Tarnished Coast
Your favorite Charr Guardian
I am returning after running amok on the streets and the Los Angeles party scene, Tarnished Coast. You’ll soon be seeing me quite a bit =]
- Sardonicus
ima comin back for more magerberhs
I think our 5-man made the DB Zerg so mad that we entered their breach that their Tower Lord chased us outside!!
I’M COMIN FER YA, MAGOOBS
I STILL GOT A WHOLE LOTTA DRILLIN TO DO
YOUR MYSTIC FORGE HAD A BROKEN HINGE
um idk if ur aware but we’re asleep
I WAS SCHEDULED EARLIER BY DENISE WHAT DO YOU MEAN
FOR SHAME YE GUARDIANS.
not one of you has mentioned WHY sword is so awesome: its range is 150. On the main attack (1 button). All other melee attacks in the game have 130 range (minus GS burst, which is also 150 – but is incomparable to a 150 range on your 1 button). If you stay tight on your target getting the kill becomes fairly easy. I also like sword quite a bit for WvW roaming, as Judge’s Intervention, Leap of Faith, and Flashing Blade cover 2400 range instantly. Great for getting people in combat as they panic to hit the nearest waypoint, and catching thieves and DD eles. Honestly, I prefer mace for generally everything, but when I want to be fast and deadly, I use sword.
I just took a look at your guys’ map and noticed FABL’s garri was your righteous color, Magerba. Good show, I’ll always love you guys even though you’ll probably tl;dr this
I’m just glad the idea of new maps is more prevalent. Playing since 3-day early start, just roaming the maps is such a ‘Ho-hum’ experience for me now, when before I would examine each and every inch to find that one op siege spot or hiding spot for an ambush. Well.. More than 9 months later, I’ve finally ran out of ways to in innovate, learn, and adapt.. I’ve learned all the spots, seen the tricks (and sigh as they lessen in number), etc etc, or at least I have become so bored that I don’t even care about finding new ones.. Giving an enemy Zerg our Grub Overlord aggro amidst a Bravost siege officially became “done” it’s 5th time for me..
Honestly, very early from launch I’ve been hoping for new maps.. At LEAST make all the borderlands different, and rotate which color they are each week. I’d love to see area-themed maps and imho the BLs are more Shiverpeaks-themed; I’d love to see an Ascalon-themed map, a Maguuma jungle-themed map, complete with Inquest-themed keeps.. There are quite a few more possibilities, and I’d imagine it’d be hard to screw up given gw2’s beautiful natural art style.
Tldr; help me ive been playing the same 2 maps for >9 months.
Most boring reset weekend ever, especially with FABL stuck in a black hole. I’ve gotta say though – I have not seen 1 standout player from Dragonbrand and it disappoints me – even Kaineng had their standout roam groups, 5-mans, and solos. Some guardian with Eternity or whatever came at me at Danelon and I wrecked her in about 15 seconds on my engi.. Then I promptly got ran over by a zerg lmao. Really all I’ve seen is zergzergzergalerg from DB – either they’re camping a tower or keep in a mini-zerg or running around in a big zerg. Trust me, I’m not a zerg-hater in the slightest. When the time comes for a big fight, there shoudl be big fights.. but in those off-hours it seems DB’d rather keep 1 scout to in a keep or tower to blow a whistle and get on a loudspeaker than send out some decent small groups. Congrats to DB, you’ve got an butt-ton of coverage- you can have T1 in the midst of Arrow Cart Wars 2 =D
I guess they’re too many for any singular person/group to stand out. Unlike FA, where Corps is a group of really good players who’ll give any pugs/militia a run for their money. Maybe they’re still new to the scene so we’ll probably see more of them. But I reckon this won’t happen until DB decreases in number (which probably won’t, which means they’ll be on their way to t1 soon).
What the? Corp is new? I remember dueling that guardian with the majestic beard back in Crystal Desert in EB JP – yes he was there in the TC-FA-CD matchup. That beard is way too recognizeable, lmao. We also try to field 5-mans as much as possible, we’ve got quite a few members fond of DAoC days and just want to roam, roam, roam.

Definitely, I have witnessed the standout FA players and guilds that i recognize on the field – you know who you are – and I’m sure quite a few FA recognize the [KH] tag as well. Forgive me if i’m wrong – was it DB that had the hyped “Charr Warband” that ran around in the early AM of PST? It may have been IoJ but i don’t remember that well. Also – I see large guild groups in both FA and TC always running amongst their own guildies, but don’t see too much of this at all – there are a few exceptions but these guilds field maybe 10-15 max at one point (with the exception of NNK, they are huge.. and also apparently like lowbie eles and arrow carts). DB seems to more or less just be a constant 24/7 pug militia that fields zergs pretty much constantly – something which neither FA or TC seem to be able to muster

A whole lot of hurt feelings in this thread.
Funny how fast it 180ed
Especially when the week is nowhere near over.
I predict a huge push by KN, TC/FA will both respectfully get 3rd place while KN takes 1st AND 2nd
There you have it folks
All in on Kaineng here as well
IOJ wasn’t destabilized by other servers, it was unstable for a LONG time. You could sit around in LA and listen to the chat every time new content came out. People consumed the new content, then disappeared, over and over. IOJ was a server of beta tester PVE players who love to race to finish content and then move on to the next thing.
It’s the opposite of WvW, and the IOJ WvW community dealt with this tension for months wanting more or less WvW and not so much PvE. It just so happened that FA was a WvW server. Everything made more sense the more we thought about FA, so many of us transferred. In general, the IOJ people who like competition moved to FA, the ones who wanted to win went to T1 and the ones who like to start from the bottom went to Kaineng. So, FA is now a server loosely united with people of like mind.
Crystal Desert dealt with the same thing. There was almost an anti-PvE attitude within the community as well, as WvW began to surge more and more. I’m glad that more and more servers are finally able to attain a good balance.
edit: The perceived influx of people aren’t transfers. They’re guildies and pugs rallied and yanked out of their dungeons and fractals runs to push in WvW. The CD guilds have not come here, nor have I heard of who is coming.

3) Crystal Desert, from what it seemed like to me, did well in Tier 3 versus Magerba and DB – I saw what DB was like in T3 and holy crap do their Oceanic/latenight crew go NUTS lol. Now with the current arrival of CD to Tier 4, WvW probably isn’t that exciting anymore – and probably hadn’t been for a while. Magerba had a fairly decent presence, as well as DB. But CD’s opponents had great North American presence, that of which CD did not. And arriving in T4 – for a community that never experienced a pause in action (Oceanic guilds of CD) – its probably quite dismal. And lets face it guys – paid transfers took its toll on all of us, not just a couple servers, making WvW unfun for quite a while. The tiers have finally begun to stabilize, and Crystal Desert still remains unbalanced regarding coverage, being the last transfer-affected community still clutching to the tiers.
This one paragraph is hilarious. You should pay a visit to T4 right now before you make generalizations about it.
Indeed, I don’t have a clue and I shouldn’t make generalizations about T4, or lower tiers – sometimes I wish I could transfer to one so I could run around as a 5-man not in constant fear of a zerg like I used to. But I’d be abandoning all my friends and kitten guildies, so I’m here for now.
Not sure how 3 words making an uneducated assumption can make an entire paragraph hilarious, but ok
To those criticizing the transfer of CD late-nighters, Oceanic, and SEA crew to TC – I’ve got a few things I’d like to point out.
1) Please ask AVTR about their zerg camping the North camp in TCBL if there’s many people on the map. We got rolled over trying to retake them with 5-mans probably on 4 separate ocassions. Btw, it was great to see AVTR come out, I hadn’t seen them for quite a while. I missed that confusion bomb guys – we learned our lesson once in Hills and learned to combat it, but when you don’t see that tag and are unaware, its already too late! =D
2) Being former CD, KH maintains a relationship with the guilds that once resided there (RISE of Kaineng, LW of Blackgate, EDMW of Jade Quarry, etc.) The implosion of CD was a mere victim of the announcement of paid transfers – we all had to make a decision facing the first exodus of Isle of Janthir (who maintained green for almost 2 weeks when they came to Tier 3), paid transfers, and the subsequent exodus of the remaining Isle of Janthir guilds to Fort Aspenwood. With IoJ abandoned, DB and FA were our opponents and CD was under pressure. We end up in last place week 1. Week 2 – week of the last day to transfer before paids, we ended up rallying as a server and coming back to Green. That week we made a decision to come to Tarnished Coast after being invited by PiNK 3 times and having many conversations with them – Tarnished Coast impressed the hell out of us by the quality of its players and amazing community, so coming to TC after being in Crystal Desert since the beginning – (After being at T2 near launch, dropping to T4 after mass transfers to SoS, rallying, and getting a server full of transfers) – TC was the obvious choice for us.
We pressured other Crystal Desert guilds to come with us, as they would make up the lack of hardcore WvW players on Tarnished Coast. It was pretty obvious, and Tarnished Coast were indeed another victim of the paid transfers, being bombarded by the now-massive Sanctum of Rall army. We came to a Red server after being Green, and on reset we ended up being Blue. Seriously, it was such a mind-kittycat – for the first time in 6 months I ran into an opposite-colored gate kitten But yeah, facing the SoR zerg was brutal, but we knew the tiers would eventually balance out – we didn’t want to go to one of the servers that were getting lots of transfers, or go to an already-populated one, we wanted to experience the similar fights that we knew and loved. As a guild, experiencing and enjoying the smaller-scale fights has always been our favorite thing to do, and we thankfully still experience that in the current lineup of T2 – until somebody sends their whole zerg at us =D – and none of that we’d argue to change, its a game, we’re here to have fun and not deny absolutely anyone in-game their fun.
4) Tarnished Coast got 2 transfer guilds. CYN and KH. Thats it. We’re all North American time, which kind of didn’t make too much of a difference for Tarnished Coast, as our population is low late-night. Those of us that do play late-night are a tight-knit group, mainly consisting of insomniacs, suspected junkies, and the few Oceanics and SEA players we manage to have. We all communicate and whenever a keep or important tower is under attack we get together and clutch siege, fending off the hordes. Offense is not quite an option, and we sit and turtle. With CD transfers we would finally have an oceanic presence and be a contender at night. Yes, we ARE weak late-night. Please refer to point 1. The dedicated Oceanic CD WvW’ers deserve to have an enjoyable WvW experience, and Tarnished Coast is the right choice for them. Hey, War Machine might finally get to fight a guild based in Tarnished Coast rather than tear down our gates all night!
So pretty much tl;dr version: Kaineng hang in there, FA take a valium and put down your pitchforks, Tier 2 is ok with TC Oceanic transfers; Gl hf all!
Arenanet intentionally designed the classes so that none of them can really be “team healers” in the conventional sense of the word. Guardians can be ridiculously good self-healers and one of the better group healers, though. I run a “support guardian” in WvW — staff and scepter/shield with full Cleric’s gear and a consecration build. My damage output is fairly useless but I get some decent group heals plus other nice group buffs (AE might, AE protection, that sort of thing). I do feel I make a pretty good difference in group fights.
So you can’t be a “healer”, but if you want to be “support with some healing”, Guardian is one of the best choices.
Should switch Scepter for Mace. Better healing and support with it (Block, extra heals on combo chain and on SoF, protection if the block doesn’t trigger)
Mace, mace, mace. That parry on the 3rd skill will save your butt many times. I absolutely hate scepter and will never evar use one other than vs. Lupicus, that tree boss from TA, or lvl 224 Fractals
Edit: I forgot to add Captain Ashym from the Searing Fractal when he busts out the fiery greatsword
I found that finding the right balance of stats on my Guardian is really the best way to go.
I’ll use 2.7-2.8k attack, 3.2k armor w/GS – 3.43k armor with shield 24%-30% crit chance, 9k-1.1k healing power. Many people overlook the honor trait. Yes it has altruistic healing, which is an extremely powerful survival tool. But focusing on healing is a complete waste of that 30% crit dmg. when I want to lay down a spike I’ll hit “Save Yourselves” and have a nearly 50% crit chance, doing a fair amount of damage. With the trait Empowering Might you can actually lay down a fairly nasty spike. I tried out a couple Fractals rings – Cavalier – and wow those crit numbers XD. Sure, my healing power gives me less survivability, but it is still completely manageable.
Also, Protection is extremely vital to the survivability of a guardian. I try to keep it pretty much constantly up, either via hammer symbols or shouts. Longer and bigger symbols helps quite a bit. Try rocking Signet of Judgment (therefore gaining -43% dmg), whip out your shield and you’ll be a beastmode tank.
Sorry they removed Gears from WvW, BT =[
Better luck next time in Bay =]
KH I would expect to troll poorly and chest thump. Player skills were on par with trolling.
Edit to add – thanks for the score/map updates both of you.
Trolling? I’m sincerely expressing my remorse, that is all.. I’m scratching my head as to where exactly all the staff eles attuned to air and hammer and/or mace warriors went then ..??
Regardless of the past, I’m not even chest thumping. I’ve been the victim of quite a few FA guilds XD. It was fun reading the FA/Mag troll/flame wars, I’ve gotta add my little jibs to the side. I’ve gotta say that fighting FA in general has been awesome, This matchup has finally balanced out Tier 2 and made WvW fun once again, for me at least. ggs and hope to see you guys out there =]

Had a blast at the Bay in BGBL tonight, 5 of our guys ninja’d a fully upgraded Bay, and we held it for a little while with the group of 15 or so we had with us. We gave a warm welcome to MERC at the northwest camp (bet you weren’t expecting that, huh guys?) We eventually got overwhelmed by you guys, as our Superior Treb was only able to take out 3 of Blackgate’s siege attempts. Good fights, and good luck, Blackgate, you have a kitten strong arrangement of guilds on your server, you guys deserve to be in T1.
Crystal Desert loves Maguuma too, we miss you guys.
And holy crap I love this post. I really hope you guys get more people and rank up, we had a blast fighting you guys. Hopefully we’ll get more transfers to Sea of Sorrows as well
(edited by sardonic wrath.5690)
logged on to see FA at +85
we must’ve botched something really bad for this to happen o.O
Yep, we just all got sick and tired of our Borderlands getting double teamed.
Crystal Desert has no keeps/garrison at the moment in their own borderland…
WHERE DAT ZERG AT? lol
Out enjoying our 18% node bonus =]
Have fun PvD’ing our keeps, we left safety scissors in there so you guys don’t cut yourselves
Not a boring weekend at all. I wish that Dreaming Bay’s outside walls were still open (and CD still owned it =[ ) so we could have more epic fights.. I’m sure we picked up plenty of loot from eachother, haha. gg to absolutely everyone, you’re a blast to engage in the field, Maguuma.
Commanders Sardonicus and Zivilia sure love to spawn kill poor EBers while Maguuma retakes everything. Gotta love noob commanders.
lawl, keep up the troll attempts.
see you at the Maguuma BL waypoint I and others have fought so hard to keep since last night.
gg, Maguuma, it was fun destroying your zergs all day. Face it. when you meet us head-on with even numbers out in the field – no siege – you get stomped. I was the Charr guardian leading charges. you know quite well who I am if you were in Mag BL most of the day. And lol @ the fact nobody was smart enough to try and backdoor us at Greenbriar. . maybe saw a group of 5 there, gg to that Norn guardian that took me down in front over there.
Oh, and response to the “zerg with golems to take a tower picture.” I was the one that called for golems. You ninja’d Shad Hills as we were taking Dreadfall Bay. Unfortunately for you, that was our guild’s keep, and it was met with a swift and brutal response due to our organization. But I’ve got to commend the stealth tactics guys, you’re smart, knowing you can never beat us in an evenly matched fight. gg Maguuma.
This goes out to all the CDers reading this thread – we won’t be taken seriously until we cut out the fair-weather mentality. The ratio of people in PVE to WvW I’ve seen has been pretty dismal, and its frustrating seeing my fellow guildies reclaim a tower in our own Borderlands and subsequently getting overrun just trying to hold the kitten thing after setting up a coordinated effort.
Another point I’ve come to make is that the late-night/Oceanic/whatever you want to call what goes on in the AM hours is pretty nonexistent. The last matchup we were losing like this, we had a fully upgraded keep (db) at 1am with 10 of us KH’ers on. (yes, that’s a namedrop, GO SQUIDS) – but that amount of siege and upgrades still can’t deal with a 30+ zerg against 10 of us, and it fell. And yes, our calls for help were blasted across map/team chat.
I don’t want to seem like I’m officially making this call – but our server really, really needs more dedicated WvWer’s on at nighttime. Seeing everything look okay before going to sleep, then waking up to see everything lit a different color than our own is really getting old. And to my CD brethren – please WvW more. Yes, even when we’re losing. Thanks.
