Well there is your problem you where playing thief. ArenaNet hit the thief so much with the Nerf hammer that it has been mutilated beyond any hope of redemption. Out of all classes the thief if the biggest example of how little the devs know about PvP and how each class contributes to the team as a whole.
There is a thief npc in one of the bandit camps in brisban wildlands that uses pistol/torch. He has a skill where he fires his bullets through the torch fire to stack burning on you. I though HoT would introduce torch to thief because their is already an NPC with this weapon set.
This 1sec cooldown when you miss a stealth attack makes no sense. It’s so DIFFERENT & STRANGE this even exist. The only reason I can think of why ANET targeted the thief as the ONLY CLASS to get a 1 second debuff if your attack misses in stealth (since anybody can be stealth) is because they have ‘stealth attacks’. I would rather they completely REMOVE STEALTH ATTACKS, just let us auto-attack like other classes, than we get this 1 second wait period.
Like another poster said “PvP is to fast to be one second behind.”
Anet doesn’t know what the role of the thief is. From its latest patch I guess stealth isn’t part of that role. I vote for them removing the Shadow Arts trait line and all stealth from thief. Why even give the thief stealth when mesmer and engineer do a better job at it.
Shadow Arts is highly effective for one simple reason. Most thieves run one or two long cooldown deception utilities. A 20% reduction on Shadowstep matters. A 20% reduction on Hide in Shadows matters. A 20% reduction on Shadow Refuge matters.
That single trait alone is a reason to run Shadow Arts. Blind on stealth is an exceptional trait. Damage reduction in stealth helps mitigate after you jump in for an attack and then go into stealth as part of your partial disengage. Stealth on steal is an exceptional utility to have.
Given the complaints that have, rightfully, been raised about boons making it hard to manage fighting certain classes…you would think more people would be enthusiastic about making more builds able to steal boons.
My friend I think you didn’t read all the patch notes:
“Stealth Attacks: All stealth attack skills will now have a 1-second recharge between uses.”
This negated that new trait in SA. Never forget to read the fine print or you will regret it.

Good luck with that. With the recent patch that contains the single biggest nerf to d/d in the entire games history kiss your dream goodbye.

I’ve done some testing and this doesn’t affect pistol since it unstealth you on use. Staff stealth skill can’t be use twice due to its long animation. It only really affects Sword/dagger, dagger/dagger, & dagger/pistol. Ohhhhhh does this get hit hard. You need PERFECT strikes, you have to predict where your opponent is going to be since the sword and dagger stealth attack takes 1/2 sec to execute at which point they could of moved. MOVED. Dam are dagger anything thiefs screwed.
Now fight a stealth player like a mesmer or engineer. You my friend should just type /sleep and give theme the free kill.

Here is the cycle. Brainless PvP/PvE noob player gets owned by thief and then runs to arena net and cries → Arena Net nerf thiefs in response → Thief’s rage →Trolls/Thief haters talk kitten on thief’s and/or impersonate thief’s and praise Arena Net for patch changes to thief → Arena Net looks at these posts and pats themselves on the back → Cycle Repeats.
Meanwhile on the sidelines………other PvP/PvE player who are not thief’s and/or noobs but understand the game better shake their heads at the situation felling pity for thiefs but don’t voice it since its not affecting them.
Fear not Thorin for Arena Net has listened to your plea! At least i think they tried to listen. They must of misheard you cause they put another ‘blade of grass’ to ‘obstruct’ your attack. Here it is:

This must be a mistake. I trust Arena Net and not those ‘conspiracy theorist’ that say that thief’s been getting nerfed in every patch since launch. There is NO WAY they have a biased against thief’s.
Guess you were right. Nerf to venom’s & to stealth attacks + 5% reduction across the board for staff.

….that’s gonna hurt the only reason I’m brought into raids cause I can’t contribute in ANY OTHER WAY cause my class sucks and this is the only thing thief’s got going for it.
“Venomous Aura: The area-of-effect aspect of this trait has been merged into venoms as baseline. The radius has been reduced from 360 to 240. The recharge reduction has moved to Leeching Venoms.”
….WHAT?!!? they reduced the range. Guess they did it cause they merge it as part of venom skills themselves but who in their right mind would run venom’s without ‘Venomous Aura’ in the 1st place.
“Leeching Venoms: This trait no longer grants might to allies it is applied to. This trait now reduces the recharge of venom abilities.
Devourer Venom: The number of stacks that this skill applies has been reduced from 3 to 2.
Basilisk Venom: The number of stacks that this skill applies has been reduced from 2 to 1. Stun duration has been increased from 1 second to 1.5 seconds.”
…Across the board nerf to venom’s.
I also have the same issue as everyone on this thread. The two fixes described here. Turn vertical sync off or run in compatibility mode windows 7 worked for me. This only started after a recent patch.
Running Windows 10 with gtx 970m (Driver: 359.06).
Same configuration as probonohitman.3246.
Seems like most of you guys haven’t played thief for any length of time. The ONLY viable build for WvW right now is P/D build. For tpvp their is NO LONGER ANY VIABLE BUILD. A good thief has to work SO MUCH HARDER, by playing at almost godly levels of skills to even stand toe-to-toe with other classes that know what they are doing. They have been getting nerfed since beta. If you die to a thief its because you weren’t paying attention. A.k.a. since our class sucks we look for OPPORTUNITIES to down weakened players. Don’t even think of fighting other classes fairly in a dual (you wont stand a chance). Always go for 2 vs 1 or for guys with less than 30% hp.
I don’t know about you guys, but as a D/D backstab thief I can take then down pretty easy. There minions make convinient targets for cloak an dagger to go invisible. With all the minions around I can keep staying invisible and backstabing for lots of damage. My condition removal on stealth helps alot to keep me going as well as gaining health while invisible with my trait in shadow arts. Thiefs also have a signet that removes conditions and refills endurance when used as well as shadowstep that when used removes 3 conditions.
