If I could change L.A., I would:

  • Remove direct loot rewards when a new rescue tier is reached
  • Create 5 tiers of rescue bags
    • The tier of bag dropped by enemies is tied to the current rescue count tier
  • Introduce a buff, (“Lion’s Hope”), scaling with the rescue count tier
    • Increases revive speed
    • Grants karma when reviving an ally or NPC
    • Grants karma when encouraging an NPC
    • Grants a random boon when an NPC you rescued makes it to safety

Here’s your checksheet to know if your standstill behavior is a problem:

  • Are you receiving rewards without actively contributing?
  • Are you dying to mobs and letting players waste their time reviving you?
  • Is your presence up-scaling events that you aren’t participating in?

If you answered no to all three, you’re fine. A single yes, and you need to consider relocating.

Or you could let players use all he tools and decide for themselves what degree of clipping is tolerable or avoid it entirely by their choices.

A player’s experience of how attractive the game is isn’t based solely on their own character. Many people would not bother with or even know about the ways to fix their clipping, with the result being that every time you run into other players, you are assaulted with bad armor pairings that make the whole game look glitchy and poorly designed.

By taking it into their own hands and exercising control to remove bad combinations, the devs are maintaining the asthetic integrity of their product.

If you’d rather be playing WoW, go ahead and play WoW. Enjoy all the mounts your trinity-loving hearts can ride into your epic huge raids. The rest of us will still be here, enjoying GW2 for what it is.

That being said:

  • Post-Zhaitan Personal Story
  • More weapons for each profession
  • Earnable BL Keys instead of Aetherkey/Tricolor/&c.

They’ve said for a long time that gear stats won’t go higher than ascended. The only reason ascended was even released after launch was just because it wasn’t ready, anyway – if I remember correctly, they always planned on having it in there.

When the PS was refactored, all the rewards in the existing chapters were changed, nearly always into something a little more powerful but with a generic skin. Will Chapter 7 rewards be revamped the same way?

Definitely hoping this was looked at. I am so tired of leveling up a character and getting a dozen sets of ugly clogs

The clock ability very well might be the chronomancer’s version of illusions. The knockdown at the end is possibly a shatter effect. I think we’re looking at a crowd-control spec, which is absolutely perfect to contrast with the base dueling spec we’ve had for almost three years.

Fourm changes. Good, bad?

If forums are changing then it’d be nice to have a PvE section. It fills odd to have PvP, WvW but no PvE which is just mixed in general GW2 and not completely covered : no fractal and no open world sections…

This is a big issue, and I would love to see it discussed more. We all prefer to post things in their related areas, but several of those areas don’t exist. Not everything belongs in General.

I’m starting to think the forums could use their own CDI.

Expansions: General story and lore ideas

What would you have named those sectors? We (mostly) went with cardinal directions to help players orient themselves.

Good question. First, I’d think about how often players actually need to reference area names when navigating, and under what circumstances. On this map, players mostly reference the four forts when navigating on the fly. It’s easier for people to navigate by landmarks than cardinal directions. The sector names are used more by NPC’s and achievement guides.

Secondly, consider whether ending each sector name with “Silverwastes” is beneficial. If you want to keep the directions for the sake of teaching players the map, you can change the second word instead and keep or modify the first.

The areas containing the forts could be named to keep the color coding, even if it’s done subtly. Alternately, they could take after the legendary bosses beneath them. This will help players remember where they are. Also, don’t forget to hint at some sort of lore and maybe a lost purpose for the site.

Central Silverwastes, for example, could become “Indika’s Gilded Heart.” This hints at the Indigo Cave, the boss Gold beneath it, and its central location. Plus, it makes you wonder how it got the name, and creates a storytelling naming pattern that can be used across the map. Players are already curious about the local lore of who built these structures and why – give them something to nibble on.

What would we like the summaries to look like?

Readers need to be able to digest all the key information from three pages of posts, in the space of one single post. Crediting and links are of less use in getting up to speed on the discussion, (if they wanted this much info, they would just read the three pages), but can be helpful when trying to get more detail or reply to what was brought up.

I recommend a bullet list of talking points independent of their source posts and posters. Sub-bullets can be used to list subtopics and counter-arguments as needed.

Links to individual posts can be fused into the text. You can link to as many posts as you have words to make into links. With direct access to the posts themselves, we don’t need poster names present in the summary at all; they serve little purpose here other than in cultivating bias.

Anything that detracts from the discussion points themselves should be hidden or removed, so that people trying to get up to speed are willing to actually use the summaries to do so.

My bf just pointed out that there could be more than 4 legends available – slottable sort of like ranger pets. That would be a cool way to include a lot of legends. They could be categorized for functionality, just with different aesthetics and on-activation abilities.

The current cadence is great. Any player can wrap up the meta achievement in a few hours. The complaints people have about LS development relate to decisions made, not time spent. The illusion that they represent everyone, and the idea that things they don’t personally like are inherently bad, are things that I’m glad the devs are smart enough to see past.

That said, onward! My favorite LW release was Bazaar of the Four Winds—for reasons others have stated—but I know this isn’t a part of the LS arc. I disagree with erasing the Cliffs from the map just because the Sanctum itself has moved on.

Clockwork Chaos introduced some of the most promising permanent content, but Scarlet makes me cringe.

I passed on Last Stand at Southsun. It had such a small scope to its content, the release felt pointless. Don’t get me started on the annoyances of Dragon Bash.

CDI- Guilds- Guild Halls

Why not use gathered materials (wood/metal/leather/cloth) as components in guild hall construction?

Ooh, this has me imagining: What if we actually built the guild hall ourselves?

Guild leaders can “commission” units of the construction from an architecture interface. Then everyone can use their normal crafting professions to make all the beams, walls, doors, rugs, chandeliers, training dummies, etc., that are needed for construction.

When guildies have provided all the materials needed for major constructions, you can have a “barn-raising” style event where everyone shows up to the build site and whacks at it with a hammer for a couple minutes until everything poofs into place.

Always-Visible Thread Status

Regarding forum tech, would it be possible to have something like a collapsible red-bar block of status text always visible at the top or side of the thread?

If such a message were made visible regardless of where a user is in the thread, it can be updated regularly by the CDI’s managing dev to keep us up to date on any combination of info:

  • Summary (maybe via a link)
  • Current sub-topic, question, and/or goal
  • Desired post format

It could be minimized at most times, expanding when clicked or updated.

To me, this seems much more reliable than simply hoping everybody happens to have read the dev’s most recent guidepost.

Of course, people are still free to post what they want, but this would drastically improve visibility and tangibility of the dev’s guiding hand. It would also eliminate the need for Chris to constantly bump his own posts, creating a neat and permanent place for these things, and freeing up his actual forum posts for genuine discussion.

This has been bugging me since the game was released. Plant harvesting has the most limited use of all three gathering types. Would it hurt so bad to throw in some cotton and other plants for us to harvest? It’s okay for plants to serve more crafts than cook.
