I don’t believe this has always been the case, but I have recently seen the ‘Skill recharging’ chat notice recently. I believe since the last patch. I have not changed how I play and now it seems to spam me constantly. Since the blue recharge timers have been added I believe this to be the added as well. I would really like to not be notified when I press a skill that is recharging. It does not help me at all and I would like to be able to turn it off, but not necessarily turn anything else off too.
@Yoh, they have recently re-done the Fire Elemental. I had done it previously and if I finished with all of my gear just damaged I thought it was a win. I have done it twice since the re-do and quite a bit easier. I was able to revive people and I even got hit several times by the flames. You still have to pay attention and I did see several people getting killed because they did not understand the elements of the fight.
Well take this for an example; Would you be able to play most singleplayer games for years with the gameplay not changing?
Thats what GW2 ( and all other MMORPGs) are like. The gameplay doesnt change much over course of time, therefor people need other goals to drive them, aka most cases numbers, since many gamers agree " graphics is just compliment to good gameplays and story".
Taking that to account, why do Gw2’ers think no one is having fun if they join the “gear treadmill”??
Its like saying, its not fun building muscles at the gym, just working out is the fun, not the results. Konstant growth = pleasure = “fun”
I belive GW2 would work better as a PVP game, since it demands fair balance ( aka no one having better gear then the other). But for PvE you need konstant progression to keep comming back, otherwise you simply play every few months when they do release new content.
The one thing about GW1 that kept me coming back was the ‘stagnant’ progression of items. I could literally come back after a year and be the same off but have more to explore and play. One HUGE advantage was the henchmen and heroes of GW1. While some do not agree I think it offered a lot for the game. I could choose to play with guilds, friends, random pugs, handful of people or just by myself! I loved going into the dungeons just by myself (and heroes) and the reward and difficulty were great. THAT is what kept me coming back.
I can enjoy a gear treadmill too, but that is not what is needed to keep people coming back. Gameplay that is challenging and fun is what will get people to keep playing. Not an artificial construct that invalidates all of your previous work, and the previous areas you have been to. Try going to a low level area in WoW or any other treadmill game. There is no challenge. There is very little challenge for a 80 to go to a low level in GW2 but it is there and you can still be killed quite easily if you don’t pay attention, happened to me earlier actually.
There will be no way for you to know about your exact DR or really any knowledge of DR. It is put in to the game to combat bots. The more information about it the better the bots will be at breaking it. This is way that restrictions to combat botting actually hurts players. Sometimes after a long week I just want to kill hordes upon hordes of undead, but if I do I know that I won’t get good loot after awhile and I will have to kill bunnies instead.
So, the short of it, you will get anecdotal evidence about DR but will know nothing concrete. When you feel you are not getting good loot anymore, either move on or keep killing. It’s up to you.
I agree that I do not need to know the EXACT thing they do to fix it or anything specific about the code, BUT… telling us respawns happen 95-120 seconds and we see respawns within seconds. THESE are the things that we need to know. Though, they STILL don’t think there is a problem. THIS is the issue. So, sometimes we do need to know more than what they are telling us so we can focus on the game and not on the numbers. Frankly, I think the whole business of curbing loot depending on the area is horrible. Talk about limiting where people want to play. Events and mobs should drop loot relevant to you no matter what level they are or don’t have downleveling, because that just makes it silly to go to lower level areas and work towards something so unrewarding for you.
I agree that Anet sets forth to make a great game. I loved GW1 and because of it I think this can be a great game. What concerns me is many things from GW1 that could have carried to GW2 have not happened. Not things that will come later.. those will come later. An example, Last login for guild members. WHY was this not included DAY 1? The Anet that brought GW1 is great, but so far, we have been given a lot of PR double speak that just makes people uneasy.
I am fine if something takes awhile to fix or create. We’ve waited how long for this game? But, what I want to know now is that something is wrong and that it is being looked into/fixed. You don’t have to give me an ETR but something more than “Perceived strange drop behavior”. Really, I think perceived is a little condescending after the previous threads. How about “Please assist us with drop patterns” or “We are investigating and need more data”.
Back to more relevant info to this thread, I have been going for zone completions today and have received very little actual loot. A couple blues, 1 green, and 1 rare, many hooves and broken lockpicks. Several Veterans didn’t drop anything, though several dropped gray items. The only reason that I find today worthwhile to play is that I am doing zone completion.
That is not the point of this thread @Aproposs. You may be fine with how much you are getting, but you are doing the same thing many of us feel Anet is doing, brushing off a very big issue. Something changed. Something big. Loot is not as good as it was before. What changed? We don’t know. You have provided a lot of info, but so did the other thread. Was that info cataloged with this thread? I don’t know. I assume so, but from the information we get from Anet, it is hard to tell what they do with anything the community tells them.
We need more transparency from what they do with their patches and what they expect to happen. ‘Fixed several bugs’, well, what does that mean? If I don’t know what bug has been fixed how will I know it has been fixed? How will I know if it hasn’t been fixed? And by that i mean, if they say a bug is fixed and clearly I can reproduce it, then it is not fixed. Similarly, the tooltips and notes for skills, traits and other things need to say exactly what they do. How are we to know what a skill does and if it is broke or not if it doesn’t have the right info? Like the food buffs, most of them say +10 Experience from kills. 10% or 10 points? I know now it is supposed to be 10%, but in reality, that is not even right, or there is some crazy math to get that 10%. —Sorry.. tangent aside…
The problem right now is something changed that was not communicated to the community and many, many people have felt its change. Was it intentional, for whatever reason? If yes, then tell us so we can be on or merry way and concentrate on other things. If no, then we need to know it is being looked into and that we are being heard. We need MORE red posts from Anet, and not just with infractions and PR talk. If we know what direction they are heading then we can get there together as a community.

The default respawn rate is 95-120 seconds, so if you’re seeing locations where they respawn much faster, please report it with specific info! Event creatures will often appear more quickly (so the event doesn’t look dead if players kill them immediately) and if players were killing things in the same area, they might respawn near you. (i.e. if a group ran through and cleared an area a minute ago, a lone player might be in the area when their respawn timer comes up.)
I have a question about this 95-120 second respawn rate. Is it based on when that particular enemy was killed, or is there a timer that runs and every 95-120 seconds checks to see if an enemy is there?
So, if I kill Enemy X, does a timer start then? Or is there a timer running and if he died at 94 seconds, the enemy respawns because the timer saw the enemy was not there at 95 seconds?
I have a feeling there is a timer that is not tied to the enemy death and that is why sometimes we see enemies respawn almost instantly and other times it does take awhile. It just depends on when the enemy was killed in the timer range.
4 Toons leveled to 80. Over 400+ (Maybe 500) hours of game time. Only Exotic I have seen drop is from Karka Event chest. I have killed MANY (30+) dragon minions. While I have received several rare items (mostly ‘of air’) from those chests, the quantity of crap compared to how many times I have opened said chests, is very high.
I would love to get back to a GW1 style of loot. Any dungeon you ran would guarantee something, usually a onyx piece and some random yellow item. Would generally not be awesome, but a much better feeling than getting vendor trash and sub par loot.
Drop the amount of loot we get from the ‘big’ chests, but up the quality of those chests. Guarantee a rare item and something else. This would make it more enjoyable to play to get SOMETHING than to get a bunch of useless gear that is immediately sold to the merchant.
Iron Marches is a good example. The ‘Branded Army’ event has a champion and 26 other branded that march with it. The ‘Heart guy’ is also tied to this event, he will not sell you anything if the event is up and I have hardly seen anyone in the area when I have leveled my 4 level 80’s. And I have seen no one doing that event, nor the Champion devourer at the back of the map. Though, it is out of the way and you won’t just happen to run in to that event.
I do not like when a karma merchant is tied to an event. If it is a group event, well, I am probably not going to buy anything from him, or sell anything.
Compared to GW1, there is zero variety. Each profession does have some little variety, but NOTHING like it should be.
I would like to not HAVE to run with a pet for my ranger. I would love to be able to have an all health stealing Necro.
From GW1 you had all 8 skills that you could swap out to 3. Elites are silly to compare, there are only a couple and don’t really promote a good balance to any sort of build. The heal skill also does not matter, there is only 3 (some races have 4).
Weapon swaps give some variety, but they are really just the same thing. After the first several levels you already know what weapons you like and which you don’t. But really, I would like to change the skills and have the weapon modify those skills.
If I am using a staff for Necro, I would like to select some skills from all of the weapons and have their range buffed, maybe tone down damage to compensate. Similarly, if I chose a dagger, it should modify the skills I choose.
The variety of messing with your skills is what is missing with this game. The illusion that you can change your build is just that, an illusion.
I miss being able to make a PBAoE Ele. I loved running in to the middle of groups and burning them to the ground before they killed me. I can’t do that at all in this game. I am forced to play the profession a certain way. Or playing a ranger with ALL traps (Maybe 1 or 2 not traps) and getting the mobs to come at me. Making a Monk that was a smiter instead of a healer (granted no trinity, but you get my point).
I love the idea of the bells and the Choir. That was a very enjoyable mini-game. BUT, as soon as I saw there was a bell you could use outside of the mini-game I cringed.
I have heard people doing christmas songs near the bank and that was awesome. I have also heard someone hitting the same key over and over with the same high pitched annoying note. I had to mute my game. I can definitely walk away from the person, but when they are doing it near a group of people that are waiting for something, Dungeon, event, BLTP or whatever, it gets annoying and takes away from what I want to do at that moment.
I have no idea what can be done about this or if anything can be done about it. Maybe if the same key is hit 5 times in a row to silence it or something. I dunno. Trolls will be trolls but this physically hurts when you are not expecting it and are enjoying ALL aspects of the game, sound and all.
I just did the Grenth Event in cursed shore for the first time tonight. It was a lot more fun than I can remember having in any treadmill subscription MMO. The big events are out there. People are not doing them because they are not rewarding, but when the developer puts in a new dungeon with rewards, people complain about grind…
le sigh
As to the game dying, HoD, where I did the event tonight, has been “dead” for over a month. There was even a thread about it not too long ago. Seems like there are plenty of people around, though.
I will agree with you about some Events being out in the world. But, as you said they are not rewarding enough and the FotM being the best place to make money and also get best gear. Well, that is just stupid. I have done some of the events in Orr but there are really not enough people anymore to do them, hence all the posts (here and reddit and other places) about trying to rally people to complete them.
If the events in ANY area of the game gave me as much gold/karma/xp as the level 80 areas I wouldn’t mind roaming the game. That could be fun. But getting a couple measly copper is not worth it, nor is the 2 karma or whatever paltry amount you get at low levels.
I will say the ‘End-Game’ is not at all like it was portrayed to be. Currently, when you get to 80 you can WvW, sPvP, Dungeons, or bang your head against your keyboard until you see a shiny new legendary, or grind for no fun to get your legendary.
Well, for Dungeons I like to run with friends and don’t always want to run dungeons all the time to get any sort of gold or loot or rewards. I would rather be in the world and experience the game. GW1 was instanced but it was in the world. Instead of having small sections that everyone congregated to form parties to go in to the world, you have the world trying to get in to instanced sections that are cut off from the world.
WvW fun for a bit and then you are just running around with a bunch of people trying to kill things. Because, to be honest, it doesn’t really matter how good a player is when they see the ‘zerg’ they will probably be killed. Kiting a group of players by myself or with a small group is not really too fun after awhile.
sPvP, this is already only for some people. GW1 had a load of options for sPvP and they were enjoyable. There is little variety to sPvP and that is a shame.
Legendary, well, this is just a silly thing. If there were plenty of other things to do then this is a long term goal. I still have it as a long term goal. Similarly to Fissure armor in GW1. I still don’t have it because it was a long grind to get (for me). I will most likely not see a legendary either. But I can accept that has the stats are nothing different than my current exotics. (Not going to get in to ascended…)
What I do right now is play around with alts, not power leveling, and I have 3 80’s myself. I have the ability to play when I should be doing other things (work) and can play for 3-4 hours a day. I am not burned out either, I loved playing different toons but after you clear a zone, what else is there to do? Do the same things again? Watch how the DE’s don’t actually do anything? There needs to be more of the world open. I should be able to level 2 different toons and NOT have to go to the same zones with each toon. Where is more maguuma? Shiverpeaks? Other areas that are escaping my head…?
When I feel like getting on an 80, I look for Dragon’s to fight, because that is the only thing that seem ‘end-gamy’ to me. I want to be in the world and see things. I love killing a dragon standing next to a rainbow shooting unicorn, or seeing the dark and deadly trail of a greatsword sundering a hapless ice elemental in two. The end game right now is quite silly. There is not enough events that are happening in the world. There needs to be more events ALL OVER! Not just in some silly area that is arbitrarily set to 80 or 65 or 50, also being in just a small section of the zone. What about a DE (probably chain would be better) that happened across multiple zones. Some minion that decided he needed some snacks along the way and you had to fight him back! That would be awesome.
I want one of my characters to have the look of the starting Light gear because I think it looks better than many other types. Looks are all based on my someone likes. I personally hate the gladiator appearance but I know someone who loves it.
Going with the look of the crafted exotic sets, I don’t like the look of Light but like the look of the heavy set. I have no idea what the medium looks like as I don’t have anyone high enough for it yet. So, if would craft Exotic sets and transmute to something I like. So (eventually) for my mesmer I will have the acolyte (starter, not named exotic) look but for my necro I will have the named exotic look (which is also acolyte). They will have same stats (well, same value, potentially different stats) but have completely different looks.
Only reason I do not want an increase in Level is because I don’t want more content to be invalidated. I would rather have more options for things to do at Level 80, then have only 3 level 100 areas (or whatever). Also increasing the cap means when leveling there is a bunch of content that I can bypass while playing up to 100. Just make everything level 80 and make areas harder, add more story (real story, not a branching story that ends up being a stick), and provide lots of DE’s that change the actual map.
Truthfully, I think a large reason is a lot of people have stopped playing right now. Me, personally, am waiting until later tomorrow to decide if I am done totally. But, I would have bought gems this weekend if I had been playing. So, this is a big indication to me that a lot of people have stopped playing right now. This has nothing to do with what people in game are buying with Gold, it matters that people are actually buying those gems with real money in the first place to trade for that gold. Those prices will only soar higher as more people stop buying gems.
I am halting playing until after Monday’s AMA. If the elephant in the room is not addressed I will be saddened but go about my life.
I have been playing less since the release of Lost Shores, but did play that weekend. I had been playing everyday and leveling a number of toons. I have an Ele and Warrior at 80, Guardian at 52, Ranger at 59 and 4 other toons at various early levels. I wanted to level all to 80 and be able to easily obtain max gear and basically play anytime I wanted with any toon I wanted anywhere I wanted. With the advent of Ascended, I don’t feel I can get max gear for 1 toon, let alone all 8.
Since the introduction of this grind, I don’t feel like it is fun anymore. I may be in the middle ground of more than casual but less than hard-core. I consider myself more casual though and very altoholic. I have many friends that feel the same way and have the same proclivities about toons. We don’t see the point of continuing with the grind. We have real jobs that give us enough stress and real-life grind to come in to a game and repeat the same things over and over for little rewards (Unless we WANT those rewards i.e. unique skins or chances for mini drops or similar).
I don’t think its the end of the world at all if they make gear progression in this game, gear progression is in EVERY game, what makes it so bad for GW2 to have it?
I don’t know. My favorite games to play at the moment are GW2, Planetside 2 and MWO. Those three are more than enough to keep me busy until next year when Arma 3, DayZ standalone and Elder Scrolls Online come out.
As long as Anet makes good on all their ideas and promises so far, GW2 will remain the best MMO on the market right now.
The reason it’s the “best” right now is because its a SKILL BASED GAME.
The introduction of a gear grind removes that skill-based nature from the game by trivializing content and handing out unfair advantage in WvW to people who engage in one type of content (the GRINDY, backbiting, exclusionary, elitist type).
So yes, it is a very big deal. What is the point of even having dodge if they intend you to “grind-out-gear” for events and pvp?
Yeah but gear progression is what drove PvP in Vanilla WoW. You have to admit it.
There is still skill because you can dodge to evade attacks, use terrain, better coordination of attacks, combo moves, etc.
There already is a big difference between a level 40 and a level 80 in WvW, more stats and higher stats still give you an advantage at a higher level.
I’m not saying they should go all out and put in PvP gear with Resilience (worst idea ever thought of )
But a little gear progression isn’t bad. They just need to make sure its extremely linear, more of a min max kind of thing, instead of having huge jumps in power like other games have between gear sets.
I think that is what they were trying to do by introducing Ascended gear as well, with the current model anyone who has legendary’s has a huge advantage over someone in exotics because of the stat difference so the way I heard it explained, they were trying to bridge that gap.
There was no gap for legendaries. Legendaries and Exotics were the same stats. There will be when they introduce Ascended weapons and bump the legendaries up to ascended stats. But they introduced the gap with Ascended. There literally was nothing to bridge.
For those of us without a huge time sink, this is a gear grind. Going from 5 Ectos to 50 ectos per piece of gear creates a gear grind. This is not including the other materials. This issue is not necessarily the gear, but the casual disregard for casual players. Or, I can spend all my time trying to run FotM to get drops. I do not feel this is a very fun time sink. I have over 400+ hours in the game and have 50+ ectos right now. I was saving them to create all my exotic gear at once for one toon. Why don’t I have more? Because I like to play alts too, many times with my fiance who likes to play alts as well. When I hit 80 do I want to have top gear on all my alts? YES! Will I be able to? No. Why should I continue to play my alts? Most of my time would be spent to gather the items for the gear or I can spend real money to buy them. I would rather spend real money on things that are not deemed necessary. I would rather spend money on dye packs to be honest. This is the gear grind.
Mods, please do not delete this post. I feel it contributes to the overall understanding of this conversation and one side that is being misunderstood by some.
Two things from me:
- We will talk in more detail about the things Chris outlined when we get closer to releasing them.
- If this thread becomes another one where people bicker back and forth about Ascended gear, I will close it down. Please continue discussion about Ascended gear in the existing threads on that topic and do not derail every thread that pops up.Thank you.
I welcome a lot of what was talked about and I am able to wait for a lot of positive changes to the game. There are a lot of things that I may look forward to, depending on the communication from Anet. I personally want to see the dinosaurs come back! Where did they go?! Hopefully, that is one of those things about variations to creatures.
The issue many of us have is with the addition of the ascended gear and FotM, we feel it has broken the core value of the game. Where is the ability to play this game casually and experience the content at our own leisure? This is what brought me personally to GW2. I was able to play almost everything in GW1 because there was no gating of content or a long road to acquire better gear/specific gear.
We are not trying to derail any threads (at least I am not) but we would like something to assuage the fears of where this game is going and if we want to get off the ride now.
I don’t plan on getting another Anet game ever at this point. Nor NCSoft, but most of their games were grindy anyway, but I still played them because they had some good things about them and good word of mouth.
Speaking of word of mouth, Anet should realize that someone is more apt to say something bad about a company than something good. I was an irregularity, I spouted so many good things about GW1 and GW2. But, now I have done a 180 because of this. I have told many people they are not worth it anymore.
Simply put, nothing physical has been removed. BUT, the core value of the game has changed. We are wanting a response to this change.
You missed where the chow mein was snatched away. In this case, the casual play of this game. Or the ability to play alts and not be stuck playing one toon forever to maintain the top level of gear.
Except they haven’t. Incrementally adding a single new tier of gear is not something they never said they’d do. Just because people say this is going to result in a philosophy-shattering chain of more and more new tiers, despite the fact that ArenaNet said this isn’t what they intend to do doesn’t make it true.
While not talking about a vertical progression, which I don’t care about if it is small, is more about the goals of being more casual and being able to leave the game for periods of time and come back not having to try and get more gear that would take a significant amount of time to acquire. This is what I am talking about. If they added a vertical progression that was easy to get, say 1 more mat per tier or something silly, I would not care about as much as it would be VERY easy to acquire. But now I will not be able to stop playing that game for a significant amount of time and come back to the same level of power I had and experience potential new content.
Just because you think they’ve reversed their philosophy doesn’t mean they have. Clearly they don’t feel the same way, and in the end, it’s their philosophy, not yours. It’s not ArenaNet’s fault that you fail to/refuse to understand their design goals. They know what they’re doing with their game, you do not, no matter how much you want to believe that you do. Just because you think they’re going down a road of endless gear-grinding and player-ignoring doesn’t mean they are.
But, if people can’t accept that, try thinking of it this way:
Prior to this patch, I bet you thought ArenaNet would never introduce your idea of a gear grind, right? But then they did. Therefore, going purely by past precedent, you have terrible judgment. Now you think they’re going to add an endless gear treadmill, right? Chances are, you’ll be wrong about that, too. So calm down!
A ridiculous argument? Yes. But then again, so is most of the rage over this issue.
By your own logic, you have called them Liars. They have told us on several occasions they would do one thing, and now they have done another.
If I tell you I am baking you a cookie and you get excited for a cookie, then I hand you a carrot, does that mean you should not have gotten excited for the cookie? Are you going to eat the carrot when you were told you would get a cookie? Or do you look at the person giving you the carrot and ask why?
Oh really? Feels like they added a gear grind to me!
1 vial of condensed mist essence
50 ectoes
40 crystals
250 t6 fine crafting materialsOh right, that should be SO easy for anyone to obtain.
Exactly, going from 5 Ectos per piece to 50 seems a little like a grind to me. Also going from 5 T6 materials to 250. This is absurd.
This is just for 1 piece. So, to expand on this, going from 60 Ectos for a completed set of Exotics, including Jewelry, to 600 Ectos.
Yeah, no grind. This does not amount to fun for me.
If we go the Karma route, which has not been talked about yet. Baseline of 42k Karma. So, will it be double or ten times as much for a piece of gear? 252k for a full set to 504k or 2,250k (2,520,000) for a full set?
Anet broke off the relationship. You’re hurt. Confused. You want to know what happened, what went wrong. Like any relationship gone bad, does it really matter in the end? Just time to move on……
Very true. I am on the verge of moving on. But in this day of texting and emails, the tone of a what someone is saying can be lost. I want to be certain they have ended a profitable relationship with, what I believe, a large portion of their community.
I would like a response one way or the other. I am pretty sure we will not get one, but I can hope. I may be naive, but I am giving the company a chance to save a customer, and mind you, I am a well paying customer that has put more money in 3 months in to this game, then my 1 year of WoW. That also includes several purchases outside of the monthly fee.
Sorry, was the gap supposed to be bridged? It seems like we are digging a hole instead? Maybe my dictionary is out of date, I should get a new one.
Keep in mind that silence is a response as well.
I am well aware of this and saddened by the actions taken by this company.
We will move on when we are satisfied with a response about the direction. I was going to play tonight but was disgusted at the closing of threads and the brush off to the community.
If we don’t get a response then they will get the same response from players, no more money in the Gem shop. I was planning on spending way too much money in this game because I can, but I guess I can buy other things now.
I think the 5 heal is only limited to ‘small’ heals. Something that is not necessarily a heal. Like vigorous shouts, or whatever the warrior trait that allows Shouts to heal. That would be limited to 5 heals. But, Healing Rain is not limited to 5, nor is the blast finisher of Arcane Wave with a water spell. I don’t have screen shots but I definitely saw a number of heals during the Ancient Karka fight when I laid down some Healing Rain. The number 3 though… not sure on that one, since it is so small I only saw a couple every time as there were only a couple in the area of the spell.
I don’t believe they were all negative. I posted in it myself. I posted about my concern over this game, having nothing negative to say about it. I believe the community is still due a legitimate response from something to do with the core value of the game.
I think the ‘answer’ to the 11000+ thread was not acceptable. We all read the message from Chris Whiteside. Many of the posts were after this response. I believe many of us would like an answer to why the game has taken a drastic turn away from the Manifesto and rhetoric that brought us to buy this game. We want to continue to support this company and game but the answer provided only leaves us with feelings of insecurity, doubt, and regret.
Provide the community with a better response.
Some perspective on me and my playing. Played GW1 since beginning to days before GW2 dropped. Bought all expansions and all costumes for GW1. I supported a game I loved to play.
My issue with this is for casual play it comes down to the rest of the community. I am able to play more than my fiance is able. When she gets on we play together. This is fine for most things. The problem comes when we want to do something else, like dungeons. I consider dungeons to be part of casual play. Previously, they could be done at your leisure for the cosmetic look and potentially for the gear. Now, it will be hard to get people to run those dungeons when we have time because the rewards are not there for those other players.
It comes down to the long term aspect of casual play. If someone is only able to play every other weekend, they will have that much more to do to catch up. And by catch up, I mean, when there is more gear there is that much more to do to get it. When other games release expansions it invalidates their older content and it is not run anymore. GW1 did not do this and it was glorious. You were not just grinding to hit top level so you could play the small percentage of the game where everyone was playing.
For gear we could stomach the 252,000 karma for Orr gear for a long term goal. I am about halfway there, she is not. But since I won’t be more powerful, it didn’t matter if I got it first. When other methods of acquiring new gear come in to play what is the point of getting Exotics anymore. I am not going to drop 252,000 karma on gear that is useless, when I will probably have to spend (just guessing) 504,000 karma. Crafting, sure, so now I need 50 ectos per piece of gear, up from 5! Well, that seems wrong. Not counting the T6 items or anything else. Now, I have to try and get I don’t know how much gold for all of that unless I want to farm, which takes away from the fun that i was planning to have. Or, by paying money for the gold and that is seriously wrong for a stats increase. Also, my numbers may be off for Karma.. it could be 2,520,000 for a full set, if the crafting for the back piece is any indication.
I have a number of friends that have lives and other things they need to do right now. The reason they bought this game was because they could stop for 6 months if they needed and come back to the game and be right where they left off, just more areas to explore. This was wonderful in GW1. I took over a year off from the game. Came back and didn’t need new armor at all. There was new armor I could acquire, but it was not better and I did not need it for anything. I could go to Underworld, FoW, The deep, Urgoz, Sorrow’s furnace, and Mallyx area (can’t recall name right now) and all of the other dungeons and not be at a disadvantage. Sure, there was the PvE skills that got better with more rep. BUT, the best part, you did not have to use them. They made some bosses/events maybe somewhat easier but I could and did do those things without them. That was a huge part of the game, playing as you wanted to play without being force to get certain gear.
Infusions in GW1 was only for the storyline in Prophecies and is not the same thing in GW2. It was part of the storyline and you would get your armor infused while playing the game (1 mission and 1 other area in the game). But it had no stats increase and was a 5 minute gate (You could get someone to run to the spot in about 5 minutes). This was not part of Factions, Nightfall or GWEN.
None of the mechanisms in GW1 invalidated previous content. With ascended gear and FotM it will invalidate the other dungeons and only be run sparingly, with difficulty in finding a group, for the skins themselves.
I am still playing right now, but am losing enthusiasm for the game and am questioning if I want to give money to a company that does not deliver what they have promised.
Not sure if my BS meter is off.. but Reddit is about 50/50 with regard to what is happening with the game. There are a lot more thoughtful posts on it about the game then there are here. But, there is a lot of policing of threads here and merging and general confusion about what you are really looking at/for.
I enjoy the NPC’s interacting with me as I traverse Tyria, asking for help or congratulating me on killing whatever thing they couldn’t kill. But, when the NPC is spamming chat it becomes very annoying. The citizen’s bug was one of those annoying events. Another is at the Pearl Islet area. Braidan (Not sure of spelling) asks everyone around if they have a moment, to kill a champion Shark. This is not a problem, except he contentiously will ask me while doing another event.
I appreciate he has something to tell me, and I want to help, but when there is no one else in the area, I would rather he shut up. I cannot kill a champion by myself. Nor will I try.
If I talk to him once and find out why he wants to talk to me… that should be it for that event. I don’t want to hear from him again. I also don’t want to hear him ask EVERY person that walks by. While in the area doing one event he was asking about another. Many people were walking near him and he was yelling out to everyone. WE DON’T CARE! We will get to you later. Right now we are working on gathering these items, not on your shark in the water that is not affecting us.
This should really apply to any NPCs anywhere. I really don’t want to hear the same thing over and over if I have already talked with that person ( for that event). If I talked with someone and the event ended and then it came back again.. sure, tell me again. But, not continuously while I am doing another event or just looking around an area.
Just wanted to point out from the first post from Linsey Murdock
" So fear not, all existing Legendary weapons, which are currently on par with Exotics, will be upgraded to be on par with Ascended weapons at the same time that we add Ascended weapons to the game"
But, back to dungeons. If you can run a dungeon fine in Rare gear, then why would you get exotic gear if they have ascended gear available? I would not spend time to build an exotic set from tokens unless the difference was visual. If the ascended dungeon gear has the same look as the exotic, then it would be silly to spend 1500? tokens on the exotic gear then try and get 3000? (assuming they just double the tokens) more to get ascended.
Currently, yes, but they mentioned they will add more items later. Also, legendary items will be boosted to Ascended gear. They would not mention this unless there would be ascended weapons. I am talking about when the rest of the gear filters in.
I am playing with a number of alts and have not explored all of the dungeons or map completion or a number of other things. I plan on getting 8 toons to 80 for each profession. At that point I will most likely run dungeons, and that time frame will most likely see more ascended gear. So, the vanilla dungeons will be potentially void of players wanting to run it or so far and few between that I will not be able to run it.
Same sort of thing happened with WoW (My only other MMO). I started in Wrath… I wanted to do the lower level dungeons. All I was able to do was have a level 80 run me through so I could look at the dungeon, I never experienced the content. Nor had the pleasure of using the gear on any toons.
I would like to know if the current dungeons will be getting any sort of boost to the armor you can get?
I have not completed any of them yet and was looking forward to completing them all and having multiple dungeon sets (maybe on several toons). But with a higher tier of gear, and eventually a way to get that gear other places besides the new fractal dungeon, I don’t see many people wanting to run those dungeons anymore.
What I am really asking, is there going to be a reason for people to come back to the current dungeons or are they going to fall by the wayside?
Add me to a list of not wanting a stats treadmill. This will only divide the casuals from the not quite so casuals.
I know a lot of people that will play on and off over the months. This was a great thing in GW1, they could play again a year later and still have their armor be relevant. If there is an introduction to a treadmill then when my very casual friends log in they will have to get the better armor or, depending on how long they haven’t played, maybe even the armor before the best before going for the best.
There will be no more casual play and logging in to play new content. When new dungeons and areas were introduced in GW1 me and my girlfriend could play without having to do anything else but the quests and things leading up to the new content.
Exotics are not expensive to get but when you only play a couple hours a week, it is fairly expensive.
End game should not be more gear. End game should be more story!
When completing an area 100%, I have been getting 2 random items, some crafting mats, and some other thing. This is normal and not the buggy part. I decided to do some lower level areas and when I was about 55 and completed Metrica Province, I received level 17 items. Disappointing but I figured rewards based on area (which is not an incentive for me to complete lesser areas by themselves). BUT, playing another character, level 19, and completing Plains of Ashford, I received two level 26 items.
So, the question is, What are we supposed to receive when completing an area?
This seems completely random or arbitrary on what I will receive from completion. I care very little about what rewards I get (would be nice to be my level at least) but I want it more to be consistent from area to area.
I like to have my map window in the upper right corner of the screen for better viewing but when I do this it takes the loot ‘window’ with it.
What I mean, when you auto-loot, the item pops up above the map for a short period of time. This is very nice because I like knowing I got something neat. When I move the map to the upper right the loot area seems to go with it and stays above the map. When I loot something I no longer see what I am looting.
If I turn off auto-loot I see the actual loot window, but this is not acceptable as I don’t want to click on each item or spam the ‘f’ key multiple times, especially in an Event.
Is assume this is a bug and the loot area should move when you move the map to the upper right.
