It doesn’t matter how easy/hard they are to obtain. What matters is you are not able to create a new character, test things out and delete it without losing money.
It has no difference how and why and for how much unlocks can be obtained.
Only thing that matters is that this fights against everything they said about what spvp would be.
It’s quite clear that this is just a business move. PvP playerbase don’t spend as much cash on the gems as PvE players do. I guess Anet doesn’t like it that you are able to just create and delete characters as you want. With this change you have to invest time/currency to unlock everything. Naturally this means you will be more “attached” to the character and will hesitate to delete it so easily. Sounds like a perfect plan to make PvP players buy more character slots if they want to test out new professions.
I don’t understand: why is this a problem here, when in GW1 it was exactly the same situation? You play pvp THEN you can unlock a skill THAT will give you more possibilities.
Because this is not GW1. Must be very hard to understand that? If you want to unlock a lot of things to feel rewarded, go play GW1 then. I bought GW2 because I thought you could create a new char and hop in the mists with all the gear/traits/runes etc. available for me to test out.
Also we whine because we got lied to:

The addition of new skills and traits on a regular basis will of course mean expanded variety of abilities, builds, and tactics in PvP as well. As these additional skills and traits are added, they’ll be automatically unlocked and available for competitive PvP just like all existing skills/traits work today.
Much competitive, such lies, so wrong.
Helpfully provided in the other thread by Jamais vu.5284, whom is clearly an intelligent consumer with critical thinking skills and a memory: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/
Specifically,

This quote is pure gold! I’m waiting for dev post that can explain why we have been lied to since the start?
For PvP players this game had 3 selling points: 1.) Level playing field for everyone with access to all gear/traits. 2.) No monthly fee. 3.) Instant level cap in PvP
What keeps all 200 pvp players playing is 1.) No monthly fee and 2.) Great combat mechanics. 3.) Level playing field.
You are removing number 3 (already started with the new heals and that didn’t go so well^^) and with this direction, you will lose more of the players who you lied to and scammed them to buy your “competitive pvp” game.
Not to mention the stubborn idiocy going on and not wanting to realise the obvious…. even if slapped in the face.
Oh the irony
Just the need to explain you that says enough what u know about group/team and big scale fights. No offense.
None taken, but this clearly works both ways
Neither have or want to prove something. I’ve already done that when I had the time and wanted to…
You clearly wanted to prove something(prove a point?) when you came to this thread bashing people who participated in the tournament. For this game type you and your superior knowledge has yet to prove anything. Actions speak louder than words.
And again,in TEAM fights regroups and boons sharing/spreading and the play with combo fields is what distinguishes the good from the bad.
I’m not sure why you are so fixed on giving 20vs20 type of tactics in a thread for 6vs6 tournament? AoE caps at 5 so in 20man team you have strength in numbers with the heals and blasts. If you group up in 6vs6 like that you will be AoE nuked and the pressure is just too much to blast heal through.
In smaller scale fights spreading can be more beneficial than clustering up.
I’m not trying to be rude or anything, but comparing/criticizing the tactics between 20vs20 and 6vs6 is just not possible.
I am aware of the rules. Some teams used Thieve’s steath mechanics and didnt have problems capping… The guard can go directly into the fight…

See how the fight opens in this video: First player is down in the FIRST 2 seconds of the fight.
1st: In your previous post you said that even 1 player failing the Veil makes a huge difference in WvW. So you were talking about full team stealth like you do in WvW. Don’t change your mind now. In my post i said FULL team veil is a nono.
2nd: You said stealth openers were not used and now you link me to a video where stealth opener WAS used? Make up your mind. And it was used like players always use it in spvp = not every member of the team is stealthed.
@Jinx: So why didn’t any of these wvw guilds with superior tactics sign up then? It would have been cake walk for them right?
If you noticed the rules, you would have seen that the middle point had to be captured in order to be allowed to engage the Lord. Using full team Veil or some other stealth opener would have been a gift to the enemy team because you can’t cap while stealthed = few extra ticks for opponent for free.
Blasting Water Fields or stacking might/swiftness is not used in WvW only. Not sure why you think that.
Any kind of unlocking, even if it’s 1 copper for rune set, is too much and very bad direction for the game to take.
The beauty of this game is the level playing field. The second you change that philosophy, you will start losing players.
Most of the new players buy GW2 because they have heard from their friends etc. that there is no gear treadmill and you can start playing almost instantly knowing that only thing holding you back is skill(and balance ofc.).
And us who have played from the start for sure got interested in the PvP aspect because of this.
Stop talking about that blablabla is confusing new players. What confuses new players is a veteran player with all unlocks kicking their kitten and they don’t know why it’s happening. I for one play this game pretty much only for 2 things: No monthly fee and no gear grind in PvP. You will lose a lot of players, new and old, if this change goes live.
I refuse to duel those types of thieves. The attack once then stealth and regen and remove condis while being completely invisible. Those duels are long and boring and not fun at all.
Did you even watch the video? He clearly has a daze on his Steal, so he is at least 30 points in Trickery. He also is not gaining health or removing condis in Stealth. Looks nothing like a Shadow Arts build.
well yes thats understandable, but thats something to be expected when trying to predict things a year down the road. highfalutin ideas are met with the realities of budget/time/programming restraints and things become impossible to achieve because of the limited resources at hand.
and we got e-sport and it was met with (of course) more massive threads of scathing negative comments, bitter criticism, flaming against devs, scoffing and bashing with hardly a peep of gratitude (and hardly a dollar made in revenue).
so whats the point? anything they do is met with heavy qq no matter what. from an economic view spvp is nothing but a ceaselessly discontented black hole of anet resources which provides absolutely no return for the company except more discontent
Well i don’t know what to tell you. All i can say is first impressions are VERY important and when you make promises, you better back it up from the start or this kind of negative atmosphere is inevitable. If they had launched the game with all the core features the negative remarks would be not so common.
People are so fed up they show their frustration in every chance they get now.
i dont think pvprs realize how whiney and eternally unsatisfied they really are. i mean how eager would you be to cater to a group of people who nonstop demands changes with angry bitter posts and attacks developers with scathing mean-spirited criticism on a daily basis cause you paid 60 bucks 10 months ago.
You don’t get it. It’s not about the money. Not at all. It’s about broken promises. Go watch the hyped up manifesto video and count how many of the points actually exist in the game. Not only that, but the fact this game was marketed and hyped up as a PvP focused game that is gonna be focusing on E-sports makes me(and many others) very frustrated!
I feel cheated big time when i get into this awesome game with E-sports in mind and we get delivered half of a game, or a beta version of spvp.
You need to understand the anger and disappointment of people after they have been lied to. It makes it worse that this game has great gameplay and lots of potential…all in vain.
Edit: Great post Kline! I agree about everything you said there.
(edited by roka.5231)
I agree. I have been saying this for a while. Cross profession combos was a big factor when i got interested in the game. There are few useful ones, but all in all they are not rewarding enough.
I would like to see AOE damage nerfed in general and maybe make combos more usefull that way.
Combo fields that do fairly weak damage on their own, but with finishers they would become strong AOE’s like we see now. Imagine some of the marks/wells from necro being weaker by themselves, but with combos would spread condi’s?
Or a firefield that won’t cause burning, but when blasted would do direct damage instead?
TLDR; Bring down AOE damage across the board, bring new interesting combo’s to encourage more teamplay.
