My biggest fear is that there will be no profession changes at all in this patch.

Spam eviscerate or save it?

I think the purpose of eviscerate is to be an ideal opportunistic strike as you described. In other words, I don’t spam it either – and only use it if i need to ‘leap’ a short distance to my target or to finish off an opponent with a surprise burst of damage.

Ultimately I have found the auto attack damage to equal the burst damage of eviscerate in the same amount of time.

Enough of Orr Grinding

Disney didn’t build finite roads and transit systems in their parks until they were able to fully observe and study how people were moving through them. The same practice is at work here – and a fundamental aspect of how good software is designed.

Things may seem shoddy and half-implemented now because they are. Because that’s the nature of deadlines in software development. The grand design is currently amorphous and has yet to fully reveal itself.

That said, I have confidence that ANET will eventually release alternative 80+ zones like Orr. But they’d have to be careful to not completely make Orr obsolete. In other words, there would have to be a reason to do one 80+ zone over the others (and vice versa.)

TLDR — ANET knows it must observe user-behavior before committing to new features.

Exploits and Glitching

Players are blatantly taking advantage of pathing and AI glitches in order to completely trivialize dungeon content — which, to some players (myself included) completely ruins the experience.

It’s totally out of hand.

It’s a a reasonable assumption that skipping encounters, res-rushing, and exploiting the terrain is not how ANET wanted players to experience their content. In other words, the current user-experience is probably not what ANET intended.

Hopefully they can (and will) rectify this.

So sick of hearing "For Great Justice!"

I realize, of all things, this is probably a silly thing to complain about.
But I am really sick of hearing the words “For Great Justice” every ~20 seconds.

Anyone else feel the same way?

Pin Down change - Gap Closers

in Warrior

Banner #4 is a pretty good gap closer that is independent of any weapon.
You just need to be holding a banner when entering a fight, which I usually am in WvW because of the run buff (banner #3).

Longbow #5 is great for immobilizing people so your team-mates can kill them but it’s not too useful outside of keep fights unless you trait 10 into “Tactics” for the the extra range. But I think that’s the way Anet wants it.

Silentnight, I think the problem with your proposed change is that even if you could pull an enemy to you, they would still just “dodge” themselves away unless there was an immobilize effect as well, which make it too imbalanced WvW. And all of the squishy classes (e.g. theif, engineer, mesmer, elementalist) that you’d want to kill have great escape utility on account of their low health pool.

How Do I PvP as a Warrior?

We can (and will) argue forever about which professions suck and which profession’s are overpowered. Every profession has bugs and broken (and/or poorly thought out) skills.

But at the end of the day, the ONLY 2 things that matter is gear and the player behind the keyboard. And warriors are probably the most reliant on good gear to be competitive, and consequently benefit the most from better gear.

Warriors have sub-par escapes, CC, and condition removal because we have an insane health pool with potentially crazy passive health regen that offsets bleeding, burning, and aoe damage.

Choose your fights – and think with your brain, not your greatsword.

Dual Axe Build

in Warrior

“Whirling Axe” is definitely a very fun skill, but ultimately the axe auto-attack does more damage. However I find it’s good for building up adrenaline very fast.

In my humble opinion…

The mace is a good offhand compliment for the Axe.

Having the on-demand interrupt from Mace 5 is invaluable in both PvE and PvP. You also get 2 vulnerabilities (axe2 and mace4) which will give significant benefit to the damage of the axe “burst” attack.

With 2 vulnerability attacks, and the trait that adds vulnerability on crit (in “Arms”, I think) and the axe’s fast attack speed, enemies will constantly be ~15% vulnerability. And because the axe burst is the biggest single target burst (melee) damage attack, it benefits more from that vulnerability than other bursts.

In PVE, I usually pair the axe/mace combo with a hammer. You build up adrenaline fast with axe, and the hammer burst’s is better in certain situations (e.g. hordes of trash mobs). So if i am fighting more than 3 enemies, I typically switch to hammer when my adrenaline is full and use the hammer burst instead. Also the Hammer burst will usually do as much damage instantly as whirling axe does over time.

toughness or heal for banner regen build?

in Warrior

In my opinion, for a “Balanced” tank — you can trait 20 to “defense” with 30 in “tactics” and get enough HP, and base toughness / healing that you could probably wear full berserker’s gear and still be very durable.

Regarding damage…

If I were to go that route, I would use a hammer for damage since you can trait “Merciless Hammer” in defense which grants a 25% damage bonus against disabled enemies. In this context, disabled means any movement impairing effect (which are pretty abundant) so typically you’d have a passive 25% damage bonus with hammer.

Unfortunately I find hammer to be kind of boring in solo PVE, but very fun in WvWvW — especially when used with the “Stomp” physical utility – since you can shut down entire group of people for ~5 seconds and knock people off of cliffs / keeps.

Very entertaining video — was that “Immediate Music” ?

Also can you please share your build? I wanted to use hammer as my main weapon on my warrior, but I am struggling with the perfect build.

Greatsword Wars 2?

What exactly makes the greatsword mobile? If i think of mobile, i think of the sword.

Mobile Strikes is what makes it so mobile, both movement attacks break CC.

When i think of mobile, i think of skills like leap on sword every 8 seconds, and the ability to attack and freely move at the same time.

Put an axe in your main hand and you do the most potential damage possible while freely moving around the area. A greatsword needs 100blades to do the most potential damage since it’s auto attack is as slow as a mace’s. But GS nails you to the ground, I can’t call that mobile.

Every weapon has it’s ups and downs, and obviously they are all either situational or specific to the role you want to play. I won’t say that greatsword’s damage isn’t great, but the axe is pretty much on par with the damage. So why people say that greatsword is by far the best is quite silly in my book.

100b isn’t the only weapon skill a greatsword warrior has.

There are 3 other skills that greatsword provides which:
1. Effectively get you to your target (at greater than 450 range)
2. Evade damage by means of rapid displacement

I would classify those as mobile attacks.

That is 2 more “mobile” attacks than any other weapon combination.

If anything, sword might be among the least mobile weapons because it’s “burst” attack requires you and your opponent to stand in place for a period of time that is longer than 100b.

Sure — sword’s savage leap is a good mobile attack, but its only one skill that does the same thing as whirlwind and rush.

I don’t have alot of WvW/PvP experience on my warrior since I am in the process of leveling him so I am hardly an authority.

However, at least at level 60 and with respect to PVE, the versatility offered by greatsword outweighs the other weapons. The mobility provides defense, there’s a ranged attack, there’s a high (if not the highest) damage attack, and a long range “Charge” attack.

I found dual axes to be the most damaging, but I keep missing the mobility and end up going back to the greatsword as my primary weapon.

I tried Hammer, and while the damage and utility is GREAT if specced defensively, it’s an incredibly boring weapon on account of the slow speed. I wish it had a leap or a charge, but I can see how that might imbalance things.

I keep “trying” other weapon sets to keep this class interesting, but I keep going back to the GS simply because it’s more efficient at killing and offers the best mobility of any other weapon.

Of course my opinion may change once I start taking WvW a little more seriously. 100b does not seem like a viable PvP skill on account of the time it takes to complete. However in my limited WvW experiences, I find that even though it’s easy to avoid a lot of people simply don’t move out of range and it nets some satisfying kills.

Vitality useless for Warriors?

in Warrior

It is not a completely useless stat; as such, you wouldn’t want to abandon it.
First points in vitality are the ones that give you most benefit. Raising your health by 1 thousand when you have 10 is a 10% increase, while raising your health by 1 thousand while you have 20 is just 5%.

Wait — do all stats have diminishing returns like this?
