Since the new patch today I get disconnected every few mins, It’s very frustrating. I’ve never had any issues until the latest patch. Infact my friend is playing gw2 on his computer via the same connection with no issues.
Anyone else having issues?
Hi All,
Recently started playing GW2 and have rolled characters from Warrior, Guardian, Mesmer and Ranger.
Despite typically playing Guardian/Warrior type rolls since I can remember I decided to play ranger and I have to say it’s seriously an enjoyable profession to play. Obviously, there are flaws and there are plenty of threads that talk about that.
A few things have crossed my mind about how the typical ranger class has always been ‘built’ from a games developer point of view and a lot of it is centered about its pet and their pet abilities, boons etc.
This is my opinion and I just wanted to hear other people’s thoughts, I’m not criticising the current way it’s been built but trying to compliment it. So here goes:
Utilities that actually affect the ranger:
Utilities that give abilities to the normal firing of arrows from bow
- 10s of Fire Arrows (70% chance to cause burning)
- 10s of Ice Arrow (70% chance to freeze)
- Next 5 shots cause AOE damage (explosive)
(Ability to switch between them but CD would apply, like pet)
This would make the ranger class more dynamic and if the pet does die then the ranger still has enough in his arsenal to affect the tide of battle.
Other arrow type abilities:
- Adding an secondary ability to the shortbow #4 crippling shot, to be able to pull the enemy towards you. (lasso)
My main thinking about these ideas is more to do with not neccessarily increasing the damage output but being able to CC more and play a more strategic rolled, than mass zerg. (These would allow rangers to become extremely useful in skirmish).
So rangers what do you think ?

Default – non-piercing shots is definitely something I would condone with the ability to have peircing shots later BUT with the option to toggle between the two.
If the ranger is an ‘expert’ then the decision to purposely shoot an arrow to be either is surely an expected choice.
Could you imagine all the poor low lvls that start playing and have 3/4 additional enemies that have been accidentally aggroed ?
Just want to give my support to the OP. I love the ranger and also loved the Hunter in WOW. However, both games failed to make the classes beneficial to end game content.
If the hunter’s main attribute is the pet, then the pet should possess something to make it worth while. I don’t agree that pet’s shouldn’t take any damage but if they had a 90% damage reduction constant across any damage (single or aoe) then I think this would give the ‘edge’ that would actually produce some very exciting and variable gameplay adding a new layer to a ranger.
Could you imagine a full ‘range’ styled play with a devourer and long bow, that would be awesome!
My main gripe with the pet, is when trying to sneak around areas and then realising the pet has aggroed 20 other kitten-ing npc enemies. Waste time killing and then get killed by a passing enemy player.
Stow/call pet should be instant or at least aggro should be very minimal.
I actually really don’t like the 2 legged animation, it looks really clumsy.
However the four legged running animation is awesome and elegant, well on my leopard like female charr. I reckon the four legged animation should be default.
:)
Nothing wrong with the animation. It’s just that it seems to go in slow motion.
I suppose if it was speeded up a little, it would make it seem like they were running rather than skipping. haha.
