Thanks all! This was helpful.

My main is engi so I think that’s where I’ll feel most comfortable (though I got used to PvPing with everything except melee classes).

The metabattle wiki was particularly helpful for looking at build. Unfortunately I hate toolkit and that seems to be meta for engi.

I come back to GW2 every once in awhile and rarely do I do anything besides PvP. It’s nice to know what the current meta state of the game is before jumping in and having my butt handed to me by the FOTM.

What’s currently happening in GW2 PvP that a new/returning player should have a head’s up on before jumping in?

Hi all. I’ve been away from the game for almost a year now and thinking about returning to scratch that itch.

What roles engis are currently playing will determine if I play my main engi or reroll something else.

What are the major roles Engi’s are currently filling? I’m interested in sPvP, WvWvW, PvE, dungeons, you name it.

Not sure about tPvP but this was pretty strong in hot joins pre-Mad Thorn patch. It is just OK now.

I’ve seen guardians successfully keep their teammates alive (albeit it’s not all healing, but it works). I’ve got a great healing rotation going to keep my group alive in dungeons. But, if I ever try to heal in sPvP it ends up going extremely poorly and I go back to might stacking so I can kick butt.

Has anyone successfully played a healing support role in sPvP? Note: I’m not necessarily talking tPvP as I don’t have the time or team to participate, but that’s not out of the discussion. If so, link your build please.

Engineer sPvP Turret build, Flame and Frost

I liked the “feel” of this build on paper (compared to the other turret builds) so I tested it a little tonight.

I felt it was VERY strong against melee classes. Thieves and guardians were no problem…didn’t see any warriors lol

However, I had a lot of trouble against bursty specs, especially might stacking engineers and shatter mesmers.

Edit: One thing I did notice was that Accelerant Packed Turrets felt like a useless trait. My turrets only died when there was AoE damage and this was typically caused by ranged attacks such as elementalists or grenades. In fact, I felt my turrets stayed up during most fights.

My opinion is that engineers would be better served in pvp if the 2 and 3 skills timers were reversed. In hot-join matches, more often than not, more than one person is trying to stomp you out so the #2 ability doesn’t help. However, if we could use the knockback instead of the pull-toward to stop the first stomp, that might buy us time to use the pull-toward on the next opponent.

The reality is, in sPvP, mesmers, warriors, and thieves have far greater downed abilities than the other classes simply because they can escape the initial stomp (sometimes multiple stomps) and it buys them more time to dps an opponent who is low.

All the responses here are pretty much what I’m looking for (not add-ons but completely customizable UI)

Personally, I’m color blind and would like to change the color of my HP circle as well. These are all minor things and shouldn’t take much coding to add.

The question is: has Anet said this won’t happen? or are we wise in continuing to suggest these things so that eventually they catch Anet’s attention?

Looking for a pvp burst build.

Sort of true that in a pug you should be well-rounded for survivability. It’s also true that you can play a hit-and-run build like a p/p condition + elixir for engi or backstab thief and rack up the glory.

Does that mean the answer is no?

I understand trying to be different, but sometimes limiting your audience’s options (just because someone else gave them too many) isn’t the answer. It seems like over-kill if they won’t let us move around the UI.

Will we ever be able to do the following?

- Move windows around the UI
- Separate chat windows (I’d love to have a separate box just for chat with friends)
- Move individual toolbar buttons around the UI
- Get rid of / change the look or skin of UI items like the HP counter
- Add target of target

I understand there won’t be add-ons and that’s great, but the fact that I can hardly customize my UI (aside from resize a few items) is very frustrating.
