I’d like to see a JQ/DB/TC matchup. Though JQ would still win, the margins would be closer. Probably the fairest of the Tier 1 matchups that DB or TC could get.
The biggest problem, and it is fairly obvious after two weeks is that the differences in populations between some of the tiers is too great for these matches to ever work out in any way except blowouts. This is ANets fault for creating the tier rankings in the beginning. Everyone began lumping up in the higher tiers as they assumed a higher ranked server meant more skill and higher notoriety. What we have now is tier 1’s being massively larger than tier 2, and tier 2 being massively larger than tier 3.
Even if you tone down the RNG, it won’t help much because dropping even one tier is too much with the server imbalances.
I don’t mind being the underdog server in this matchup, but I really hope the lag issues I had last night subside in the coming days. It was by far the worst lag I’ve seen since we started playing in the higher tiers. Thought tier 2 was bad, but this is worse. Not sure how JQ and BG handle the lag like this all the time.
Well, if I were the lead designer building the game, I’d have had three separate looking maps depending on color. That would have helped differentiate the game. Much like Eternal Battlegrounds feels different for each color.
Also, maybe the blue color would have some easier to defend keeps and towers (kind of like Hills), whereas green would have more difficult to defend keeps and towers (like Bay).
Roaming soldiers in your own battleland is probably not a bad idea. They could guard Dolyaks around the map for the home color. You kind of get his “home” advantage feel in the Gods supply camp. They should just push that a little further for other areas.
I’m happy for NNK that they finally get to have some fights in their time zone. So for that reason, I’m glad we are in tier 2. It gives them a chance to have fun battles. But, from a North American viewpoint, I don’t really care if we are in tier 2 or tier 3, or 4. We’ll have decent battles in all of these tiers. So if the bandwagonners leave, so be it.
That’s hilarious. I guess there really is no reason to grind for rank.
As others have stated. The solution is to make it so you can only bring someone back when you are out of combat.
Wrecking crew used to one of the best guilds on DB for WvW. But they went all Euro on us.
Perspective is always an interesting thing. YB has now been stuck in T3 for almost 2 months. During this time we early on fought back from being distant 3rd to SoS to beating them. We have fought back from being distant 3rd to mag to at least closing the gap. During all this time we have faced a server in DB where we had zero chance of ever competing for the weekly score. For 2 months we have fought through this, and during our prime time, done what we can and even now with DBs new guilds, we fight. I would love to see what DBs reaction really would have been if faced with 2 months of no real chance. No way to really tell, but I am pretty kitten proud of YB showing up for 2 months when there was no chance overall
You know, before you guys ever came up to tier 3, we were stuck fighting FA/KAIN/TC for weeks on end. In fact, we were stuck as the #2 server for many weeks.
On an unrelated note:
If people want to find blame for the current state of things with zergs running around capping and abandoning keeps/towers, it is the stupid WXP patch that did this. Not server imbalance.
Mag has always had very strong North American evening coverage. In fact I’d say it is tier 2 level coverage during that time period. The problem Mag has is they just do not have that coverage for the rest of the day.
So does boasting that you are winning battles during your strongest time period really mean anything?
Kain will probably be very similar to dragonbrand when they come down. Their Asia/Sea numbers are fairly large. So it will probably be another round of Kain taking everything overnight, and then having even battles in NA evenings.
Also, I would guess we (Dragonbrand) will probably get beat pretty badly when we move up to tier 2. So it is possible we will flip-flop with Kain for a while between the tiers. Kind of like Mag was doing between tier 4 and tier 3 a while back.
Yak’s did a good job last night during NA primetime. Was great fun fighting them in the DB BL’s last night. I think the Yak’s have a good chance of locking up 2nd place this week.
I didn’t notice the new transfers much last night. But, transfer night is always chaotic. The differences will probably be more noticeable during the week.
Well, if rumors of Kain’s self-destruction are true, then it is very possible DB will get propelled into Tier 2 in less than a month. While I’m not looking forward to fighting FA and TC at the same time, our Asian guilds would be happy for the competition.
I think Dragonbrand has Kaineg, FA, and Tarnished Coast to thank for some of our improvement. We had to step up the game to fight those larger servers. And for that matter SOS that first week they moved into tier 3.
No one else mentioned this, but one of the biggest “hardcore” parts of DAOC early on was that there were no in-game maps. You had to either have paper maps or your memory to figure out where you were. Which meant that people that played a lot, had a distinct advantage in the game.
I feel sorry for DAOC players that started playing after Trials of Atlantis as you really missed the core game. By ToA, the game was starting to suck.
Future games need to figure out grouping. There has to be a compromise between Guild Wars 2 that doesn’t require grouping at all in WvW, versus the 1-hour “looking for players” party building that was in DaoC.
Let’s not forget that if you died in mass, everyone would have to re-port which took like 15 minutes of waiting around. I think gamers having to wait that long now would totally freak out.
I did like the /stick command though for following other people. I also like that certain classes were required to succeed. Like you had to have a healer (for resses and heals), you had to have a bard (for movement speed), etc.
Guild Wars 2 is far more casual. You can play WvW all day long and successfully without ever grouping or really talking to anyone else. Just listen in on voice chat and read the (T) messages.
Of the three chars I play (warrior, ele, ranger), I find I get the most loot bags from my ranger. Stay at range, and pound on the enemy with both longbow and shortbow mix. Works great.
Also, it’s too bad Mag and Yaks can not easily meet in Tier 4 or 3. Because you guys are both very similar in numbers and your overall scoring. You’d probably make perfect opponents for each other.
So far SOS is the top tier 3 server. But not by a huge margin. Certainly the fights are pretty even for most of the day and night. I think the score doesn’t do justice to how even things are. This matchup is certainly a 100 times better than what we’ve had the past 3 or 4 weeks with the Tier 2 servers dominating our tier.
Please, please, please stay in tier 3 SOS.
The solution is the consolidate the servers and remove Tier 8 completely.
TC wouldn’t know this, but when Kaineg ran through tier 3, their Asian guilds actually dominated our DB guilds. So basically they dominated our battlelands all day and night. Worst beating we’ve had. Though TC has definitely been pretty rough.
Then what are you going to do? In my opinion DB puts very little effort into being better, to adjust to the population issues we are facing. We are content to be carried by an off hour population that gets most of our points. Get better, play different. We do not have to win PPT to have fun.
I’m really not sure it is our play ability. Having seen how poorly a server like Kaineg plays and their dominance, I think it is purely a numbers game. Our server, while larger, seems to be made up of mostly PvE and PvP users.
All I can say is at least Yaks and Mag can drop down a tier and clean up every few weeks to make themselves feel better. Dragonbrand has been stuck in the middle (as the only true tier 3 server) and gets defeated by the T2’s that come down. No fun at all. And there is no change in site.
Nice! We held garisson due to the server reset.
How could Dragonbrand losing it’s Asian guilds help them? Last time I checked, even if FA moves up into Tier 2, that means another Tier 2 server (Tarnished Coast) is coming down to tier 3. So removing guilds from DB’s server will only make it worse for them.
The ranking/server system is hosed.
When FA’s overnight crew goes to sleep, Dragonbrands NNK zerg starts to play.
What is really amazing is to see how strong Kaineg’s coverage was during that same period last week. NNK and our other Asian guilds were getting killed by K last week. Really puts in perspective why they moved to tier 2, and why Dragonbrand will stay at tier 3.
This whining about hackers is getting insulting. Just report them already so they can be gotten rid of. We have zero control over hackers and every server has them. Your hackers are reported. Why aren’t ours?
Because then Mag would not have an excuse for sucking in tier 3.
I never could figure out why ANet went to so much trouble to create a completely separate set of PvP gear, but then did not also use this gear for WvW.
I levelled my Elementalist from 50 to 80 through WvW. You level very fast if you run with a zerg/guild group and take keeps. In fact, I levelled so fast, I had a hard time keeping my equipment up to date. I ended up just using blue/green gear and not bothering with anything better until I got around level 75.
I think it is only a matter of a few months before Anet consolidates the six lowest population servers into 3. This will remove tier 8 completely. The game has been out for a while, so the population will only decrease from here on out (or at least until a boxed expansion set).
Glad to see FA back. If we are going to lose, let us lose to players that know what they are doing.
this is why 8v8 groups roamed DAOC . yes there was still a zerg but the roaming groups were everywhere and making more points
8-main groups were pretty much required in DAOC because you did not heal very quickly from damage, and so you needed your healers in your group doing full-time healing and rezing.
In Guild Wars 2, players heal themselves, so you have little need for grouping and this means Zergs everywhere.
You can’t really change this without changing the game mechanics. Not going to happen. If you want smaller 8-man battles in WvW, better look for another game.
Maybe i am mistaken, but doesn’t everyone look alike… save gear design?
You are mistaken. Unless your bandwidth is REALLY terrible.
So… no ratings reset. Kaineng goes up to tier 2 and Fort Aspenwood joins us.
Rejoice fellow Magrubmans, Tohrbline open season is upon us once again!
Yeah, except FA play VERY well (unlike Kain). Not sure I’m looking forward to fighting them and their portal bombs again.
I really think just having some type of raid/squad channel where you invite people to this system and you get the following:
1.)You can see the players on the map as blue dots
2.)You can chat with them in /raid /squad or whatever
Don’t need anything more complicated than that to make a difference.
Allow maybe 40 or 50 people max.
I for one welcome our Tier 8 ranking next week. It will allow us to pull a Kaineng, and crush the other servers in our grouping while mentioning how much we have learned from the experience.
This reset will be rather hilarious for Maguuma and Dragonbrand as both Tier 3 servers (who are currently fighting Kaineg) will drop into last place or close to it. This means several weeks of completely crushing the other lower ranked servers.
Even if Mag and DB get put together, I feel bad for the 3rd server that will get railroaded by this recalculation.
A name change should not cost more gems than a complete character makeover. I’d think 250 gems is a more realistic price. That would still mean you will be paying out 600 gems if you want to completely re-do your character looks and name.
I get this message all the time in WvW. Mostly from saying “ty” or “thanks” after someone saves me from death.
