now let’s talk seriously.
If you make an Human male muscular. Look at his arms without the MEDIUM legendary armor.
Afterwards, make him wear the MEDIUM Legendary body piece and look at this arms

YOU WILL CRY…. i swear.
Cheap work.

here is a video about what i mean, with bright color it is even worser.
His arm become like silvary’s…..

https://youtu.be/v9Uyxxvulh8

this is really…. i don’t know maybe are my eyes broken. I have the feeling that the armor just replace the body. He doesn’t wear it. The body is replaced. Like copy and paste something.

Look at the shoulder of my character with and without armor…… are you serious……

To be worse based on Leakozaurus (guy who posted Ele and Guard skillbars) Holosmith isn’t even close to be completed. Previous itaration of Engineer’s elite spec was scrapped few weeks ago (doesn’t this sound like Scrapper, and his heat and fuel mechanics?). Holosmith is still owrk in progress.

Whatever the spec will be, I just hope that engi will finally get the mechanics that will change its playstyle. Although that talk about the original design being scrapped just now seems too similar to the previous situation that gave us Scrapper. This worries me.

Can we get a free holodancer with our holosmiths?

In my crazy mind, I want to believe that ultimate is a teleporter pad beaming your mates out. Then in addition to the expansion, Anet announces they will fix turrets by allowing you to erect a single sentry that you can upgrade with your wrench. To complete the meta, Anet bestows upon us a new “Yippee ki yaa he yay kyaaah kayo!” emote to complete the profession.

10/10, would buy the expansion twice.

So, as a charr ranger, I come up once again with the short stick.

There’s one word for legendary medium armor, and that is: lazy. (And a few other choice words). I usually don’t bother commenting on disappointing stuff, I understand problems of development and animation and necessary corners to be cut, and I know it’s tough, but come on. I admit the heavy and light have some nice racial adjustments, even though I’m personally not fan of the looks, that’s fine. The medium armor? That’s just kitten atrocious. Cuts of horns, cuts of manes, offers the most basic, totally unadjusted and obvious clipping. I’m used to running Soul of Koda, I’m used to overlook clipping, but this is supposed to be THE armor set of the game, the thing you work till you drop to show off, the biggest prestige items hyped up for over a year… and it’s flubbed this bad? YOU put the race in the game, YOU encourage people to play it, YOU should make sure to get it kitten right.

But considering it’s also over a year and the Astralaria effects are still unfixed, I’ll just… stop hoping.

I’d love to see Engineer’s reworked to not be so kitten reliant on Kits… It’s really bad design. Quite honestly I’d personally prefer to see kits given their own slot on [~], even if that does restrict us to only having one kit on our build… either that or add a utility skill to each kit that replaces it in our skill bar when equipped, it’s rather redundant to have weapon swap on [~] and on the key for our current active kit… not to mention very annoying when I go to use another skill and accidentally disable my current kit due to my fat fingers…

Anyways… from what I can see the following really needs to be done to fix engineer’s reliance on kits…

1) Swap Pistol skills 3 & 4…
as others have pointed out many times, the offhand pistol should be more utilitary with the 2 pistol CC effects on it, and the main hand should be all damage. Having the strongest pistol damage skill on 4 is rather absurd. Especially when you consider the simple fact that Pistol is our ONLY main hand weapon.

2) Buff or Redesign Shield…
As it stands, shield has some interesting but highly lackluster abilities on it… in 99% of content it’s just not worth using…

3) MASSIVELY BUFF Rifle…
Currently Rifle serves better as a set of utility skills for kit based builds than as an actual weapon… this isn’t just sad, it’s insulting… Rifle has some effective abilities, but as a whole it’s highly underwhelming and utterly outperformed by Pistols which are again outperformed by Kits… The only weapon we have that’s actually worse than Rifles is Shield… Granted that’s not saying much given how few weapons we actually have… but still

4) Give us Mace Main Hand (Base)
Yes, you read that right… give it to us as a new BASE mainhand… do not tie this to a second elite spec. We need a solid power mainhand weapon in our base core weapon kit.

5) Nerf Grenade Kit & Bomb Kit…
I know this would be a very unpopular change, but it’s a necessary evil in this case… Weapons need to be brought up in power to at least be on par with the weaker kits, while the stronger kits need to be reigned back in… Which means Grenades and Bombs need to be nerfed…

6) Gadgets need to be made useful…
with the exception of maybe 1 or 2 of them, gadgets are practically useless in every situation… why would I take a gadget skill to do something when I could take a kit that does the exact same thing plus 4 other things… and does it better too…

7) Unnerf Turrets
seriously, who thought nerfing turrets like that was a good idea?

8) Buff Elixirs…
For much the same reason that Gadgets need to be reworked… Elixirs need to be buffed. The benefits they provide for the most part are good, but they are just too weak to be of any real value.

Please stop assuming I’m a guy… I am female.

Any back stowed items (shields, backpacks) have a huge gap on Perfected Envoy Vestments.
I took 2 screens comparing Perfected Vestments and Refined Vestments for reference:

Yesss, pleeaase! I haven’t been paying to much attention to this thread. However, I bounced in to say the same thing. Please move the shields closer (at least when its on the back) so that there is not a great big hole/gap. There is also a gap when you hold it, but I don’t know if you can really fix that with the crystals. However, everything else looks amazing. Love how the dyes look on the light armor. Great job!

So once legendary armor was announced to be exclusive to raids I had lost 99% of my interest on the spot, I don’t want to spend time dealing with that toxic community for some skins that will also cost me a bunch of money. Then I saw the skins and that other 1% practically backflipped out the window.

Between the clipping, the armor making some weapons sit in odd positions and the absolute insult that is the medium legs transformation…. this is something I just won’t touch. I will still wish that the stat swapping and rune swapping aspect were available to people who don’t mess with raids, even if it were a more expensive or time consuming method.

I like some aspects of the medium armor. But transformation into a trenchcoat, with no option to keep it in one of the two modes, and the high heel boots for an adventure armor class. Not the best ideas. The wyvern skulls and whatnot are cool, but meh..

It’s awful compared to the heavy armor.

What the heck is with ArenaNet’s armor design team? It’s like they have no conception of simplicity or elegance. Please bring back the Guild Wars 1 armor design team!

GW1 also had a LOT of terrible reskins with random, ugly details added in. That’s Anet’s armor design for you. They’ve already proven for years and years that they can rarely design a good armor set without overdesigning it with useless crap.

The thing that GW1 had for it, though, was that it was easier to create armor back then. This meant there was more diversity and that we would get more sets more frequently, so the chances of getting something that actually looks good were higher.

Even so, let me remind you that male elementalists had to wait until Factions to have a gray armor that did not look ridiculous, and they had to wait until Nightfall to get non-grey armor.

Ultimately, bad armor is merely a Guild Wars franchise tradition. To this day, I still ask myself how can a company with some of the greatest artists in the industry be so incredibly bad at designing armor sets.

i’d love to try for the heavy armor set, but rl commitments and a janky connection at the best of times kinda precludes from even attempting raids. that’s the disappointment for me, doing fractals for Ad Infinitum was doable enough thank goodness with pugs, due to their short nature, so yeah it feels a bit exclusionary but I suppose they needed something to sell with raids. too bad it’s content I cannot experience.

I paid for it when I preordered HoT, it’s really something I wanted. Then I didn’t have the patience to wait for who knows how long, so I barely touched the game.

Meanwhile the Mac client stopped working at a playable framerate, besides all the other problems like the constant crashes that makes most boss encounters, large map events and WvW unplayable.

So, don’t get me wrong, I think the new skins look amazing: Congratulation.
Just wished I could have seen it in the game, you know, since I paid for it and contributed to your company buy buying more than a reasonable amount of gems for WvW transfers and skins.

That’s the intent. Anet did as little as possible to make the appearance of the armor unique, added the features to make it Legendary, and will then go back to pushing outfits.

That theory is erroneous since the Legendary Armor will provide unique pompous effects that won’t be visible unless you use the skin.

The product has to be viable on some level, but I don’t think moving parts are going to change that many peoples opinions about the medium and light armor. I mean, up until this release, Ascended gear was pretty darn prestigious if you were into having best stats, but I don’t see that many people using the skins. As with all the skins, there are people that like them a lot (I happen to like the medium ascended armor chest/legs/boots), but when the player base has been saying for a long time that they don’t want anymore trench coats, and Anet turns around and delivers a trench coat for the most anticipated armor release in the game…. yeah.. they want people to make the gear, then buy an outfit to cover it.

Where are my gem sales? I want gem sales! Nerf EVERYTHING!

Agreed. I want some decent, classic fantasy GW armor sets too, not this modern, sci-fi looking stuff.

Almost all my chars use mixed sets simply because Anet has not created one decent set except for some heritage sets.

This thread makes me sad. I was considering rolling an Engi again and actually trying to make it work. I loved the class long time ago with all it’s toys but i really sucked at it and was never comfortable.

I main a Warrior now and was hoping for something more unique. Now I understand why I never see an Engi when playing through PvE.

Don’t be sad because as of currently Engineer has the Highest Condition Damage in the game which is why it is still useful in Raids for heavy condition damage.

The problem is for Engineer though is that it does not provide much options with gameplay style if players want to perform the peak damage output which once again is Engineer’s Condition Damage.

Power damage is lacking and the Scrapper Elite Spec did not do much with providing a new experience for Engineer compared to the other elite specs. Scrapper unique function was just adding the F button to have auto res and auto finisher.

Only way I see Engineer getting popular beyond the small amount of the community that see the unique potential for Engineer’s future gameplay and Elite Specs is to release a new Elite Spec that provides a new unique experience for Engineer that does not require them to depend so greatly on kits as Engineer depends on now.

Also, when Players play their character they want to play as something that actually use their Main Weapon most of the time but with Engineer 90% of gameplay for the best outcome in damage results is to depend on Kits.

I thought they needed more time to rework them based on the criticism they got from the first sets?

I mean, heavy looks fine (we saw them on humans already) and on charr it looks properly menacing. I’ll make a great transformer out of it.
However medium is just a fancy Arah armor, with trenchcoats and the same skulls we have on almost every bone armor. It is more or less the most boring one of the three.
btw. is that the battle mode? it does look very subdued.

The light armor is as weird as i thought it would be. So it is a leather style, bellydancer with dragons and crystals, as well as facemask? At least for females, which means males get the stuck up, boring version i believe. So far most fears came true here. To busy and weird. I mean what’s up with the floating crystals in front of my face? Way to much frontloaded. Do these crystals float around my upper body like a dome? I like the idea, but the execution somehow doesn’t jive with me… Aside from the gimmick this isn’t better as an outfit to be honest. It feels like they took medium armor and slapped it on a light armor with some crystals.

They look interesting and I need to see them in action (we need a proper video demonstration), but they kinda feel too normal. How about compairson-shots of normal vs. battle mode?

Don’t get me wrong, they don’t look soo bad, but as they are presented here, not legendary. We got better outfits and since I don’t buy these (and never intend to do so) it seems like i have to pick up raiding for my heavy.

It doesn’t matter one bit that Legendary armors are not out yet. If only one pic shows a trench coat then it also makes the statement that Anet has shown no flexibility in styles ever since 2012. They also have been dead silent on the subject ever since, show me one thread on the subject with an Anet reply worth reading, I dare you. You can be a total and faithful fan if you like it’s your right but doing so doesn’t help.

Nothing will change the fact that generally speaking light armor = skirt pants combo
and medium armor = trench coats it’s been this way for close to 5 years and showing no signs of change.

If I were allowed to ask Anet 1 question without fans getting in the way, it would be this. Why was skimpy armor doable and ethically moral for GW 1 and suddenly not doable and unethical in GW 2?

I would be astonished if Anet replied to this question.

O.k maybe a second question, Anet can I get a skimpy light armor with spike to go?
To finish my post with sarcasm here goes, at least it’s a new fashion skirt pants and trench coats are still here but now they have a twist, I mean spikes. Now you can look like a porcupine and kill your enemies and friends in battle by accident and without the use of a weapon. Aim your armor at your enemy and charge it’s that simple, why use magic?

I like the heavy set and don’t know about the light, since it seems very dependent on the VFX with it.

IMO, I think they should have made the armor less about physical appearance and more about an VFX aura you get, maybe even choosing from a group of auras to display.. That along with full stat swapping would have made it work for me.

That would allow me to choose whatever skin I want/like with a cool aura and setting my stats for the situation. Doing it this way would increase the value of the armor in my mind and actually be something I’d want to work for. As it stands now, since the medium is so ugly (IMO) I wouldn’t waste my time.
