Elementalist all the way.
Hopefully their proposed changes come soon, because I remember all too well the ‘RNG’ of D3 and how I never got that one item to net me enough gold to matter even in the slightest. This game is a different story for once. When I opened the box after defeating the ancient karka, I received the precursor Dusk. I actually had to do a double take to make sure I wasn’t seeing things. It is fantastic that I got something so valuable, but it is my opinion that with enough work, anyone should be able to get this and not be at the mercy of RNG.
In my opinion, it’s alot harder to hit DR on a lower lvl character, but for someone playing in a place like Cursed Shore, it can be hit relatively easy. Either that, or they tuned drops down for high lvl areas.
This is always relevant when talking about bots o.o
Too bad they aren’t doing enough with getting rid of them.
this from omgwtfbbq, nah you guys must be legit ;P
And this is supposed to mean what exactly? Didn’t realize an account name made someone legit or not.
“Gate of Madness has managed to stay in the top half of WvW rankings by being better with less players.”. Sorry, but no. You managed to stay there due to excessive orb hacking. And until this is fixed, I doubt anyone would transfer to your server due to its poor reputation.
Actually no, Orbs help in the grand scheme of things, but they in no way guarantee a victory in any way. This orb hacking you mentioned, is no more serious than what is happening on other servers who have the same problem with the few hackers that do it. GoM only seems to have a bigger rep for it because so many people on the forums decided to post about it in different threads.
We do have some really good players in WvW, it’s just like the OP said though, we just lack the numbers.
I’m from Sea of Sorrows and I think it’s very unfair to judge Gate of Madness for one persons doing, however they are doing absolutely little to help the situation in which I don’t absolve that. All I’m interested in someone to blame.
How could we “help” the situation exactly?
I wouldn’t say to judge the entire server. But the players who are benefiting from those cheated orbs, you can bet I will be leading every attack force I can against them.
This in itself is a contradiction. You say you wouldn’t judge the entire server, but you go on to say everyone is benefiting from these cheated orbs and you will lead every attack against them. So, are we to just stop playing WvW until Anet fixes this? How does that seem fair for the legit players?
Yes, let’s just punish every single player on GoM because of what a few people did. That makes just perfect sense, it’s mind-boggling. No one besides Anet can do anything about it, all we can do is report this said offense and hope it gets taken care of soon. It’s amazing how some people make it look like it was the entire server’s fault and not just the hacker’s.
I agree that the person responsible should be immediately banned, but some suggesting the that entire server be punished? That is just ridiculous. I really like the guild I’m in on GoM, but I can’t stay in a doomed server. I should have transferred during the first week after this happened the first time…
Elementalists are in a somewhat weird place at the moment. On one hand, we can do excellent damage in PVE group situations and on the other our low base HP can’t survive burst damage from other professions. I think the first thing that needs to hapkitten that our base HP needs to be raised and be comparable to the other professions, or have our burst damage increased.
Overall, it is a very fun and rewarding class to play once you get the hang of it.
I am on GoM, and this is completely unacceptable. This sort of low play makes me not want to touch WvW ever again. We are already classified as the cheater world and I fear it is only going to get worse with everyone grouping against us. Totally sucks how it only takes a few people to ruin it for everyone.
I was just using MF gear for everything and I had little to no problems doing PVE. Finally decided on using 2 zerker and the rest knight’s for the main gear, and full zerker on accessories. This way I’m not completely glass cannon for dungeons/WvW.
Been 80 since the first week and only now decided on gear…sometimes I hate making decisions :p
Since you are doing dungeons with scepter/dagger, I would suggest a mix of carrion and knight’s. Condition damage is very useful in a dungeon setting, but not in large group DE’s or in wvw.
I use a mix of berserker and knight’s gear since I’m going for crit, as it is both useful for PVE and wvw settings. My stats are 2.2k power, 2k precision, 1k toughness, and 1.1k vitality. It works pretty well for me for all weapon types.
Ok. Been sitting on a good amount of gold for awhile and I can’t decide if I want to go full zerker set or add in some valkyrie for the vit. Planning to do dungeons and wvw with this set.
Suggestions?
I’m beginning to think that every MMO or any game with RPG elements has no end-game. Why? Because I see these type of threads in every forum I visit. If you rushed to lvl 80 and got the best gear possible as quickly as you could and are now bored, that’s pretty much your fault. I also rushed to 80, but I am still having a lot of fun playing because I enjoy the genre and the lore that this game has.
Hate to bring up other games but, MoP was just released and guess what, someone reached lvl 90 within 12 hours. Then after two weeks, the first raid will drop and people will rush to complete it. Once that happens and they have the best gear possible, they don’t have an endgame anymore, at least until they release new content.
So the concept of “endgame” is flawed, because everyone wants something different and there will always be those people that have to rush through content to be the first and not really enjoy it. If that’s your thing, then more power to you
I can’t tell you what I want out of my “end-game” experience, because the very idea of “end-game” is terrible and I’m glad to see it done away with in this genre. This idea that everything post-max level in an MMORPG should be some endless stat growth is ridiculous. Gameplay should never take a backseat to numbers.
Good gameplay, on the other hand, is what I want out of any game I buy. I got it with GW2. Whether or not it holds my interest after I “finish” it is irrelevant. No first-person shooter has an “end-game”. No fighter has an “end-game”. This viewpoint that an MMORPG needs to have some constant carrot chase to be enjoyable is absurd.
That’s one of the very “crazy” ideas that ArenaNet set out to prove with GW2.I got no increased jump height or run speed every time I finished a game of Sonic the Hedgehog. I got no bonus to weapon damage after playing 10 or so games of Unreal Tournament. Fei Long’s Shienkyaku didn’t get more powerful every time I used it. Hell, I didn’t even get to play at all after the conclusion of most RPGs. But what I did get was fun gameplay. And I got that with GW2. And really, that’s all any reasonable gamer wants from a game.
So much this. And also, how many people play games like CoD or Battlefield? Why do they play? The answer is, because they are fun, I even clocked in over 2 days worth in BF3 matches. I am so sick of people bringing the concept of an endgame or lack there-of in a game that has just launched. I saw it….no wait scratch that..still do see it everyday in the Diablo 3 forums. Seems like if any game with RPG elements doesn’t have an endgame like WoW, it doesn’t have one at all. Not everyone likes to run a ton of instances/raids just to be able to do the next set. I prefer to do whatever I want at any time, but hey that’s just me
It is a very fun profession to play, but it does get a little frustrating at higher lvls due to poor scaling of our abilities and hp. The Elementalist is a very versatile profession that when played correctly can yield good results, however it also means you have to work twice as hard as others who can just spam one or two abilities for the same affect.
Just remember to experiment with your abilities and you will do fine
80 Elementalist, 3 low lvl alts 8/10(Will go back to 10/10 once they balance my favorite class correctly)
Vitality vs. Condition Damage vs. Precision and Critical %

I would choose One since it suits a variety things like wvw and large group events better. Now if you were completely dungeon focused, Three would be a better option.
How every single MMO to date(except for a very few exceptions):
Higher survivability = less damage to compensate
Lower survivability = more damage output/CC
Generally this is how balance is achieved.
How GW2 Elementalist is:
Lowest survivability = lowest damage output(but we can be great support for other classes!)
Most of our skills need a damage buff and/or have some form of CC added. We can do pretty good as support, but ele’s can’t be delegated to just that role. With a staff, our only somewhat decent damage dealing skills come from fire. Lightning has 1 interrupt and almost no damage, which contradicts what the tooltip says. Water has healing, but none of it does enough to be worth focusing on. Earth can have good damage, but it is over a very long period of time, and you can burst for more damage using fire.
I can kill multiple mobs in PVE, but it takes twice, if not more, of the effort to do so than other classes. PVP is a different story. Classes like the warrior can do our dps and more, while at the same time having a ton more defense and hp.
Pretty much comes down to: we have to work very hard for very little
I have to say that I agree with most of the previous posts. My damage while in PVE can be somewhat decent, but with no good CC or damage mitigation it’s not even worth the little damage we do. In WvW though, I feel almost like deadweight since my attacks can be avoided quite easily, and to top it off, every class can out-dps me by a large margin. Anyway, love these suggestions.
Is it just me, or did mobs especially in Cursed Shore get buffed? Seems like there is even more of them now and they even hit harder. Or am I just going crazy?
On Gates of Madness, we have a few guilds that focus on wvw, but due to the complete one sided fight right now, I see many people saying that they refuse to do it anymore. We can take a few supply camps/towers but they are quickly retaken, and it’s demoralizing. I for one, am quickly losing all interest in playing wvw since you really can’t do anything when you are outnumbered 3 to 1.
Can I just say that I want my dervish class back. Most fun class I’ve ever played in an MMO. Other than that, I plan on making a mesmer next, don’t really care for the melee classes.
All i have to say for struggling eles: stack condition damage, apply bleeds, slow and burn and kite. The amount of damage conditions do is insane if specced correctly. Stop looking for big numbers and understand that to properly play and ele you have to take advantage of the massive amounts of control each tree gives you and keep every element on cd almost constantly.
ie: open with meteor shower, switch to lightning and throw an aoe stun to keep them in, switch to earth and apply bleed, then apply slow and kite while everything dies. That’s just one example, if you have ranged mobs, throw a shield while u apply conditions then go mist forms while they bleed away while sitting in your aoe.
Spamming fire spells while standing still will not work well.
This is what I do, but in a different order. I start with earth cond. damage and switch to fire for more cond. and burst damage. Most mobs die pretty quickly. Planning on changing it up for either scepter/dagger or dual dagger though.
I used to do this with some of my FPS games. Never would’ve thought to try it with this game, I might just have to try it out
I often feel the same way about my ele while playing around in Orr. Although I can usually kill up to 3 mobs at a time, it does bring me close to death if I don’t play perfectly.
Elementalist damage needs to be balanced in a way that we can deal enough damage to justify being so squishy. I have full confidence that Anet will address this in future patches, so hopefully it’s sooner rather than later.
