They are all about what I expected. So while I’m not “disappointed”, I am certainly underwhelmed.

Also, the next person who adds a trenchcoat to this game should be fired on the spot.

“Manages to disappoint” implies that being impressive was almost a guaranteed thing. Considering how many people have been disappointed by legendaries already that was not an appropriate expectation.

Don’t even get me started on that Legendary Rifle!

The title was made that way to sort of be like a “Who would have thunk” kind of title.

Pick a skin, any skin. 10% of people hate it, 10% love it (if not more of each). There’s literally no way to please everyone, some people are never pleased. All each of us can do is describe our own preferences.

Like other veterans, I have 1000s of skins unlocked and I really only like a tiny handful. ANet’s design team has a different aesthetic than I. They love skulls and spikes and nekkid armor, and all sorts of other things I dislike.

But that’s doesn’t mean the skins they do release are ‘bad’ — some of the designs are tremendous; they just aren’t ones I’d be caught dead in.

I hear what you are saying and I totally agree. However you missed the point. I think I was pretty clear, but of course I make sense to my self.

What I was saying is they spent a lot of time working on the BEST possible gear in the game that we can obtain, and they managed to make it look worse that I could have imagined. That is unacceptable by my standards. If you are okay with that sort of development method than that’s you. This is The Guild Wars 2 Discussion Forums. Stating obvious things like “SUBJECTIVE LIKES AND DISLIKES” doesn’t add anything to the discussion. That is obvious.

TBD doesn’t mean “we are taking our time”. TBD means “we don’t know what to do here yet”.

Druid and Scrapper were made by the same developer. While Druid was well discussed with the dev, got a lot of player feedback and saw a bunch of changes before release, Scrapper was shown at the last possible minute, and got NOT even 1 adjustment before the launch of HoT.

The dev promised to see if something could be done to improve the Scrapper spec mechanic in the future. Apparently, nothing, because then the communication ended, to never be reestablished again.

To this day, nothing has been done to improve FGyro value on PvE, gyro’s pathing and IA. Scrapper’s trait line synergy with the rest of the profession is the only thing that has seen some work, always attached to nerfs.

So… yes. I think we do get the shorter stick.

Bomb Kit Rework?

No, because the engie is supposed to be clunky. Purity of purpose!

Personally I wish they would combine grenade and bombkit into one, removing redundant skills and making something viable where you can combo tossing explosives and dumping it at your feet.

To make it clear:
Cleansing burst is activated on the next spin of the turret.
If you press 6 in middle, or even the begining of the first spin, cleansing burst will activate on second one. This means also that if you have lag or bad ping, this will work kinda random to you.

To do “instant combo”, you need to just “mash” your 6’th healing slot and if you see water or AoE circle F1 it. You need to mash becouse window between placing turret and the first spin is very very short, and if you happen to have bad connection, bad news to you.

Tl;dr. You need to cleansing burst instantly after placing, if you are late, F1 after second spin – Cleansing burst doesn’t cancel ongoing spin – isn’t instant

After you placed the healing turret an initial 3 second cooldown starts, so if you overcharge it the actual overcharge will go off during the first 3 second tick. If you overcharge immediately after placing it, the overcharge will trigger instantly because you get the first tick. If you overcharge 0,5 sec after placing it you have to wait 2,5sec for the waterfield because you missed the first tick and have to wait for the 2nd one 3 seconds later.

I am sharing this here because I believe WP did an awesome job, no, grande job in wording the thoughts many of us had. A few more videos are incoming, I’ll update this list. I personally agree with the majority of what he’s said so far, possibly we’re optimistic gamers. But there are less optimistic people out there and their judgements are equally valid. They actually listen to WP, so there’s hope here.

According to Anet logic next fix for that would be:

Patch 1.01

  • Decrased Bomb auto-attack damage by 50% becouse purity of purpose
  • Increased Rocket Boots damage by 10%
  • Reduced Gear shield durration by 1 second

Problem solved, now all other skills has bigger DPS than bomb and you can use them!.

What really bothers me about the kits is that most people take them for only one or two skills and occasionally the toolbelt. You could probably squeeze every useful kit skill into two kits for major efficiency and simplification. Those two kits would be seriously powerful, but I can’t help but think it would be an improvement overall.

As to kit purity it really makes sense. I’d suggest hybrid grenades + hybrid bombs to balance them with other kits and provide option of medium/melee range explosives synergy. Condi-flame thrower is pretty much the way most people are leaning and it really makes sense. Seriously reworked power tool-kit, to give a stable alternative to hammer, providing much needed defences to core engi. Can’t help think that it would synergise well with Scrapper too, making it a proper control-freak and get some use out of Impact Savant.

Honestly the only way I see Engineer to get out of its position as bottom of the barrel is for Anet to give Engineer a very good Elite Specialization that can finally remove the demand to depend on kits for 90% of the Profession’s gameplay.

As nice as kits are majority of the builds and gameplay style of Engineer has been put too much focus on the Kits instead of Engineer’s main weapon.

I share our pain. I’ve played YEARS GW2, from BWE2 till now, engineer all the time 3k hours + on my engie.
Aaaand it’s the same story all the time!

  • Arena.net releases engineer as last class in beta
  • People reaction that engineer is clunky and very strange to play. Most of skills seems done only to fill the skillslot.
  • Anet promises to keep that in mind and tweak some stuff.
  • No stuff was tweaked.
  • After launch community outcry that class isn’t ballanced, large part of skills has no use, some skills are hillariously overpowered (nades damage, or 100-nades burst)
  • 2 years passes, anet reworks how trait works. Adds new and fun traits – Turreter becoming viable build in PvP
  • Community outcries that turreter is to easy to play and counters to many builds.
  • After 2 months of turrets being usefull Anet DESTROYS turrets, making them made of paper and die in matter of seconds. Ballance successfull! Nobuddy plays turrets from now on (beside Healing turret combo – which isn’t intended how turrets was played in the begining, same stuff goes with Rifle turret for SD burst)
  • HoT is announced. Engineer community HYPED as kitten after seeing ROCKET EXPLOSIVE HAMMER – which was later scrapped to be electric hammer
  • Same as engineer Scrapper is released as LAST proffesion. Spec seems to be “scrapped” from their class mechanic – which was later “hinted” by Irenio. Spec seems to be rushed, half of traits are underwellming, utility skills – gyros doesn’t fallow you corectly, toolbar skills from then are trash – beside being combo fields only – to be combo-able with 2! skills which are finishers in Scrapper kitten nal. Whole spec feels to be mess, however ONE build thanks to 2 great traits gets to meta – offtank Scraper whos based on superspeed HP regen and damage mitigation – gets nerfed later date
  • Engineer community outcry that class mechanic is usable only in PvP scenario, and spec seems to be unfinished and needs some work!. But there’s no time to do it, HoT is already launching.
  • Same story again. Irenio promises some reworks in Future’tm – and that was his last post in this subforum.
  • Silience. Spec still is mess, but thanks to it’s offtank ability still is in PvP meta.
  • I wonder if the story will repeat itself with #Exp2 which is comming to us soon tm.

kitten, I was so hyped on Scrapper and what I’ve got is only broken promises and scraped Elite Specialization – Scrapper – pun intended.
I still dream that someday we will see some reworks to Engie and his Elite Spec.

[…] in all honesty Condi Engineers likely don’t have all that much fun jumping between 5 weapons (25 different skills), to use barely half of them, and that’s before managing tool belt skills. […]

Do not assume that.
If you look on topics of why people like playing engi, the number of skills is a common one.

Removing or merging kits from engi would destroy great part of its appeal to some people.

Bombs and nades are more hybrid than just power or condi sets. And they work fine as they are, as you can trait for the side you want or use the hybrid approach.

What about Taimi? In my opinion she definitely is an engineer.

She’s defined as an Engineer… yet, she has never made use of her engi powers at practice, as an Asura you don’t need to be an Engineer to be a genius, so, besides her current outfit, she has done little to nothing related to be an Engineer…

(I bet she doesnt know about Mecha Legs , that could help with her crippling problem…)

The trait system needs a big rework. I dont know if any1 thought about what to put where and if sth is usefull or if the just brainstormed some traits and then randomly threw them in.
Turrents would be easy to fix in my oppinion.
Give them a fixed time they exist.
Let them only overload once (and explode at the end).
And get rid of the explode turrent that overwrites your toolbelt skill.
The recharge starts when the turrent exploded.
now you just have to balence the dmg, range and overload for PvE and PvP seperately and you’re good to go.
PS gadgets could need a lil more dmg in PvE to match the kits.

It wasn’t an accident. I’ve had dh launch me 50 meters in the air for an instant kill using a similar bug on Temple, pulling me through an obstacle.

Ranger also deliberately use the longbow knockback to do this.

Sadly, some players in this game are very prone to gaming the system.

Will it be fixed? No, I don’t think so. I think it’s for the same general reasons you can hit through a wall or obstacle in many cases.

This topic has been said countless times prior and there is an easier way to reason that W3 and W4 will never come other than some color order.

Go into SAB and look at the world maps and all the worlds you’ve been prior the red path of progress from the start up to the storm cliffs and down to the robbers area. Then look at what awaits us in W3 and even the title of the next zone called sparkling POOLS.

W3 is underwater content and at this point everyone knows how Anet feels about water/underwater content.

To be honest and a bit frank, it is sad that this video even had to happen. The volume and wealth of feedback that kept coming for quite a while after the expac, with fingers pointing at those areas that are under performing (traits, rifle, shield, gadgets, turrets) which when you look at those things is perhaps over 50% of the Engineer’s available kitten nal.

Unless you only ever used Kits, these issues would never come to light. Whenever people think of turrets they always assume that the turret themselves should be focused on. I suggest looking at perhaps reducing their cool-downs, returning the rifle turret to the Elite Supply Crate and then focusing on buffing the performance of the tool-belt skills associated with them rather than making turrets themselves do more. Turrets should stay as Utilities and the Tool-Belt skills become more spiking pressure and power oriented.

Gadgets come up often but their problem is that they are so niche that they don’t often fit in well with many builds. Rocket Boots needs a stun breaker. Personal Battering should perhaps Fear opponents off to your sides and back just like a real battering ram. Throwing Mine is a projectile that takes a while to arrive at point and when it does everyone knows where it is, It needs to do more damage than it currently does OR passively every 9 seconds pull opponents in towards it. The Goggles do nothing really even though the buff to it’s cool-down time is greatly appreciated, instead if it breaks stun it should give quickness, otherwise grant 5 stacks of might (as well as fury and blind resistance).

Rifle skills need cool-down reductions OR damage increases. Rifle 4 needs to do more, perhaps drop a blind field OR evade backwards. Rifle 5’s animation needs to give you more range OR cover ground faster so that you can actually kite with the weapon effectively. Rifle AA does nothing, synergizes with nothing and does not scale well with power, as a result targets with significant armor simply feel as though they out-passively-heal your ‘pressure’ and it’s even worst than what is being said here because it doesn’t apply anything else to create any other kind of pressure.

My thought is make them immune to damage, but add a small breakbar, just like 100-200, something that any dedicated CC ability would knock them right out. Note at 100 even just a chill would take them out in 3-4s, why I’m thinking 200 is probably the

to build on this:
in addition to being immune to damage, they’ll need to be immune to condis or otherwise unepidemicable, otherwise epidemic makes them a suicidal noob trap.

now, if you allow condi applications on them, there’s already a mechanic in place to handle soft cc: break bar regen. tune appropriately without raising the max break health so high that weak ccs can’t kill.

I rather like the idea.

but it sounds programming intensive.

But, we don’t need them going back to how they were.

That sentence alone summarizes why turrets have been ignored all this time, Anet doesn’t wanna buff the turrets because they were controversial back then for being unfairly easy to play, compared to what the rest had to do for stay in line.

I agree there’s many stuff that they could do for buff them, but the community will whine about it if turrets get buffs? that’s the issue.

Right now they have the free card of buff gadgets as they need fixes too, prob turrets will be ignored until they are the only thing that sucks from us.

I don’t think you’ll find anyone that would disagree that something needs to change with turrets. But, we don’t need them going back to how they were. They need to remain easily destroyed because they were just bad for PVP (of course that was pre-HoT now you have so many passive things going on I wonder if it would even be considered a problem?)

My thought is make them immune to damage, but add a small breakbar, just like 100-200, something that any dedicated CC ability would knock them right out. Note at 100 even just a chill would take them out in 3-4s, why I’m thinking 200 is probably the right spot.

With that they’d be useable in most PVE as CC attacks from enemies are less common than just splash damage, and with proper positioning even enemies that do have regular CC attacks (much of HoT) wouldn’t hit them. For PVP they’d still be easily dealt with by just tossing out some CC.

I think Turrets would still need a few more tweaks to be in a good place, but they’d at least be useable in the way they were before. I really liked WoodenPotato’s idea of keeping the toolbelt skills available while the turret is placed, with that and a fix to the durability issue I could see turrets getting a bit more use.

It just feels like they didnt flesh out the Engi traits well, or do enough testing. Soothing Detonation stands out for me as a key example of a trait that has the same issues as the traits in the Explosives line WP mentioned.

It is meant to enhance our blast finishers yet only has a 240 radius and not 360 like a blast. Shouldnt a trait that is meant to enhance the effectiveness of our blasts have the same radius as a blast finisher?

Armor Repair feels pointless

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I disagree that it should be removed. It’s meant to be a punishment for dying… and it is. For GW2, it makes sense that it’s almost entirely a cosmetic issue rather than a significant one.

I’m not sure why anyone thinks that armor repair ever had any more meaning that it does today — the only thing that changed since launch was how much you paid for repairs. It was a substantive fee for new accounts and never more than a trivial amount for veterans, i.e. it was roughly the same chore that it is today.

I think it continues to be a minor reminder that dying has consequences. In the spirit of GW2, that reminder is relatively painless.
