Emotes

I want voice emotes.

Not only would they be easy to implement, as they’d require no model editing for additional animations, but there are already voice lines in game, just almost never utilized.

See this older thread on emotes for some of my own suggestions, and a link to a some rarely heard voice lines.

[Suggestion] Account bound items UI

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Erik.4032

Erik.4032

Idea
I would like to suggest a new tab under Hero/Equipment (or Bank), that would list all the account bound items acquired on all characters, whether in individual inventory or equipped. Allowing players to easily move items; say ascended gear, from character to character, without having to relog. This could also include consumables.

Personal comment
I realise that this is a somewhat small improvement to quality of life, and might prove more difficult to implement in terms of programming, nevertheless, I think it would be an overall improvement.

I apologize if this suggestion have been raised in a previous post, though to my efforts, it would not seem so.

Have a nice day, if you will.

No More 'Communicating With You'

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: eyestrain.3056

eyestrain.3056

The Communicating With You thread has been closed, and though I understand as it was a mess, it was also the only thread with regular responses from any member of anet staff. I know people jumped into the thread because we all feel like we’re just talking into space with no response. In that thread we were able to have a conversation, rather than just flinging our thoughts at the wall, and an outpouring of gratitude and relief followed.

In that thread it was suggested there should be a role on the anet team for someone to just interact with players on the forums and I hope that isn’t forgotten. There are so many issues right now with the game (be they bugs or intentional features), and so much unrest among dedicated and long time players that I would hate to see all of Chris’ efforts to reach out to us rendered pointless from a relapse into dev silence. I and others felt hope for being heard- but it could easily be false and wasted hope.

It’s probably too much for one person, and definitely too much for someone who already has a lot on their plate. But right now I don’t think i’m the only one who feels we lack a bridge between anet and players and it is causing continuous tension.

[Proposal] Reorganizing the achievement panel

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tilion.4062

Tilion.4062

Hello there,

The 9/9 patch aimed, among other things, to restructure the achievement panel so that the various categories are better presented. Without knowing if the post-patch structure was in purpose, having future content releases in mind, I’d like to take a moment to propose an easier to be perceived model. Feel free to discuss below or give any ideas on how we could achieve some clarity in the achievement panel. Please, keep it civilized and constructive.

Let’s start with the Story Journal category. Taking in mind the certain future expansion of this category due to its nature I’d say that we definitely are in need of some sub-categories here.

  • Story Journal
    • Season 1
    • Season 2
      • Gates of Maguuma
      • Entanglement
      • The Dragon’s Reach, Part 1
      • The Dragon’s Reach, Part 2
    • Season 3

The General category is basically a dump at the moment. Things definitely need to be cleared out here. Basically it includes Dungeon stuff, Explorer stuff, Bosses and some other more generic achievements. My proposal is to split this into the 4 aforementioned categories. While we are at it, “Fashion” achievements should now be part of a collection so that this bug can also be fixed at the same time, as well as the achievements for minis. Mini collections should showcase which minis are part of each set and collections in general should provide you with a right click to “Buy on the TP” option for those items that are available through the TP.

  • General
    • Hero
    • Tradesman
    • Slayer
    • Weapon Master
    • Community
    • Hall of Monuments
  • Explorer
    • General (The previous “Explorer” category is now a sub-category and needs a more generic name)
    • Dry Top
    • Jumping Puzzles
  • Bosses
    • General (The previous “Bosses” category is now a sub-category and needs a more generic name)
    • Triple Trouble
    • Tequatl

The Dungeon category really needs a way to let new players know which paths they’ve already completed on their account. I had proposed a system a couple of months ago that would take this burden away from the achievement panel and intergrate it on the map. In any other case an achievement panel implementation would come in handy.

  • Dungeons
    • General (The previous “Tyria” category is now a sub-category. I don’t like the current name as it gives false hopes that one day we’ll see Cantha in game)
    • Fractals of the Mists
    • Twilight Arbor Aetherpath
  • Collections
    • Basic Collections
    • Rare Collections
      • Fashion
      • Miniatures
    • Black Lion Collections

The Competitive category consists of achievements related to the activities, some that are related to sPvP and those that tie to WvW. We need 3 sub-categories here and while we are at it a fix for those Spring WvW Tournament achievements that show multiple times in the WvW achievement category.

  • Competitive
    • Activities
      • Keg Brawl
      • Sanctum Sprint
      • Southsun Survival
      • Crab Toss
      • Belcher’s Bluff
    • World vs World
      • General (The previous “World vs World” category is now a sub-category and needs a more generic name)
      • Edge of the Mists
      • WvW Fall Tournament 2014 (Or any other currently ongoing Tourmament)
    • Structured PvP
      • PvP Conqueror

The Historical category remains as it is. It’s purpose is clear and inevitable

  • Historical

So, what do you guys think?

Put festive tokens into wallet

Hi Anet. I hope you’re reading this. I have like 2 stacks left of festive tokens in my bank. I destroyed a stack before since I didn’t know there were still npc’s that accepted them after the events. I’m keeping what I have left in hopes that the events wherein I can accumulate some return again so that I may get some of the other stuff I missed out on.

I don’t mind waiting for a year or so again until the events reset, maybe. But It’d be nice if you could help us free up some space and include items like these tokens into the wallet.

Death/Downed Camera...

LEAVE MY CAMERA SETTINGS ALONE! Would anyone else play an FPS if your camera kept switching between first and third person view? would you play a racing game where the camera was rotating around your car the whole race? NO, leave the camera alone! It is infinitely annoying when you set it and then it zooms for you or the zoom level keeps changing in the same fight (Claw…).

It’s bad enough that the camera is affected by terrain, adding the ‘death camera’ view is stupid – I KNOW I’M DEAD… You don’t have to emphasize it for me.
We complained until you fixed it in gw1, you brought it to gw2 for some stupid reason – copy & paste most likely. GET RID OF IT. If you don’t want people ‘cheating’ in wvw or pvp, open up the kitten map so they can waypoint when they die, but stop punishing people by messing with their client settings.

When she was a baby, The Girl With No Name was found by her adoptive parents near Wizard’s Fief in Kessex Hills. Growing up among nobles in Divinity’s Reach, it became clear at a young age this was no ordinary girl. She had an obsession for the magical and wonderful things. Soon her parents found out their precious daughter had a destiny nobody could have ever foreseen. Becoming a Mesmer.

And what are mesmers without a complete inventory filled only with fashion? Nothing.

From left to right:

Traveler’s Trappings.
This outfit is by far the most comfortable one of all the lady’s clothing combinations. It is to be worn on journeys to preferable sunny, southern regions.

Orrian’s Ornaments.
This set is inspired by the long faded majesty of the kingdom of Orr. It will guide you through mazes of long forgotten cities and ruined landscapes without even having to use your eyes.

Ascendant’s Attire.
The ‘I mean business’ armor. To be worn in Fractals and most other dungeons, but also formal affairs and official guild gatherings. My mesmer’s personal favorite.

Demon’s Disguise.
By far the most casual one of the bunch, this outfit is mostly worn in a comfortable setting. Will remind the wearer of her youth and is a perfect gateway to creating a lighthearted atmosphere. Trolling included.

Empress’s Ensemble.
Making a statement of true royalty, this outfit will make sure to remind you and everyone near you of your nobility. To be worn in situations where there will be little to no fighting, and appearance is what matters most.

Which one do you like most? ^.^

Mail Limitations

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kitsumeo.8754

Kitsumeo.8754

Hello,

I want to make a suggestion to improve the mailing system.
Currently (the past 2 years) the limit have always been 2 mails which after 2 mails you get supressed.
As a Veteran player and a Guild Leader I get very frustrated by the limitation from time to time. Today I encountered the limitation again and here I am making a forum post

Doing a giveaway or handing out prizes for guild events is a pain in the *.
Also when removing guild members we like to send them a mail to give them a reason why they have been removed/replaced. if you have to remove 30 members it takes about 1-2 hours to send all the mails if lucky.

Here is my suggestion:
Either put a mail limitation on character levels.

  • Level 1 – 30 = 2 mails max (against any spammers)
  • Level 30 – 60= 5 mails max
  • Level 60 – 80 = unlimited

Or just make the limitation account bound

  • New accounts up to 1-2 months have a limit of 2 mails
  • Every account that is older has no limitation.

I really hope this will be considered in the next major feature pack.

Kind Regards,
Kitsumeo

And whyyyyyy? hands to the sky

I rolled a new character to experience the levelling changes, an asura.
Who makes these decisions? So far I’ve done 3 hearts, am on fourth (the oozes one), and I have a few questions:
- Why would you dumb down the content of the race that’s smart by lore?
- Why did you turn off the golem chess?
- Why is the heart to fill containers with electricity so annoying now? I much preferred the mechanic of the mobs dropping the orb, which then I could use to fill the tank or to knock down foes (in the latter case feeling incredibly smart for finding such a use for the item). Now I get the annoying lightning on my person and have to run top speed to find a container to get rid of it before it drives me insane.
- You moved the progeny heart – that was exciting. That shows me you can change heart contents. So that’s a good thing, kinda.
- But why did you empty the little lake? I suppose this is because it’d be too overwhelming for new players to do under water combat? You kidding? GW2 is THE ONLY game with a GOOD under water content that I’ve seen and I love it. A new player would be nicely impressed I’d think if they went underwater and saw things to do in there? No? Now it’s a sad sad sad empty lake.
- The heart where you turned into a golem is completely kittened now. There’s no other word for it. It pops this stupid message all the time how your companion is happy, and is equivalent to pressing one button repeatedly (even monkeys don’t do that).
- Why is every merchant in the 1-5 lvl zone now selling colored bags? The battle arena merchants in particular. It was exciting to look at different badges from respective labs once they won the battle, and I expected it to be a collection, and it’s bags (which should be a collection too :P)

I didn’t understand before why the community was so offended at Anet and was asking if Anet thought them kittens. I kind of see it now.

I really don’t know who these changes are targeted at, I really don’t know who makes these decisions, and this makes me sad. I don’t really care much, I realize only a few people like me come to this early content to see if they can find smarter ways to do these hearts etc. But really why even waste your time doing these things?! I dread to go and see what changes were done to other zones (I hope not too many)

Again it probably doesn’t matter. It is assumed players only do these zones once and don’t care about them. Well why then remove things? Yes some of these hearts were confusing, especially to people trying to rush through them, but they gave the zone flavor. The right flavor.

Trouble is, many of us existing players actually like complexity. That’s what keeps us making alts, keeps us trying new builds…

The NPE works directly against this. The trait change works directly against this.

There’s a fundamental mismatch here, and I’d love to hear ArenaNet talk about it. Or even acknowledge it…

And yes, you do see some forum members making the same points again and again. That truly is not helpful to the review and discussion, in that the devs would prefer a focused, clear, concise statement rather than realizing “Wait, it’s that same person, saying the same thing for the 19th time.”

And I would love to know when the folks at ANet will be done with these changes.
That way when I list out my points I won’t be caught in any “still pending” traps.

"Leveling as a Reward" Experience Crippling!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tigirius.9014

tigirius.9014

What I don’t understand and I think this is part of the frustration with this patch is there are sooooooo many other more important areas they could be fixing in the game that are well documented that people have asked for changes in for years that we’ve been told would be fixed, but this was the choice of the thing that was priority 1. So I can understand especially when it comes to the lack of rewards from normal gameplay kills, why this is viewed as the last problem we should be looking at. Because even tho there are some good rewards periodically during the leveling process and from personal story, there are essentially no rewards from the rest of the world of consequence until you get to Dry Top for many a player due to drop percentages, DR, what items players carry with them and their quality, etc, and I think people are going to continue to complain until those things are addressed, not because every game has their whiners in the forums but because it’s a real problem and has been since just after launch when they nerfed alot of what we were able to get as drops to sell for gold in the open world.

I think since there are clearly objectives people especially new players would like to achieve without buying gold like buying certain sigils/runes, and the feature from the previous feature patch that requires gold + skill points for traits that they need to look at that as well during the process of rolling back the NPE. Don’t we have Karma for progression for a reason? Shouldn’t players be spending Karma + skill points for traits instead of gold?

New Player Experience has driven my away

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Perkinz.5362

Perkinz.5362

Hello, I would like to share my story with you all—I feel it is quite important to share this, as it very closely relates to the current and future state of the game.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

I joined this game just over a month ago. I greatly enjoyed my time with the game, found the world charming, the quests refreshing, and the various classes interesting… but as of last week, this is no longer true.

Congratulations, Arena Net. Your “New Player Experience” has done, for me, the exact thing it meant to prevent—It has driven me away, when it was intended to help keep me playing.

While I had already felt restricted by receiving traits a fair bit too late for my preference, It wasn’t too big of a deal—-By itself. There was a wide enough variety of skills to experiment with in various combinations that it was able to keep me tied over until I could further specialize my character as I desired.

However, with the “New Player Experience” that was apparently designed to help retain new players, I have found all fun drained from the leveling experience—-Which, thanks to my status as an extreme altoholic, would have lasted until I had one of each character at 80 before I would focus on things like PvP, WvW, and collections.

My only character at cap is my Elementalist, whom I had rushed to 80 from 46 in Edge of the Mists over the course of two days after the original announcement in order to have at least my foot in the door and had experienced the prior system in it’s entirety—Sadly, I have yet to finish even my Elementalist’s personal story, as I wanted to get to 80 before the patch, yet after the patch, I decided to hold off yet again as I heard stories of broken or missing stories and major inconsistencies.

I went in with an open mind, led to believe it was an enhancement of the prior system, adding to the amazing groundwork already laid… Sadly, it turned out to be a deconstruction of the system which ended up making it feel more like games I had once played, loved, and eventually quit thanks to their sterility and expedited leveling processes. Over the course of a single patch, charming places like Queensdale became the prettied up younger sibling of old, worn out places like Elwynn Forest of Azeroth and Freemarch of Telara.

Good job, good job. I was having so much fun, too, looking forward to quite a long stay within Tyria.

I urge you to reconsider this situation. I really do want to continue playing and continue enjoying my time playing, but as of right now, this is just plain… disappointing. That’s all it is.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
Employees of Arena Net, if you read this, know that I did truly enjoy this game and I truly do want to enjoy it further… But as it stands, with the current systems in place… I just can’t. No matter how much I want to, I’m not having fun anymore so I’m forced to draw the line.
——————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Whether it was your own decision or, like some people seem to think, NCsoft pressuring you into making these changes… I hope this serves to help you understand the situation as a whole, and I hope that understanding helps you make decisions toward a better future for this game and it’s community.

In summary, these are my reasons:
-Early levels are incredibly dull. Early hearts/quests are too simplistic and bland.

-Traits take far too long to open up—By the time I get access to my first choice of a trait, half the leveling experience has gone by, with character development only truly opening up with access to Master traits at 60.

-Utility slots take far too long to unlock.

-“Tutorial” process lasts as long as the entirety of Final Fantasy 7. Most games do just fine explaining their systems with a few tool tips during the first half hour—-Having to go through this monstrously bloated tutorial—-Which can last between 40~60 hours of gameplay—-for every single character I make is tiring, insulting, and disheartening.

The current system in it’s current state has truly and entirely ruined it for me… I would not have put in over two hundred hours at the end of my summer before I return to college in just the three weeks leading up to the patch had I not enjoyed it. Yet, such is how it goes.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Attached are the results of my “short” stay, just in case you are curious as to what I’ve accomplished, and just how much I enjoyed this game.

Everybody that hates the NPE is going to take over the discussion after all the fixes have been released I believe. You’re going to see multiple posts by the same people that hate it, and it’s going to seem like a lot more people dislike the new changes, when in reality, it’s just those same people that really want to make their point across. And not that there is anything wrong with posting more than once, it is a discussion after all, but you get my point.

I mean you can see the evidence of it now, with people complaining in one thread over the subject, and then having some of those same people from that thread start up new threads on pretty much the same topic.

I do agree that some minor changes need to happen, but hopefully Anet doesn’t give in to the pressure and make a complete 180 to the NPE, because I believe some of these changes are good for the game.

So I can’t wait to chime in when all the fixes are done. Should be interesting.

I agree with you about this. I think it’s premature to gauge how NPE will play at the current time, because we do know changes are coming.

And yes, you do see some forum members making the same points again and again. That truly is not helpful to the review and discussion, in that the devs would prefer a focused, clear, concise statement rather than realizing “Wait, it’s that same person, saying the same thing for the 19th time.”

I don’t want to rain on your parade, but usually, it’s not the same person saying the same thing for the 19th time. There are MULTIPLE people saying “rollback the PS.” You have to learn to listen to important feedback that’s being said by multiple players.

Yes, most of them don’t say it in the nicest way possible, but when there are those who do, and many of them, then you realize you have a problem on your hands.

Gaile, Chris,

Please allow us to continue with the personal story if we chose to instead of level locking it.

I play the game with friends, and the personal story, to put it bluntly, is what keeps us occupied. When we’re a lower level than is recommended, it simply becomes a fun challenge, and we like that! To force us to be a specific level, while I can see the point of for cohesion, ruins the do what you want feel of the game, and also turns it into a grind for us, as the personal story is what we play the game for!

Thanks for the time.

Repost from the “Communicating with you” thread:

What I don’t like about the NPE:

Personal Story
One thing I always hated about the Living Story was that it feels like timewarping every two weeks. The Personal Story on the other hand was able to win me over because I could decide when I want to drive my story forward. Now that is gone, now the story comes streamlined and packaged in small bits every time I level 10 levels.
The biggest gripe I have with the new system was that the old system was almost perfectly fine and could’ve been made perfect with just small changes. There is no need to “protect” the player from the story.
And if the rumors are correct, then they’ve cutted out part of the story and rearanged other parts, so they don’t even make sense anymore…

Weapon skills
Same as the Personal Story, I think that the old system was perfectly fine. You unlocked the skills by using the weapon, not by leveling your character.
The old system made more sense, was intuitive and gave us the possibility to use more skills quicker.

Level-up bounty
I really dislike the way they are going with this. They’re locking things we had previously to give them us back later as “reward”. They cut the maps in order to do so and the loot they give for leveling up gives the player a false pretence of how the game is meant to be played. They think that the game centers around getting your character as fast as possible to level 80, when in fact the game should encourage you to explore. Again the old system did this just fine.

Simplified maps
Some key parts about every map gets locked away until you reach a certain level. Skill point challenges, vistas, gathering nodes and goods the heart vendors have to offer.
This again gives the player a false pretence about how the game is meant to be played.

Learning curve
All this changes where introduced to flatten out the learning curve. Someone obviously thinks that a new player is most likely overwhelmed by the game if he first starts. There would be a sight better way to introduce new players to the game:
Tooltips. Lots of them. As example, the downstate shouldn’t be locked until level 5 but should be explained before the player can be downed the first time. There should be a tooltip what the downstate is and what the 4 skills do. The evade mechanic should be explained with tooltips, the map completion should be explained with tooltips, the gathering should be explained with tooltips, everything should be explained with tooltips. And the best part about tooltips: They would be optional.

The reason for all these changes?
In my opinion, ANet aims for getting this game eC or E rated to attract new players.
This would also explain why new Sylvari aren’t naked anymore when they leave the Dream. Young children could obviously get the wrong message…

From my experience playing a new character:

1. Unlocking skills all at once per weapon was more confusing for me, and more boring. Previously fights didnt feel like grind because I was unlocking skills along the way, and I had more time with one skill to feel what it did. Now I get a bunch at once and am slowed down by having to read every tool tip over and over and I don’t remember what each skill does as well.

2. Not gaining skill points each level… even with the big message saying i’m being rewarded and that i’ve “unlocked” things (many things arent locked to begin with) I dont feel each level is giving me progress toward new abilities.

3. The level up menu gives vague, incomplete information and if I want it off the screen quickly there’s no way for me to figure out later what it was telling me. It takes up the whole screen so if you impulse click on it in combat there’s no time to hover your mouse or click the things it wants you to. In my opinion a true tutorial in controlled instances would be better than these obtrusive, only half-informative, and easily missed pop ups.

4. Some world-building dialogue/heart quest options have been removed (the inquest no longer try to recruit you, no golem chess, you can’t feed bear cubs or play as a sylvan hound). What drew me to gw2 was its world, characters, visuals. These charming details help it stand out from the “kill 45 crawfish to proceed” competitors. Their absence is missed.

5. I am seriously not looking forward to buying/unlocking all of my traits.

I don’t know if you’ve had a chance to check out this thread. I know it’s gotten buried by the myriad of posts (mostly about the same thing) but this might help you guys get more of a feel as to how we feel.

Thanks!
