Should decrease its reaction time so it starts to move instantly as you start moving.

Just rework idiotic gyros to work as PBAoE auras.

Maybe in one or two years.

In response to WoodenPotatoes recent video about “What Does Path of Fire Fail To Deliver?”

I agree with everything he said in this video however I would like to add that regarding library I would like to see them to take the opportunity to build a web portal and mobile app to incorporate things like a library, inventory system, achievements, build tracking, chat (text and voice) system and various shareable community features.

I’m sure I’m atypical in that I use multiple computers (connected via Synergy) nearly all the time. I would love to have a web interface on my browsing PC to show maps, handle chats, etc while I’m in the game. I’m sure there are many people who use two monitors on a single PC which if the game is run in Windowed mode could do the same thing with the second monitor.

I’d love to be able to run a limited GUI (not fully off) just showing the minimum needed while all the other info is displayed on the other screen.

On a side note regarding Windowed mode; I would like to see them add options for a maximized window mode so that you don’t have to resize it to fit while keeping the task bar is visible and an HD button on the title bar to allow users with larger monitors (wide screen, 4K, etc) to set the window to precisely 1920×1080 so that people who stream or record game videos can capture exact HD sized video.

One thing that WP didn’t mention is that they didn’t deliver a homestead option. I think that could be easily done via the existing guild hall system by allowing the player along with the other members of Dragon’s Watch to capture a special guild hall map to which could act as a customizable homestead of sorts along with a story hub. The player’s home instance upgrades could be transplanted to the Dragon’s Watch Guild Hall. Players could issue entry permits to friends.

… to parrot a thing I’ve said before – I think they should revamp the engineer 1-weapon idea and give a second slot (in the player menu, like normal) where you choose a skill kit. In your skill selection, this kit gets greyed out.

That way all engineers including elite specs get at least 1 kit even if they choose nothing in their 3 skill slots, at a slight disadvantage of swap cd and of course you cant put sigils in it.

All buff no nerf for a kittening change.

I’m a cishet male

Wtf is a “cishet”?

Male assigned at birth, male identifying, but non-conforming heterosexual.

Okay… and what does any of that mean? Explain it to me like I’m 6.

Cis stands for comfortable in skin.

Your sex and your gender match up (you’re not transgender).

Then het for heterosexual. So, cishet.

Actually cis is a Latin prefix that means ‘same as’, the opposite of trans. For example in molecular chemist you get cis isomers where all the functional groups in a molecule are on the same side, and trans isomers where they’re on opposite sides.

I suspect ‘comfortable in skin’ is a backronym.

First of all, I’m a woman and I have no trouble playing as male characters in the game. I like the idea of having characters unique from each other and I’m not the type of player that tries to create “myself” as a character and it’s not important for me to be able to “identify” with the character I play.
Second of all, I’ve been playing since 2014 and I’ve never had any players hit on my characters, even though some of them are females. Didn’t even know this was a thing.. At least not in Guild Wars.
Third of all, in Guild Wars, as with most MMORPGS and other computer games, the majority of players are men, so most female characters you see in the game are actually played by men.

And I think it’s very unnecessary to make claims about what kind of people chooses to play as certain characters. Your analysis only speaks for your personal thoughts and choices regarding characters, not anyone else’s.

At one point in time, the engineer went from being a CC king to …. rather restricted. The power creep and passive defense of elites has made it much less effective. Did you know Overcharged Shot was once a matter of great QQ? It’s crazy to think about it nowadays.

The removal of the daze gyro (meaning if you take them, you get NO cc) and the nerf to thunderclap was a crippling blow. Yes, there’s still some decent skills left but it’s not what it was.

What does this have to do with anything? Well, your range could suck if you can tie people down…. this is no longer the case.

The weapons MUST be improved, fixed and balanced on their own. Rifle have to be repaired so it properly works with vanilla engie, pistols and shield HAVE to be balanced so they become desirable outside any Elite Spec.

I think that’s a fair statement as well, and hopefully we see some buffs to rifle with the PoF balance patch. Although a lot of damage for base Engi comes our kits, we shouldn’t have to run a kit to be able to put out damage.

Unfortunately, that’s the case with most professions; they’re bottle necked into a few builds while the rest of the abilities and weapons collect dust. I think that almost all base professions need a buff/rework so that they’re more competitive and on par with elite specializations.

Whose soul do I have to reap to get a Necro rework around here?

I am going to voice my opinion, with the high hopes that Arena Net reads this and considers this. Not sure how possible that is, but I still want to voice my opinion about a few things wrong with the Engineer that could use some work. I will first express why I think it’s a little wrong, and then leave some feedback on some possible ways to improve the areas Engineer is really weak.

So, Engineer is considered to be the jack of all trades. What this means to me is, it can do very very well in any role, but not every role. Meaning whatever role it decides to specialize in, it can fulfill that role with exceptional results. However, this is not the case at all. In fact, far from the case, and I think that is a huge problem. some kits work very well, while others fall way behind. The traits are also really needing some work as well.
While I think the current meta is nice with the scrapper build that uses hammer, elixir gun, and menders amulet with water runes, I find it quire boring. It is a neat build, but it’s really the only good thing for Engineer right now in pvp. Mass Momentum was really hyped up pre launch heart of thorns to really help the flamethrower shine, but it doesn’t at all. It seems to really want you to go into a amulet that includes defense, which is cool. But the only ones to do so are Wanderer’s, Demolisher’s, Knight’s, Paladin’s, and Cavalier’s. What could be the problem you ask? Wanderer’s and demolisher’s have no HP investment in them. So having that extra defense is quite pointless, since having toughness does almost nothing to mitigate damage whatsoever. I mean, even druid healers can still destroy you quite easily, even with all that toughness invested into your player. Quite sad. Paladin’s has the Hp investment, but with how weak flamethrower is right now, it doesn’t put out nearly enough damage, even with 20+ stacks of might loaded onto it. Cavalier’s is a nice option to go to, but it has no precision. so you can’t maximize damage with the flamethrower still, because now you lack crits. It’s like flamethrower is in this place of doom and dread, destined to stay there for eternity. It’s barely even viable in pve, let alone pvp. It really needs work, along with the traits that affect it.

If the Engineer is really supposed to be the jack of all trades, its traits selection and build should be diverse to reflect this. However, it seems that most of the traits are suggesting being a self supporting bunker style character. Which would then take away the notion that the Engineer is the jack of all trades.
Here is what I think should happen to some of these traits to help give the Engineer some more diversity. High caliber in the firearms trait line should increase damage as well as critical chance when at a specific range. This range should be increased, from 240 to about 360, or 425, the range that the flamethrower maxes out at. This would be a lovely little change that could really change the way flamethrower is played, as well as some burst builds that involve rifle’s blunderbuss skill, and possibly bomb kit. No Scope trait in firearms should also get a range increase, and maybe also increase the critical damage bonus by a small %, maybe 10-15. Range should also match the flamethrower’s max range. Juggernaut is pretty good, I like it the way it is, though I think it should also see a toughness boost on top of its effects already, as well as maybe either a faster application of stab and might, but also maybe a longer duration for the might granted. If the Juggernaut is supposed to be some “unstoppable” style of play with the flamethrower, then shouldn’t it be shown some love to encourage this kind of balls to the wall, in your face, burn it all down playstyle? I think so.

In the scrapper trait line, Mass momentum really needs love. With the change suggested earlier in this post about juggernaut, it could then be maybe somewhat viable with the toughness to power application, but it would still probably be a little lackluster. I think it should apply 2 might per second of stab uptime, instead of 1, and maybe scale off of toughness by 20% instead of 10%, or just get rid of the toughness scaling altogether. Where it stands right now, compared to rapid regeneration, it’s completely useless, and doesn’t do much if anything at all for the flamethrower or anything else. Applied force should see some kind of change too, Just not too sure what. Where it stands, it is useless when compared to the other choices of traits, and doesn’t really have any use in any build. It could work well with flamethrower, if it was just a little better. Suggestions anyone?

Flamethrower kit should be reworked to suit its intended playstyle better. Right now, it’s not that good at condi because of how the 2 skill works as well as the 4 skill, and it’s not really a power kit either because of the low damages on all the other skills, as well as the auto attack. 2 skill should be something different instead of a slow molten ball that you hope will kit. Something with a little less counter play, it has way too much as it is now. Maybe make it some kind of 2 shot burst that you use that functions similar to the auto attack, except a little quicker and cool looking. 4 skill should be a burning field, much like bomb kit’s 2 skill, because that line of fire that you lay down just doesn’t do anything. It’s too easy to get away from, literally step forward or backward out of it and voila, no more worries. I think rifle should see some kind of buff as well, it doesn’t do much in terms of damage, if it’s supposed to be a damage weapon at all. It has some CC that is good, but it’s too easy to counter. Maybe make the 4 skill on rifle unblockable, to make the skill have less counter play than it has currently. Also, maybe give blunderbuss some ammo mechanic? and give 5 skill on rifle an invuln while jumping? That would help it out.
Please consider this. Thanks.

Playing a toon of the opposite gender?

I usually just port over character aesthetics from ones which I play in D&D. It’s probably around 50/50, though there is absolutely no denying I have nearly all of my play-hours on male characters. My D&D buddies used to give me a bit of kitten for playing females, but they eventually realized playing outside of my skin made me a way better player at the RP elements of tabletop gaming, and almost all of my female characters have at some point topped everyone’s list as “favorite character ever,” whereas my male ones were often quite bland because I’d all too often inject my own self into the character rather than taking things as the character would. The alien nature of playing a totally different gender really changed my mind quite a lot in terms of how I approached tabletop games from then on. Important note: I don’t e-RP in games. It’s not very good. And usually ends up with bedroom talk which is just weird.

I usually end of maining the male ones because I tend to play with people who are close friends (so there usually ends up being an attachment to character aesthetic/identity), and my D&D characters tend to be too obscure to pull off in any game making the attempts usually result in ineffective builds/strategies. That said, using the fidelity of the model is a totally valid excuse to play something or not.

I’ve never been hit on in GW2 or seen anyone else be hit on in-game unless they go into RP groups or try to make their character as minimally-dressed as possible and beg for attention or whatever, but RP groups are usually all… “heated” conversations as it is. Understand your environment and play accordingly. You’ll up your chances by playing a female, obviously, but I’d see it as hilarious to be able to tell some weirdo over the internet who’kittenting on me that I’m actually a dude.

At the end of the day, do whatever you’re most comfortable with, OP.

Turret Balance suggestion

Are.1326

At this point I think a complete redesign is in order to make turret a selling point for engineers. They would have to cut one of the following aspects of turrets tho:

  • Long lasting
  • Stationary
  • AI driven

Personally I’d like to see the AI aspect go. Turrets lasting long is one of those things that fits thematically and makes them stand out from other abilities. It reenforces the engineers theme as a base builder. So does their stationary nature, it helps them stand out from other classes with minions.

Typically I just jam a couple of water fields and burst finishers into my utility bar for heal emergencies and call it a day.

Supply Crate is very nice for that. Time it right and you can use Heal Turret’s F1 skill for a Heal blast combo with Supply Crate for a nice little combo, and then overcharge the Supply Crate’s own Heal Turret before detonating for another Heal burst.

Shield 4 can be double-tapped to burst off of a water field, too,, and both Flamethrower AND Elixir Gun have Burst Finishers, and on it goes. It’s an easy way to splash some heals around.

Problem still being that while you are doing all the fancy combos the class have, condis still tick for more damage than you heal while you are just giving the enemy free reign to apply even more.

Its like a rap battle, except the guy you are trying to show off against is weilding a claymore. And he doesnt like rap.

I don’t know what it is, but females just look more badas@ when they fight :P

In all games up to and including the start of Guild Wars 1, I always created male characters. Of course, I am male. I didn’t think about it; in my characters I saw myself playing that game.
One day, I ranted about my ugly male elementalist in GW1 (in GW1 character models were fixed and not customizable), and in Teamspeak one fellow asked: “why did you not create a female character, if the male model doesn’t please you?”

That question took me by surprise, and I thought and I pondered, and I did not find any answer apart from “That guy is right. Why on earth did I go along with that ugly male model, when I can have the most sexiest character model of GW1?” (the female elementalist model in GW1 was indeed the most sexiest character model)

I was not able to bring myself to remake my established old main character, but from then on I chose the gender of new characters from the visual appearance. I stopped creating my virtual self for the game, I started to create characters I intended to play in that game. In GW2, I think I have about 50% male and 50% female characters, and also a mix of all races. Creating every character as male human would be too flat and too boring in the end.

The kitten filter makes some of the replies here hilarious. :p

I chose all my chars in CRPGs based on class and their personality. If it’s a brute/warrior, shiny protector or just plain evil it’s going to be male. If it’s a caster, sneaky thief or subtly evil, it’s mostly female. Maybe cliché, but that’s what almost all RPGs are about! The only time I don’t chose females with the above pattern is when they are overly sexualized. Which Charr thankfully are not.

Sadly I find GW2’s story in general is breaking the immersion too often to really RP a character through it. There are no choices so my toon is more something to watch in a story than to experience it. With pen&paper I only chose males.

But I honestly don’t find it even worth discussing what sort of character someone plays. I have only once in another game had someone kinda “stalk” me when playing a female character. Maybe because I will always play a non-human race and they don’t look very “girly”. Ignore and move on, also never tell them if you’re female or male! ;)

When I was a young lad I felt the same OP but as the years went by I began to shift from seeing the char on screen as myself to just seeing it as a protagonist on screen. Meaning playing female char’s became a thing for me (I still also play male char’s as well) where I also got the added bonus of looking at some nice eye candy.

I had the same thing.. Used to think it was weird for people to play opposite genders in games, but eventually I started opening up to playing female characters because as a straight guy, I figured why not play a character I like to look at? (I love anything that resembles a sexy woman). Also, as someone who LOVES to customize stuff and make everything look nice, female characters in gw2 (and in some other games) generally have more unique clothing and hair styles, making them more fun to customize… so yeah, I play a few female characters now, but only asuras atm because they are freaking adorable (especially when they make that cute little “rahhhhhh”).
