I haven’t seen all 4 maps queued in T1 but I’ve only been here since HoT. The most I’ve seen since I’ve been here is a queue on EBG and maybe 1 or 2 bls with small queues not over 10 – 15 but even that was a rare thing..
When I logged in a few hours ago EBG was outnumbered in T1
Prior to HoT, it was normal to have all 4 maps queued in T1, not just for reset either. Hot just made so many players quit the game that was no longer the case. Players coming back in hopes of them fixing it ( giving Anet another chance) would be what they want to happen, but if they cannot play at all and the changes are not what they asked for, you can expect them to just leave again. People saying the " queues will die down" should understand that is the worst thing that could happen, as them dying down means all those players just left the game again.
This is their opportunity to increase the number of players playing and improve the health of the game, if they blow that chance, that means they lost an opportunity to prevent the games decline. Players should want the game to keep growing, not die. Asking them not to make improvements that actually solve these issues long term is just asking them to kill the game faster.
Indeed but players should correctly convey they want anet to use a similar format for na as they do for eu rather than have a knee-jerk and immature reaction by asking to have the system completely removed.
From simple observation of the forums, i believe it can be seen that almost if not all eu players strongly feel this was a step in the right direction.

Guys IT IS TOO SOON to have any opinion on the issue.
Give it a few weeks. Everyone wanted to do WvW and see the changes. Ofc we will see ques.
But that is great! That means we still have a vast amount of ppl interested in WvW.
I would be more worried if there wasn’t queue times yesterday.
Now please, settle down a bit and let things normalize before you come up with an opinion.

it is an interesting system. and ideally it would help... unfortunately the implementation leaves much to be desired. in my opinion the T1/T2 servers were probably loaded enough to stay as is.. on paper to Anet it probably sounded great to combine T1 and T8... give T8 more people to play with, and not increase T1 significantly... however, as has been stated more than once by multiple people... there are many people in the lower tiers because they didn’t like the blob on blob fights... some even because their computers can’t handle a huge blob. they purposely transferred to T6/T7/T8, and have now been thrown back against their will into the blob.
personally... i think something more like this would have been a bit smarter:
T1/T2- left alone
T3 +T4
T5+T6
T7+T8
or perhaps
T1/T2 unchanged
T3+T6
T4+T7
T5+T8
then the disparities between what was and what is for the lowest tiers are not so stark.
this may not be a GREAT solution, but as this is a BETA test, and they already said it will be changed much more often till they get things situated, at which point it will most likely settle down to being seasonal... maybe they can try this next... it keeps the high pop servers as they are for the most part, and more preserves the small group feel that lower tier servers had.
as for queues... yeah they suck, but this is "THE NEW SHINY™" and everyone and their uncle’s dog is going to be playing right now. the queues WILL settle down. take the opportunity to get to know the improved BLs (if you aren’t queued there too, that is, but they aren’t as popular, so you’re more likely to get on them much faster), do some dungeons or fractals to make some gold... try a new character... or catch up on your favorite show... but don’t give up hope. this is live beta. things are crazy, but they aren’t going to STAY this way. honest.

In a way we really can’t just base it off of reset night.. I played Tuesdays patched and liked all the changes we got but I didn’t play the rest of the week until Fridays reset.
There was a time that even in the lower tiers we would queue every map during reset.. It used to be a normal thing but after the weekend and outside of primetime those queues were gone.
I think lots of people came back to see what Fridays change did and over time it will die down. If you never experienced massive queues on reset then you missed a lot of the older days of wvw.
Title more or less there was alot of hype for this change and ALOT of people showed up who don’t normally all log on at the same time. Just give it time for the hype to wear off before you judge queues and such.

Always looking for fights gvg’s etc just hit me up!
My IoJ account doesn’t enjoy the crazy lag it’s getting, but I understand that this is only their first attempt at this and I understand that there are other factors as well. People need to stop being drama queens. It’s reset after a lot of changes to wvw, there will always be extra activity after a patch. And it’s also a beta, if enough people on T6-T8 prefer being linked to other T6-T8 servers and asks for it in a polite way, they will probably try that.
A lot of the issues could be taken care of if the linking/merges changed from week to week, but from what the devs are saying, that’d take more effort than they’re willing to put in.
It’s more work to change it every week indefinitely because it’s a manual process to link the servers. But currently they are effectively linking biggest servers with smallest servers, they could change that way of approaching it if enough people ask for it and maybe make it so that small servers get linked together and matched up against each other. That’s why it’s a BETA. People need to learn to give feedback in a less whiny overdramatic way.
You dont get it do you.
You don’t get it, do you? Tier 1 NA got the least amount of additional players. A relatively insignificant *number* added to their queues. These map queues are not coming from the server merge. These map queues are coming from the hyped reset night, and the vast majority of those queueing players were already on your servers.
Every server in the game had map queues last night.
It will pass, and it will do so primarily because a large amount of the people who came in last night will not (and would not, under any circumstance) play WvW long-term *and* frequently.
But, you don’t get it, do you?
no... YOU don’t get it....

RvR isn’t “endgame”, it’s the only game. Cu in CU.
These mergers and queues will encourage people to move to tier 3 and 4 now which is a positive for balance . So if you don’t like the queues then move to tier 3 or 4 .This was Anet’s intention to try and balance the tiers and get people to spread out .
this is what you think will happen
Yeah…it’s a little nuts. First night. I logged in and went “nope” and went to netflix and a glass of wine. No chance I’m waiting in a 80 man que to play a video game lol
Just log off read a book, watch a movie, or drink some wine.
this is what WILL happen…
but it IS reset, after a huge change, drawing in new people, and old players who stopped WvWing, plus extra load because extra people… AND it’s beta… so could really be changed and adjusted at any time… we shall see.

Why is it always the us ladder complaining btw?
IF players only have an hour or two to play the game and during that time every map in the match is Queued the entire time, when do they get to play WvW?
If a player buys the game just to play WvW and they make it so they cannot play WvW every time they log in, I would think they should be irritated and let the developers know. These Queues are making it so some players cannot play WvW at all anymore. They are not solving the queue issue by mergings servers, nor does that solve the coverage issues since some servers still have coverage outside of NA prime and others do now so that just makes it worse.
They can easily solve the queue issue and the “coverage wars” by putting more maps in play during busy hours and reducing that number during off hours so you only have enough maps available to accommodate the population of the servers in the match. that solves both issues at once and is a long term solution rather than just make monstrous queues and make the game unplayable for the people trying to play it.
And where is the difference to EU again? You describing a general problem which can be fixed by using the overflow map like it was intended.
An overflow map is not the solution when that map is not even the same game they are trying to play, nor does it impact the score. IF the overflow map allowed them to actually play the game they logged in to play and contributed to the score you would have a point, but they didn’t do that so all that you are saying is they get to log in to play a different game they have no desire to play because the dev’s screwed up the system used to play the game they paid for.
Playing Eotm isn’t what many players bought the game for. When the players filled out the surveys they used to make this game and asked for large scale PvP and were promised WvW, they expected to get that. If all they do is play WvW and would rather play a different game than GW2 at all than go EotM, it is not working as intended is it? I would think the intention would be to increase players not send their business elsewhere due to not being competent enough to design the mode so players spend their time playing it rather than waiting to play eh?
There are solutions for these issues that keep players in the action, not waiting for it. IF it fails to do that it is considered unplayable to many and needs to be fixed. The primary objective of a large scale PvP game mode is to keep players in nonstop challenging, strategic, fun large scale PvP action the entire time they are logged in, where they can play with their family and friends and have players to play with and against every time they log in. IF the game fails to do that it has failed in their objectives and is far form working as intended. No, that means it is terribly broken instead.
EotM is not WvW, nor is it what players would consider a " consolation prize" for not being able to play the game the paid for.bla bla blubb
Yes.. Apparently thinking it is nuts to expect players to spend their game time in the action rather than waiting to get to it is wrong and they should just sit there and wait if they hate EotM rather than go do something fun elsewhere Mr. Blah blah. LOL
This flaw is making the game unplayable to many and should be corrected if they do not wish to further kill the game mode. You should always want more players to play the game mode for the game to grow, not punish them for doing so.
Empty maps aren’t realy promoting this game mode either.
For many players the reason to play WvW is to whack on other servers blobs, best non-stop.
EotM has a bad reputation because of it’s karma trains and some (or many) players don’t like it’s mechanics and layout. But in it’s core it’s not different to eb or borders.
You with your club…enemy with club….slap on.
If the difference for you is only “le tick”….well most don’t give a rats kitten for that.Sincerely
Mr. Blah blah
The proposed solution removes Empty maps, massive queues, and coverage wars as I stated repeatedly they need to have the number of WVW maps in play adjust to population rather than have players wait or have too much map to cover.
EoTm has a bad reputation due to the entire design. The jumpy super mario PVE kittenfest it is is why it turned into a Ktrain to lvl up accounts instead of a playable battlefield. It isn’t considered a good battlefield for Large scale PvP, it is linear, crammed full of PvE gimmicks, lacking strategic value where you are more likely to die from running off the world than at the hands of another player. linear choke points = boring as hell. The " tick" is supposed to be based on PPK, not PPT if the scoring was done properly.
If they did the scoring and rewards right it would be rewarding players for fighting other players over objectives without the use of siege and not rewarding players for PvD kill npc, get chest at all. It would give increased PPK, XP and ascended or legendary loot for fighting other players without the use of siege over objectives ( either attacking or defending) give no reward or XP for killing NPCs and would give no PPK, loot, or xp for siege use on players. Rewarding players for dying as fast as they can so they can go pvd undefended towers and have their zergs siege hump instead of fight is why people no longer care about winning and why many players left the game. To correct this, they need to solve the actual problems causing the problem not just give you some garbage you didn’t ask for instead.

- Queues: Because everyone is rushing in to try shiny new
- Prime-time: Over stacked, hard to play with guild/friends
- Play-style: low-pop-play removed effectively, etc
There are a lot of different points flying around here.
Some of these will improve somewhat with time, in that the “new shiny!” wears off and people goes a bit more passive again, The weekdays etc.
But I absolutely understand XTD’s main point that those that went to lower tiers because they WANTED that play style, just lost it. Myself being one such, that already miss a place to go away from the zergs, heck even OS had something resembling zerg on zerg combat (it was the only map without queue so I had to check).
I think that this would actually be partially solved by adding Dynamic Map Adjustment. Remove the queue’s by opening more maps, shut them down as play number dwindle. This would also let people looking for lesser populated maps be on the look out for newly created maps, and preferably let guilds try to stack for the same instance of a map. I really think this idea should be a corner stone for other fixes and changes to work with.
Do it like this: the playable area is an island. As player population decreases (e.g. nighttime), the sea level increases, reducing the total play area… and as player population increases (e.g. primetime), sea level decreases, revealing more play area.
Or do it a lake in the center of the map. Or a bunch of lakes. Something like that.
It would require a new map though, so maybe in 2019?
Hi all,
Guild leader from Kaineng here; we’ve been on our server since launch, never transferred – we’re core WvW and have fierce pride in our server and our players. So, as you can imagine, server identity and a sense of community are important to us and part of what we love about GW2 and this game mode.
First, I’m pleased that Anet is paying attention to WvW and attempting to address the population issues. I also realize that this is Day One of the beta. However, I hope you take this early feedback to heart.
Being pushed to a T1-2 server might very well destroy our tight-knit and hitherto happy community, so this is a plea from the heart:
Server identity: The sense of server identity for the low tiers is being erased – we don’t show up when we cap, we are a hover-over on the WvW panel, basically we’ve been reduced to non-entities. This may not seem like a big thing but it’s noticeable and has a morale effect.
Playstyle: Guilds like ours stuck around on Kaineng for a specific reason; we don’t transfer up to higher tiers because we love our server and we like the playstyle – creating a system where 90% of the time WvW is zergs/blobs is going to drive many of us away.
Weekends: The queues are bad, although hopefully that will ease up. However, if there’s always a queue on the weekend nights, and if it’s always zergs and blobs those nights, the weekend warrior guilds like us are in trouble – this is when we get together to WvW and without that, well I have no idea what we’ll do.
Outcome: There are many Kaineng players (including me) that will have to stop playing WvW if this change stays. We’ve spent 3+ years playing this mode, learning it, loving it, fighting hard and building our guilds and our server up under tough circumstances. We’ve learned to stick with things through thick and thin, so when I post here please know it’s not idle whinging – I’m worried.
I thank you for listening, and we’ll stick around and see how this shakes out. If I have any advice to give, it would be to pair the lower tier servers or just put it back the way it was (again, not everyone WANTS to play on high pop maps – and I hope our voices matter too).
We have faith that Anet will listen to the players and help us enjoy our favorite mode with the friends we’ve made here.
Thanks for listening,
Nanesh of Kaineng
If there is one thing this test has done, it has brought all the lower tier servers to agreement. Just last match up myself and a few in my guild where cursing the guild of the gentleman/woman I am quoting and today I am standing in full agreement with him/her I am one of the last remnants of SoR’s old T1 days, there is a reason I am still on SoR and have not left for the imagined glory back in the top ranks.
I think many of us are in agreement, this is beta testing, we know our servers have died and needed some changes, but to this? Here are a couple of my thoughts for what they are worth…
-Go back to 24 servers.
-Remove the mega-server in all PvE cities except Lions Arch to allow server identity to grow, even at the expense of almost empty cities. Rest of PvE would remain on mega-server.
-In all lower tiers, (5 and down) in WvW you reinstate Alpine BL’s, smaller maps for smaller populations. This give Anet the added ability to utilize what has been made and also gives incentives to those in the top tiers who really enjoyed Alpine to move down in the ranks. Alpine maps are smaller and a much better fit to lower tiers.
-Make server transfers free for a short time frame, I know this is a gamble as it may do more harm then good, but we need the stability. After this initial transfer time, change the amount of Gems it takes to transfer, moving to T8 should almost be free, and increase in increments through Very High, close off transfers for Full servers. This is a quote straight from wiki… “Periodically, ArenaNet will offer incentives for players to transfer to lower population worlds, including waiving transfer costs.” I dont think I have ever seen a transfer fee waived or an incentive to move.
I think the added reward system was a huge plus and will bring some players in to at least try WvW
I know many of my guild which is PvX focused and run together in WvW, we will not be willing to just be a havoc group, on a T1 tier, and because of that we may not touch WvW as much as we had, or have planned if this remains the norm with large zergs everywhere.
The original game design of WvW was Capture and Hold, this is why PPT is calculated, in most of the top tier, PPT is a byproduct of nothing more then massive zerg fights. I want to see the impact that I make, and if not myself, then those following me and my guild when we go out into WvW. By forcing us to conform to the zerg does not aid in this concept.
Others have talked about merging just the smaller servers, this is an option but I recommend a system in which looks at active WvW players, maybe looks at who spends more then say 5 hours a week in WvW and make it fluid week to week or month to month to match up lower servers, if you lock it to current ranks, then you will continue to have the spread between T1 and TX divide more. Sure it adds some unknowns on resets as to what server you are going to be matched with, but its a change to prevent the degeneration of lower servers and people will adjust as its a minor issue as compared to 2+ hours queue if the remain the norm for a while.
These are all just ideas, I am not sure what the final solution will be and I am glad Anet is finally doing something to attempt to address it.
Lets see how a couple weeks of this plays out, Queues should come down, but I fear game play is forever changed by this for all of us that enjoy small scaled fights and tactics on taking objectives.
Rest of my T6-T8 friends, that are not pleased yet, lets give the beta some time, but know we are together on this.

A three-page demonstration of why being a game developer sucks.
Hello all,
(the TLDR part providing some background before I get to the point)
I began my humble GW2 career on Eredon Terrace way back a few months after launch. Not early enough to get a fancy baseball cap, but early enough to have my three birthday boosters for my main character Simba Khan.
ET has been my home on GW2 for my entire time on GW2 minus 5-6 months I spent on NSP. There I had my own little GW2 journey starting off as a clueless pug, to roamer, to pugmander, and even eventually a highly respected community server leader and guild leader of Flames of Courage [FoC].
We always had coverage issues and thus never climbed very far, but we always focused on making sure that when we DID play, we had a blast doing it. We would host Server wide events such as class specific zergs like Necros, Engineers, Rangers, Rifle warriors, etc. We would also host themed nights like Ladies night with pop songs, drinking, wearing pink, sappy poetry reading, and bad karaoke. Our most successful event was a Mystery Night where every single guild on the server got together to solve a pre-made mystery made up by members of our community.
Long story short…I’ve had quite the journey with this server and the game’s history.
(end of the TLDR part)
Now…we fast forward to today and the Population Beta.
The folks here on ET knew that we were going to be a small fish in a big pond, so we all got together and made up a plan. We all wanted to play the game together like we always had, for better or for worse. We gathered up, we made our squads, had our plans, and were all ready to go in and face whatever.
Then WvW opened and before somebody could even say the map to join…every single map was queued. Each.and.every.one. Not a single person in TS got onto a map.
Now, while I understand that nobody wants empty maps, and nobody wants unbalanced BS matchups, either. ET wasn’t a “partner” with Blackgate tonight for reset because nobody actually made it in to participate..other than maybe 1-2 lucky souls. We were shut out immediately.
ANET, your goal was to provide servers with a way to keep their identity, but in this case you erased us from existence tonight. We were given nowhere to play and just threw our hands up and went into EOTM and spent our night there.
Now, this is long-winded, I know. However, I wanted to paint a picture of an EXPERIENCE that was had, not just log in and complain. Our experience was one of uncertain excitement that quickly evolved into complete disappointment and frustration.
I fully expect these queues to die down as the week goes on, but you always wanted reset to be like a big party and everybody was invited. Well tonight…everybody was invited….except us =/
What went wrong and how I believe we could better utilize the linked server feature:
1. Balanced Population/Coverage: A balanced matchup is a rare commodity because while you CAN affect population you can’t necessarily control skill level. However, Glicko’s job is to help by finding servers that generally can compete with one another based on performance. We want to see scores that are close, which is usually caused by all competing servers having a reasonably equal population/skill level across all times zones. This is where mergers can really help when one group gets way out of control. For example, merging a high NA prime population server with a high EU time zone population to increase its coverage and make it more competitive with another server with a similar coverage spread.
2. Battle sizes that fit OUR individual tastes. Not everybody will agree on what density of population activity is ideal. Personally I believe 20-30 man fights are perfect to keep things fun and epic while avoiding many of the dangers of “cheese.” The beauty of the old setup was that you really had options. The lower your tier the smaller the scale of the fighting that you would encounter until you found your particular taste. This allowed players to find that right server/tier for them and settle in.
This particular merger selection took the two most incompatible groups and forced them together. You took people who were used to small scale/rapid access and threw them in with people who like huge scale/wait your turn.
On your next pass in this Beta, I suggest that you attempt to link like-minded groups together.
Here is a hypothetical example…
ET has awesome NA prime but we lack late night and early morning coverage. Pair us with a server who generally struggles during NA but has more activity during times where we are lacking. This way both servers actually help one another and can create better competition for other servers with similar activity. That way we don’t get swallowed by the “host” and both linked servers actually learn to appreciate each other’s contributions.
The issue with this specific merger (I can’t speak for the other mergers at this time) is that ET doesn’t really offer BG anything other than increasing their queue numbers during NA.
Although the BG people that I have met (granted they were in EOTM) were welcoming and friendly, which I give them thanks for.
I’m going to stay optimistic because I do really see great potential here to make things better than they were. I’ll add an edit to this post later based on how things change throughout the week, but I wanted to make sure that you folks at ANET were given some constructive feedback for opening night
(edited by Roadbull.3457)
From my experience in WvW, I think that the ability to modify how you see the tag would be better than new colors.
For me, the best change would be to be able to move the tag higher than the player’s names, regardless of the character’s race.
While I’m suggesting changes, please create a way to get rid of those messages that pop up in the middle of the screen. They are such a pain. Especially when you fight from range and have them blocking your attacks.
While not really on the subject of color, is there anyway you can give better priority to the tags? Currently in larger fights, nameplates actually go over the tag, and can make it hard to spot. If there is a way they could be always on top I think that would help alot.

Hmm, queues topic. I’m not sure which topic will survive the topic merge?
It was reset, I’m on Piken Square with my second account. This server isn’t linked to any other server, but I saw queues of 130 in ebg, 30-60 in all borderlands. My only comment in the guild chat was: I guess the changes has worked.
People are coming back and it will settle down during the week. It was good to see the queues again, makes that game mode finally alive again.
And just for poking the outraged people here: Go eotm, it was made for those who have to wait until they can join the regular maps.;)
I guess they do not listen when you tell them you cannot combine servers until you have more maps available to play on during prime time and less to play on during off hours.. It does not solve the problem at all to force combine servers against their will ( players do not get a choice who they are matched with) since that will just make it so players will not be able to play at all during the time they have to play. It just creates more problems instead. Prime time will always be overbooked and then have not enough in off hours unless they implement temporary timed maps that allow for more maps to available per server during prime time and less during off hours. The amount of maps available in a match should be determined by the number of people playing WvW in the match.
WvW / PVP ONLY
The queues have nothing to do with the merges (does anyone honestly believe a T8 server has enough people to cause massive queues in T1 servers?). There’s just a surge in population because of the wvw changes. Even EU servers that didn’t get linked with any other server had queues on all 4 maps on reset. Queues will go once people get bored and go back to pve.
^This. There’s a lot of mad ET people here. I get it, culture shock, but it’s worth considering that BG does not get this kind of queue ever, except on RESET nights where something absolutely huge is happening that week. Something which happens once in a blue moon.
You guys got on a server known for population issues as a T1, the server which lives by the motto “always outmanned, never outgunned”. This kind of queue is because of a surge of players who were excited to see a mixup, a change in the status quo. It’s not the norm, so please don’t base your opinions as if it was. BG commonly gets ~3 maps queued on Reset, all relatively minor besides EB. And some residual queues over the course of the weekend which are nothing major. After that, you’re looking at average one map a night during the weekends, rare occasion two. Normally with the others being completely devoid of any real force.
Now you can perhaps understand why Anet was comfortable with the merge. Because the activity you saw tonight is not the norm, it’s the exception. Please keep in mind one night is not indicative of what every night will look like. And ESPECIALLY not a night like this. Have some patience, let things settle out a couple days at the least and see what happens.
I knew this would be good. I am going to have to get some more popcorn to watch the silly impatience boil over……lol….and here it is only the first night!
You guys do remember that they were calling this a ‘beta’, yes????
Oh, never mind……I will get some more popcorn……have at it!!!!
Mmo players with a screw loose vs mmo players with two screws loose. All very important stuff.

You guys need to get over the queues , everyone is excited right now about mergers so of course you will see bigger queues , the queues will eventually go back to normal . And it’s reset so stop crying . Better knowing WvW is alive and kicking then dead .
Its not just about queues, are you so short sighted, people go to lower tiers to escape the blobbing of higher tiers, they go there for a different style of play, now they are being forced to be a part of it, they now have no where to go and cannot escape it. The blobbing, lag, queues that people from lower tiers were able to avoid will now be a daily part of their wvw experience. And for those in upper tiers our ability to get our guilds on the same map, coordination, communication has been impacted severely.
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.
>Class Balance is a Joke<
i havn’t seen a queue on ET in ages... not even on EB on reset night. the lower tiers are adding some extra people... but the huge influx is all the people who have returned for the "shiny new thing"
~o hai there :D~ LONG LIVE ET
As if this is the first time reset night after a new patch brought big queues.
Calm down it will settle, save your judgement after you see how the week long match goes.
dang
welp... time to create the [ET] guild.
~o hai there :D~ LONG LIVE ET
Oh I may have to log on tonight just to read the map chat… oh the egos of some of the server leaders and guilds who “run things” on their server getting paired up with past enemies or just other leaders….. The outright culture clashes are going to be phenomenally entertaining…. “Get off my map Scrub!, half my guild is in que”, “No you get off!” etc……
And I foresee Transfer Wars 2 on the horizon.
I know that all too well. for the first year of this game we were told to stay out of WvW until thursday. lol. Not going back to that anymore. If someone doesn’t like it they can suck on a tick tak. I’m playing bloody WvW regardless what they say. I came to this game to play WvW and it’s really the only part I enjoy.

Some of us also just plain don’t like the massive fights and prefer the lower population servers for more focussed and impactful world versus world gameplay. This is gone now.
I always said, the Tiers shouldn’t be equalized or have Worlds rotating often. Having Tiers with differing themes and play styles, gives the greatest possible player satisfaction overall.
