You guys are complaining about nerfs when they are buffing stuff as well. .

the main problem is that they are buffing what’s already facerolling (heavy and medium armor classes), and nerfing what is in dire need of a massive boost (light armor classes).
Of course I am talking about world pvp, pve is so easy any class can be successful: I can foresee armies of thieves and warriors in WvWvW collecting free badges from other classes….

Elementalist damage way too low?

Grevender.9235

Yeah, but since this thread was just about DMG, I wanted to show the video

that’s a common misunderstanding. High damage that can be outputted only in certain well-defined scenarios, only with a team carrying you, only if this only if that while other classes can do the same if not better on constant basis and without requiring babysitters is not object to discussion (even I posted many times here nice numbers but just for sharing purposes). Somewhere I should still have the pic of my 260k firegrab against the Ice Elemental in fractals (me full buffed by party, food ecc, and it fully debuffed), but it’s really useless when I am perfectly aware that mu firegrab hits for 2.388 HP on constant basis against an average warrior (IF I manage to land it, that is…).
Basically, the discussion is toward ordinary tasks, rather than extremely rare exceptions.

I would like to see depth in the stories that unfold through each “chapter”. Don’t be scared to make us choose the wrong path, for example. Late realizing that we are not the good guys might be far more interesting. Crazy villains can be fun from time to time, but the best ones are for sure those who care for their goals, for their teammates and underlings, that have some kind of ethic and logical reasons to do what they do.

So why is it that Norns get snow leopard form with a ridiculous 1600 range dash, coupled with a 5 second stealth (on 10s cooldown)?

Our guilds experience of GW2 so far.

one can agree or disagree with op, but he certainly raises some points. GW2 needs to give valid reasons to players to gather under the same flag: unfortunately, being able to join multiple guilds is completely killing the meaning of being in a guild, because ultimately if you are part of everything, you are part of nothing.
Guilds lack individuality, joining one is the same as joining any other: this is bad, totally bad.
Each Guild should be unique for its own reasons, there are plenty of ways to do this… I hope someday a bunch will be implemented

Good categories. I agree influence is not a good system and we should think about how we would change how you obtain upgrades once we have talked through the specifics of what kind of upgrades a new system has and how it incorporates the existing upgrades.

Apologies for picking up the discussion late.

The system influence/merits system is by no mean perfect however I do not think a massive revamp is necessary (like supression of glory in spvp).

The massive flaw of the merits is that they are earned only through PvE guild mission and this excludes WvW and sPvP centered guilds. Introducing new ways to earn merits in the two modes is a good start.

As far as I understand, influence is a “measure” of the activity of the members of the guilds and merits reward your achievments done collectively as a guild.

Also, as others suggested earlier, we’ll need new guild challenges and event that need to be done as a guild.

the true problem imho is that “influence” serves a purpose that is normally fulfilled by “money”; therefore “influence” should be recalibrated to be proportional and reflect the amount of efforts invested in a certain area of the game.
I really think we have way too many currencies…

When did d/d become so popular?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Grevender.9235

Grevender.9235

it become popular once some very good player started p0wn1ng with a class that was thought weak: everynab came to the conclusion “hey, must be d/d…”.
No one thought about the “good player” part, thus leading to embarassing amounts of poorly played d/d elementalists.
Btw, after the recent hate from devs for my beloved D/D, I switched to staff and am very satisfied (it’s way easier to collect badges this way).
Hipster…? maybe.

If D/D Ele is OP, tweak how many boons can be stacked how quickly.

nope, cause Ele’s boons stacking directly depends on how well the player knows his class and is able to perform quickly the combos required to get those results.
Give to all other classes similar COMPLEX mechanics to counter it, and I am all up for it.

Is AoE actually a problem? - Discussion Thread

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Grevender.9235

Grevender.9235

Why should a skill do 5 times the damage to up to 5 targets then a single target skill.

did you even wonder why a bomb makes more damage than a gun shot? because drumrolls …. it’s a bomb! ( = meant to deal massive AoE damage).
So, just for basic logic, AoE are truly meant to be devastating; anything less than that, and we have a faulty mechanic.

So, diamond skin.

Collaborative Development: World Population

in CDI

all the ideas that would allow to move from “victory in numbers” mentality are good and would probably turn
WvW into the ultimate end game content for everyone.
I will take this opportunity to quote an idea I already posted in a thread featuring Devon Carver (the original post is available here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/Anet-doesn-t-care-about-WvW-edit-pg3-INFO/2604078 )

and was this:
“many PvE folks don’t WvW, many WvW folks don’t PvE. The two tribes, instead of feeling part of the same game, look down at each other.
I suppose you agree with me that this is wrong, and a different approach should be encouraged.
Well, then why don’t you guys help us? make PvE have effects in WvW, and make WvW have effects on PvE.
Example: PvE folks win Temple of Grenth? cool, a Pact legendary champion shows up in the Mists to help WvW folks do something.
WvW folks cap towers/keeps/Stonemist? a powerful buff will prevent the guys at Grenth to be thrown in the air/a small army of Veteran Mist Warriors will show up to help/a Legendary Mist Warrior\Beast will help overthrowing the Temple.
People cap Melandru? higher regen/hp/condition resistence for WvW
People cap Lyssa? Random Boon for all the WvW every 30 secs
I could continue for days, but I suppose you already got the picture.”

such game mechanic may give a chance to balance those matchups in which servers apparently have similar average
population, when in reality only one or two make use in WvW of that population, the rest is in PvE.
So, giving importance to PvE massive events in WvW would accomplish many goals:

- more people would be attracted by such events, because they would “feel important” and understand that
they are actually contributing to the server in an understandable and widely acknowledged way.
- give a chance of balance
- add a very unpredictable factor which may lead to exciting results

the most critical factor for obtaining balance, is giving players instruments to self-counter zergs.
’Tho instead of using a “punitive policy” against zergs, try to encourage smart small scale playing:

- implement powerups (quad damage, invulnerability, gate shatter, hyperspeed, fly, mega-jump, wall crusher, map-teleport, remote vision, invisibility ecc)
- have them last 60 seconds, and make them unique (as in "only one will spawn in each map, and won’t spawn again until someone find it and use it).
- make sure them are scattered around the map, randomly appearing and disappearing in zones in which the game detects that there are less players. (I’m sure this can be done: for example, each player can have a 120 radius area that defines his presence in game. Therefore, many of those circles very close may define a zerg, creating a bigger circle with a specific center, which can also be followed while moving and thus allowing to predict with fair chances where to have Power Ups spawning).
- Obviously, even if a zerg spots a Power Up, it disappears as soon as it is approached. Let’s say, the powerup can be picked up only if there are no more than ten players (5 friendly and 5 foes in total) in a trebuchet range radius.
- give players rewards for making good use of territory (this will require to modify the morphology of the terrain, rocks, trees ecc): setting up an ambush to a large force from a small party.
- land mines (they won’t trigger for a small amount of players passing by though)
