About a month or so ago I queued 8 hrs both on Saturday & Sunday, so 16 hrs+ total trying to get into EB. Neither day did I manage to get in…

I am on Seafarer’s Rest (EU), apparently some ‘clever’ folks had organised a GvG there for the weekend…some of the regular WvW players were fuming because they were not defending anything so we lost our T3 keep and all our T3 towers. Which if at least a few of the regular WvW players had been able to get in would not have happened…

As bad and poorly thought out as the requirements for the new Teq fight are, Sparkfly is still just another pve zone, not a map built for a team vs team (vs team) game type. If Sparkfly is full, you’ll get put into an overflow, where the same events will happen. Events will scale to accommodate the number of players (Teq does need some work on this, though), your opponents in wvw do not.

This thread should be closed. Wrong forums. This is WvW forums, not GvG. Maybe you could try it in sPvP forums – I know they want people to duel at Custom Arenas(so they can make money selling them). Might be also a solution for some nice 10 vs. 10 GvG to go there.

WvW really is not the place to do GvG. It’s meant for servers to fight each other. Of course you still can try GvG – nobody can stop you. But then you can’t complain about others interferring.

Where did he yell? The silly little “you violate my game mode” part? Cause that’s the only thing he said that can be taken as offensive to anyone. Outside of that he was far more respectful than the players, who btw broke the TOS with some of those replies and they didn’t get banned for that.

26 pages and we have seen the response and apology from ANET in regards to this incident. When are we going to see a similar response from those people involved for their language and treatment of the ANET person? Apologies should go both ways in this case but I have yet to see the opposing side man up and do so. All I see is “he kittened up and should be lynched, tarred and feathered and run out of town”. Since such language is against the TOS should those involved be punished accordingly which would constitute a ban? Fair is fair! Both sides were wrong.

Yep. According to people like Riondron or Sir Arthur.8905, you should be banned from every regular activity taking place in WvW apart from siegeing and defending castles. Even open-field battles are frowned upon by the new generation of WvW purists, because they at best have the same effect points wise as a GvG. Going by this new doctrine you are to avoid any fights (or like mentioned any other activities) that don’t take place in the context of capturing an objective.

I would agree that wvw isn’t really the right place to go if you’re only looking to gather. That can be done on any pve map, without occupying a slot in a competitive game mode. The idea behind the nodes being in wvw is to give wvw’ers the chance to get crafting materials within their preferred game mode.

Open field fights are just something that will happen “naturally” in a gametype like wvw. It doesn’t matter if you stop an enemy force at the gate of your keep or in the open between the keep and a supply camp. You’ve halted their progress, likely scattered them a bit, and stopped or delayed their attempt to take your keep. Maybe they’ll give up, or maybe they’ll regroup and come back. Either way, you’ll hold that keep for a bit longer and get more points from it.

I try to leave the gvg crowd be, but honestly many come off as elitist. Secondly, tonight there was a huge gvg event in tc bl, where we were fighting to save our keep. We could not get help in the bl, and when we asked for help to save our keep we were told to leave the bl. This is way too early in the match to be throwing the match.

No it isn’t, ur matched to BG and SoR. The match was thrown when it was made, don’t lie to yourself. Your highest tick not including the first couple hours was what? a 240?

We usually refer to keeps by their common name. Hills, Bay and Garri(son). Camps are normally compass direction.

And “our” keeps are the ones on our home BL. “Their” keeps are the ones on enemy BLs, even if we happen to be holding one of them.

If you want to go play GW1 GvG go ahead. but do not come here and tell us GW2 players this is not “real” GvG.

if you want to go 8v8 there is sPvP for that.

This is not. It’s two mini zergs clashing into eachother. There is 0 strategy or offering split squads or anything of the like. No strategy involved. Don’t get me wrong, I get it. It’s the only avenue guilds have at the moment.

But if you think 15v15 or 20v20 in an area the size of a tennis court involves any strategy (not skill, strategy) then your mistaken. You may as well host GvG’s in Hill’s Lord’s rooms, at least spectators could sit and watch from above like a real gladiator arena. Or that Bloodlust node. It’s the same style of ‘smashing into eachother’ … or ‘dropping the bomb’ … joke.

Hopefully Anet will eventually get to adding something where it will require people to think, and move. Strike and Counter strike.

It’s still fun in it’s own way, but not nearly as enjoyable and very much reminds me of watching my 6 year old’s soccer team all chasing a ball.

Come on folks… I understand we the players like “GVG” and need it. But what we should do is put in requests to fix “Custom Arenas” to accomodate the matches how we like it. If one likes using PVE gears, then let’s put in requests and hope that someone in Anet will help. If we need 15v15 or 20v20, let’s ask for it. I don’t disagree with the developer if he indeed said “ruining his game mode” or “kill trading”. The game was made with the intentions of large scale battles between worlds. Zerging/blobbing is part of the intentions whether we like it or not. There are times which one might see that the game mode is ruined… i.e. during resets, long queues, close matches, etc. Everyone is entitled to play the game their way. It’s a fine line in between to see whether the way one plays, such as “GVG” is an exploitation of normal gameplay.

With all this drama it is fair to say that there is an urgent need for official GvG support. Because the permanent drama it causes on all levels is quickly becoming painful. That said, GvG sounds like a real opportunity for the game and I can see why people would enjoy such a game type. That said, WvW is NOT intended to be played that way and those GvG matches DO INTERFERE with it, it’s blatantly obvious.

P.S. : I haven’t even seen a single GvG match, I’m not interested in its current form at all. I also am not a dedicated WvW player, I’m just tired of this.

I’m disappointed to see how vicious some people are being.

For starters, having watched all of the video, I feel it’s clear that when he arrived, it could have looked like there was kill swapping going on. Even the people who were there have stated that at times it was very one sided fighting.

As an ArenaNet employee, it’s really his obligation to investigate this. Did he perhaps make the wrong assumption about what was happening? Maybe. But you know what, he’s human, just like the rest of us. And human beings make mistakes.

Many people have said that they think it’s impossible he didn’t know what people were doing there and so obviously came to troll them. This is a very self-centered point of view. Not everyone WvW’s on a regular basis. Even among those that do, not everyone uses the WvW maps to GvG. Regardless, even if that IS the area that GvG goes on at, if there is something going on there that breaks the TOS, then ANet will check it out.

The barrage of foulmouthed vitriol that got unleashed on him was undeserved no matter what someone does. What is wrong with people that they think it’s acceptable to talk to anyone that way? I’ve seen it time and time again in Queensdale when people who are farming champions absolutely lose their minds that someone has DARED to kill a champion when NOT on the train. Do they consider that not everyone wants to play that way? That some people enjoy a challenge, or even – and be sitting down for this one – might just be new to the game and are just doing events as they come across them? Sadly, all to often the answer is no. Because far too often, people never consider other points of view than their own.

The next assumption made by many is that he turned on his tag to show off or intimidate. He didn’t do this until people started swearing at him (an action completely against the TOS). Had anyone been getting that kind of verbal abuse, I would expect an ANet staffer in the area to step in to try to defuse the situation and calm things down. Something, I might add, that I have personally witnessed this ANet staffer do on multiple occasions. Even his comment about why he was there has been twisted to mean that he was implying ANet doesn’t support GvG. Yes, he referred to it as “my game”. That’s because like most of the ANet staff I know, he’s very committed to it and passionate about it. I work for an airline, and I talk about “my planes” all the time. It’s just a phrase. Unfortunately in this case, all of his actions were interpreted by a group that seems very hostile to ANet, and represented in the worst possible light in this thread.

The whole thing I think has been blown ridiculously out of proportion. It’s pretty obvious that the topic of GvGing on the WvW maps is a hot topic for many, with people passionate about the issue on both sides. It’s pretty clear to me that he became a target for a lot of people’s frustrations about the issue.

He made a mistake in thinking that what was happening was breaking the TOS. He used a phrase that people took wrong. And people assumed he used his tag to dominate them when he was just trying to stop people from being jerks.

I know he is upset about how people are interpreting his actions because they are SO WRONG about his motives. He loves the game. He loves WvW. He loves his home server. He hates to see it getting abused. He hates to see people’s fun being ruined by other people’s bad behaviour. But he is one of the most kind hearted, open minded individuals it has EVER been my privilege to get to know. So to have people see him in that light is, I’m sure, very upsetting to him. To have the situation become so negative would be equally very upsetting to him.

I would ask that everyone who knows him (and many of us on the server do and play regularly with him) to be just as vocal in your support of him as the people who seem to be screaming for his head are.

No one is perfect. He certainly doesn’t claim to be perfect. But he has worked very hard to make the game what it is today, and has always been a fantastic representative for ANet.

For those who have made judgements on his actions, please consider, even if for just a few moments, the different view point I have made above. And in the end, please remember that to err is human, and to forgive is divine.

(Edit – I want to make it clear, I’m not speaking FOR him. I have barely talked to him since this happened, and all my comments are based on my observations of him over the time I’ve known him.)

I see apologies from one side (Anet), I do not see any apologies of the other. Looking at the chat in the OP-picture those people should be ashamed to talk like this, and their guild leaders should apologize on their behalf.

It is very sad and tragic of how the Act of Sincere Remorseful Apology suddenly deserves the Death Penalty.

The Dev deserves punishment but those players need a ban imho. Such childish and toxic abuse shouldn’t be tolerated no matter the situation. And this thread needs to be locked…

I have to keep asking though. Why does this person losing their job make you (not you but people in the community) feel better about the situation? Does it really bring you satisfaction? Does it instill in you that it will never happen again?

It happened. It shouldn’t have happened. A blanket apology was forged. Not sure what else player are expecting out of this. It make me smile a little when I see someone respond with “I am uninstalling because of this, and I wasn’t even effected personally.”

The damage has been done. Not sure what else players expect at this point. It doesn’t make it ok.

It would be unprofessional and pretty distasteful if Anet did make an official statement about whatever reprimand this employee receives. Information like that is rarely made public, unless the person was in a high-profile position where their removal would be obvious.

I think the only additional response we might see would be some sort of anonymous apology from the employ in question. Letting the community know this person’s identity would likely lead to many more problems. It really doesn’t matter what Anet or this person says at this point, because the damage is done. Any attempts at an apology are most likely to be taken as forced and without meaning.

The best thing to do is let Anet handle this, and just move on.

There is no simple solution right now. It is not as simple as make an empty map and let them go at it. Anet has in that past and I am sure in the future put their own spin and polish on features.

They didn’t just want LFG, the wanted their LFG, They want their story, dungeons, raiding, etc etc.

They want to add GVG but it will have additional features, this takes time and resources. Resources they clearly don’t have right now. You want them just to release something, anything to do with GVG, this is not how they operate.

Their code can’t handle anything that would resemble current gvg format (15v15 or 20v20).
It was tested, it was denied on financial aspects (they don’t want to buy/host more servers). If they say it’s coming, yes, maybe some day, but they haven’t started developing it yet nor have they allocated ressources that go beyond brainstorming on a clean white sheet of paper.

Well that’s pretty silly because what ever you are down in people the other team is down too, I certainly dont have a slap-fight(so you put it) against my own guildies. And tbh many of times we have left a GvG to be continued because the map needs help.

It would be an balancing factor if wvw was 2-way fight, but there are 3 teams involved.

We inform anyone on map before we start that we are having a GvG at windmill if you see swords down there its us, and if things get too heavy for you give us a shout and we will come to try and help.

And we are contributing while doing it we are keeping an enemy guild occupied, we get points for stomps and if there is a queue on that current map we will normally make a decision with opposing guild to see if we can move maps. We are a close net community and help and keep in touch with any of the pug commanders and their movements across all maps. And are always at call if needed unless we are defending or taking something ourselves, in which case see what prioritizes.

I think this would be a lot less of an issue if there were more gvg guilds like yours. It sounds like you really handle it the best way possible. The way all of them should.

I’ve seen a gvg busted up because no one knew they were there. I was in the middle of the pack, and my initial reaction was preparing for an ambush. The enemy guild involved had clashed with us several times that day. What I saw looked like a stacked and buffing group getting ready to charge us.

The reaction from some friendlies observing from the far side (I didn’t even see them till after we engaged) was nothing but rage, and did not help to defuse the situation at all. Our presence on the map was clear, and they made no effort to inform us of theirs, even though we were at the southern supply camp.

Why do people like you tell us we shouldn’t do it? It has improved my play style a lot, and my guildies play style, so in which case it benefits the server. I have already stated that our server knows they can call on us if we are needed. We will opt in for a map with no queue over a map with a queue. Although points are of no preference to me personally (i play for the fun/fights), the points however are of importance of our community and we will certainly postpone a GvG if our community actually needs us to postpone it and push that bit harder for the points. Whilst I totally agree there is no official GvG in GW2, there is however open field battles (which is part of WvW) where guilds have decided to take a fun open field battle and make it a fair fight which has been dubbed GvG. Since it is the closest thing to it, and the WvW environment is well suited for this, and the Devs have stated themselves that it is a free-for-all-battle, don’t tell me how to play as i don’t tell you how to play.

Just to make it clear we will help out our community 1st and GvG 2nd so we do have our priorities in the right order, so for the hours we put in to WvW and contributing to our server, if we want to GvG then we will kittening GvG. If our server needs us to put GvG on hold for the time being to help them out then so be it. But we certainly shouldn’t be told we can’t do it.

its about about practicing against fair competition, working together as a team to take down an another team of similar equality and numbers. And most of all having fun with friends which is is why you play the game. So to have someone tell me I cant do that, and I don’t work hard for my sever is a complete insult.

I’m certainly not telling you how to play, but there are some gvg’ers that do need to change their attitudes and priorities. Everything I said is directed at that group. From what you said, it seems that your guild does the exact opposite of the problematic behavior I mentioned, so it doesn’t really apply to you.

I would like to see more gvg guilds that put the community and wvw ahead of their own wants, but there seem to be many that don’t. It’s this attitude that their contributions make it ok for them to completely disregard wvw and other players when it’s time for a gvg match. They are the problem.

This is quite a hostile match-up thread. I’m sorry ET and AR you guys drew the short straw this week, I understand that feeling.

If anyone wants to organize a GvG, or small team fights, or one on one duel, whisper me in game. We can set something up that’d be much more fair and fun for all of us.

Also for those of you who have not read the forums, Arena Net is changing the numbers of servers in the tournament from Two tournaments of 12 servers, to Three tournaments of 6 servers in gold leage, 9 in silver league, and 9 in bronze league.

I know many of you could probably care less, but I figured I would put that out there to my fellow WvW’ers.

I just wish all the loud whiny guys who claim that they will leave the game actually do. The community would be so much better without them. It’s like watching kindergarten… and just because a Dev. states that he doesn’t like how griefers are griefing a game mode people blow things WAY out of proportion and leave Anet no other choice then apologize. Honestly: Anet should back their devs up, griefing is NOT ok period.

GvG when the match is decided and “no one” is playing any more? Just no. This is just stupid. You don’t let half of your soccer team play basketball in the last 15 minutes when the match is decided. You simply wait till you get your basketball court and leave the soccer court to people who enjoy playing soccer.
