. This goes for all of you too, all of you.

I will be playing much less. The fact that everything is too easy now (seriously we can faceroll a dungeon in no time) plus the fact that everyone is so botched with no new content, much, much less.

I don’t think I’ve ever just quit and MMO other than from the MMO shutting down or getting so dead that there was no one to play with anymore.

However, my friends and I (In the same guild) have been talking about if we want to keep playing this game after this patch. That’s the first time this has happened because we are massive fans of the Charr and the lore around them and we have put a lot of work into our characters and daily dungeon runs.

Now a lot of people have been complaining about the patch on the technical side and the fact that it’s really going to hurt anyone trying to level a character along with the fact that a lot of the traits they have added are useless PLUS the fact that the Town Clothes seem like a massive cash grab.. So I’m not going to go into it in detail.

Even as a level 80 guild (for every character) who are 99% a PVE guild this hurts us in a few ways and in other ways it’s just plain annoying. The other annoying thing is that Anet doesn’t care about what the players think. They really don’t. Any descanting opinions in threads are quickly deleted (watch this thread disappear).

In my opinion, this whole exercise is just going to turn out into a cash grab masked as a content update.. I hope I’m wrong but seriously, first time a large group of people have considered quitting an MMO over a patch. Was it worth it?

Anet wont listen though, it’s their special snowflake sculpture and all the players (you know, the people who paid money to play this game and liked it before) are wrong.

Also, if you call them on anything or go against what they want in a post, they will just delete it.

If I had some feedback (coming from an engineer player) and I assure you this is not an attack or dig on staff.. Turrets are still pretty useless and the new traits aren’t really going to change that at “end game” content such as dungeons and so forth. They still die too quickly and the AI isn’t very good (as it will randomly target enemies making their dps pointless if you can’t focus it) plus it’s just going to die too quickly to do anything so I can’t see many engineers using it.

Also I think the Elementalists “Can’t be critically hit while in earth attunement” and the thieves being able to heal from crits is a bit overpowered but that’s me.

Looking for a usable Axe/pet build

Hi all.

I’m building up a ranger as my last character and I like the idea of an axe throwing ranger (with possibly a shortbow offhand).

I was wondering if anyone could suggest any traits or anything relevant for a build like that as I’m trying to make one right now and I just can’t see it. And no.. I don’t mind about “optimal”, just workable.

Well I have a level 80 guardian, warrior and necro. I gave up on my necro when he hit level 80 as, I don’t know he felt really dull. I kinda’ like my guardian and my warrior but overall I am not feeling any of my characters anymore. When I play it feels more like an old routine than anything else.

Should I try something different? Another profession or another way to play? I’m just trying to get some enjoyment and enthusiasm back. Some suggestions would be great.

Does anyone else hate Trahearne?

mythil.9416

Mythil, all of your specific arguments have been about the personal story, not Trahearne.

You’re projecting – hating on something when you hate something else.

As a person who is *very *critical of stories and equally so of ArenaNet’s direction of lore lately, I will say this with ease:

The only issue Trahearne himself has is his voice actor. The other issues people blame Trahearne for is an issue of the Personal Story and more importantly how ArenaNet advertised Guild Wars 2. Let’s be honest with ourselves, look at all the advertisements and the manifesto trailer and all the promises for what the game would be. Now look at the game. Do those look like the same thing beyond the title to you? Because they don’t to me.

And I believe it is that which people hate. But they don’t realize it so they blame Trahearne or whatnot.

You’re promised a personal story, a story for you. Where you become the big hero. We get a story where you’re the big hero who acts equal to everyone else, who’s praised as much as everyone else, with very limited choices and personal interaction. And you see the issue as being Trahearn, when it’s the whole of the personal story. And open world. And dungeons.

I love GW’s lore but even I’m honest enough to say that I’ve long since learned never to believe ArenaNet’s promises of what the game will play like in their advertisements. Makes me wonder if the people who make said advertisements even play the game or if they just listen to what the developers are aiming for.

That is quite possible (though I still don’t like him as a character. To me he comes of as both smug and insecure and I’m supposed to follow this guy? Aren’t I the hero?) So yes your argument does make sense even though I still don’t like the character (personally).

Secondly as I said before (and from interviews that are online) the “loremaster” wants to work more on Sylvari. Why? They already have more than any other race and yet they are boring (to me anyway, remember this is all a subjective personal opinion).

Thirdly, I like the Charr, I really like them. Their lore, history, character and society and I really liked rising through the ranks of the Charr, proving my worth. Same with the orders but less so but I was okay with that, I’m furthering myself and the plot.

Then they pull the switcharoo and it was so jarring that I can’t play the story mission again past claw Island.

I dislike a lot of the personal story as it makes your character play second fiddle to some random NPC. That does happen a lot in MMOs though.

The Living Story seems better because while it has a group of NPCs involved in it they don’t take a lead role. It is your character taking the lead still.

Pretty much this. People would rather defend Trahearne even though he is terribly written, terribly put into the story and if you are any other race other than the Sylvari it makes no sense whatsoever.

I don’t want to launch a personal attack on the writer(s) or anything but it’s very much publicly obvious they want to do more with the Sylvari and just brush off the other races, that’s what’s frustrating too.

Personally, I don’t like him. None of the people I play with like him. I’ve show people the entire story who don’t play the game and they admit it’s just bad. If you like him then fine, but I really don’t. Despite what he does or doesn’t do the way he’s introduced to anyone who’s not Sylvari makes you FEEL like he’s pretty much the plot usurper

He turns up half way through the story and totally takes the spotlight from you.

He turns up at various points in time based on character race. His first appearance for most players is Claw Island. He is introduced as someone well known by your mentor as a scholar of Orr. He is there for the very same reason you and your mentor are there, as he acknowledges. He then asks for your permission to accompany you. This is hardly taking charge.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Battle_of_Claw_Island#Dialogues

In the follow up mission he says some variation of, “[Player’s mentor’s] sacrifice held them back, but it was your bravery that led us to safety, my friend. I am grateful to you.”

You and Trahearne, at his request, seek help from the Pale Tree. This mission is largely about Orr, Trahearne, and his lack of confidence in being a general. Both Trahearne and the Pale Tree treat you as the player as important to reclaiming Orr. If anyone is stealing the spotlight at this point it’s that Avatar of the Pale Tree. Always building up Trahearne when he’s down and showing visions of your destiny.

The following mission has you saving your order. At the end you propose to form The Pact alliance, not Trahearne; and Trahearne agrees to follow whatever your plan might be.

Trahearne’s introduction, to most players, isn’t remarkably different from other NPCs that aid the player. It is hardly spotlight grabbing.

Everyone starts bowing down to him and following everything he does and all you have is his dirty work to do. He totally removes the feeling of being the spotlight of the story, the hero and the driving force in change and it comes out of nowhere.

To the contrary. After you decide to form the Pact and you choose Trahearne to lead it; the first mission has you deciding the tactics for retaking Claw Island and Trahearne agreeing to them. The NPCs that offer victory dialogue thank you and Trahearne. Trahearne repeats that he needs you by his side to keep the orders unified. Trahearne offers his doubts about reclaiming Orr and you give him hope.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Retribution#Dialogue

In Forging the Pact, no one is bowing down to Trahearne. The point of this mission actually to convince the orders that Trahearne can lead them as they all have doubts.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Forging_the_Pact#Dialogues

I could go on and look into every mission dialogue for you, but I think your should do your own homework. I think you’ll find that Trahearne gives a lot of credit to the player and that this is mostly a story about you supporting Trahearne through his Wyld Hunt. It is not your Wyld Hunt, but you play an important role in it.

There are problems with Trahearne. His introduction for most players is without much precedent, as is the case with many other plot elements (e.g., only some Auran players learn about Professor Gorr’s theory that is largely dropped into other player’s laps when it becomes necessary). He also has a very unemotional voice actor, which can be more than irritating when certain lines need to be delivered with emotion. This could be because of the writing or the actor, I’m not sure which.

1) You are pretty much forced into letting him lead as there are no other options
2) Just dumping a character in and everyone saying “Hay that guy he’s so awesome” is not weaving him into the narrative
3) He is very annoying, just mopes around and makes you do all the actual work while he soaks up the glory.

Really there is no reason for him to be in the story at all. Personally I want my character to the hero, the head of everything, the one giving the big speeches and so forth but no. The story writer instead of keeping to the way it should have been (you being the hero and the driving force) instead kept you in the background doing the work because she loves Sylvari so much. It’s just bad storytelling.

Okay before I start, obvious spoilers before people get bent out of shape about this.

I’ve got more than one character to 80 and I love the Charr start story missions and so forth. However I have one major problem with the story, Trahearne..

He turns up half way through the story and totally takes the spotlight from you. Everyone starts bowing down to him and following everything he does and all you have is his dirty work to do. He totally removes the feeling of being the spotlight of the story, the hero and the driving force in change and it comes out of nowhere.

I’m sorry but (even though I overall like the game) this is horrible writing and I just had to air my opinions on this.

I could not do this mission. I’m partially sighted (I won’t go into it much as I have a rare condition, so you’ll just have to take my word for what I am saying, sorry) and I could not do the mission, at all. I was actually ready to totally give up and bin GW2.

The reason I play mmo’s and anything like them is that I couldn’t play normal games due to my eyesight, reaction time and so on. I really hate this mission as you HAVE to do it to pass on and no I didn’t want to look it up as I wanted the game to surprise me as the story is really good and I didn’t want to see any spoilers.

I died constantly for an hour just trying to dumb luck the mission, running past the wind and I couldn’t do it. I eventually asked in map chat if there was any way to bypass the mission and someone said they would help me (I’m okay getting help because, say, an enemy is hard but I hate having help for my disability). They told me about the dieing checkpoint thing and I felt totally cheated.. I spent an hour trying to do this on luck and I could have just died and accepted it?

I’m still thinking about binning GW2, which would hurt as I love the setting, story and even random NPC conversations.. It’s just that mmo’s are becoming so action orientated now that I just can’t do them.

G’day.
