The WvW "community"

in WvW

Posted by: goldenwing.8473

goldenwing.8473

And there are also posters on the forum, from all different servers, including “enemy” servers, who can and have posted in mature, sportsmanslike manner.

Those are the conversations worth reading on the forums.. an exchange of ideas, and real discussion.

As I’ve said before, part of what I enjoy about WvW is:

The joy of knowing, win or lose, the WvW community as a whole has the love of this style of play in common. And that without each other, especially “enemies”, we would have no enjoyment at all. It’s the foundation for a common ground of mutual respect.

The player base will always be a mixed bag of those with an experienced perspective, those passionately vocal about their loyalties, those that push the limits of extreme competition, and those that get swept up in the game, lose sight of the fact that a fellow player/human being is sitting on the other side of the computer screen.

Happens all to often in real life as well, as history and current news continually proves.

Unpleasant. Cringe-worthy sometimes. Part and parcel of life.

People defending beliefs and values with strong emotions and determination.

It’s a sign they care, no matter how (poorly/vehemently/excitedly/pick an adjective) expressed.

The developers should be aware of this. After all, they care passionately about their game as well, according to their statements.

The community versus developer communication is another topic that’s been addressed on another thread. My response is here:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Our-Community-1/page/2#post3935041

As far as other players and communication. If you have a balanced perception of the game and adhere to the value of respect / sportsmanship for fellow players, then continue to set an example and continue to post that way.

As for me, I will continue to be authentic and post with my server community in my sig, because that is where I play and that helps inform my perspective of the game. It does not totally define my perspective nor does it totally define me. I hope I am mature enough to objectively post with the understanding that all players out here have the love of WvW playstyle in common, and without each other, enemies et al, we would have no game to enjoy.

@OP: actually what you describe in the second paradigm is exactly what devs planned to happen (as it is the only way to “balance” an otherwise clearly unbalanced war).
Unfortunately, exactly in the same way that would apply to “real life”, the two minor forces are unable to understand the very simple concept of “united in victory” and instead battle each other giving even more advantage to the already superior third opponent.

Never seen so much whines before one particular server get into bad position.
Maybe they think they’re destined to win and other result is not permitable?

It’s more like this scenario:
A 12 year old spoiled brat is punching and kicking a bunch of 5-year-old freely and without any sense of guilt. He also punches TWO older kids who’re 8 years old.
The TWO 8-year-old decide to work together and finally defeat the 12-year-old brat and kick him to the ground. Then the 12-year-old start crying and tell the teacher (Anet) that the TWO 8-year-old kids are bullying him, and want the teacher to do something about it.

Pro tip, learn to dodge so you can stay out of the path of a hammer train.

hm you have access to infinite dodges then? 1-2 of em is np, but 4-5+ is and no dimishing returns on cc is something this game could use so people can spam their cc mindlessly whenever they want, but able to penalize themself as they see skill going on cooldown, but no or less effect.

Use superior sigil of stamina and you will basically have infinite endurance during a zerg fight.

Lol, Stellioz and Omen gaming are in no way a PUG group, They are a great guild and have my vote any day of the week. Silly rabbit Tricks are for Kids!

jojojoon is being sarcastic. Every post in this thread by him is poking fun at the BG koolaid drinkers who have this genuine thought that that they are indeed outnumbered in every time zone and they only win due to sheer will and amazing play.

How dare you say that!!! I take offense to that!!! When we, the BG community, say we are outnumbered across all timezones, it has to be true. Stays may lie but BG never lies. Just check MOS if you don’t believe us.

http://mos.millenium.org/servers/view/33/

Note: Sigh.. I think the owner of the MOS website is on vacation or something. We still can’t get in contact with him yet to fix the website.

Funny, MOS shows that BG dominates during NA.

Get a clue and stop trying so hard.

That’s why we are trying to get the website fixed. Remember, we are outnumbered across ALL TIMEZONES!!!!

Played a lot of PvP games. It’s easy in those games to get frustrated with the overall skill of the servers population. That’s not the case in the time I’ve spent on SoR, the people here are very coordinated on the whole. The overall strategy of the servers leadership, i.e. commanders, is to get everyone on the same page working towards the same goal, and some how, in an MMO of all places, it seems to work. It seems to work great as a matter of fact.

Had the privilege of playing a few different time zones this weekend. I have got to say our fairly well outnumbered EU and OCX crews are like little Pitbulls, these guys just don’t stop. And for as cruel as they are to the enemy, they are more than polite to those running on their team. A real pleasure guys, many thanks.

Hi all

I’ve played OCX/SEA.

All 3 servers bring the 40-60 mans at those times.

All 3 have 10-20 mans guild untagged.

All have great 5-10mans.

And sometimes each group type meets the wrong group.

It’s a part of T1 wvw meta. Nothing we say or do will change it.

Lol asking commanders to join your server? not only a commander, but a community leader who is in the process of rebuilding the server. I didn’t think you could stoop any lower after going into recruitment threads and trolling. Fannwong, don’t even bother replying next time to the obvious troll.

How can I show casuals the importance of TS?

in WvW

Posted by: Boonprot.6274

Boonprot.6274

Here’s a question for you BoonProt. When I played GW1’s PvP seriously I could see a big and immediate difference between having TS and not. There is no substitute; everyone has to be on TS. In fact not only do people have to be on TS, they need to have microphones and be willing to use their voices. In WvW however I’ve both played with TS and played without it. I can see almost no difference. I still do the things I do and I could’ve done it just as well without TS (in zergs, anyway). Why?

Read a post I made later.

Probably because you actually aren’t as aware about what’s happening as you think you are? Either that or most of your experience is from within queue-sized blobs or Tier 4 and lower. Heck, even T3 has some truly awful pub trains and guild raids on their servers. T1 pubs are probably the most organized and disciplined, but you’re more likely to run into 3-4 guilds smooshed into a voltron blob than a true pub train. Anyways, that’s getting a bit off topic so I digress.

My guild runs with 15-25 players a night, mostly in the 15-20 players range. We typically have no issues wiping zergs double our size unless it’s a few select guilds. Even then, we can typically mow through quite a few of them before we get overrun. I promise you that we couldn’t accomplish this without VOIP. Why? You miss every single bit of micro that the driver/rest of the zerg is trying to coordinate. Book rotations, banner rotations, water/chill/regroup rotations. Line placement, static placement, hammer stuns, immob bombs, etc. It’s impossible for all of this information to be relayed via chat in a timely enough manner so it can be taken advantage of. This is why VOIP is so important.

Don’t confuse tottering around in a T8 queue blob with actual, coordinated, competitive WvW content. They’re not the same in the slightest.

Hey! My spirit isn’t broken! Well, maybe it did a little yesterday when I sieged up NW tower in our BL, and everyone but two of my fellow guildies thought a camp on the other side of the map was more important. Yes, we died in that tower.

I will still come out every night, and fight like I always do, win or lose, I don’t care.

What score system post-league ?

Woo hoo we get to go back to complaining about RNG again!

Burning questions for NA post league:

What is the state of SoR?

Will there be significant amounts of people transfering?

Has TC weakened enough to make it a good match with the next lower 5 servers?

How strong is HoD?

Is the gap between Rank 9 and below really as big as it seems?

Stay tuned as the post league world reveals itself.

How do you explain the WvW reward?

in WvW

Posted by: Chuck Zitto.2367

Chuck Zitto.2367

I expected this. They announced better rewards for winning server. So everybody transferred to stacked servers to win. The league was a total failure. Terrible rewards were given cus some servers got to stacked and now need to transfer back to lower servers and pay more gems to get around the queues. Win win for anet.

SBI is doing fine indeed. We have a week of hard fights ahead of us, fights with little pressure and competent and motivated foes. The WvW casuals are less present – several WvW new leaders have stepped up – i have someone I trust following in every BL.

We might win or lose to FA – matters less since ranks are set. It will be a fight for glory and fun on all sides.

It’s WvW paradise right now in our matchup.

WvW pop and points from a different angle

in WvW

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

Xenesis.6389

Well we all know of the biggest problem with wvw these days is population and coverage, and the season highlighted it much more than ever. If you have greater coverage in a match you most likely will win, and win by the time the weekend is over.

We have all looked for solutions on how to balance populations, like offering transfers to lower server reduced cost or for free, that may work to some degree if players are willing to move down to get away from the queue of the stacked servers.
May even try to reduce capacity in the maps, which again will force players in those queued maps to spread out especially the guilds, and may even work on reducing the zerg ball, but I love those big open field fights, as long as it’s near equal numbers, plus we don’t need maps to feel empty.
Limiting points gain in none primetime/overnight but that restricts other players during their normal playtimes, the game runs 24/7 and it’s not fair to limit those players who are not in your primetime zone their right to play.

Either way I don’t think population problems will ever go away and I think we need to look at wvw competitive balance in a different angle.

The current game.
Team A, usually has the best coverage, gains the bloodlust buff more often than not, gains the bonus points for stomps which helps sway the match more into their favor, usually accumulates enough points by monday to run away with the match.
Team B and C, anywhere from close to equal cover to don’t even belong in that tier, Team C is usually getting double teamed for their bases because they are an easy target, when really Team B and C should be beating on A.

Arenanet introduced a very interesting mechanic in earning score points from stomping people while under bloodlust, so why don’t we expand on that.

Example Proposal.
Team A earns 1x points from bloodlust as normal, they would earn no bonus points from outmanned buff.
Team B earns 2x points from bloodlust buff, they would earn 2x bonus on structures and also earn score points from siege kills while under outmanned buff.
Team C earns 3x points from bloodlust buff, they would earn 3x bonus on structures and also earn score points from siege kills while under outmanned buff.

The bonus amount will need to be tweaked obviously, and teams will have their bonus points gain change according to their current rank in the matchup. If teams are within 10k points of each other then the bonuses should be turned off. If Team A is 5k ahead of Team B and Team C is 15k behind Team B, then only Team C is earning the bonus. The two conditions are random enough that the two lower teams will not completely keep up with the top team.

The conditions should be helping the lower teams rather than only buffing up the top team. The top team should be rewarded as Arenanet explained in their reasoning for the bloodlust buff back when it was the orbs, but their coverage is already the reward for them which allows them to win matches easier, as well as in this scenario of points collecting they have the ability to deny/limit their enemies access to the bloodlust buff much more than the other two teams.

So what’s the point of keeping teams so close in points you may ask, might as well not have a points score. Well the reverse is also true since the start, what’s the point of scoring when the top coverage team is always running away with matchups. The point is to keep the matchup close enough so that all sides continue to compete through the week, but you still have to work at keep it close. Many times a server will just give up on bothering about ppt when they know who’s going to win the matchup from the moment the match starts.

END: The short story – 2nd 3rd place earn more points while under bloodlust and outmanned to help stay competitive. Instead of just outright rewarding the bonus to the top team, use the buffs to help the lower teams, the top team still gets rewarded with coverage and the option to deny their foes points.

WvW will never be comparable to sports competitions because of population imbalances, so change the points system not the population.

Another derailing post. ^^

Having a blast this week against Mag and TC who are now showing up and fighting us as we don’t massively outnumber them anymore. The PPT from Sunday on has been back and forth, it’s great.

This ^^. I really only care about the battles during NA since that is when I play. The past couple of nights, all 3 servers have been ticking in the 200s at time. That leads to good fights.

Only a very few people really care about the overall scoreboard. What matters is whether it is fun for them when they play.

I hate bringing this up… coverage is a part of the game and it is NOT going anywhere, but there are times where it hits BG and SoR hard… No matter how hard we push on any map, im sure this goes for BG too – we lose something elsewhere, and we cannot do a thing about it…

Sure, set up 10 AC’s and have 10 ppl park there, What is stopping the other team from Golem rushing with ~5 golems? We can’t even SPARE 10 ppl late at night, we have to consolidate. It is tough, it really is. That is when you remember that this is a game and you play it for fun. But no one has fun when what they feel is ‘hard work’ gets overdone when you start losing numbers, start getting sleepy, have to go to work – you name it. No server makes it above t2 with JUST coverage. If you say its just coverage, pass what you’re smoking over here please.

In my own honest opinion, even if BG and SoR were to actually HELP eachother during our offpeak and JQ prime, I do not think we have it in us to compete. In order to survive in T1 we have to fight eachother for points, we HAVE to get any easy point. But this is what is making us BOTH lose to JQ by such a large margin. Right now, I would say BG and SoR do not have it in them to win in T1, We don’t have the will or resilience where it matters. After finding out theres nothing you can do to keep up, it becomes less about playing for points – it is about killing your opponent wherever you can. I cannot stress enough, on how much our Oceanic and SEA forces try on SoR and im 100% positive it is the same on BG. I know that MERC was like that, pushing for that win on SoS, heck… just look at Jedahs post history, I have no doubt at all that MERC pulled overtime to give SoS the lead in t1, and they deserved it.

We all suffer from coverage pain, both BG and SoR have to persevere and play like we are both number 2. We’ve proved we can beat eachother. We’ve proved we are proud servers. I know it feels like no matter which borderland you are in, you will see a minimum of ~30 JQ running around, and thats not adding the amount of awesome ppl they have capping camps(17 camps for a point tick WTF) We have to push through this, and we have to recover.

We play this game for fun. So let us continue in having fun. Screw coverage. Screw the scoreboard. Screw those wall of red names. One wipe means nothing, Two wipes means nothing, Repairs mean nothing, you push, until you cap that kitten keep. And you push past it and cap the next. Go SoR. Go BG. We all have it in us to win, We all have it in us to succeed
